This review is based on a visit today to this local branch of a very fine chain, I have been to many of their restaurants both in the US and Europe.Today we decided to go for a lunch, it wasn't too busy, but had to wait for two or three minutes just to be seated. Having been given a table we were then ignored for nearly fifteen minutes, at which point we left to buy lunch somewhere else.I am sure that if we had arrived with a baby in a buggy, we would have been served double quick. This place is going to go out of business if it continues like this.I for one am never going back to this branch, Ihope it does go, to make way for a properly run restaurant. We went elsewhere and spent seventy quid and really enjoyed it.I will write to the big boss to let him know what a crap place he is supporting, it should go!

Not sure why anyone would go to this restaurant, they have prime spot for sitting outside so it is such a shame. It used to be Balan's and was FULL all the time! Now it is sunny at a weekend and hardly anyone there? Does that not tell you something? I tried this restaurant a long time ago and was not happy with it, in the winter, so was sitting inside but thought a couple of years later perhaps things had improved and can sit outside in the sun. I decided the breakfast menu was a no no, as they don't even offer toast ONLY bread??? what sort of menu is that !! I ordered a flat white coffee which cost 3.26 pds, probably the most expensive in Chiswick and for a small cup of coffee this is just ridiculous. Service not great and hardly anyone there, no surprise ! Should shut down and let the decent outside space be taken with a more friendly and more interesting food place. Shame....

Came here for the second time and once again the order was wrong. Feta on your avocado tatine? No thank you. Yet it arrived covered in feta. Explained that we clearly said no feta and after a confused expression and no apology, the plate was whisked off. We then watched the chef lean out and with bare fingers take a piece or two off the dish. Clearly to ascertain if it would be worth just scraping it off. No idea if they did or not as after seeing that we promptly cancelled the dish, finished our coffee and bread and paid our bill. As my wife is pregnant, I didn't want to have an open discussion with staff who clearly didn't care, hence me not flagging at time. An appalling approach to food hygiene. Chefs should wear gloves and under no circumstances think it's ok to pick off a product that isn't advised for pregnant ladies (or indeed off any dish, where someone may be intolerant to an ingredient). Worrying. Second visit confirmed our view of the first, not worth it.

(This is the email I sent to the company customer service address...still no answer)My friends and I, who all work in hospitality, had a a day off for one of my friends Birthday. I personally recommended your restaurant for the all day breakfast as I am a regular patron to your Highgate and Tottenham Court Road restaurants and have always been more than happy with both the service and the food. As soon as we arrived at the entrance, one of the floor staff seemed too busy to seat us and pointed at a "clean" table which was not at all wiped down. We took our seats and the same member of staff brought us our menus. The restaurant was not so busy, maybe around 8 or so covers with everyone seemingly finished or ordered. To us it didn't seem that way because we serve 600 covers a day but understand different interpretations of busy. However I feel the most important thing in stressful or busy situations is not to let the customer feel rushed or stressed as this will always only exacerbate an already undesirable situation. We were not in any rush therefore we were not too disappointed about the lack of service at the beginning. However after trying to make eye contact with the only male waiter for at least 10 minutes, he shouted at us from the table behind: "I know you have been waiting a long time, just give me a sec". We were all stunned by this response. When he finally came over, in no rush to get to us at all, he rubbed his face and hair and sighed as if we were a burden and said: "Do you guys need to order a lot of food or what? It's so busy and it's only me on the floor..."(This wasn't true there was the female member of staff that seated us and a manager running food.) He kept complaining to us about how busy it was; it made us feel extremely unwelcome. As he took the order, he kept tapping his foot as if I were taking too long and seemed to care more about anything else than getting our order down. When he left the table we were so shocked for a while we genuinely thought it was a joke or a prank he was so obtuse in the way he addressed us it was laughable. Finally our coffees came shortly followed by our food. As a regular, I know that butter is served with bread. After trying to get the attention of the waiter my friend had to get up and ask the manager on duty (who was running food) to please bring us some butter and more milk for the coffee's. The waiter brought over the butter and threw them in the middle of the table and sarcastically said: "there's four butters here, what else did you want? Milk? If you need more just ask me" to which my friend responded: "but you're not really available"; he walked away at this remark and tutting offering no apology for his lack of service. Shortly after he brought us cold milk when we asked for it steamed and said again sarcastically: "it's full to the brim so you should be okay with that" as if it was a ridiculous request to have 2 pots of milk for the 3 pots of coffee. My male friend asked him what his problem was, and he stormed off. My Male friend then turned to us laughing and said "Is he serious?" this is when it all kicked off. While serving another table, he shouted: "I finish in 10 minutes, if you've got a problem with me, I'll see you outside" as he cracked his knuckles. We began to argue with him till we called over the manager who had to dismiss him from the floor. She was as devastated as we were by his ridiculous outburst and was extremely apologetic. Another table refused to pay service because of him. One lady commented to us as she left: "I don't what his problem was, he got mad at me for asking for my cup of tea which was half an hour late". After this, he came over to continue the argument and threatened my male friend again. The manager stepped in and sent him home. While he was getting ready, he was trying to stare us out and intimidate us. The manager told us not to worry, he had 3 days left (little help to us at the time). This boy should not be allowed to finish his time at your restaurant and should most probably never work in hospitality. I can't explain how appalling this experience was especially as we went there on my recommendation. It completely ruined our day off. You can imagine our surprise when the only compensation offered by the restaurant was the removal of an optional service charge. I eagerly await your response and hope this matter is treated with the severity it deserves.

The last time ate there we each had the brunch, our order for which having been somewhat reluctantly accepted because it was just past the deadline for this dish. There isn't much else here that is interesting for lunch - it's mostly bread products, butter and jams. There may be some salads and dishes with other low cost ingredients. It is very expensive for what it serves. When our brunches came, one had a long black hair in it which was off-putting to say the least. The staff were very apologetic and did their best to make good but we had rather lost our appetite by then. We haven't been back since.

Our coffee arrived promptly. We had ordered lattes. Call me old fashioned but I'm not keen on coffee being served in little bowls. After a little wait the food arrived and it was just okay. Not much scrambled eggs, the mushrooms were okay, the lettuce leaves looked limp as if they were lifted straight from a bag. A little dressing would improve the dish. All in all just average and with so many other breakfast/coffee shops in the area I am unlikely to return.

As the names would suggest, this place specialises in bakery produce. The food is exceptionally good. That's the first thing. The Almond Croissants are superb. The coffee is excellent, as are the tartines and It's all organic too. But it's not cheap. It's about £2.80 for a "pain au chocolat" and about £3.50 for a cappucino. Scrambled organic eggs with mushroom is £6.00 - you'll get full English plus a coffee for that in a nearby cafe, admittedly though, not to this quality. There's shaded outside seating which is in a spacious forecourt. However, it's a bit more cramped inside due to the shop and food displays and when it's busy, like on most Sunday mornings and brunchtimes, it can feel claustrophobic. We used to go there a lot. Until one day when there seemed to be a noticeable change in staff accompanied by a noticeable change in attitude. We asked a waitress for a place at a table and were told to sit wherever we wanted. There were no cleaned table places, so we sat at one waiting for it to be cleaned. We sat waiting for 25 minutes trying in vain to attract any waitress' attention and were ignored. The place was busy, but not full. We got a menu from another waitress but she walked away as we started to tell her we didn't need a menu because we knew what we wanted to order. After 25 minutes of inattention, we left. The waitress couldn't have cared less and she never came back, but the supervisor asked us to stay and made excuses for her. We pointed out our experience to him and left. The table remained un-cleaned, we were never asked if we wanted some water or a coffee while we waited and so I never went back, but my partner did and had a similar experience there soon after and has not been back since.

Brunch on Sunday morning; my friend's latte was served in a 'bowl with no handle' so the waitress decided she needed to put a thumb into the froth of the latte to help place it on the table with one hand while balancing the serving tray in the other hand, instead of placing the whole serving tray onto the empty table next to ours and more carefully placing the cup.... yuck. Perhaps go back to a 'handled' cup if this is too difficult to manage? When my friends scrambled eggs plate came they didn't remove the previous empty side plate and so squeezed the breakfast plate onto the table with 1/4 of the plate hanging over her lap(!!) instead of clearing away the already finished crockery. Even the previous customers jam spreads were left for us to clean up (onto the empty table next to ours) after they had taken our order. My earl grey tea-pot still had residue from the previous users brew on the handle. They got my salmon eggs breakfast order incorrect so my friends eggs and mushrooms started to get cold as she wanted to wait for my order. When asking for water, the waitress just passed it over a barrier rather then come around and politely place it on the table. And then the service charge is included! Worst service I've had in many years.

It would seem so as the waitress never came back and eventually I had to ask another table to borrow their jams. A big deal? I would say so if 12.5% automatic service charge is being added to your bill. I would say management need to have a think about the quality of service they offer.

On the face of it, a very vibrant eating place amongst many in trendy Chiswick High St. Good ambience, nicely laid out with natural wood tables and chairs.Very varied, healthy organic menu with interesting choices, and we thought it was going to be a great experience. However, I chose a chicken club sandwich, pretty expensive at £9.70 and very disappointing. Very little filling between two very thin slices of rock hard toasted bread, only a few "scraps" of low quality chicken including mostly fat and gristle. To be fair, the scrambled egg and mushrooms and leek and potato soup and three hummus platter the other members of my family ate were good, but the service was slow and they had to be reminded to bring our dessert having been very slow to tell us that our first choice was sold out. They have a counter service for buying cakes, croissants, and Belgium jams, etc. from which I bought a jar of tasty Belgian Speculoos Spread.Overall, it has the potential to be very special with unique points but is let down by the service and "hit and miss" food quality of the food.

It is not so well patronised as its inferior neighbour.everything is better here. I like this chain, from breakfast through to dinner. I want to the one on Exhibition Street, near Brit Museum, and had a lovely light dinner with a french rose. Tables are cosy but everyone seems to be lovely, relxed with a nice ambience. It's terrific value.

My husband and myself frequently visit le pain quotidien in Chiswick as it is fresh, delicious tasting food. The service is always very good and prompt from the staff and we are always welcomed with a smile : ) My favourite treat from this cafe is the organic banana and choc chip muffin which is a must try sooooo yummy! But I think anything you order will be really nice.

Great place to meet up w friends. Loved their winter hot chocolate with a hint of orange. Meeks are delicious and simple. But with often in interesting flare. Love having them in the neighbourhood.

Very rude unhelpful staff. Will never visit this awful place ever again. The coffee was cold, asked for a replacement and was told that there was nothing wrong with it. Whatever happened to good customer service? Very upsetting.

My took my daughter and her 3 kids here last year and had lunch,. All 5 of us was vomiting and had diahrea and tummy ache for 3 days after,. This was deinitely to do with the fact we all had the pizza there... Also in a side note,, the woman who served us at the till was miserable and rude,. we saw her have an argument with another customer as we got there..We will never ever go back

No wifi! I regularly stay in this area for business. Everytime I go, I find that the wifi is not working. I basically want to work there, so it wastes my money every time. It is also in a mobile data black out spot. Sort it out Costa!

Closed down - no communication from hotel even though had confirmation email day before arrival. You’d think an email to say so isn’t too much to ask

During the 5 days of our stay, we went to this pub in London every morning for breakfast. The menu is really cheap and it's very good!
