Popped in on off chance for lunch. Ordered a toastie and dirty fries each. The toasties were delivered relatively swiftly but no sign of the fries. Had to start eating toastie before it went cold & asked twice about the fries to be told 'they're just coming'. My husband had finished his sandwich before the fries arrived. The 2 kitchens obviously weren't communicating on orders. We wanted them together not as separate courses! Shame as food was lovely but make sure you tell them you want things together.

We went in this afternoon to have a hot chocolate, knowing the place does not shut until 5. Although our drinks were lovely, the staff were closing around us, making us feel very unwelcome and unwanted. I get that it was quiet but maybe don’t make it so obvious that you don’t want customers there? Especially when you’re not meant to be closing for another hour and a half.

We like latte and lunch and pop in for coffee on a regular basis.sometimes have a jacket potato or panini if we are there lunchtimes. The coffee is very good, and 35p cheaper than the coffee shop on the other end of the quay. The food is fresh and tasty and very well priced. You can sit inside or out,and they always have the newspapers and supplements on Saturdays. There is a young chap works there, who I havent seen for a couple of weeks so Im hoping he hasnt left because he is a super little worker, and really friendly and chatty.Unfortunately the older ladies in there, think they are possibly the owners, need some customer service training.Very abrupt and unfriendly manner when serving,no greeting when you come in the door or when being served. As a local,it really puts me off.My other gripe is,altho there are sachets of sugar on the tables outside, the sugar on the tables inside are sugar lumps which are pretty unhygenic.I saw a small child one Saturday running her hands through the bowl, too many people handling, breathing ,sneezing, coughing over these for my liking.Otherwise its a good place for coffee, breakfast, light lunch

Great quayside cafe offering a variety of light meals, sandwiches, cakes, etc. At the time of our visit on a sunny Sunday lunchtime it was very busy but service was still friendly and efficient. The sandwiches were freshly prepared on granary or white bread and were very good. Well worth visiting, particularly on a Sunday when many other cafes in Bideford do not open.

It is good to support an independent business instead of the chain shops but this one let the side down badly. The request was for a cheese and onion sandwich on granary bread. Easy. The sliced bread must have been exposed to the air for some little time and had a certain hardness. The cheese was the cheapest sort of grated Cheddar and not very tasty and there was practically no onion. On being told that the sandwich was not very nice, the rather slovenly waitress said "You could have had more onion if you'd asked" - like I am going to go into a cafe and supervised how they make a sandwich. Very poor, how can they go so far wrong with making a sandwich? Not going back.

This place has wasted its potential. It could be good with the right management, but it is failing as it has poor quality coffee and tea.The standard of front of house housekeeping is dreadful. The floor seems only to be cleaned end of day, the tables are always sticky and even the seating needs a good clean - removable covers on the cushions of the few chairs which have them would help, they could then wash the tomaton sauce and other stains off!

Went in for a latte with my mother and the queue stretched throughout the length of the cafe. There seemed to be insufficient staff for the volume of customers. It took 10 minutes to place my order at the bar and was told the latte would be brought outside when made. I'd already decided to opt for a cold coke and said I would take it from the fridge there and then and drink from the tin. It took a further 15 minutes for the latte to arrive. The menu was quite good, offering a wide variety of meals but I think they are being over ambitious to try and manage the customer/menu ratio on current cafe staffing levels

Went here for an early brunch with my daughter. It looked very pleasant from the outside, situated on the quay with a nice view. Inside, the cafe was nice & clean looking. We sat in the conservatory seats & ordered our food at the counter. My bacon roll arrived first but I did not want to start it until my daughters order was served. We spotted a sandwich on the counter from where we were sat & wondered if it could be the tuna sandwich we were waiting for. After 6 minutes I called out to the assistant that we were still waiting for the sandwich & asked if the one sat on the counter in front of her could possibly be it. She said she was sorry & hadn't noticed that it had come out from the kitchen though I noted a couple of people had paid over the top of the sandwiches!! The food was Ok but a tad pricey we thought as it was quite plain fayre. Besides waiting for the food, the door was on the latch permanently which made the area pretty drafty. I got up a total of 7 times to close the door as it either blew open or was left open by customers coming & going, including the postman! It was quite uncomfortable & indeed chilly. Shame really. There was a good range of food on the menu, although there were no sandwich options for children. We ordered sandwiches (I ordered a baguette and was presented with a sub roll, which the waitress said was a baguette) and they were nice enough and the salad was nicely presented. The service was ok, but they were struggling to get hot drinks out quickly. The toilet is very small and no room to change a baby, it obviously hadn't been checked as the bin was over flowing and looked awful. We have heard that a new chef is just starting work here. Perhaps this explains our sorry excuse for a meal. For the record we have had several excellent if pricey meals at this restaurant. This meal was pricey but a million miles from excellent. There was a weird-tasting buttersquash soup oddly paired with a far from fresh hard pork pie apparently found in the freezer, a tiny square of cheese and a portion of chutney. Did they run out of bread? Apparently knives were also in short supply because we ended up sharing one between us. There was an oddly flavoured sausage roll type thing with almost raw cabbage, fried carrots in skins and a separate dish from which three lonely roast potatoes contemplated this culinary car crash - and which were the only pleasantly edible items. All this in a restaurant formerly well-regarded for its excellent home-grown vegetables. We felt ill afterwards. We noted during our visit although the gardens were quite busy with family visitors few of them chose to eat in the restaurant. We did wonder why - and now we know. Rosemoor is not a cheap day out and hard-pressed families are not going to add to the expense of visiting the gardens with a bad expensive meal. Other restaurants are available and sadly we can't consider coming back unless we see clear evidence of improvement in Tripadvisor reviews.
