Toby Carvery in Rotherham

Ordered a carvery meal for myself plus one for each of my grandsons too. We all enjoyed the food, it was fresh and just right for eating.

Where do I start, what ver an hour late to arrive, meat missing off one dinner stuffing missing off one dinner, added in the notes the veg we wanted and received a load of carrots and peas, absolutely shocking. There was only enough meat to feed one person, you basically pay £33 for two dinners consisting of 2 slices of meat and the rest is just made up of potato and veg you didn’t ask for- don’t order delivery from here

Food was good as always but Ordered J20 & bottle of 7 up and neither drinks turned up.

It came absolutely FREEZING wasn't happy. Considering we paid £27 odd for 2 large meals there wasn't much that come in eacheal but ALOT of pigs in blankets WOULDNT RECOMMEND DELIVERY AGAIN EVER

Initially I wasn't going to leave a review but I feel it important for staff to have critical feedback. Firstly let me start by saying the review is not a reflection of the food. We have been here many times and never had a bad meal. Today at around 2pm me, my fiancé and our almost 8 month old came in for a meal, we have recently started baby led weaning so we are feeding our daughter the same things we eat. Naturally she is still learning so she is not the cleanest eater. She was eating some turkey and dropped a small amount on the floor (please be aware that most of this was picked up by my partner, we both have previously had hospitality backgrounds so we know how frustrating it can be to deal with a messy area). Once we had finished our meals, my fiancé heard the manager (didn't get her name but she was wearing a green jumpsuit) say "I hate dealing with customers with kids, they don't ever clean up their mess" and I think the lady that she said this to saw that we had heard it because she laughed awkwardly and started a different conversation. This really upset my partner as she had made an effort to clean up only leaving a tiny bit of mess on the floor. I seriously wish I'd taken a picture to demonstrate the miniscule amount left on the floor. I said to her that I was going to raise a complaint there and then but my she was really upset by the comment and didn't want me to do that so we left, and sadly we will likely never visit this branch (our closest) again as both of us have genuinely been put off by this one completely unnecessary comment. I would have rather she brought us a hoover or a dustpan and brush and asked us if we didn't mind to sweep it up. To clarify, leaving any mess behind at all is not acceptable as the waiting staff are already incredibly busy and we have nothing but respect for the job they do as we know just how hard it is.

Bacon barely cooked and Too much pepper in mushrooms, be nice to see black pudding on the breakfast menu!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Truly Unforgettable Experience Walking into Toby Carvery, we expected a warm, homely roast dinner. What we got instead was a fever dream with Yorkshire puddings. Our evening was graced by Madame Zelda, a waitress who doubled as a psychic and part-time phone enthusiast. She took a “come and go as she pleases” approach to service, frequently disappearing to check her messages in the kitchen (possibly performing tarot readings for the roast beef). At one point, she shouted our order across the restaurant, because nothing says fine dining like a public broadcast of your meal choices. When the bill finally arrived (after what felt like an entire astrological cycle), we suspected it was incorrect but were too scared to ask. Over at the carving station, we encountered Mortdecai the Meat Miser, a man who looked as though he had seen things no human should. He did not speak. He did not smile. He merely mechanically sawed at the gammon, his hollow eyes betraying a deep and infinite sadness. And the food? Well. The meat was fine. The peas had been exorcised of all moisture and crumbled into dust. The roast potatoes were an abomination, somehow both overcooked and undercooked, wrapped in an alien-like skin. The macaroni cheese was simply macaroni with a vague memory of cheese. The roast parsnips? Lethal. If dropped from a height, they could kill a man. Adding to the ambience was a clientele best described as “varied”, and a mystery woman in loungewear, who may or may not have worked there. She had no uniform, no identification, and an air of casual authority. Was she a rogue diner who took matters into her own hands? We may never know. And yet—despite the questionable food, unsettling service, and general air of despair—we are giving this visit a solid five stars. Not for the food (obviously), not for the service (good lord, no), and not for the atmosphere (which was actively distressing). But for the memories, the unintentional comedy, and the sheer absurdity of it all. Would we return? Absolutely not. Would we talk about this night for years to come? Without a doubt.

as usual the food was great with it being sunday there is a vast price increase for the carvery why

I'm a regular here, mainly breakfast, never disappointed, wide choice of food, relaxing atmosphere. Thanks Sam & Marie. Staff are really friendly.

Cold, late, poor quality and items missing

Michelle and Marie went way beyond our expectations and satisfied with the 5* service! They deserve to be the best customer service advisors! 💪🏽 No beef left for our carvery at 14:30. Came in and there were no Beef ready, all meats available but not beef. Said will be in 20min, Waited 20min and still not done and not ready at all. It was ready in 40min. Was very sad about that, but lovely staff members Michelle and Marie M&M how they call it, undersood our experience and treated with drinks. They went beyond our expectations. This was much better experience!

Arrived early and we were seated straightaway. Waitress was very polite and helpful

Never ordering from them again. £13.99 (plus delivery (expected)) for a table spoon of peas & carrots, small ‘wedge’ of cauliflower, 1 roast potato, 2 massive dollops of mash, more than enough stuffing to feed the whole family (which is clearly stated on the order as NO stuffing), scraps of beef and gammon (not enough to cover a child portion), a cold crispy Yorkshire pudding in a bag, warmest thing was a pot of gravy.

Went to Toby carvery Rotherham today 23/02/25,food was lovely,we go regularly and always happy,all staff pleasant look like they enjoy their work,our waitress was Grace,lovely young lady,very polite,not seen her before,maybe new,nothing too much for her, will visit again soon.

We came this morning for our breakfast and the staff Marie was very welcoming took us to our table which was very clean. Marie came over and asked us if everything was okay and is there anything else she could help us with. Kevina came over to our table and cleared our plates away and asked us if everything was okay. Both members of staff was lovely and polite to us W both enjoyed our breakfast.

I was greeted by marie who welcomed us in she took us to our table and told us all how it worked kevina ask how our meal was and made sure we was happy Marie came back and helped clear the table asking again if everything was ok I felt the staff worked hard and cared about the guest I would recommend this toby as all staff members are very welcoming and courteous

Well, as the saying goes, if you want a carvery go to Toby. It’s the staple, you always know what you’re going to get right? Like a comfy blanket or a nice cuppa! Well that was my thoughts and came to Rotherham’s Toby, we come fairly regularly and never had an issue …….. well tonight we had a few issues, we got a table and gave our drinks orders then off we popped to the promised land of the carvery counter, sat back down with our meals and tucked in……..no drinks……. Waitress asked ‘you ordered any drinks love?’ Yeah we’re still waiting, off she popped to chase it up…….then asked someone else to chase it up. Ok fair enough, repeated our drinks order and thought ohh yeah nice cold drinks on the way, nope! Yet another server came and asked what our order was, at this point half the food was gone and I was getting ready to just eat ice chips out of the machine like an animal! Finally got them without even a sorry for the delay! Meal ate - Toby carvery as always smashes the food! Dessert time……why not, ordered dessert…..and waited…..and waited…..20 mins later it arrived and even that was wrong, small issue but ice cream is not squirty cream……..

My husband and I've been for a carvery here for the last 3 weeks as it's been 50% off it.The food is lovely, plenty choices of meat and veg,the chef is a pleasant polite guy and our server was Michelle who is a lovely friendly lady who you should be proud to employ We shall certainly be back

Food was excellent from the chef matt, and the manger on shift was absolutely lovely and nothing was a trouble for her, also a special mention to Marie for being our server 😀 would highly reccomend breakfast .

Walked into the Rotherham branch on Fitzwilliam road, as an uber driver. Was met with a very rude woman upon entrance who said “what’s your number?” I told her that it was rude and she started raising her voice I told her to chill out I was going to the collection point as I’ve done numerous times before and she just huffed and walked off. The bar woman then decided to step in and told me if I’ve got a problem to go outside. That is the rudest staff ive ever met in any toby carvery branch that I’ve picked deliveries up from.

Lovely food as always. Our server Marie was so polite and professional. Chef Matt was brilliant we asked if we could have scrambled eggs instead of fried he didn’t hesitate and made us some up separately and fetched to table. Brilliant service thank you!

Great carvery. Carrots a bit too hard for me but that's personal taste. Hoping dumplings go back on the carvery! Michelle was lovely - helping me carry the plate as I was struggling. And with drink refills. She is very hard working!

we had gone on Saturday as a family meal. We usually love this Toby carvery it’s close and convenient and the service and food has always been fantastic. However, this time around half of our family had been and got their food and me and a few remaining family members were waiting upon the gravy. We were stood there waiting for around 20 minutes could’ve possibly been longer as a family member had been there waiting before us. A staff member comes out and explains they’re just thickening the gravy. When the gravy actually comes out it was the consistency of water. Never seen gravy like it. Was cold aswell. The chef comes out and explains the gas had went while they were cooking it. So we were being told 2 different things. I proceed to sit down and try enjoy my meal. I had gammon and it was 99% fat 1% meat. I could not have eaten that. Other people were complaining too. The plate was slop. I’ve never been so disappointed. It was clear to say it was shocking as when we were on our way out multiple customers talking to one another about how shocking the standard of the food was.

Staff are so lovely and the food is amazing. The potato and carrot bake is my absolute favourite to get with my roast dinner. Not once have I ever had an issue here and I've been eating here for years with my grandparents. Tables are always clean and the overall atmosphere is very welcoming. They often have sales on such as 50% off main meals on the app which I think is a great idea. The breakfasts are amazing too, my grandad loves them. Not only are the main meals amazing, but so are the desserts. Every single time I get the brownie, I'm never disappointed. The ice cream is lovely and adds a really nice contrast to the warm brownie. Staff members are very welcoming and ensure that any problems are dealt with. One staff member who recognises us every time we come in is so lovely, she greets us warmly and often has a very brief conversation with us sometimes. Disabled parking spots made it easy for my grandma to access the building as she cannot walk far and staff were very accommodating to a wheelchair user I saw one time. 100/10 cannot recommend enough

Food wasn't as nice as Dodworth Toby carvery in Barnsley or the atmosphere, servers at the table were friendly but the people near the food area were stressed and unfriendly.

Was made to feel welcome by a warm and bubbly staff member called michelle . Nothing was too much trouble for her . Food was also great quality for the price .

Yorkshire puddings that disintegrated to dust. Dried out mac and cheese. No potato bake. 3 empty veg containers and by the time they were filled up after a 10 minute wait the rest of my dinner had gone cold. Condiments empty. Their excuse was its 50% off day. So my advice would be go when you're paying full price unless you want substandard food. The only saving grace at this place is the waitress Michelle.

Great staff ,food and atmosphere

The meat was fatty. The vegetables were dry and cold.wasn’t very appetising.The lady chef was very abrupt .She was very off putting.Ran out of a lot of desserts.Only worth the price with 50% off.

Made the mistake of popping in around 1pm, looked noisy and busy. Not a place you can just go and sit where you want, we were placed wedged between two tables, sitting down we felt uncomfortable as people were sitting right next to us and didn’t feel very private. What’s annoying was there was a round empty table for two near the front entrance, with adequate space around it. Staff member lead us to the most awkward table she could find. We walked out before we even ordered. This was our first visit to a Toby Carvery. Never again!

Expensive when eating here on Sunday

This place has really improved over the years. The place seems cleaner and tidier. Food seems to be presented better and fresh. More attention to detail.

Big portions of tasty breakfast. Hash browns weren't great and it wasn't all that hot when it arrived, hence the 3 starts

Fridays carvery was the best tasting in a longtime. It's been so bland for a while, especially the roast potatoes which are usually hard, Friday they were really tasty and moist.

The drinks machine had several unavailable which spoiled the refillables that are not cheap

We had a buffet breakfast, the food was Luke warm, taste was good but disappointing since not hot.

Food very good but place seems to be a mish mash of rooms and could do with a lick of paint , concellation drink prices very fair. Sorry this was the wrong establishment that I posted on, been to Toby before and no problems, food and staff excellent , previous post was of another place sorry if this has caused a problem.

Breakfast with Santa. Pro : Nice atmosphere. Santa and set up was lovely. The gift bag which was given was good. Food was nice I liked that it was all you could eat. Little to none queues for food and for Santa. Con: We ordered veg sausage and had to chase them then we only received 2 sausages for two people. It would have been nice for Santa to walk around while having breakfast too as that was the experience we expected. Staff were not very attentive and some of them were unapproachable. We completed a letter to Santa and added our email but didn’t get a reply as verbally advised.

Had Christmas dinner here today. We had ordered the vegetarian option but for some reason the server was confused by this & disappeared into the kitchen. It was eventually brought to our table but was really soggy - it had clearly been microwaved. The sprouts were served with bacon, no separate dish for vegetarians. My daughter queried the drinks bill to find she had been overcharged by £10 & we only had 3 drinks in total. Card & crackers on the table were a nice touch but food not worth £60.

My carvery came with no gravy or Yorkshire puddings and 2 roast potatoes

Order was never delivered. I ordered at 5:30pm and the time kept changing ended up saying between 20:30-20:50 so I went a picked the ordered up myself

came for breakfast this morning must say i was dissapointed good selection of food however when we came to eat it found every thing was cold i know that its laid out buffet style but steps need to be taken to keep food hot

Went for a Breakfast and I have to say it was horrible,It must have been cooked the day before.Everything was hard,even the eggs and the price £22 for 2 people with a Pepsi.Not worth it.

We came for Breakfast with Santa on Saturday and it was lovely, meet and greet from santa was excellent the children loved it.. very quick, attentive and polite service from Michelle, was always happy to help! Thank you.

Went for Sunday lunch with the family, was a lovely meal. Plenty of food, staff were great and very helpful, atmosphere was warm and welcoming and lively. Was a lovely treat to go for Sunday lunch! UPDATE: 7th Dec 2024 We went for the Breakfast with Santa event for my niece. It was so lovely, my niece was extremely happy and excited to see Santa. The food was lovely, and the service was amazing. Our server, Michelle, was so lovely, and happy to help with anything. Great job with what you did with this Breakfast with Santa Event Michelle, Supper!
