Latimers in South Tyneside

Had been to Latimer’s pre-Covid. The crab soup was previously excellent, served in china bowls with all white meat and a good slug of whiskey. Not now. 🙁 Soup was served in a paper cup, it was mostly seafood stock with lots of big pieces of chopped onion?? and barely any crab. Because we ate it inside, five feet away from tables outside, we were charged 20% (VAT) more. The same excess charge was applied for incorrectly made coffee and sandwiches. I thought VAT was levied to cover the extra cost of waiter service, table cover and washing dishes etc. However all food was served in takeaway paper cups and bags 🙁 even the coffee and I had to collect all of it from the counter when it was made. The best reaction to this type of poor food and service is to not visit again.

Lovely atmosphere, dog friendly and very delightful staff. We enjoyed our lunch beside the sea, crab sandwiches! I would definitely recommend it if you’re in the area.

I think this might well be my new favourite place, we’ve drove past it for years but decided to try on a whim It’s a fantastic place that’s a seafood lovers dream. It sells pretty much everything, we bought some fresh mussels but I could have happily spent a fortune. It also has a takeaway food counter that sells the most amazing crab sandwiches, we had them with a smoked fish chowder while sat in the sun enjoying life. Portions are generous, prices are decent, service is good and the food is excellent

We have been here many times to buy seafood, always a little expensive but you pay for the quality. Unfortunately, the takeaway experience in food was lacklustre. I have read some of the other reviews, and I've seen the explanations on the difference between the "dining experience.""Several years ago to date! Latimers was the best place for a crab sandwich 100%. I'm really sorry to say this, but the takeaway model needs a review. This was my treat for fathers Day. I could have had better at a garage with a pre packed sandwich. We ordered 2x crab sandwiches at £6.95 each and a portion of chips. It came in a brown bag icy cold. Furthermore, the bread totally outweighed the filling, a slim portion of crab meat. The chips weren't cooked through at all and not a salad in sight. Please use this constructive criticism because the whole of the sea front had queues, and the spaces available in Latimers were looking like people were voting with their feet!

On a lovely sunny Saturday we stopped off at Latimer’s to see what was on offer. A little later we were feasting on Crab & Whisky soup, Smoked Fish Chowder and some marvellous sandwiches. I had prawn, my wife had crab. They were so good that we went back the next day for breakfast buns which met and exceeded our expectations.

Visited today and was very disappointed. Ordered a tea, a latte, cheese and ham pannini and a crab sandwich. All ordered and rang through till then was informed if we wanted to sit inside there would be a 20% vat charge. The reason being 'we are a takeout, not a cafe'. The rain was really heavy so why would we sit outside. And if not a cafe why have seats inside and why were we not informed about this before we ordered. Overall a very poor experience as food was just ok and served in takeaway bags and cups. So basically we paid £21 for 2 takeout sandwiches and 2 drinks. Don't think will be visiting again.

5star service and the freshest sea food ever was told there was no lobster boxes today gutted travelled so far come once a year the lady in the deli saw my disappointment and said I'll make u 1 up if u can wait a bit just wow how kind was that also had soup/ sandwich lunch the chowder outstanding thank you so much for making our travel worthwhile appreciated

Just fabulous - really good value; some choices limited, but this place is great. Fresh, tasty, really enjoyable, lovely staff and environment

Was always one of my favourite places for a coffee and a scone at the seafront but after todays visit I won’t hurry back !!! Ordered 2 Lattes , tea , bacon sandwich , cheese scone and crab sandwich.. drinks were fine but the crab sandwich was presented in a brown paper bag freezing cold and not at all enjoyable the cheese scone was presented in a paper bag pre buttered and not very fresh !! Must the bacon sandwich was nice fresh and hot but again presented in a paper bag … the cost of the above £23 certainly did not feel like value for money

The seafood looks and tastes as good in the picture. It’s a friendly location on the seafront with the most fantastic crab sandwiches on fresh bread. We were recommended it by a local and they were not wrong. It’s definitely worth a stop if you’re visiting the area.

Went specifically to buy crab meat in a pot.When got home there was so e white mat sprinkled over the top and the rest was watery brown do called meat.It was hardly eatable.Irang and they apolog8sed so they will obviously be putting things right hopefully.Fish isn't cheap now so it needs to be a hood standard.

Visited today on a cold Saturday so decided to eat inside rather than outside. We both got a crab sandwich which was on bloomer bread and was absolutely delicious. The home made lemonade was very refreshing with lots of flavour. We will be back.

The staff were friendly and helpful. They explained that it would be cheaper to share a seafood platter, rather than order two separate ones. Everything in the platter was delicious, although for my taste the smoked mackerel was a bit salty. We were able to sit outside which was pleasant.

What a wonderful shop and cafe. If you enjoy seafood, a visit here is a MUST. The seafood shop has a display of so many varieties of fresh fish and seafood. You can pick and choose a delicious selection. This is FRESH seafood, and you will notice that it makes all the difference to its taste. I see that some reviews say its a 'bit pricey' ... but I disagree, seafood has to be sold and eaten whilst it is very fresh, and without preservatives etc. The staff were really friendly and helpful, they provided me with a small bag of ice to package around my purchase's. The smoked trout and salmon was particularly delicious, but all that i bought was tremendous.

Latimer's sea food is amazing, tuna and swordfish is to die for, cafe is good , Steve and the staff are brilliant, seafood chowder something else as well as all the other home made produce, would reccomend

Beware, nothing special other than the excessive pricing. Coffee served in take away cops even when sitting in! Coffee weak once again nothing special. Two coffees £6.66 RIP off.

Been coming to latimers since I was a little girl, always loved willicks ever since I can remember! My dad used to bring me all the time, the willicks are always soooo tasty, I’ve never had a bad batch🤤

Please don’t miss Latimer’s.seafood deli. The fish is as fresh and a really is tasty. The team who work there are excellent. They so knowledgeable about the fish . There is gentleman who will fillet the fish any way the costumers request. The vast display of all seafood is all visible but hygiene is paramount and fish are protected from the public. Nothing is a trouble. I look forward to my visit there are so many other ingredients available the I get ideas of interesting meals. A big thank you

We visit Latimer's at least once a week. Find the staff always welcome us. Love the fact there cakes, sandwiches, pasties, soups, are all freshly made in the shop. There fish products are all locally caught they even smoke there own Salmon, Haddock and Cod.

I have been quite a few times normally very good but the last twice I have been when asked if I could purchase 400g tub of prawns was refused I only think it was because it was a Sunday and they are closed on a...

I ordered a sandwich to sit in as it was raining and they charged me extra , I also couldn’t believe the way they speak to there staff. All together a terrible experience, which is unfortunate as it has potential if they were nicer

Despite having a number of (very young) staff I waited 25 minutes for one cappucino. My husband wanted a decaff Americano with cream- no cream so he didn't bother. Could be - and probably is- a goldmine, but needs to up their game. Perhaps if...

I'm a massive seafood fan so i love to come here when in Seaburn. The takeaway/cafe does lovely food from crab sandwiches to sausage sandwiches etc. The deli is amazing with a huge selection of seafood. This place is a must for seafood lovers.

Visited for lunch with my wife , paid £26 fr 2 prawn sandwich’s in a brown paper bag 2 teas in a paper cup and some chowder in a paper cup ! Very disappointed, the chowder was ok nothing special and I’ve had better prawn...

Unfortunately the indoor cafe is closed at the moment but outdoor seating has been arranged as long as you can take the bracing sea air. It is simply the quality of the fish and seafood on offer that we love at this upmarket fresh fish...

It’s a shame. We used to look forward to visiting Latimers for lunch and you could sit inside or outside and you would be lucky to get a seat. However you can only sit outside now and the menu is very limited. The crab sandwiches...

We were going to Newcastle, and made a "slight" detour so we could call in at Latimer's on the way back. Crab sandwiches and smokie pasties to eat immediately, then another crab, more pasties, and kippers to take home. All now scoffed, and all fantastic!...

Latimer's delicious crab or prawn sandwiches from their take away hatch has sustained us through many a visit to the seaside over the pandemic months. We usually take our sandwiches, possibly with a mug of chunky and creamy fish chowder and always with a cup...

Best seafood in North East and fantastic service from friendly staff, always visit here when family from down south come, they can't believe how cheap it is

My wife and I visited the area for three days, and ate here from the takeout hatch every day after spotting it while driving down the coast. No regrets whatsoever, and we happily and gladly recommend this place.

We had the Lobster Box last night and it was nothing short of superb. We always get our fish from Latimer's as it is the freshest you can buy with outstanding quality. :-)

We were recommended to visit Latimers, definitely a local gem. We ordered via the hatch, and took away crab sandwiches, chowder, and the smoked fish pasty. Beautiful. The crab sandwich was on thick granary bread, and a 50-50 mix of sweet white and rich brown...

Oh my goodness these were delicious. Bought cold and enjoyed the next day. Wish I'd ordered extra!!!

Since moving to the area some 15 months ago, I've been going to this seafood shop and cafe fairly regularly, often buying crab sandwiches. However, in recent times times, the filling in the sandwiches has become less and last week, I "dismantled" our sandwiches to see exactly how much filling there was. The filling actually ended about 2cm from the crusts and the centre filling was also less.I emailed Latimers who replied:Good morning I am sorry you were not satisfied with your crab sandwich yesterday. All our sandwiches are weighed so the correct amount of crab is used consistently. I will pass your comments to our management team.I replied:You're totally missing the point.The sandwiches may be weighed but my point is that they are half filled and are nothing up to the standard that they were in times gone by.Weighed or not, they are not good.So end of a good relationship but I imagine that I will still spend £50 on one of their Plateau de Fruits de Mer next Christmas and still byu their wet fish.

Lynn was great to assist with a collection time on our order. Collected it on a Wednesday and we ate it the following night. Had a mix of Lobster platter with a few added extras. Very good quality fish, really tasty.

Best fresh fish and shellfish selection I have seen in the UK outside of London and the staff are excellent too - so friendly and helpful. Impressed by their professionalism and attention to detail. Really nice location too!

Went here for food with my husband, waited at the door for a while before been seen too, seated at the worst table just near the door so terrible draft, the table was wobbly also! We weren’t told to order at the counter, coffee was very weak and cake was very very dry, we will give this the benefit of the doubt and try again in the foreseeable future hopefully it turns out better this time!

Been here this morning for breakfast with my son we had scrambled egg on toast which was cooked fresh and was delicious staff were lovely and friendly we also called at fresh fish counter on way out and bought some smoked salmon and omg I’ve never tasted anything so delicious we asked the staff loads of questions and they were very helpful and friendly will be back

We called in for a late afternoon meal of fish and chips. Good selection of fish or sea food dishes. A little expensive for the portion size but very tasty. We opted for the naked cod, without batter, mushy peas and chunky chips. A very good choice, everything cooked fresh and served piping hot.Despite saying they offered a choice of ales etc. The choice was very poor. If you go, do not sit at the table nearest the door to the patio area, no room for people to get past, kept having to stand up to let people through.

We ordered 2 cappuccinos when they arrived they were just milky froth I did ask the waitress to replace them as they had no taste whatsoever she was happy to do so but when the replacements came they also were very weak no taste of coffee and also very pale in colour I ordered the smokie chowder sorry it was tasteless considering it was smoked fish it did have plenty of fish in it but just bland, the crab sandwich was the other order just Ok, the restaurant was very busy don’t know if that had a bearing on the quality of items served.

I like having lunch at Latimer’s. The prawn sandwich is particularly tasty, as are the chips that you can have alongside it. My friend ordered the naked fish and he said it was very tasty too. They also have a good range of cakes on offer. Nice location and setting whatever the season.

Wow! Glorious food, popped in with some friends for some lovely garlic prawns, served by a lovely lady with short red hair ( didn’t catch a name) and our food was served within 10 mins by a lovely friendly girl , ( lainey if I heard correct) couldn’t rate this place enough, just ‘brill’ definitely coming back!

Visited Latimers On a misty morning after being out with my dog, popped into latimers to warm up with a nice cup of tea and couldn’t resist a cake. Great nautical colour scheme and I love the mascot Claude the crab! Wished it was later so I could have gotten lunch because the menu looked amazing. Gabrielle was brilliant seemed to know the menu off the top of her head and even pointed out for a small price I could get my dog a cooked sausage which he was very pleased about going to be hard to walk him past the place now!

Absolutely fabulous lunch, me and some friends popped in for a bite to eat on Saturday, regardless of the chilly weather, seated, served and our food was out in just under 15 minutes and it was just glorious, Popped back today to grab some of the delicious seafood on the deli counter staff were amazing both days and have definitely swayed me to come back!

Not many people having lunch when we went. This is a surprise because Latimers is excellent value, and good quality, with friendly service. We had oysters (fresh and delicious), followed by fish en papillotte (halibut) with skinny fries. The fresh fish counter is tempting and an opportunity to stock the freezer.

Fab lunch at Latimers yesterday with my wife, we both loved our crab sandwiches, the Latimers staff were amazing and it was very quick and sufficient service, young girl on the floor was very friendly and young girl who took our order was very quick and helpful. We will definitely be back!

I love Latimer's. The food is fantastic, the staff are very nice especially Tracy the cafe manager. One thing that would make it outstanding, please start doing lobster rolls. A nice soft hoagie roll filled with lettuce and lobster in a lemon mayo. Please :) ❤️

First time here & a warm welcome from the staff but sad to say that the minuscule size of the fish pie (a small scallop shell amount which probably equates to roughly 2oz of fish) coupled with £10.25 price tag, despite being tasty does not encourage me to make a return visit.

I am very happy to say, that since my last review , the seafood is now very good but still very expensive . It is not over cooked anymore so you get the true flavour. Staff are lovely as always been . No bits of shell in the dressed crab and the Langoustines don't just taste like water , and paying that price , you want flavour . I hope that it doesn't change again though.

Popped in for a couple of coffees with my wife whilst walking the dog. Only one girl serving so service was very very slow, queue was four deep by the time my two cappuccino’s were served. Coffee tasted fine but it was barely warm, not impressed at all! At £3.25 a cup you would expect it to be HOT! Thought of complaining but that would only have added to the waiting time of the others. We won’t be back.

paid £18 for a so called half lobster ,i got a tiny piece of lobster in a shell that amounted to 2 x 2" of tough lobster,so i paid for a few chips and a bit lettuce ,was not impressed at all ,in fact it was an insult for the price ,everyone has told me how lovely this place was so i tried it,, i wont be going back total rip off

We had a very nice lunch here with family this week. We go every Saturday for lunch. The kids love the pasty!

Spent an enjoyable afternoon had crab and chips, with a pot of tea £ 24. Half an hour wait for food ( not bad). A fantastic choice of sea food, will definitely return

My first time to Sunderland visiting a friend and after a long walk on the most beautiful beach we headed to Latimer’s for lunch. I ordered the naked fish and chips which was delicious and freshly cooked, not greasy. They can cater for gluten free. Nice cakes too. Excellent, friendly and welcoming service.

So me and my partner visited at lunchtime today. It was busyish around 2pm. We waited to be seated and the lady with the wrist braces on was lovely. Told us there would be a half hour wait for food, which we didn’t mind.

We’ve been loyal customers of Latimer’s for years (both the shop and cafe), and now we live in Whitburn Village, visit two or three times a week.

The fish deli counter is lovely so we had high hopes when arrived for family lunch with my parents.

Everything looked great in the deli...a great range of fresh seafood. The menu was interesting....but then the meal arrived....a portion of cod the size of a small birds eye fish fillet....that tasted like cod in sauce...chunky oven chips and a tin of mushy peas....all for £13 ....wow!

Want to leave a five star review for this wonderful restaurant and staff. I have visited Latimer’s before but this is the first time as a family. Our little boy has additional needs and struggles with change. Due to us assuming the fish and chips were served with batter our son struggled with the change as he has limited range in what he eats due to sensory. The staff went above and beyond to support our needs and to help in offering alternatives. They were extremely busy and not once did they made us feel hurried. They were attentive and supportive, asking if everything was ok for us. I can not stress enough how they turned a difficult time into a memorable experience. As for the food, one word - FANTASTIC! I would highly recommend trying the Whiskey Crab Soup or Smoked Cod Chowder. Both soups were beautifully thick and creamy, and my husband’s naked fish and chips were cooked to perfection. Lovely, cosy atmosphere with fab views of the sea. The children loved their complimentary Top Trumps cards, learning all the facts about fish. The waitress realised it was our daughter’s birthday and surprised both children with a little chocolate cake before we left. I can not recommend enough a visit to this little gem. As a family with SEN we felt so supported and welcomed, the staff were so amazing at understanding our challenges. Thank you so much.

Visited for lunch and, having been a loyal customer to the take-away shop, found it terribly disappointing.

I went today with my parents and I was utterly shocked at the high level of service . It was amazing the staff are so helpful and polite. Beautiful lobster , prawns and seafood . I would recommend this place to everyone.my dad hasn’t been well and they were so happy to have a table ready for me and help us out . Wonderful

Beautiful location but the food was disappointing. Crab was tasteless,which I suppose isn’t the fault of the restraunteurs; the lobster at £26 was so rubbery it made my teeth squeak and the prawns in supposed garlic tasted of nothing but vinegar. Having read the response to negative reviewers it’s taken a lot of courage to be so honest!

We visited here with one set of parents a couple of years ago, so finding ourselves doing memory lane around Sunderland with the other set of parents plus a 90 year old aunt just for good measure we thought we would try it again. Well, we loved it the first time and we loved it this time. No battered fish anywhere just good ‘naked’ fish of various shapes and sizes all superbly cooked, presented and served. The staff bustled around and the whole thing was like a well oiled machine. Everything arrived, all tasted superb, and plates were licked clean. The three oldies asked for small haddocks but none were available so they ‘coped’ with adult size and there were no left overs. My wife had the cod and I had dressed crab in shell. Again all superb. It was a real northern treat with a force 9 gale outside and quite a few hardy Machams in their tee shirts not batting an eye lid. When the staff went out to serve or clear they had to almost hold on to each other but everything proceeded in top form. I wish we lived near by because adjacent to the restaurant is an amazing fish shop, but alas, I was just looking today. So, thanks all the staff and if you like fish, do go, I am sure you will be impressed!

Latimers is a specialist Seafood Restaurant in Roker Bay. After a walk to the Lighthouse, lunch here was expensive but special. We had Oysters, which were large & meaty followed by Haddock Chowder, then the Special Cooked Haddock, skin off, baked in Butter in foil, so no Breaded coating. This delivers the full flavour of the fish.

Called in for lunch with parents and children, ordered a variety of dishes, mine was Queen scollops & chips which came in a lovely light garlic butter, everyone enjoyed there food, fresh and served with a smile. The Grandparents enjoyed what they had so much they had to call in to the fresh fish shop for a selection to take home. Nice casual eating area, we got a table at 1pm quite easily.

Visited this friendly unpretentious place after being laid a bit low. Entering the place the customer is confronted by all manner of wet fish and seafood in an enticing display. This is how fresh it gets. The restaurant area is quite small but with an overspill patio looking out over the car park...not the best view but we're here for the fish and that doesn't disappoint. My halibut en papillote, chunky chips and mushy peas was beautifully cooked...moist citrony and packed with flavour. Others had mixed seafood platter, and dressed crab with dipping chips. This is good gear and represents very good value for money as a brunch to late lunch destination.Spirits suitablt lifted.... I will definitely be back!!

I was visiting a friend who lives in Sunderland and came for lunch here, having travelled up from London.

Came across this place on seafront when hungry! Had great smoked fish pasty, wife had plaice - cooked very well. Nice big pot of tea. Minor niggle - chunky chips needed more time in frier or double frying - not crispy. Other than that highly recommended.

Visited with my daughter and had two mixed seafood platters.

We love Latimer. Breakfast from 8.30 is brilliant. Loved the herring. Gluten free bread was very good. We have had fish and chips and especially naked fish and chips in the past too and loved it. The staff are very friendly and the decor spot on for a beach side seafood specialist. Remains a must when we go up to Sunderland.

We've been meaning to visit here for a long while and finally managed so glad we did. We were lucky to find a table as the cafe was very busy. Ordering and was easy and the biggest pot of tea for two I've ever seen.

Visited for lunch yesterday. Lovely location but very badly let down by the food etc. My husband and I both had naked cod meals. Soggy, tasteless fish, cold chips and poor salad. My husband got his fish meal refunded 13.95 (ridiculous). My teacup had a dirty smell to it and husband's glass smeared with mushy peas (we hope!). Bill was just short of £30 for us. Bread and butter good lol. We will not be back for food as so much better available not far away. Come on guys!!

we bought a crab salad and a cod lunch the crab had no taste and my wifes cod was very watery the salad was lettuce and gratted carrot

Wife and I have frequently enjoyed 'fish 'n chips'-style lunches, but this was a totally new experience which really raised the bar. My wife ordered haddock; self, dressed crab, both of which came with salad and my favourite chunky chips. Drinks were served during the short wait for the food - pot of tea for wife, I ordered my usual gin, this time with tonic but without ice. When the food arrived my wife said her order was "perfect". My crab was served dressed in its shell, packed with uber fresh, firm-but shredded crab meat - prepared to perfection and just the way I like it. The restaurant was pleasantly full during the whole time we were there and, on passing it again 90 minutes later, still appeared to be busy. Service was excellent; prices reflected good value for money.

Fantastic range of seafood in an idllyic location on the beach. The cafe was comfortable, with a lovely outside space which was perfect for last Sunday’s weather.

Just had a superb meal at Latimer cafe I had the Halibut with salad and mushy peas as I am trying to eat ‘healthy’ at the minute it was perfect and very tasty, highly recommended

I missed Sunderland fish quay so thought we would go lo latimers and wish I never. I asked for £5 in wight in prawns and got about 7 in the bag and a few crab sticks maby 5 and some king prawns 3 and it all came to £14.00 never again.. as the weekend after I went back to Sunderland fish quay and got 3kg of prawns for £10 and 5 packs of crab sticks 16 per pack =80 for £5.50 and 12 king prawns for £4.50......

This is a restaurant & fishmonger. Fish & chips would normally be too much for lunch but we were encouraged by the sign outside advertising ‘naked fish & skinny chips’. I chose this in the smaller appetite size along with a salad. The fish is ‘naked’ because it was baked in foil with herbs & lemon instead of fried in batter. Neatly served with the salad on a fish shaped plate. Our other choice was king prawns in garlic which was also served with a small salad. Both meals were well flavoured & ideal portions for smaller appetites. The menu has many other choices including soups & pastries. There is a verandah at the front where you can enjoy a sea view.

We called in on Bank holiday Monday and ordered cod and chips, s portion of chips and two soft drinks which can to an extortionate £22!!

Sailors breakfast and tea. Excellent as always. Breakfast well cooked and presented. Very pleasant staff always enjoy visiting.

My other half ordered two sailors breakfast and when it arrived she brought only one put it in middle of table and assumed we where sharing??? I heard him order two she just hadn’t listened but as it happens I was pleased only one came over priced cheap greasy under cooked bacon covered in white stuff lots of staff just standing taking we where only ones in and couldn’t take order lady with dark hard over fifty will not be back

Stopped by for lunch at the cafe and had very tasty sandwiches which were full to brim of fresh prawns and crab meat. The location of the cafe is right by the coast and although it wasn't the warmest day when we visited it was still nice to eat outside.

My husband and I popped in for lunch as we were passing, there was 1 other table in and the cafe was empty. There were 4 members of staff and we heard every word of their conversation, some background music would potentially help with this but we felt they were with us. The thing that was most frustrating was that we then sat with empty plates that were not cleared, and it's not like they were busy. Better customer service here would make a difference.

Took a little trip south to Latimer's seafood Deli & Cafe. Not been for four years....what maternity leave was made for....it's changed a bit inside. Cafe & fish shop now separate. Felt less spacious but definitely worth putting up with sitting cheek by jowl for this fine fruit of the sea. Ordered a sharing platter (did share this time but only because they said it would feed three). Fresh crab, crevettes, prawns, mackerel, smoked salmon, crayfish & seafood salad...delish! Had to let fishehusbande finish it as so much on platter. Kids had naked fish & chips (sounds a bit fishy but turns out it just means batterless). Theirs had very delicate taste..obvs I was only pinching a bit for sake of review!! Bought some fresh seaweed from the counter as we left...who knew it was so pricey? There was tonnes of the same stuff on the beach when we went for a stroll after our lovely lunch. Thankfully I'd paid enough to ensure the plastic bags had been freed from the stuff I bought...texture not dissimilar when eaten at home though!

This is a combined wet fish shop, and seafood restaurant. It has its own small car park, so no need for the pay 'n' display a short distance away.

Have wanted to try this place for a long time. Wish we had kept or money the best thing about my meal was the cup of tea, I had Naked fish and chips with mushy peas the fish was cooked in a type of foil with brown paper inside, the chips were frozen chunky chips not fresh potato and at £13-95 disgusting. Husband had Crab and chips ( can not comment as I do not eat shell fish Grandson had 6 prawns in garlic sauce with chips and salad. Now as my husband family had Fish and Chip shops he is very particular about his Fish and Chips we will not be back again waste of £40 -40p Another thing people were walking through the café with dogs YES if they are guide dogs but surely dogs should go in to terrace area via the side gate.

Where else could you get a delicious hot Craster kipper on brown? Wonderful taste bacon and egg too. Good coffee and cheese scones with extra specialfish toppings for breakfast. No wonder it was full but the service and friendliness were excellent.Will definitely go again.

Lovely fresh tasty food..attentive and friendly staff..naked fish and chips was amazing and crab n chips didn't disappoint either..good value for such fresh food

Arrived with a little trepidation, mainly due to the fact it is referred to as a "cafe". We ordered the "Luxury Sharing Crab Platter" , plus a couple of portions of Chunky Chips. This platter is meant for 4, but there were only 3 of us. Everything was so tasty, well presented and definitely ample for everyone ( sorry we couldn't eat it all ). This place is very unpretentious, the staff are very pleasant. I will definitely return with no trepidation next time.

Lovely little restaurant with views over Seaburn Bay. Cosy and comfortable with beautiful food and friendly staff. Has outdoor seating -especially useful for dog walkers- with cushions and blankets available, all on one level. Specialises in seafood and I can recommend the crab with chips. Batter free fish on offer. Has it's own car park and a wet fish sales shop with all kinds of sea food available.

We visited unplanned, on the way back from our daughter’s riding lesson. Haven’t been for a while and when we do visit we always vow to do it more often!

Stopped in here on a walk down the seafront for a quick bite to eat.

They squeezed us in around 2.30 on New Year’s Eve. They closed at 3.30. We got a platter for about 65 quid for 4 which was amazingly fresh and huge. Very nice staff and a lovely view. We will come here again.

I have bought fresh seafood from the Latimer's shop before and it's always quality, but this weekend decided to eat at the attached restaurant for the first time. It's a very pleasant setting, the staff are lovely and there's a great selection on the menu. I opted for crab and chips while my partner went for lobster, both meals were fresh, delicious, well presented and brought promptly. Was impressed and will be sure to return again.

Latimer's is very simple. It used to be a garage, then it became a garage that also sold fresh fish, and now it's a fish shop with a cafe attached. There's no airs or graces to it – just various types of fish and seafood served with bread and/or chips. We had the platter - heaving with crab (excellent), smoked mackerel and haddock (very good), prawns (good) and crayfish (a little dry). Have had excellent oysters there as well in the past. Great location on the clifftop.

You can’t beat fresh seafood and Latimers is the best in the area. Fresh, well presented and a great selection. I visited this shop with my wife today but took advantage of the excellent cafe. It had an comfortable interior and a nice veranda area to overlook the sea. Good unique snacks like a ‘kipper sandwich’ and nice cake and coffee. Recommend
