Had been looking forward to nipping over to get some pies for a while..We went and purchased 3 meat and potato pies to warm up when we got home for lunch.Plenty of filling and plenty of flavour and the pastry was lovely.. Looking forward to going again to try one of the chicken and veg pies.The bakery has outdoor seating and serves meals (pie and chips).. It was very popular and we can see why.The shop itself is lovely (it's like something from an old book) and the staff very friendly.Shall see you soon. x

Thanks to wonderful staff at Lawton's we loved our visit..it rained heavily as we sat outside enjoying pie, chips and gravy. You offered us indoors but I couldn't be happier sat outside. Memories flooded my mind as my family have been visiting this restaurant for 40+ years, I even popped in on my honeymoon. I now had two young boys of my own who have enjoyed sharing in this special place. You have made my holiday in the peak for my 40th thanks so much!

Called in here the other day for lunch and found the place very welcoming, with lovely staff. We both had pie, chips and gravy. It was spot on! Will definitely be back!

Regularly visit Lawton’s pies for pie chips and gravy and it never fails to disappoint! The best home made chips are served here and the staff are always so friendly. Would highly recommend to everyone visiting Leek!

So enjoyed my first visit to Lawton pies last week. Staff were cheery, service excellent and most importantly.... fabulous food. Leek is lucky to have such a place!

Visited this cafe in Leek for the first (and last) time. The menu board on the wall opposite the counter listed various pies all served with 'hand cut' chips and gravy. I asked for the cheese and onion pie, which they had none. I asked if they had any other vegetarian pies, was told no. I asked if the gravy was vegetarian they said 'don't know' and were very reluctant to find out. I then opted for just a plate of their 'hand cut' chips. Which I was charged just under £4 for, no salad no gravy, just chips. I was looking forward to them, however they were the worst chips I've ever had!! Certainly not hand cut, seen more convincing and better 'hand cut' chips in a mingy kebab shop. I asked one of the waitresses and an older lady came up to me and was rather rude and abrupt asking me 'what's up' she then tried to convince me that the chips were hand cut. Well I won't be recommending this place to anyone or returning. Awful overpriced frozen oven chips and unhelpful abrupt staff!!

Would have thought the meal of chips and meat and potato pie with gravy would be tasty but in reality the gravy was tasteless from a jar and chips no better than out of a frozen packet and nowhere looking like hand cut think they mean machine cut and fed in by hand , have dined here before but never again the pie was so so pastry ok

We had lunch here and were very pleasantly surprised. The service was totally smiling and friendly, good choice of meals at reasonable £. The pie pastry was really good and likewise for egg custard, probably the best I’ve ever had. Our granddaughter gave the thumbs up too, she was very impressed with the oatcakes! Will be keen to return.

Called in for a quick brew and decided to have a teacake as well. What a lovely little find! Friendly staff who were quick to serve, and the tracakes were the best I have ever tasted. Thinner than usual so toasted to perfection. Definitely recommend a visit.

First time in Leek and found this small cafe. Plenty of variety on the menu and both my wife and I were served cracking meals at very reasonable prices. Would recommend a visit and next time we are in Leek by sure to find us here

We often buy the pies here to take out. We don’t tend to sit in and eat. The pies are home made and absolutely amazing Always greeted with a smile and great value

We moved to the Welsh coast 2 years ago and when we come back this is where we eat lunch. Fabulous pastry, best I've had.

Had a great breakfast and the parties, bread and pies are also lovely. Highly recommended as a genuine family run traditional cafe

Love the pies here, the most beautiful, light pastry. There isn'nt much meat in the meat & potatoe pie but honestly it doesn't matter because they taste amazing.

Lovely home made pies here. All tasty and baked throughout the day. Sell loads to takeaway but also have cafe too - PIES ARE GREAT - ESP MEAT AND POTATO

I used to go here over 40 years ago with my grandparents and great aunt at that time egg custard was order of the day, 40 years later the shop is almost exactly the same except the counter is now at the front, the pies are still great, no egg custard this time but the meat and potato was great. Its nice that some things do not change :)

As always best pies (i think). In leek been buying pie's From this shop for twenty years or more still same and the Best. (I think)

visited this cafe for first time don't know what all the fuss is about i feel the pies are small which not a lot of meat the chips seemed to be reheated in microwave not fresh although the pie was fresh and this shop is traditional give me a pukka pie any day also a small mug of tea for £1 25 overall not good value in my opinion .while sat at table noticed one of the staff while preparing to put gravy or peas on plate moving pie with bare hands not very hygienic needles to say i won't use again

Great location for busy people and shoppers with indoor and outdoor seating. Comfort food menu for lunch time looked very good. This is neat and tidy establishment with friendly staff. Must be one of the cheapest - a mug of hot chocolate is £1-95!

We visit Leek at least twice a year and stay at the Premier Inn but always have our breakfast at Lawton's. We wouldn't go anywhere else, great service, tasty eggs and bacon, great value and always feel welcome. The place for breakfast when in town.

A local eatery for us with great pies and hot sandwiches and an excellent choice of cakes... what more could you want? Staff are friendly and helpful. The pies here are my daughter’s all-time favourites!!!

I called in to try the pies, decided to stay for a coffee,and thought I would try the breakfast. I got 2 bacon,a sausage egg,was given the choice of beans or tomatoes, went with beans , toast and a cup of coffee and it was less than a fiver. GREAT VALUE.

I have been eating pies from here since I was very young as my parents always brought these home on a Saturday lunchtime when I was growing up. Delicious, home cooked pies - theres always a long queue, often outside of the shop, which is an indication of how good they are!

old fashioned café. very traditional. never been before. when we walked in we were not greeted. attention seemed to be more for the locals. found a table and sat there not knowing wether it was waitress service or order at counter until some body eventually told us while running past with some body elses meal. menu normal british fare. did not try the pies but they looked nice. we had cheese and beans on toast and oatcakes. these were okay. owner seemed polite and helpful . female staff seemed preoccupied and indifferent on the whole. wont be calling again I don't think. didn't feel welcome just awkward and in the way

Really a great little cafe to enjoy a great cup of tea or coffee with a first class meal of traditonal food. Served in a lovely cafe by great Staff. Nothing is too much trouble. Very reasonable prices on every they sell.

Basic cafe but good prices and fantastic HOME MADE chips - worth going just for the chips ! The cafe closes early (13:30) which is not obvious

The title says it all really. My personal favourites are a tie between the meat and potato and the steak and onion pies, both are very tasty and well made. Whenever I have visited the shop the staff are always friendly and polite. 10/10.

The meat and potato pie was delicious, with homemade chips and mushy peas. On a cold wet day this went down a treat!

Hoy visitamos Lawtons. Mi madre me sentí muy mal. Necesitamos conseguir algo de comer, así que ella fuera y tenía tanto a sat y tostadas. Ella estaba desesperada por el inodoro (ella es 74) y me dijeron que no había nadie! Es mi entendimiento de que cualquier establecimiento de venta de comida y bebida deben ofrecer instalaciones que no entiendo en absoluto. Las tartas son deliciosos, sí, pero a diferencia de precio si comer o tomar distancia es enorme. Estoy de acuerdo en que debería costar unos 52 centavos más para comer en platos deberán ser lavados, etc. pero la diferencia en el precio era de 75 p teacake cada uno! Eso es ridículo. £1. 10 para llevar, pero £1. 85 a comer? Cuesta 8 libras. 05 sólo 2 bebidas calientes, 2 rebanadas de pan y 2 tanto a. Camarera parecía que ella no importa el cliente, y la falta de atención al cliente era atroz. Mi madre vive en España (y algunos dicen que este es un país hacia atrás), pero en cada café/restaurante/tienda que vende comida y bebida, por ley, tiene para ofrecer. Otros clientes se sorprendieron por este también. Por desgracia no volveremos y no recomendaré como ancianos lugar tristemente.

Cakes and pies excellent. Served quickly and well by ladies of a certain age. Enjoyable comfort food. 90 years in business making pies and cakes. Says it all.

Amor siempre les Lawtons tartas un par de veces al mes. Carne y papas son increíbles y un montón de abundante repostería justo.

Cafetería agradable con un personal encantador. Gran tarta de patatas y un encantador café caliente en un día muy frío. Muy práctico para el centro de la ciudad, situado cerca del mercado de la zona de ducha. Muy limpio.

Llamado para el almuerzo. Tarta, patatas fritas y pedimos salsa y desayuno durante todo el día. Ambos eran hoy y bastante agradable. Personal bueno y amable servicio.

Preciosa pastelería, el mejor que he probado. Vamos a menudo y toda la familia me encanta. Pero se ejecutan rápidamente, así que llegar allí!

I live in leek and i have always gone here for amazing pies, I been going here for years and they have always been consistent quality and to top it off they are great value for money.

yummy homes made pies!! You cant beat these on a cold winters day! Lovely café and nice prices too. Nothing like what you get at other large pie shops, these have a lovely crunchy pastry and go fantastic with chips and a little gravy!

Lawton's Pies cafe has always looked a nice place to be, so I suggested it to a friend who was about to move from Leek, to give him a break from packing. The menu was relatively typical of a daytime cafe. I chose a scone to accompany my drink of tea. The scone was quite good, as was the service. Our visit was towards the end of opening time and the member of staff at the counter seemed tired and disinterested in the few customers in the cafe. I'll probably return to buy one of the famous Lawton's Pies, but not bother with sitting in for refreshments.

This old established cafe is always well patronised and you often have to queue to get a seat. The main fare is pie and chips and this is always popular with diners, who can choose from a good variety of very well made pies. Other options are available, such as liver and onions or braised steak. Cafes like this are to be treasured - one day they may no longer exist.

Many years ago we looked forward to pie and chips in the stoke area. We have returned after 20 years to find all the known places go. So gave Lawtons Pies a try (new to us), just great, I had seconds, they were like we remembered. Highly recomended

Tried the Meat and Potato and yes, you are all right The Best Meat and Potato Pie I have ever tasted. I would have liked to have sampled other pies but not a lot left!Very reasonable prices too.Wish we had a pie shop like this in our area!

i find it very hard to go elsewhere when in leek at dinner time the pies are all freshly made and the milky coffee is brilliant

Just called for coffee. Very nice. Must go back for a meal.Noticed a wide range of freshly made pies seemed to be very popular with the regulars.

The pies here are lovely. My sons love them and iv been a few times and ate in. Traditional home cooked food. Tasty and plentiful.The only downside is the lady who runs/owns it seems to be very opinionated in the back and can be heard from tables in the cafe. Constantly on at staff. Almost bickering with herself. The staff are capable and lovely and i feel they are henpecked. Really not what you want to hear whilst eating lunch.

I miss Lawton s pies and whenever I'm home from Oz the first place I call in is at Lawton for a pie. Try the meat and potato you won't regret it

Visitors to Leek quite regularly and we always call in here for a coffee and a quick bite to eat. Every time it has been excellent and great value for money. Highly recommended!

genuinely "home-made" cakes, pies, bakewell tart, fruit tarts, chocolate cookies, and nice savouries. Enjoyed mince and onion pie, very good pastry, with chips and tea.

Liked everything on offer in a dated cafe. Dated is not a bad thing as the decor is excellent as it has bee since I was a child. A bastion of another way of life. I hope my great grandchildren will also see this place unchanged. To top it all the pies are fantastic. My favourite is steak and onion , my wife's meat and potato. The pies too have never changed taste in 49 years I can remember eating then.

Very friendly, long established pie shop which seems to have improved the internal decor since my last visit. The red & white tablecloths look great! This cafe is a favourite for locals but I am sure the new appearance will encourage visitors to stop and sample the pies & snacks on offer. Nice selection of cakes as well.

I have visited this restaurant on numerous occasions and they have yet to let me down. The staff are friendly and always greet you with a warm smile. The food is also brilliant (I recommend the cheese and onion pies!). All this for fantastic value for money.I have also ordered cupcakes from Winkles Cupcakes (part of the Lawton Company). The cupcakes not only looked fantastic but tasted just as good!I would recommend Lawtons Pies to anyone visiting Leek!

I ordered a box of 18 pie's to be delivered to Cornwall, they delivered on time, and well packaged so they were as fresh as they were baked also included was a preheating and freezing instructions.they were enjoyed muchly by my Partner and his son who were missing a taste of home.

My parents and I often visit Leek and I had heard good things about Lawtons and their pies so we decided to have lunch there. The place is small but we got a table even though it was very busy. The menu is excellent, service is fast and I can't fault the food. Meat and potato pie, chips peas and gravy went down an absolute treat. All the time we were eating people were coming in for pies to take out and I don't blame them at all. The staff were wonderful, friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. I bought some pies to take home and they were kept behind the counter until we left, and they were just as good later that day.

Had these pies since I was very young. My job then took me all around the world, and I can tell you, nothing comes even close to this little shop in my lovely home town of Leek. Pies to die for!!! Pie eaters of the world converge, Lawton's Pie Shop. You won't get better!

Two pies, both with peas, one with chips, two teas and two cakes - all for around £11. Homemade pies are excellent as are the chips. Lovely old fashioned atmosphere with friendly staff.Have had far less pleasant food served by unfriendly staff for ten times the price of this. Now looking for another excuse to be in Leek at lunchtime!

Once a month we visit Leek, and always call into Lawtons Bakery for our breakfast.The food,service and welcome is always gaurented .There are other establishments around that serve coffee and food but you cannot beat the WELCOME you recive from this little treasure.

Always pleasant,never have to wait long,delicious food and chips are to die for.I have twin grandsons who live in Ashby De La Zouch and I have to take two meat and potato pies every week for them.The only downer for the restaurant is that the restaurant is small and you have to get there early especially on a Wednesday,Leek market day.

Had a lovely meal with delicious pies. Also had the custard tarts as well - very nice indeed. We had a groupon voucher for our meal but will definitely be going back. Staff were very friendly and polite. A good old fashioned shop selling good food.

This cafe has been a must visit for years. It is a regular with all town residents for its famous pies and I have been eating them since I was a child like most locals. We now drive 1/2 hour for its delights. However, it is also a sit in cafe with amazing cakes, sandwiches, jackets and comfort food to suit every age and taste. The atmosphere is very welcoming and relaxed with friendly chatty staff and the owners themselves. We are such fans that we even booked them for our wedding to do cupcakes and they went down a storm and looked exceptional. Excellent food, variety, atmosphere and value for money. Can recommend this place enough!

Well what can i say , i was completely shocked by the quality of the home baked meal i enjoyed at Lawtons.The little restaurant was warm and friendly . What surprised me more than anything was the fact everything was made on the premises ! Many places state that but usually they are just baked off and mass produced elsewhere .The staff where very helpful towards the customers going out of there way to help and assit .Well worth a visit , bad news is they only open 9-4pm , if they opened up in the evening i am sure they would be packed out as they are in the days .

Visited Easter time.had their home made pie and chips,really lovely.even the staff were pleasant which makes a nice change.got change from 20.00 quid for four of us.bargain
