Sunday 2nd August 2020 had a group booking for 16 and every single one of us was well disappointed. Been here a few times but this was really bad . Spent £400. Starters were ok but mains meals were a joke. We got the usual saucer sized dish with one roast potato one tiny floret of broccoli and cauli and tiny bits of carrot. Over half the plate was empty . Then to top it all off 4 of our 16 chose cheesecake and every one was frozen solid . What a joke. Also there was no social distancing there were 4 more tables with 4 people on making it 36 people in the small room on the right . I noticed the even smaller room on the left near the bar was packed solid. Staff wore masks and there was hand gel available but we didn’t feel safe . Visit here at your peril . We certainly won’t ever go again .

........ 3 courses for the price of 2!Decent selection on the set menu and the food was beautifully presented, freshly cooked , delicious and there was plenty of it!Excellent, attentive but not overpowering staff. My only criticism is that the tables are rather close together and that prevents an “excellent” rating.

Pleasant crowded room on a weekday lunch time. Heavily into the grey pound. Staff efficient, food ok, heavy use of masking sauces. Nothing to frighten the horses. Steak pie, fish and chips, chicken and so on. Wine fine. Nothing to complain about, seems to meet their clientele’s wants. Not for me.

Weather that Sunday was shocking but we had booked a table so made the effort (wish we hadn't) we had garlic mushrooms for starters which was fine, my pork Sunday dinner was alright but my partners lamb was tough & fatty, we both had crumble with custard which was just warm, we tried this place because of the good reviews the only good thing was the service.

Disappointing Christmas meal. Have been many times before but the food was not as good as it previously has been. The starters were delicious. The turkey, pork and chicken was uniformed slices from a rolled pressed joint of meat which you would expect from a chain restaurant. The puddings were mixed some others not so good. They looked store bought and the apple tart was not served warm but cold straight from the fridge. I think we will be going elsewhere next year.

We’ve been saying we were going to go here for years and finally went for my birthday this year. Was not disappointed. I had lamb shank which was perfect. My husband had steak which was lovely but a little “pub grub” type in appearance. Only dessert let it down - chocolate orange cake was a little dry. Neither of these minor issues detracted from the meal as a whole. Staff were really friendly and attentive. Will definitely go back. Given the amount and quality of the food definitely value for money

It's a hard one to review for me, because this used to be my favourite restaurant. But this is my first return visit in a while and I dont feel it had the same quality as it did before. Starters were nice, mains were pretty basic though. Quite bland really, the gravy wasnt very rich, the pie was nice but again basic, the meats where nice but the veg a little poor, broccoli and cauliflower over cooked and toast potatoes very dry. The deserts where nice, I had the apple and rhubarb crumble, how ever it was more like a cake that a crumble that I was quite disappointed in.

Le Bistro is forever busy, serves a good standard of food although it is a little on the expensive side for weekend evening dining, when you're only eating what you can have in the week, which is at a much lesser cost. Unfortunately, the decor is very old, not really kept up with the times and the more slick design of others around them and the menu is as it has always been. We have visited for various occasions, couples dining and friends dining purely due to the proximity to us but there are others now offering really great evenings out with a modern menu very close by.

We decided to try Le Bistro after being told about this place on a Recommendation. We booked a Table midweek recently for 8.p.m.and found the place on arrival to be busier than I had thought it would be.After a short while,we were shown to our Table and whilst given some Menu,s we had our Drinks order taken. After deciding to go with a Starter,we both settled on the Creamy Vegetable Soup, with a Warm Bread Roll. This certainly warmed us both up as we waited on our Mains to arrive.Whilst I chose the Homemade Steak and Potato Pie,which came with Vegetables and a Choice of Handmade Chips or Potato,s,my other half opted for the Chicken wrapped in Bacon in a Red Wine Sauce. When these arrived they both looked delicious, and whilst I was tucking in to my Dish, my other half noticed that her Chicken had not been thoroughly cooked through in the Middle. When this was brought to the Attention of who I can only assume was the Owner, this was changed immediately, and so my other half chose the Pie instead.Sincerest Apologies was gratefully accepted and the cost of my other halves Dish along with the price of our previous two Drinks were deducted from our Bill. This Gesture was totally unexpected, and before we left that Evening,I did not get chance to Thank her enough, although we did Thank the Staff before leaving and left a Good Tip in the Bar Basket. As for the Pie it was absolutely Gorgeous, and just when I thought that was it,we were treated to a Free Dessert, which when purchasing Two out of the Three Courses, you get the other one for Free.Lots of unusual Decor inside, but without any intrusion of it being a real nice Cosy place to take a Meal.Thank You once again all at Le Bistro for addressing my other halves problem with her Meal, you will most certainly be seeing us again hopefully in the near Future.Well Worth a Visit.!!

I wanted to take my parents somewhere different for lunch and had been disappointed when fully booked the last time i tried here. It was chosen because of good TripAdvisor reviews and it did not disappoint. The place was very busy midweek but we were shown to our table immediately. The food is well cooked and well presented. Portions are generous and the scampi starter would have been a mains in some restaurants. My mum had the mixed melon and pineapple and there were three different melon portions and fresh pineapple. We all had the meat and potato pie with chips and mushy peas and it was delicious! Beautiful pastry. The lemon tart for dessert was also very good.Service was pleasant and efficient. Will certainly eat here again when back in Barnsley.

Went for lunch today with my wife, daughter and son in law. The waiting staff were good, but the food was very disappointing. The soup starter was really nice to be fair, the main course of poached haddock was not available, so I had cod and chips instead. The fish was possibly the worst I have ever had, even from takeaways. The batter was well and truly cooked, being dark brown and one end of the fish seemed OK. However, when I opened it up I was faced with grey meat that was soaked in oil or water or both, which formed a sort of sludge. I stopped eating at this point. The mushy peas were stodgy and were also left. The chips ( I am not a fan of fat chips), tasted of nothing and most were also left. My daughter had chicken, which she reported later was very dry. The sticky toffee pudding was a major disappointment for both my wife and daughter, and the lemon tart I had for dessert was distinctly average, and definitely resembled a bought in product. We have enjoyed good meals at Le Bistro before, so either the chef has changed or he/she has become completely demoralized with the job. Fortunately, we know of several local eateries that do consistently better than this so we will be giving Le Bistro a miss for the foreseeable future. I'm not big on complaining but I mentioned the problems with the fish to the waiter (the amount of food left also told its own story), but nobody came to enquire further or to offer an apology or explanation, so I decided to post this review. At least two of our party later felt slightly unwell (slight stomach upset)

Unfortunately the quality of food and pricing was very poor, despite friends having recommended the place on a previous good visit. Many elements seemed as if they were cooked from frozen and with very little finesse. £29.99 per head is far too high a price for bland food that didn't seem to be made with much care or, in some cases, packed/frozen. The staff were friendly enough but a server even spilled some sauce on one of our friends. We may have been unlucky with this visit, but I would never return.

Sirloin steak was next I asked if I could have mine with a garlic sauce instead of peppercorn and it was no trouble, beautiful. We also have a very picky 6 year old who wouldn't eat anything off the menu so the waitress kindly asked what she would like and the chef would cook it for her. However, it is not expensive at all, and the restaurant was full, so it is obviously popular locally. I always go on TripAdvisor to write fabulous reviews but not this time . It was my birthday treat and what a waste , I don’t know what has happened to the food but it has gone down hill with a bang. The young lady waitress ignored us when we walked in and didn’t smile or make any expression the whole night . Everybody’s food at our table was poor and my daughter had to send hers back it was that bad . The fish was swimming in cheese and the lasagne should have been renamed cheese soup! The steak which had an extra £5.50 didn’t come with any veg . My husband ordered the pie and made a comment he would call to the take away on the way home , he also said there was no taste to it . The two male waiters could not do enough and where very sympathetic to our requests . They are the only positive thing I can say . We where squeezed in with a radiator on full on our backs which I managed to turn down . I have been many times over the years and really enjoyed it in the past , but I will never go back again .

Ate here last night for a friend's birthday. Tables and seating were far too close together and cramped with little consideration given to the placement of wheelchair users - because of this, my husband, who was sat directly behind one of the wheelchair users, was constantly being knocked into by staff who were trying to squeeze through a 6" gap to serve the table. My friend had provided table plans and place names but the restaurant had messed up the placings and not supplied enough chairs but instead of focusing on sorting it out, spent the time arguing with my friend and telling her her plans must have been wrong (she had a copy on her phone and they were correct) and that "they had only done what they were told" by an older lady who I assume was the owner. I had fish cake starter which purported to be Thai fish cakes - tasteless fish cake but swimming in a spicy sauce which was poured on top of fish cake and completely filled the plate and made it soggy. My main course was a moussaka which looked to have been microwaved to within an inch of its life and contained courgette slices and, I think, butternut squash slices instead of the traditional aubergine and was watery and, because of the lack of aubergine, there was nothing to hold it together and it arrived a big pile of slop - two slices of garlic bread were served in it (yes, in it rather than on a side plate). My husband had prawn cocktail starter but it arrived with an inch of water in the bottom - clearly made with frozen prawns. His steak pie was okay but nothing special. I never begrudge paying for good food and service but this was very mediocre - the local pubs serve much better quality and there was a distinct impression that they were simply trying to cram as many people in to the room as possible - three big, long tables in a room that would comfortably have taken two and would have allowed adequate space for the wheelchairs and serving room for staff. Incidentally, I am writing this review at 5.15am having woken up at 4am feeling very very sick as a result of the food. Will definitely not be returning.

After booking this restaurant at Christmas time to have something to look forward to I was sorely disappointed by the lack of organisation and planning which went into a booking for over 30 guests. Cramped, dirty, unfriendly, slow service and shambolic attitudes towards wheelchair users. Cramming people into small spaces may bring great revenue on the night but will lose customers rapidly. Birthday celebrations ruined after careful planning. No apology. No professionalism. No idea of how they ruined the evening. Oblivious to it all. After being a Le bistro advocate I vow never to return, along with my 33 guests. Oh and 1 episode of food poisoning too.

Prawn cocktail starter was average but the pork roast was good with the crackling excellent being crispy without breaking your teeth !! Cheesecake for dessert again was ok . The atmosphere was lively and everyone was enjoying the food.We all had the two-course lunch at £12.75 (three courses for £19.75 would have been very nice but we just did not have enough room). The starters of Calamari, Mushrooms in Cream and Garlic Sauce and the Platter of Fruits with Berry Compote were well portioned and delicious. The Venison and Steak pie was delicious too, packed with meat and not too much pastry, one served with carrots, cauliflower, broccoli and new potatoes, the other with mushy peas and chips, the other dish of Whitby Cod, which filled the plate and came with chips and mushy peas, was wonderful. The beers were ice cold and the white wine chilled to perfection. The menu has a good choice for everyone. The staff here are friendly and efficient, food piping hot served on hot plates and dishes. Could not fault anything and will definitely be going again. There is a large free car park with easy access next to the Bistro and the village of Wentworth is delightful.

Have driven past Le Bistro many times over the years but visited for the first time today and it was a true pleasure to do so! Excellent value for money, a wide menu which catered for all tastes and excellent service throughout - from a telephone reservation to payment of the bill. The food was delicious, well presented and we enjoyed a leisurely lunch in comfortable surroundings. We'll definitely be returning! Thank you & see you soon!

The soup was mushroom and broccoli. I suspect it to be tinned mush soup with blitzed broccoli which probably came from the left-overs of the tired vegetable pots served with the main course. These pots seemed to have been under the hot lamp for some time; the carrots were granny-cooked and fell to pieces off the fork, the broccoli drying at the edges (nice spuds though). Judging by the attached bits of bone, the billed tenderloin in a tomato and chorizo sauce wasn't proper tenderloin and its tomato sauce had that from-a-jar flavour. Bits of spring onion thrown in didn't disguise that. The chorizo turned out to be one wafer slice from a (supermarket?) packet. Passed on dessert and finished with a coffee. Surely they couldn't get that wrong? The ordered espresso was poured from a filter jug. The mystery is that the place was full. Most seemed to be ordering the Barnsley chop and that looked like the restaurant's best hand. Wish I'd had that! Two people, two courses, a drink each and coffee came to £45. My advice for what it's worth... Drop the Bistro stuff and cook what you know.

We had the set weekend meal. Good choice of dishes, good sized portions, lasagne a bit gloopy. Felt too rushed in-between courses x4. Didnt feel relaxed as the plates and the cutlery are whisked away in a flash and another course put down before you have time to rest or chat. Slow down a bit

We have been to Le Bistro on several occasions and always had quality food. The restaurant is spotlessly clean and the service is excellent. There is a good choice of menu plus a specials board. All food is freshly cooked to order and the service is not rushed. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I strongly advise booking a table in advance to avoid disappointment. The restaurant is in the middle of a quaint village and well worth a visit.

Been here quite a number of times now with sister and brother in law, never fails. The place, food and atmosphere is always good. The staff and owner are superb.Came for lunch this week and although we have book it is always busy, nevertheless the food was outstanding. I had calamari for starter followed by the special of the day which was baked cod in a prawn sauce - delicious. In fact all four of us had the special. Nice house wine cannot fault it.

I booked the restaurant at quite short notice (Tuesday ) due to relatives "dropping in " on the way home to Deal in Kent following a visit to relatives in Northumberland .I have eaten here several times before with work colleagues but haven't eaten here for approx 4 years .Having read some of the reviews I was slightly apprehensive ,however I needn't have worried .The restaurant was full to capacity for a Wednesday evening our table was booked for 7.30pm ,we arrived early at715pm were greeted very warmly by the lady owner and shown straight to our table .All waiting staff were very friendly ,attentive and proffessional throughout our stay .The food was of excellent quality and value for money 3 .courses for £19.95 A good choice of approx 8 /starters and 8 main courses(My husband had the massive Barnsley chop cooked to perfection for a £5.50 supplement)All our food was cooked to perfection well presented and piping hot the portion sizes were quite large with a side of vegetables !! Good selection of hot/cold desserts or cheese and biscuits .Excellent warm atmosphere we shall definately be visiting again in the near future .Please ignore the negatives and visit this lovely restaurant you won't be dissapointed .

Over the years I've heard many people talk of Le Bistro at Wentworth so decided to try for my birthday. There were 4 of us in the party. The location in Wentworth is fantastic ,on arrival the staff were attentive and helpful. The service was good throughout the evening. We all had different starters which we all enjoyed. The main courses were a disappointment ,one of the party had chicken wrapped in ham and pastry which was slightly dry, the main observation was that the sauce it came with appeared to be exactly the same as had accompanied the garlic mushrooms they had had for their starter. 2 of the party had the spinach and pasta , this again seemed to have the same sauce as the garlic mushrooms. I had pork medallions with chorizo and a spicy sauce, the sauce was very bland and the dish appeared to have been stood under the warmer in the kitchen for a little while. The drinks were reasonably priced and the bill was not expensive. I still felt cheated because of the main courses, sadly we won't be back.

Had a date night with my wife here. Just by chance looking in the area for something different. Warm welcome received when we arrived, shown to our table. Menu had a good selection, so good it took a few mins to decide what I wanted. Both starter were yummy, followed by the main course, which was very filling. Food beautifully presented and amazing flavours. Highly recommend this place. Am going back so I can work my way through the menu.

We are lucky to live close by to the picturesque village of Wentworth and often visit Le Bistro with family & friends for lunch or dinner. Meals are always served piping hot, portions are generous without compromising on quality and are delicious. The lunch & dinner menus have a good selection of staters, mains & desserts so there should be something for everyone. The midweek lunch menu (served tues-fri 12 till 2) is excellent value for money, especially if you opt to have 2 or 3 courses. We quite often choose to dine in the evening midweek where you can have three courses for under £20 per person (some main menu options have a supplement). As you would expect the price is higher on a Friday & Saturday evening although an additional course is served (soup or sorbet) so is still good value. The bistro is closed on Mondays. My husband really enjoys the homemade fish cake served with a cream, white wine & chilli sauce starter, so much so that he has this now every time we visit. There are always chicken, meat, fish & vegetarian options on the menu. I particularly enjoy the roast chicken breast filled with a leek & chestnut stuffing, wrapped in bacon with a red wine sauce. Being a good Yorkshire lass I'm also quite partial to the homemade pies such as steak & venison. The bistro itself is situated on the main village road in a pretty stone building with a lawn to the front offering outside dining. As this is a bistro, tables inside are fairly close together giving an informal and cosy atmosphere. The village car park is situated adjacent to the bistro which is free of charge.

I took my husband here for his birthday. We went for the lunch time menu. There was a good choice of starters and main course. My husband had the scampi for starter there was seven pieces with salad (like a main meal), I had the garlic mushroom pasta bake it was delicious. My husband had the chefs special, lamb casserole in yorkshire pudding with leeks, carrots, broccoli and potatoes, I had chicken breast stuffed with leeks and chestnut stuffing in a red wine sauce with the vegetables. Mine was delicious but my husband said the lamb was a bit fatty. We were both too full for a sweet. Good value at £12.75 for 2 courses for a cordon bleu meal. The staff very friendly and attentive. The restaurant gets busy so recommend booking.

Hadn’t eaten here for several years following a very disappointing meal. However, decided to give it another try – and glad we did. We ate mid week at lunchtime and had 2 courses, couldn’t manage dessert. Restaurant was fairly quiet, service friendly and efficient and food very good. We thought that portion sizes had diminished since our last visit, although we had enough and left feeling not stuffed, but pleasantly satisfied. I’m sure we’ll visit again. Enjoyed.

We have been wanting to try this place for a while and booked a table last minute. It was a set menu. 4 courses for £25.The starters were lovely, I had the cheese tart, my partner had spinach lasagne. The second starter, mushroom and broccoli soup was lovely too but could have done with being warmed up a bit more. For main my partner had chicken breast with a cheese and tomato sauce and he said it was nice, nothing outstanding though. For me, it all went downhill. I ordered the steak (an extra £5.50.)I asked for it medium rare, and it came overcooked, tough and grizzly. I left most of my main. I was gutted but did not complain.I don't like to be hassled whilst eating but not once did any one come over to ask if we were OK, or enjoying our meal. Even when the waiter took my plate, he never asked if there was a problem. For dessert my partner said the treacle pudding was nice, but my cheesecake was terrible, the base was so soggy I could not eat it. I think cheesecake base should be nice and crunchy. I was a bit browned off because I had already left most of my main. I managed to get a waiters attention and told him the base was too soggy and could I have ice cream instead. This came and I left that as well as it had no taste what so ever.I asked my partner to try it, in case it was just me, but he agreed, it was all tasteless. We enjoy nice food, flavours etc and was probably expecting too much. I don't like to complain or waste food but it was just not enjoyable.£75 with a bottle of wine and tip, was a waste of money in my opinion. We left very dissapointed.Sadly we will not be returning or recommending this pace.
