Very disappointed with lunch. Beef casserole was a small bowl with gravy and 4 pieces of beef. Chicken pie with bacon and cheese could of done without cheese as this ended up like a cheese source. Chips were a bit hard. For the prices charged food not good enough. Will not be going here for lunch again.

Went for afternoon tea, pre-booked and paid a deposit for 2pm, no food came out until 3pm. Came for Mother’s Day and were left very disappointed. Little sandwich variety which had been rushed and poorly put together. Not offered any discount after waiting for an hour, wouldn’t bother to book in or revisit anytime soon.

Disgusting don't bother. Overpriced. Vegetable souple was so thick it was more like humus and Luke warm croutons soggy totally inedible and did not taste anything resembling vegetable!! Cheesy garlic bread was dripping with fat soggy and again inedible. Macaroni was watery and children's chicken strips overcooked and brown!!! Will definitely not recommend or go back! Avoid

Four of us came for lunch on the 4th Thursday in November August. I ordered the cajun chicken wrap and my wife had tuna & cheese jacket potato. Service very friendly & warm. The food looked really good and all the dishes very flavoursome. We ordered several flat whites, and these were the only disappointment as you could hardly taste the coffee as each cup had weak coffee taste, which is not what a flat white should be!. Would have rated excellent because of food and excellent customer service and ambience, however because of flat whites overall very good.

I was looking for a quick bite to eat before buying my plants in the garden centre. Hardly any dishes on tge menu were beliw £10, so I opted for the least expensive option: Soup @ £6.95. The 'real' soup was no longer available so rgey advertised a very odd sounding Pepper, Rocket & Goat's cheese soup... I was uninspired, but hoped that "Pepper" meant red / sweet pepper ... The result was very disappointing: A watery soup, bulked with four croutons of white bread ( unexpected, sonce there was a granary roll on the side and croutons were not part of the soup description), no trace of rocket whatsoever, merely a slight smattering of parsley. The " pepper" was all but an undistinguishable trace millimiter wide bits of orangey red, and there wasn't any visible evidence of goats cheese either, though a slight taste was present. There was salt. To charge £6.95 for such a sham of a soup is sheer mockery. Theret should have just said there was no soup left and be done with it. I later discovered an array of delicious looking sandwiches and other such things in a different part of the store, for around £3 each, and wished I'd have seen that sooner!!!

After reading other reviews I can only imagine I was in a different cafe! It isn't very nice, quite frankly, it is borderline tacky, the trays were grubby and we moved table twice to find one that was relatively clean. But for the fact we were stuck for time we wouldn't have stayed. Cake wasn't good, in fact nothing on display looked inviting. Coffee was poor. Whilst looking very sweet, a resident robin flying round the indoor Cafe is not very hygienic. Would never return.

We visited early this morning, soon after opening. Bacon, sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms, beans and potato rostis were all cooked and laid out on the counter. There were only a few other people in the cafe. We ordered two Laylock’s breakfasts and an eggs Benedict. We waited 35 minutes for our breakfasts to be prepared. There was one couple before us. All the pre-prepared food was fine, but the toast was burnt (actually black) and our eggs, fried and poached, were overdone - completely hard yolks! Don’t know why it took so long to prepare or why things should be burnt or overcooked at such a quiet time of the day. Maybe something else was going on that we didn’t know about as at least two groups of people decided not to order as the wait was going to be so long.

The restaurant offers a good selection of meals cooked fresh every day, if you want gourmet quality then go to a 5 star restaurant and pay through the nose! If you want a good honest meal, thats cooked fresh, served well, tastes good, and is value for money then Laylocks is the place to be! The home made cakes and scones are to die for, honest, I for one cant get enough of them, tea and a slice of cake, what can be more traditional and simple to serve?

The choice of light lunches was poor, no paninis left (and we weren't late), the only choice for sandwiches/baguettes was chicken or ham. The salad bar was tiny, limited again and not well presented. After having a lovely roast at the kings head we sat in their garden having a drink. Really unprofessionally the manager came over from the star inn and asked us to join them because ‘the drinks are cheaper’ Maybe but the live music is awful and your pub is empty - we now know why. So rude. Really unprofessional and an awful attitude to have towards another local business Absolutely no business coming from our large group who would have happily spent money behind the bar.

An amazing Sunday lunch at this lovely local pub. Visited with friends and 3 of us chose the roast beef. It is the best beef I've eaten. My friend, who is a vegetarian, had the Sunday roast but substituted the meat for cauliflower cheese...which she loved. I would highly recommend this lovely place for a warm and friendly Sunday lunch.
