This was a fantastic pub to visit, with a laidback tavern vibe! The wooden design, vintage frames and name echoing the New York stadium contribute to this, staff were really approachable too. A good selection of ciders is available and I had a tasty Strawberry Cider, sitting comfortably and the counter is neatly presented!

Great real pub with friendly regulars, bar staff and good beer from Chantry Brewery. Old school boozer with good well kept real ales and plenty of keg if you like that thing including their own Lagers. Shout out to Aiden the barperson who was extremely helpful in guiding us around the towns other venues as it was new to us.

You can see why this has been Rotherham’s Pub of the Year for 7 years running - a classic pub with a great range of Chantery ales, real coal fires, top tunes piped out which does not stifle good conversation.

Cheap and local beers served before match games. Pint of Chantry Pilsner about £3.50. Varying levels of business, but can sometimes be 2/3 deep at the bar on match days.

A very nice pub serving an excellent range of beers. We travelled recently from Ipswich for football, only to arrive in Rotherham and find the game postponed. However because we had a wasted journey and we're soaking wet with rain and cold, the landlord very kindly bought us a round. Much to our surprise, the barman bought us the next round. The locals were all very friendly people and were kind and understanding of our fruitless journey. Disappointed at the postponement, but the good folk of Rotherham are alright. We will call again when the game is rearranged. Come on you blues....and you Millers.

I used to look forward to a pint of Mighty Millers, but now it is weak and lacks body. What was once 5.5% tastes more like 3%. The only beers worth drinking are the Diamond Black and the Iron and Steel. Used to be a brilliant little pub, but think I shall do the cutlers in future.

Superb, friendly, welcoming pub that has some top notch real ale from the excellent Chantry Brewery. We don't go into town on a regular basis but since we moved to Rotherham a few years ago, this is a pub we return to whenever we do. There are other options of course, and it naturally depends on what you're looking for in a pub, but for a guaranteed welcome and a wonderful beer or two, with like minded people, it's hard to top The New York. It's not just for us real ale fans though and whatever your tipple I think you'll find the atmosphere most satisfying. If you're going to support any pub, as we all try and recover from arguably the strangest times of all our lives, I highly recommend you consider making it the New York Tavern.

Home of the Chantry Brewery, the New York Tavern is quite simply the best alehouse in Rotherham. The beer is kept in excellent condition and cannot be matched for price. The interior is basic but comfortable and decorated with many pictures of local scenes. The pub is very close to the football ground and although the atmosphere is excellent on match days this is not the time to visit for a quiet drink. Food is not served this is your place to drop in for a pint.

I went in here whilst doing an overnight stop. The pub was populated with a healthy gathering of locals, even though it was a Tuesday night. A traditional oil school pub, basic and functional. The most important thing about this pub is the ale.The bar has a very respectable collection of local ales on tap. Definitely, one to try if you want to sample the local ale. All at good prices

On my rare visits to Rotherham, which in the main closed down years ago, I am pleased to report this pub upholds the traditions of a proper pub. No pretences here, just good beer. There is a fine selection of draught beers and they promote local brews to boot. All beers seem reasonably priced. Well worth a visit, but do not expect salubrious or luxurious surroundings

If so, you now know where to come...Chantry breweries keg offerings always there plus lots of guest beers and some bottled "off the beaten path treats". For example a geuze lambic (you don't see/taste those often) plus fruited lambics (more common), American craft beers, and Schienkeria Rauchbier (smoked beer) when I was there.Food? Not so much but good pork pie & pickled eggs - what more do you need? This is a drinking pub and a beer drinkers exploratorium...

Excellent choice of beers from the local Chantry Brewery and some guest ones too. Most £2.10 a pint. Friendly locals welcomed away (Brighton) footie fans. I usually get annoyed when I am given a short measure but foamy heads are the norm in these parts and it seems churlish to complain when the beer is this cheap compared to down south! Chantry Old ale and Stout my favourites!

If you like real ale then this is a pub to visit. The beer is so good that I now compare all other beers with the ones served in this pub. The local Chantry Brewery supplies at least five excellent beers, Mighty Millers and Diamond black are my favourite beers. Don't expect too much in the way of food pickled eggs nuts crisps and pork scratching on menu all day and on match days you can get a Pukka Pie.The price of all regular reals ales is £2.10 a pint (a bargain). Great view of the New York Stadium.

The New York Tavern is just outside the town centre, but worth the short walk if you like choice and value when looking for real ale. Their bar is always well stocked with beers from Rotherham's own Chantry brewery, as well as a few other offerings from further afield alongside several real ciders delivered on draught. The pub itself is unpretentious and perhaps not the best inside, it fact it can look a little cold on occasions, but all real ales are always on at £2 per pint and as the quality is always high, it has to be worth a visit. Couple this with a walk across to the Cutlers Arms across the road for two great pubs offering real ale, you can't go wrong.

We visited this pub on our way to the football match. Rotherham United located in the vicinity. The place has five beers from the local Chantry Brewery plus other guest beers including San Miguel. We had a drink of Iron & Steel Bitter. It was exactly as it say “an easy drinking true Yorkshire session bitter”. If I was living locally I would have drank the first pint down straight. The Tavern is wedged shaped but once inside there is enough room with comfortable bench seating with chairs and tables. It is a short walk from the town centre or station. I was so impressed with the place and the drink that I had to write the first review. If you're an away fan then this place is a must for drinking.£2 a pint for ales it is a no brain-er.

Lovely ambience and friendly staff. Small fish and chips was absolutely massive but very tasty. My wife's beef and ale pie with seasonal veg and chunky chips also huge but very tasty! Shame we couldn't eat it all. An excellent place for midweek lunch, and obviously to the taste of lots of other diners.

Great traditional pub, with some specialised ales too, not that I like them, prefer lager myself! Gets busy most nights, but so at the weekend. Tends to show sporting events if they're on, football, rugby, darts, etc with TVs scattered around the bar for viewing from almost anywhere. Having fairly recently been refurbished, the decor is light and airy and not so dingy that other traditional pubs tend to be. The landlord does a lot for the local community and regular events are hosted here, especially in the warmer months. Lots of the events are kid friendly too.
