Absolutely vile. I took mother for her birthday, a treat supposed to be as we don’t spend this much normally. Hairs on the table cloth, that was my first thought of no way. Flys near table. constantly wafting away. Got nice bottle of wine for us, fly got in. Never, ever again,

We also had an afternoon tea booked for 3.30 which we got to promptly. We didn't get our afternoon tea served until 4.15 and there was only 2 other couples there. There wasn't much choice on the afternoon tea and quite frankly it wasn't enjoyable. Now for the worst part of our whole weekend away. The dinner. We were greeted at the restaurant reception by two young girls telling us they're fully booked and we should have booked dinner on our arrival to the hotel. NOT ONE PERSON mentioned this to us when we checked in. They did manage to sit us down after I firmly told them that no one informed us of this and I did appreciate that. Once we sat down this is where it got even worse. The girl that served us, you could see she did not want to be there one bit. We were sat down next to the windows which were covered with a ton of flies to make things better one of the flies actually ended up in our food. They didn't seem to bothered about this and we asked to move and so did 4 different couples following us. We ordered our food and actually it came quite quickly but whilst eating my soup of the day I found a hair in it. When I told the waitress she just said oh okay and then took the food way, no apologies nothing she just sent the manager over. The manager then apologised and asked if I wanted another bowl of soup to which I said no and waited for our main. When it arrived we ate it (it was okay nothing exciting) and then asked for our bill so we could leave.( Baring in mind we had £25 per person for dinner from the package we bight). We waited about 15-20 minutes for the actual bill because every-time we asked we seemed to get ignored. The best part was when we finally got the bill the waitress didn't know anything about this credit and asked the manager to come over, when we looked closer the SOUP WITH THE HAIR was still on the bill!! Why should I pay for something that I did eat in the end? The £50 credit we had covered more than our meal so we could get something else if they had taken the soup off but we were still made to pay an additional £6 for the drinks and the £50 credit was taken. There was absolutely no apology or no sense of them doing anything wrong by asking us to pay for the soup. This did ruin our stay and I personally wouldn't go back I feel like the money we paid for the package just was not worth it whatsoever and the worst part is we drove 5 hours there thinking we were going to have an amazing weekend. DISSAPOINTED

First of all there was no one in reception as he was serving in bar. Later he was in reception so no barman and then he was taking money in restaurant. The website invites one to have a pre-dinner cocktail in the Burns Bar or a wee dram before retiring. I asked the maitre’d about cocktails ‘we don’t do cocktails ‘. Later showed her website ‘that’s not up to date’. We ordered drinks at table which took ages. My whiskey and lemonade was pre mixed and tasted funny. Later in meal I ordered a 2nd whisky to dilute the lemonade. After waiting about 30 minutes I went in search of it (2 trays of drinks had been brought in meantime). I then got the drink with compliments of manager. When I got my bill I saw I’d been served Jack Daniels not scotch from the Burns Bar! From previous reviews the service has always been poor even before covid so that’s no excuse. The waitress Lucy was lovely

I was recently gifted a voucher for afternoon tea at Kilhey Court by some friends who remembered that my husband and I got married in the hotel previously. Decided to make use of the voucher on our wedding anniversary as a special treat and had been very much looking forward to being back at the place where we celebrated our special day. From the beginning the whole experience was rather underwhelming - having to wait to be seated despite the restaurant being virtually empty when we arrived, then having a further delay as the staff member had to start rearranging tables before we could sit down. Mild inconvenience perhaps but not a great start. Once seated at the table I noticed that my husband and I had mismatched cups, again minor detail but as a 4* hotel you kind of expect those kind of details to be taken into account. Waited for a short while before another member of staff arrived to take my voucher and ask whether we would like tea or coffee - both my husband and myself opted for coffee and fairly promptly the lady returned with a smallish cafetiere for the both of us to share. Another 5-10 minutes passed and then food was delivered. Again, perhaps a bit nitpicky but presentation wasn't fab - the middle tier with the mini cakes looked thrown together rather than any real care having been taken with it. Food itself was tasty enough however nobody came over at any point either to check that everything was ok or check of we would have liked a refill of coffee. When I looked around there didn't even appear to be any staff milling around that I could ask for another drink which I just found a bit poor. Ultimately we just finished our food and left as it didn't feel like anyone was remotely interested in enhancing or improving the dining experience. Overall a very lackluster experience and also rather disappointing after having previously had such lovely memories of the place - made even worse when I realised how much my friends has paid for the whole thing too. Sorry Kilhey Court but I wouldn't be recommending this experience to anyone else.

Visited Kilhey court Wigan for Leaving do on 8/9/19 , 8 people for spa Day with cream tea, paid extra £10 to upgrade to afternoon tea, a further 7 people came later for afternoon tea so 15 of us altogether. Treatments great, spa experience massive disappointment, only pool and jacuzzi available as sauna and steam room out of order( no one advised us of this on arrival! ! Afternoon tea was even bigger disappointment, nothing like in advert 1 cup tea or coffee, didn't get offered more and no staff about to ask for more, asked for prosecco 8 of us paid for but was told wasn't in offer?? Rang and complained to leisure manager following day who had organised it ( Nicola) she apologised and said she would look into it which she did and made offer same day to return for complimentary afternoon tea and 20% discount on any treatments which sounded fair but have rung 6 times to book, been constantly told nicola is either Day off, in Classes, in meeting etc messages left each time for her to contact me buy never has!! Rang last week and demanded she rang, she did but i missed call i have not been able to speak with her since! I can't believe not one other member of staff is unable to book us in when she is off etc!! I would never return nor recomend this place, this is first of 15 bad reviews

I booked Afternoon Tea at The Laureate Restaurant for all the delegates as part of the Mysore Medical College Reunion held in early September 2019. It was a truly delightful experience with a vast selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes arranged beautifully on tiered stands and served to each table. They made a complete tier just for me with eggless cakes, scones and sandwiches as I am allergic to eggs. The glutton in me woke up and devoured as much as was possible!!The staff were very friendly and came round to offer refills of coffee and tea. It is an experience not to be missed!!There is a promotion running at the moment offering discounted rates for midweek lunches and afternoon teas at The Laureate Restaurant, I would thoroughly recommend the experience!

This was our second visit here for the special value mid week lunch at £6.95 per person. The first time we went the food was very good but the service poor. We were seated in a slightly remote part of the restaurant as a consequence of which there were no staff in the area unless we called for them so we put the poor service down to this. The second time we were seated in the centre of a small area of the restaurant which was full. Once again the service was poor, if anything worse than the previous visit. Whilst accepting the exceptional value of the food in lovely surroundings this does not excuse poor service. We were not asked for our choice of potatoes and on realising this we called a waitress who noted our choices. The hot starters were brought to the table before the cold so were cooling whilst waiting for the cold dishes. All main courses were served with chips when 2 of the group had requested boiled new potatoes. One person cannot eat chips so requested the new potatoes, they had to be requested twice before being brought to the table to be added to the plated meal containing chips. No steak knives were brought for those who had chosen that and had to be requested but if we had waited for the steak knives before eating, the meal would have been cold. We asked for a jug of water which was promptly brought to the table but with one glass short, again we had to ask for that and again it took a good while. It appeared that none of the staff had responsibility for any particular tables and all staff were serving all tables. The poor service was mentioned on paying the bill and the explanation was that they had been very busy, I explained about the previous visit when it hadn't been so busy and said this was not good. The waitress did apologise and ask me to give them another chance on another visit. There were adequate staff working in the restaurant on both visits so the only reason I can think of for the poor service is bad organisation. All of that said the food is very good and if you are prepared to tolerate poor service then I would give it a go, as to whether I will try for third time lucky I haven't decided yet..

After having a lovely Christmas lunch at Kilhay Court last year we were all looking forward to great food & service again this year. Unfortunately we were disappointed. After expecting to be seated at 1pm & waiting around 45 minutes to go through to our table, we waited a further 25 minutes for the Amuse Bouché which were served on 3 side plates that were just left at the end of the table. Another half hour wait & the starters were served over a period of around 15 minutes. No bread rolls despite the majority of the party having soup. The afternoon continued along the same lines with long waits during each course & the table not being cleared completely before fresh food was served. Some of the mains were fine, others very inconsistent and there was complete confusion around the deserts. By 5.30 some of the party had to leave despite not having had the last course. Throughout we asked staff to deal with some of the issues, however they were so rushed & trying to placate other customers that they had no chance of getting on top of things. There did not seem to be anyone directing service & no managers around to speak directly with customers. Eventually we managed to speak to a member of the bar staff, George, regarding our experience. To his credit he made no excuses for the failings & couldn’t apologise enough, but confessed that as we had paid in advance, couldn’t offer any refunds. When asked if he could do anything with regards to the bar bill he went to find a manager & offered a reasonable conclusion.

Overall very disappointed & will not be returning. My mother & I chose to have our Christmas dinner here on the basis that we had a fabulous time 2 years ago when we had had an excellent meal, personal waiter & pleasure of listening to a pianist play Christmas songs all afternoon. However this year we waited 2 hours for our main course which was served warm/cold with inedible potatoes & grizzley turkey. The goats cheese parcel starter was burnt. There was no background music & waiter service was very poor. Several guests were complaining to staff. The only member of staff trying his best all afternoon to be helpful & courteous was a young man called Jack. I doubt that any tips were left but if they were then they should all go to Jack. The hotel are lucky to have him on their staff as everyone else had a couldn’t careless attitude. The meal cost £70 each paid in advance, sparkling water & ginger ale £6.50! Compensation as a gesture of good will and Christmas spirit is due please.

We visited Kilhey Court as a family of 11 for our Christmas meal. We paid £70 pound per head in advance, unfortunately. The food itself was fine, but the service, our lack of, was awful. We arrived for the 2pm Christmas Day service, but didn’t get our starters until 3:30pm. We had to skip a course, and then skip coffee and mince pies, to finish for 6pm, as some our family had to leave. None of the front of house staff seemed to care, despite our multiple complaints, and the many complaints we saw being made by other families having a similar experience.i would warn anyone off eating here, or staying here at all for any function, purely down to the blatant disregard the front of house staff showed during our meal.

Having used this restaurant on and off for over 28 years, I have seen it at its very best and also in the doldrums. It used to attract many diners who were not guests at The Kilhey Court Hotel to which it is attached but over the years these diners seem to have deserted it. This is a shame as the standard of food on my recent visit was superb but the restaurant does need to look at the quality of its staff which unfortunately falls well below the level of the food served.

Had afternoon tea after visiting the very pleasant spa facilities. Unfortunately for us there was a very loud wartime duo on in the restaurant which made the experience very odd. In fact when we arrived they were doing a quiz! Staff couldn’t find my booking and I had to prompt them to bring our prosecco. Good selection of cakes and standard fare of sandwiches. Disappointing that the scones were served with whipped cream and not clotted cream. I asked the waitress how long the entertainment was on for, so she knew I was unhappy, but no offer made to move us. We could barely talk across the table. Shame as I understood it was Remembrance Sunday, but it was a really odd experience all around and ruined our experience.

Let me first of all say, would it have been just for the food, my score would have been a full five, with a bonus, too. The best asparagus risotto ever, and just lovely venison, and even the Apple Charlotte as dessert was simply sublime. The wine list is very good, we had an excellent Pinot Noir. But, alas, it seemed that the staff probably was in training, and unfortunately not reached perfection yet. Apart from the long wait, there were small glitsches that need to be sorted out. The wine came, but no glasses, and having to open the bottle yoursel and pour the wine, although I an ok to handle it (actually have to do back home...), in a restaurant at this quality level you just shouldn’t have to see that happen. Along with a few other minor misses, it gave me an impression of comptence in developing. Having said that, the staff did all in their powers to apologize, and really tried their best, and the in-charge even came in person to apologize and offer us an extra Prosecco on the house. So, all forgiven, especially thanks to the excellent kitchen and the friendliness.

Booked in here for my husbands 40th. The menu looked really nice but the experience was disappointing. I ordered the smoked salmon starter which was advertised as being with pickled cucumber, beetroot, creme fraiche and ciabatta. The beetroot and creme fraiche were none existent, the cucumber was served on top of salmon a couple of chunky sticks (crudités) along with some carrot sticks. Nothing was pickled and there was no ciabatta. My husband had the tomato soup which was ok but quite a lot of it and only one small slice of bread (no butter). The main I have to say was lovely we both ordered the ribeye steak but service was very slow. I asked for vinegar and the waitress forgot. I had to remind her and she still took forever to find it. We noticed the diners on the next table were also frustrated by how long everything took. We didn't wait for the bill and went straight to the till to pay to avoid any further waiting. Lots of potential but very disappointing.

We came here for a family dinner and when we were given the menus we noticed there were two different pages of starters so we asked which one was correct. They took away one menu with the wrong page in a brought back a corrected one. So we now had two correct menus between five of us.We ordered appetisers and one of our group ordered soup of the day which we were advised was tomato so we were a little surprised when leek and potato soup arrived. We had to ask for a spoon and no bread was forthcoming. For main course two of our group ordered steak with a side sauce however only one sauce came and when we pointed this out they offered to get the sauce which then arrived after he had finished the steak. When he pointed out he had finished and no longer needed the space they said fine would you like a desert. When the bill arrived we were charged an extra main course and no surprise the sauce that was not also appeared there. This was corrected on request. The food itself was extremely well prepared and tasty but this restaurant really needs to get some experienced staff in to do justice to the ability of the chef.

The staff were attentive and very pleasant, although I was surprised when a young waiter came and removed my husband's crockery etc whilst I was still eating! (Perhaps he was training)? The restaurant itself is lovely it takes you back in time and gives the impression of a Victorian establishment with beautiful grounds. We ate at this restaurant after not going for a few years, it used to be a real favourite. The food was good although quite small portions, atmosphere was lacking as there were so few people actually dining but what actually made our night was Brian, one of the managers. His helpfulness and service were exemplary, he really made the whole evening most enjoyable

I came here for lunch during a conference at the venue, the eating area is very nice with lots of windows and beautiful views. A waitress showed us to our table, a waiter appeared and I assume from her instructions that he was new to the job - they were both friendly and more than capable. I was very impressed by the chef, he made a real effort to ensure that we were happy and was concocting requests which were not even on the menu (we had some difficult diners) - he whipped out two custom dishes at the speed-of-light. He was proud to stand by the food that he prepared which is a nice change from the generic chef hiding away in the kitchen.I would eat here again as the venue, food and service pleased me.

We had a table of 10 for a family Christmas meal and also 4 bedrooms. we had visited to book, look and pick the rooms at the venue and it was as a possibility as a venue for a future function. The way we were treated, service, etc certainly made us change our minds in this being a place on the list the whole meal experience was a shambles and the food considering it was pre ordered was not to satisfaction and the Resturant staff were unprofessional, untrained and rude.

The restaurant is a very nice area of the hotel. Quite art deco. The centre area reminds me of a bandstand. The service was very good. Attentive but not over bearing. The food was excellent. Started arrived on warm plates and the food was a good temperature. Goats cheese and fig tart for me, pigeon for my partner. Seabass and fillet steak for main. All meals were well presented and very tasty. A cheese board was shared as we had no room for dessert. The biscuits weren't to my taste but were swiftly replaced with others. Overall a very good experience. Will visit again.

Booked in for a meal mid September (sorry for the late review).Let me start with breakfast. the service was extremely slow, I've been before and it was slow but 2 staff for a full restaurant? I went to the bar that afternoon and was served by a tall gentleman, Jack i think his name tag read. i asked for some nuts and olives as i saw other people eating them. he told me there was none left till the following day, which was fine. UNTIL I SAW HIM EATING THEM. you cant do that in front of customers jack. and not only that, but he was shaking dropping olives all over the floor, my brother stood in some and ruined his sketchers!

I need to first make it clear that this is a review regarding a Christmas evening dinner and disco in the Tennyson Suite at Kilhey Court. If this the not the correct place for such a review then please move the review to the correct place. We have been to several local venues for a Christmas meal over the last few years, but this meal rates as the poorest by far. The starter was fine, but the sea bass, which a few of us on the table had, as an alternative to turkey for the main course was really poor. It consisted of a very small piece of sea bass and an extremely small portion of vegetables and potatoes. I fully understand the difficulties of mass catering at such events but there is no excuse for providing such a small portion for the main course. I accept that my company was paying for the meal, but this showed a total disregard to the customer, company or individual. Going out for a Christmas meal you expect to be reasonably satisfied by the end of the meal. This most definitely was not the case on this occasion - we still felt hungry at the end of the meal.We have had good meals in the Laureate restaurant some years ago, but based on this experience, it is most unlikely that I would be persuaded to return to the Laureate Restaurant at Kilhey Court.

This was a most enjoyable meal, served in a fine Victorian conservatory within an elegant country house hotel. It's difficult to imagine a more perfect dining experience. It started with a welcoming greeting and was followed up by attentive service throughout; the 3-course menu we chose from suited our palates and our appetites, and the food itself was beautifully cooked and very well presented.

This venue is fantastic, a most interesting restaurant in a marvellous old Victorian conservatory in an amazing country house in a fantastic setting. The food was actually quite good and so was the service BUT very dark and dingy with no atmosphere whatsoever, probably because it was almost empty and very depressing background music. It would be a fantastic project for Alex Polizzi!! The hotel is so beautiful and the grounds really beautiful and I believe an enormous amount has been spent on refurbishing the bedrooms. But something needs to be done to lighten and modernise the restaurant whilst still retaining it's character so that it would attract more customers. We have only seen it for Sunday Lunch but it doesn't make us feel like returning - please do something about it Management, you have such a beautiful place!!

The menus here are as standard, one set menu and an a la carte. We had the set menu on our first night, the food served was nice but nothing special and the menu selection limited. We had no complaints about the food but it was standard fare and not quite what you would expect in the class of hotel that they were trying to portray.

Stayed in the hotel for a couple of nights, dinner on Saturday night and breakfast on Sunday and Monday. Dinner on Saturday was from a set menu with a few choices for each of three courses charged at £20 a head. Service and meal were excellent. Starters of soup and melon with black currant sorbet, mains chicken and duck and deserts of chocolate brownies and a spiced rum pannacotta. Could not fault the food at all, both of us more than happy and would have been prepared to pay double. No problems with breakfast on the two mornings, buffet service on Sunday and cooked to order on Monday. Service was friendly and polite and no waiting for breakfast to be served after ordering.

We ate at this restaurant last night 2nd April, together with 2 friends. We had booked using the taste card. The waitress advised that we could have a starter and main from either menu provided for £25pp, so proceeded to order. Everyone enjoyed their starter and main, and as it was tasty, asked for extra bread, thinking that as with other restaurants that we have visited there would be no charge ( ended up it was £5.50 a go!). Desserts were then ordered, my wife and 2 friends enjoyed theirs, but I had Sticky toffee pudding, it was the worst I have ever had. It was rock hard, I can only assume it was the last piece and had been on a hot plate gradually solidifying. This was bought to the attention of the waiting staff, who just said sorry and that they would inform the chef in the morning, no offer of an alternative, or not to charge for it. The double packs obtainable from ASDA at £1.49 are of a better standard, and this is fine dining??So to payment, I was taken aback when the bill came for £126, which as we were using the taste card seemed excessive, but our friends said it's fine and so paid. But having got home and worked it out ourselves my bill comes to £104, and I think it was because they itemised everything instead of charging £25pp for 2 courses.Overall, a disappointing experience, especially with the lack of any meaningful action over the dessert, and being overcharged.

Had dinner, breakfast and lunch in the restaurant so feel am equipped to review after the full experience.Dinner was stunning with excellent food, presented beautifully clearly using quality ingredients. Mine and my companions only niggle was that the portions were way to small. One tiny see through crisp bread to go with rillettes starter and salmon with one tiny thin carrot is just not enough. Dessert served was just as miniscule-surely they can afford to up the portion quota slightly for the amount being charged?Breakfast was very hit and miss. The cold buffet selection was fantastic. Very fresh and plentiful with lots to chose from. The let down were the cooked breakfasts. Very small portions again, served stone cold-no thought or attention gone onto our breakfasts at all. Pretty rubbish.Lunch was lovely, no complaints. Beautiful chicken, cous cous and other bits and bobs, served in a lunch box style-very imaginative and tasty. If they could get some bits sorted it would be amazing.

My husband, daughter and I ate here on a Thurday evening. We had a drink in the hotel bar before the meal and the price of three drinks made our eyes water! The menu was varied and we all chose different starters. They took a while to come so the waitress brought us complimentary breads and a dip as an apology. Our food was very good, as were the steaks, veg and chips. My daughter had chosen pasta for her main course but was disappointed with it.The wine list was expensive. It really is a business man's hotel with the prices reflecting this, easy to pay when it is going on a business account. We were pleased though with our food and would eat here again if we were staying, but I know that you can get better value for money close by.

We had a meal on Sunday 25th Jan at Kilhey Court. On the whole, the meal and service can only be described as average. The starters are not of good value(very over priced and small ) and considering that at 6.45 pm when the restaurant was very quiet, the soup was only warm. When we ordered 3 steaks, the waiters did not know which were medium/ well done or medium to well done. Drinks are ridiculously expensive.( make sure you check your bill for over charging as we were initially charged £ 11.50 for a glass of Sauvignon). To be fair, as one of the mains had to be sent back, we were given a discount. Not good, as one of our party ( the birthday girl ) had to wait and dine alone. Not recommending this restaurant to anybody.

The catered well for my wife who is wheat intolerant. The food is also largely fresh and locally sourced. However the menu is not labelled with Gluten Free or Vegetarian, nor is there a separate Gluten Free menu (many places have this now). My starter was clearly bought in (they really should say what is made and what is bought in) and my homemade burger (which was delicious) came on what was a cold and clearly pre-grilled bun, it also had two pieces of cold cheese laid on top (would have been nice to be melted on top) and the associated salad did not appear at all. One other curios point the wine list while describing the wines - did not list the vineyard (we had Chianti Classico). Bit disappointing but tasty

I stay at this hotel regularly, but its not for the food! Some months ago they seem to have changed most of their staff, the replacements are in-experienced and dont seem to know what they are doing. Service is slow, the selection of food is poor, and the food itself is sub standard and over priced. I've eaten here recently and the situation was unchanged. Beautiful setting!

I picked the Laureate for an evening meal on a business trip to a desolate hotel about 10 miles away, knowing very little about it. The building is something of a 'wow' and it looks the part in terms of décor, but the meal was slightly disappointing. At £25 for three courses. it seemed good value for the set meal but was just rather ordinary. My salmon was baked just that bit too dry, while my companion's slow cooked belly pork was a thick, rubbery disaster. It's not an easy one to get right to order, admittedly, but it did not work at all. Desserts - particularly the sticky toffee pudding - partially redeemed it, they were excellent. Service was surprisingly amateurish from a mainly very young team.

I recently enjoyed a lovely evening with friends at the Laureate Restaurant at Kilhey Court. The restaurant was very quiet but the service and food were excellent. I started with onion and goats cheese tart which was cooked fresh and this was followed by the lemon sole which was cooked to perfection. I passed on the sweets and plumped for coffee, which was served in the lounge. I had to ask for chocolates with the coffee but these arrived without a fuss! After the meal we spent quite a while having a chat in the comfortable lounge and at no point did we feel rushed or pressurised to leave ( it was quite late when we left). My only concern was the motorised gate which seemed reluctant to open as we left and in fact we were quite concerned it might open onto the car.........thankfully it did not.A lovely evening with friends however with great food and lovely surroundings.

The breakfast here was a redeeming feature of our stay - good food, attentive staff, reasonable choice, although at £15 each when booked online it wasn't cheap (+£2.50 supplement for salmon). As for the restaurant in the evening, if there is a wedding on earlier in the day I wouldn't bother booking in because the staff are distracted with the clear up and everything on the menu seems to have been used up earlier in the day. The waiting staff obviously lack clear management and leadership - for example, on our arrival we were stood around whilst waiters zipped around us talking to each other in a worried fashion whilst a customer is carrying her starter back to the kitchen door complaining of it going cold now and there being no point in her having it, especially at £7.50 for 2 small fishcakes. Another irritating thing was one of the younger waiters shouting to the manager on a different floor to ask for instructions on what he should tidy up from the wedding tables - a little bit more self awareness would have been nice although this probably comes back to training. Once things had settled down a bit the main course arrived fairly quickly after the starter and the food was really quite nice (although not 100% as described on the menu due to aforementioned shortages). Didn't have dessert as it was £7.00 for a brownie and £3.85 for a cup of Twinnings tea (from that point of view, a £15 breakfast doesn't seem too pricey!!). Next time we'd probably eat in the local town/village.

The food was cooked to perfection, my husband had the rib-eye steak followed by sticky toffee pudding which had cinnamon in it (yum) and I had pork steak followed by knickerbocker glory. Both came on white bread smeared in mustard which i had to return.when I finally got it back they had removed all the lettuce as well. We decided on having experienced this once wonderful hotel at least twenty years ago,to have a family meal to celebrate my wife's 72nd birthday,on arrival we struggled to locate a reception desk, when we finally found the reception we were shown to our table at 7:00pm,we ordered, our starters arrived prompt enough,no problems so far, however after waiting around 40 minutes for our main course, one of the staff told us there was a problem with the "machines" in the kitchen and there would be a further delay whilst this was rectified,as I am an insulin dependant diabetic my wife requested bread rolls for myself in the interim, whilst waiting for the bread to materialise another member of staff advised that the chef had been rushed to A & E at the local hospital and had been suffering from stress(hard to believe on this particular nights evidence as other than ourselves there were only two tables occupied!!)and a replacement chef was being sought, after a further 15 minutes the meals arrived,my rib eye steak was adequate , but aqrrived with a mustard sauce instead of Diane, my wifes salmon dish, whilst cooked was not memorable, potatoes hard and my sons mushroom ravioli dish was more like a starter than a main course, containing six whole parcels of ravioli!! On finishing our main courses we were given the dessert menu, after waiting a further 20 minutes the waitress apologised and gave us different menus as we shouldn't have had the original menus apparently!!,anyway we ordered, during this period the waitress was seen to be lighting candles on each table,a few minutes later a waiter told us that the electricity would be lost in a few minutes and if we were ordering anything"hot" off the dessert menu we would not be able to have that dessert,we ordered cheese and biscuits X3,the all lights went off for around five minutes,on paying the bill three glasses of wine were removed from the bill for the inconvenience, finally on leaving the hotel we found the electric gates were locked and we had to go back into the hotel to get the code to finally leave!!AVOID!!!!

Booked a table for the breakfast sharing board for two people for this morning. Have to say it was amazing and fantastic value, however today the service let us down. We weren't asked if we wanted drinks, so I asked and was told tea/coffee wasn't included, which was fair enough, so we ordered 2 coffees, the food came and after checking online I saw it included orange juice, so had to ask for that. Great choice of food and such a lovely pub. Have been many times for afternoon tea and always received a nice welcome. I have knocked a star off today for service. We finished our food but the staff serving were sat eating breakfast, so we waited a while and no one came, so had to disturb the staff to ask them if they could box the food we hadn't managed to eat up, not a problem. Staff are lovely, however we shouldn't have to feel we are disturbing them when we need to leave.
