Sunday lunch was what I booked, not a tasting menu!! Gravadlax starter. Maybe 20 grams of dry salmon. No bulk, no taste. Roast beef for mains. Maybe 60 grams of beef. Too little to taste, literally one mouthful of meat. First and last visit, a shameful presentation of a traditional Sunday lunch. I would be embarrassed to take guests to this. Many restaurants/pubs offer better. For top class Sunday lunch try the Millstream at Marden or the Mayfly at Fullerton. Top quality beef, vegetables and consistent quality. So disappointed with Greys

We have been visiting Whatley Manor for the last 16 years and despite changes over time have never been disappointed. Last night we had a superb meal in Greys Brasserie. The chef had used local seasonal ingredients and we had three delicious courses. The staff were as professional as ever. Thank you to the team who make every visit memorable. We can’t wait to go back again.

Very tasty starter(teriyaki beef) sadly went down hill when roast dinner served. Cardboard Yorkshire pudding, 2 thin slices of beef(chewy) 1 small jug of gravy for 3 people. Pudding OK. Not what you expect when paying £43.50 per head. As for the over priced wine list no wonder some tables stuck to soft drinks! Will not be recommending or returning.

It’s not too hard to do a decent roast, specially when you have a short menu and charge Whatley Manor’s prices. Uninspiring starters akin to what you might expect on an airline, bland, overcooked vegetables, unforgivably chewy inedible “crackling” on the porchetta. Roast beef that was style over substance. The same gravy (a Bisto dupe) offered with both meats! Nothing was memorable except the bill.

Well sadly not a great time was had we went for Sunday lunch seated at 12.20pm starters bread drinks arrived very quickly then all went downhill we saw at least 5 waiting staff working restaurant had 6 tables dining we were chatting and by 1.10pm noticed we had not had our roast lunch called a waiter who said it is on the pass 1.25pm it arrived a very long wait form starter to main when it arrived we not impressed 3 slices of the beef where so thin you could see through 2 pieces of carrot and the same of green vegetable and small amount of peas the best part of the lunch was roast potatoes and the gravy I think they must have changed staff and chef as for such a lovely restaurant as was before it is not great by the way the I am a small eater the portion would not have fed a child we did not stay for dessert we where off a free drink to which we did not want get it right as it spoils going out for lunch

I’m not sure if it’s because Niall has now left but we’ve been eating at Whatley for years and we’ve just had the worst meal we’ve ever had. Food was ok but that’s just it. It was just ‘OK’. We can only afford to eat here a couple of times a year. It’s very expensive but you’ve always got exactly what you’ve paid for. Normally the food is excellent. Not this time! Very sub standard meal. Hardly any gluten free options. My bread at the start of the meal was not even what I would class as bread. My husband had a lovely sourdough. Even Waitrose sells a lovely gluten free sourdough. I had some very thin flatbread type thing that was dry and inedible. Starters and main were literally just ok. My dessert was awful. A chocolate mouse that tasted as though it had been made with cocoa powder covered in dried candied peel which you just wouldn’t eat raw!! Never been so disappointed before. Probably won’t come again now which is a shame after so many years.

Second visit to Whatley Manor into the slightly more relaxed Greys. Booked lunch with Jazz. Overall experience was great with a nice table and attentive service by the large number of staff around. Chose a Lager and Prosecco whilst we viewed the menu. A 3 course set menu which we had Pate and a fish starter followed by the Hake and Roast Beef with a bottle of South African Pinotage (Wine list very extensive and expensive) Brownie and Treacle tart followed. Food great quality. Horseradish with the beef sadly very bland with no kick to it. Jazz or rather the music was good but not reallywhat I would call Jazz. Recommend fr a special treat.

After a promising start where we had pre-dinner drinks in the garden, we were shown through to the restaurant for Jazz Sunday lunch. We were given a small pokey table in the corner right by the kitchen, also right in front of the band.. literally had to shout at each other all through the meal to have any conversation. Had to send both our meals back as they were cold. What came out was only slight hotter, the roast potatoes looked and tasted as though they had been in a deep fat fryer. Really bland underwhelming food. Seemed totally unrefined. How do you get Sunday lunch so wrong..? Finished with a drink outside..£20 for a glass of house Rose a bit steep when a bottle of Whispering Angel we had with lunch was only £65. As for the Jazz, a bit of a stretch to call it that, seemed more blues brothers. Not the refined lunch we were expecting in any shape or form, left £229 worse off for couple of hours which had no finesse about it at all. The gardens however were stunning.

It is always a treat to come here, the location is sublime, the architecture is charming, the gardens are wonderful. I had booked ahead for a friends birthday. I prearranged drinks in the bar, so turn up half an hour early to enjoy a tipple in the beautiful lounge. The restaurant itself is modest but tasteful. We had a lovely table in the window. The menu was not complicated or overloaded with choices. 4 starters, 4 mains. A vegan choice, fish choice and two meat choices. I opted for the dressed crab served with the most delicious sour dough bread and whipped butter. We made a bit of a mess ( crumbs everywhere ), but don't change it. The main course was duck breast with stuffed leg plus peaches. Very filling and tasty. Staff were very professional and friendly. Can't recommend it more highly, but the bill was high. But you get what you pay for which is a wonderful experience.

Wife and I went for Sunday lunch. The atmosphere and greeting were welcoming. The temperature perfect (on a very warm day). We knew it would not be cheap, but we paid through the nose for average food. My wife had lamb roast, which was eventually pretty good. We'd asked for 'well done', but it arrived pink, so we sent it back. No problem and it came back fine - but it's always a shame when people's meals are out of sync. My wife also returned her gravy, which was too salty for her to eat. Again replaced without question. I had Atlantic Cod, which I thought would come with similar veggies to the roasts. But no, it was explained it's a 'full meal on it's own'. It was £29.50 for a cereal bowl sized dish containing a fairly small slice of cod on a bed of samphire, all floating in what I think was salty melted butter. This would have been very small for a child's meal. When I mentioned this to the server, she offered me extra sides to complete my meal - which I accepted, but paid extra. I'm not inclined to return here, as there are so many excellent alternative venues nearby.

The staff serving were charming and pleasant as was the Sommelier. We can only think that they must have been embarrassed to carry the bowls to our table. I say bowls because 3 of us had sea bream on top of some indistinguishable vegetable, that would have looked better in a plate and we would have been able to use our knives and forks which proved impossible with a bowl. The fish itself was totally over cooked and dry. The fourth person had ravioli that would have had Italians in fits of laughter and would have justified their criticism of English cooking. The starter Gravlax with beetroot was not only pathetic in size but utterly tasteless. We can only assume that all your chefs and cooks were absent on this particular night. We knew it was going to be expensive we certainly weren’t disappointed at that. I can highly recommend any of the surrounding pubs that will provide far better food.

Really enjoyed the Sunday cinema package including lunch at Greys Brassiere. I don’t often review restaurants as so many places serve really good food nowadays but our Sunday lunch at Whatley Manor was excellent. The quality and choice of food was perfect and offered very good value in my opinion - perfectly cooked veg and great presentation. Service was rather rushed but I understand they were busy and trying to make sure everyone got into the cinema on time. My only negative was I didn’t find the table very comfortable, I felt cramped and very close to other guests which made service difficult for the team and the depth of the table meant I spent the whole time leaning forward to talk to my partner, just a bit uncomfortable. Overall a good experience though and would definitely visit again.

Although throughout the whole meal the staff kept leaving the main door open and it was freezing, which is unacceptable on all levels. The meal was fine and tasty but nothing amazing. Nowhere near Michelin quality, the dessert was an afterthought and nothing else. After the meal the menu describes Coffee & treats, but we didn’t get any treats at all. For £150PP this whole experience was a waste of money. I will we willing to try the dining room experience for higher quality food and service. I found the greys brassiere way too informal. Also it was not Christmassy in the slightest, no Christmas trees, no Christmas music just a few wreaths. It just felt like another day. Would not recommend

We ate in the Green Room. It was one of the worst meals we had in the UK. We had four Waguo Beef hamburgers for our main course. We specifically asked for medium rare. What we got was a very dry extremely well done (or rather over done) small hamburger, above which was placed a fried toast with some horse radish and capers- nothing else-no vegtables, no sauce, no fries, and for this they charged 21 pounds each. The starters were OK but very small dishes. We were still hungry by the end of the meal- so we ended up stopping for a pizza (Amelphi Restaurant), which was a fraction of the price and far superior food. To be avoided.

My wife and I had a lovely meal to celebrate my birthday. We came for the 3 course Sunday lunch with Jazz. We both had the sirloin beef sunday roast as the main. Everything was fantastic from start to finish. The service was attentive, the food was divine, the ambience with the Jazz was lovely. Whatley Manor's grounds are delightful and we had a lovely few hours enjoying this incredibly relaxing place. Can't recommend it highly enough.

My wife and I had lunch as part of a garden tour. The garden tour was excellent and it was really good to hear about the garden from Andy (the head gardener) and it is a lovely garden to walk around. The lunch was good (although the waiter was a bit confused) but the overall value was a bit debatable.

We have dined at Le Mazot in the past but this was our first visit to Grey’s. The meal for our daughter’s special treat was slightly disappointing as the fish option was in a mussel broth. As she is vegetarian & allergic to shellfish her only option was the asparagus & poached egg main. I chose the fish, gurnard, & it was extremely small. My other daughter, her friend & my husband were all happy with their meals.

I took my husband for a fathers day treat (minus the kids) and the set lunch was very tasty, starter was a little sparse but after the bread, main and then desert i was actually stuffed. Everything was cooked perfectly and had a lot of flavour. The staff were all very attentive. Even after id parked the car i was greeted by a member of staff to show us in holding an umbrella over us. We used the spa afterwards which was also a wonderful treat. Brilliant place to go without the children - i will be back :-)

We met friends for coffee and then Sunday lunch .There are so many beautiful places to sit and enjoy a chat with old friends without feeling you are in the way. Then on to lunch which as usual was delicious with first class service and in my case too much to eat .The gardens are superb and after such a lovely meal a perfect way to gently get a little exercise I would thoroughly recommend that you treat yourselves to this quincential English experience.

Chose Grey's Brasserie for a birthday treat. Beautiful venue, attentive staff, and the food was delicious. BUT two of us had the mackerel salad starter, really small pieces of mackerel. One of the party had the duck salad. The duck was used to wrap the vegetable element, and it was sliced really thinly, so not very much there. The theme was continued with two of the mains, the exception was the fillet beef which was a good portion. However that was £72 for two people. The desserts were also delicious but small. The bill was large.

My wife and I went for an anniversary lunch and the atmos was very suitably special. On the down side I question the chef's palette. The chicken came with an over-seasoned sauce as well as too much black garlic puree -which was probably coloured with something like olive tapenade - so was also very salty. Desert was a beautiful morsel of treacle tart ruined by a prune ice cream that didn't sit at all well with it. With simple cream (stolen from my wifes' desert) it was divine . My wifes' meal tasted fine - what there was of it - the smallest fish portion I have ever seen -. i thought the days of coming out of fine dining feeling hungry were over ! We also still think oranges have no place next to fish.

We spent a lovely evening at Whatley Manor arriving in plenty of time to wander through the beautiful gardens with a glass of champagne before heading to the Green Room to relax at the bar and watch the chef at work. We enjoyed our starters at the bar before being shown through to Greys Brasserie for our main course. The food was beautifully presented and tasted fabulous! We had originally planned to drive home at the end of the evening but decided to get a taxi instead. We made several unsuccessful attempts to book a taxi and on explaining the situation to the manager he offered to continue trying whilst we carried on with our meal. When it became clear that there were no taxis available the manager arranged for one of his colleagues to drive us home to Brinkworth at the end of the evening. That really does add a whole new dimension to going the extra mile and we were hugely grateful and impressed by the outstanding service we received. A big thank you for making our evening such a special one!

Whatley Manor is a lovely location with hotel, restaurants and spa. The facilities are good. We had a pleasant lunch on the patio on a beautiful day. Gurnard in a pea, bean and herb broth was very tasty and a fruit trifle enjoyable. However you don’t get much for you money. Drinks are particularly expensive. Service seems a little disorganised, not all staff members new what was going on.

Greys Brasserie at Whatley Manor is a stunning place to eat. The whole experience was excellent. We arrived early midweek and had a lovely alcove table.

Having ate here before and had a good time I thought it would be good for a birthday meal for 4 on a Monday lunch time how disappointing it was. 2 Steak & Stiton pies ordered although very tasty lacked Stiton and was meant to be served with veg we had to ask for the veg which when it arrived after several minutes the excuse was we only have 2 microwaves not the excuse I wanted, the other 2 meals were fine, unfortunately we will not go back.

We visited on a Sunday for breakfast. Arriving a couple of minutes after 10am (opening time), we queued for a table and then again to order food. There were plenty of tables but appreciated it was busy - not all tables were full. We waited for 50 minutes for our food to arrive, although coffee arrived much earlier. This was prompted by us asking where our food was/checking the order had been made, to which we were told ‘we’d just have to wait because it was busy’. The food arrived 5 minutes later. The food was tasty and we’ve no complaints about the quality or price. But, something about the system here just doesn’t make sense, queuing at every point and then waiting another 50 minutes for scrambled eggs on toast and a bacon sandwich, doesn’t make sense. We arrived at 10 and didn’t leave until 12:15…. People had started arriving for lunch! Sadly, we’d not return. There are just other places nearby that are doing it better.

We booked a table for the opening party, the pub opened earlier in the week with new staff and owners.

The location of this establishment is strange because the shop/restaurant sits within what is essentially a business park in the middle of nowhere but it is not hard to find. The setting was ideal for a summer lunch with lots of variously covered areas to shelter from the sun or rain if it happens. Then you realise that all these covered areas are, in fact, the restaurant! I saw no evidence of indoor seating. The main seating area is fundamentally a plastic marquee attached to a shop unit and all the seats are picnic benches. They have an interesting menu, which changes regularly I understand, and it is obvious that this establishment is not trying be a full all ‘singing and dancing’ restaurant and they do make that clear. It uses locally sourced quality produce for Deli style light meals, specifically lunches, and also snacks. The people running it are personable, welcoming and efficient. We found them very helpful and attentive and the food was delicious. Overall, the food menu is a little overpriced I feel but not excessive. That said, a few dishes do seem “over the top’ for what they are. It is the shop where the prices are eyewatering expensive and I think they have gone too far. I can here them now saying that they are supporting local suppliers and that this comes at a cost but times are hard and I do truly believe they, or their suppliers, need to face reality as the pricing is far too high. We need to support businesses like this but they have to respond too! Did I enjoy my meal? Yes, fantastic, Would I go again? Yes, definitely! Would I encourage you to go? Yes definitely! I just warn you that your visit will be enjoyable but not cheap so be prepared.

Great evening! It did not disappoint! The black rock fillet steaks were amazing. The young waitresses were both lovely, always smiling & nothing was too much trouble for them. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and we all enjoyed the evening. We would highly recommend a visit here!
