I do like it when we find a new café that offers good value, quality food. Although part of the retreat, the café is open to the public. The menu has the usual café treats in large variety. I went for the Brie, cranberry and bacon panni. It arrived in short order, was flavoursome & hot and accompanied by home-made slaw and crispy fresh salad. Extremely tasty. The servers were polite and efficient as you'd expect. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of food and service. Pop in if you are walking in the area, you won't be disappointed.

This beautiful Abbey is not only a joy to see, but they produce wonderful snacks and although we did not try the Sunday Lunch I would say the beef and the pork looked perfect, and such good value.

We could not get a space for Sunday Lunch, so went for the afternoon tea. What a treat, the menu on line looked good, and what arrived on a linen table cloth at a table overlooking the courtyard was a real treat. Perfect sandwiches with great fillings and lovely ham, perfect size scones with jam and cream, with a great selection of cakes on the top level. Refills on the tea and coffee. Will be back for the Sunday lunch…. Don’t drive past, as we cycled past a few years ago, call in and discover home baked cakes and great food!

We had a group of 23 friends in our own room. Very friendly and efficient staff, lovely roast dinner of Beef and or Pork, large selection of vegetables. And a large choice of tasty desserts.

Our walking group of 10 parked by the abbey and on returning after a footpath walk in lovely Leics / Rutland countryside had tea and delicious cakes. A few days later my wife and I went for a lunch we had cheese & bacon & Brie panini’s served with very fresh and crisp salads. A little unspoilt piece of england

Fantastic food at every meal (Breakfast, lunch and dinner) served by welcoming and hospitable staff. I stayed for four days at a conference in a comfortable room and was delighted by the beautiful surroundings, lovely house and great facilities. Highly recommended!

We go there quite often actually, for a cuppa, a snack, a lunch. All nice. Its not a cosy place, and its never going to get a Michelin star, but its a lovely place to go for decent food, nice staff, reasonable prices, amazing surroundings. A walk in the beautiful vicinity and a bit of lunch makes us feel, well, quite holy. (Sorry, I'm being silly, its owned by the Church). Well recommended. You turn off the A47 at East Norton, and it is a bit of a drive; nice though. Worth finding. In cold weather it can be a bit cool there, its a big place to heat, but its OK. Oh yes, it is a licensed premises.

The abbey lives up to its name. A haven of peace. Good, simple food, kind staff. The coffee needs to be better in the main café, but it's a small grumble. A great place.

A beautifully tranquil place to visit, with magnificent architecture, lovely gardens and quiet reflection. Oh yeah, it was once owned by Thomas Cromwell's son. Equally beautiful on a summer's day, or with a bit of snow on the ground.

We stayed here for three nights in the small individual Oxford and Cambridge Hermitage and it was wonderful. There is a restaurant available but we self catered. It is close to Leicester, Oakham and Uppingham so an ideal place to tour from, a must place.

I wouldn't make a special effort to go to this cafe unless passing by... Fine if you are staying on retreat but it a very helpful waitress and average coffee and cake. Nice enough but a long way off the beaten track to make a special effort for.

Splendid rural location for this retreat-house restaurant which is also open to non-retreatants - but booking a table is advisable. Lunch options include waitress-service hot or cold meals, snacks and desserts, or self-service cold meat and salad buffet. Arriving at about 1pm, my wife helped herself from the buffet while I ordered a cheese & onion baguette which was served with mixed salad and coleslaw. In both cases the food was fresh and delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful, and prices were reasonable (my baguette etc was £4.95). Afterwards we browsed the books for sale and then enjoyed a walk through the lovely grounds. The only slight downside to this lovely place is that if a silent retreat is in progress, as a matter or courtesy you obviously need to keep your conversational and other noise levels down!

Lovely pub with a nice atmosphere. Food & drinks very reasonable. Food very tasty, nice to find a pub with good wholesome food, and not a gastro-pub.

Love this place and the people who work here. Whenever I’m in the area I always make time to pop in for breakfast or a coffee. I cannot think of anywhere better in the area if you want good quality food and drink.

Great selection of fresh food, always lovely staff and a great warm greeting. The food is fresh cooked to order, except the amazing cakes and scones.
