Wow what a lovely wee Spanish Restaurant in the heart of Edinburgh just over from The Playhouse. We could not complain about anything from the service to the food. Everyhing was top class. Well worth the money. Can't wait to go back again

Food was absolutely delicious. My wife and I shared two tapas and had the seafood paella. Every dish beautifully made. Pork cheeks were awesome and the paella was just fab. Great little place just across from the playhouse. Service was great too. No long waits for anything. Also heard waiters keeping other diners up to date with when the food will be ready. It says expect 25mins for paella but that shows it’s cooked to order and good quality. Definitely be back.

Disappointing selection of tapas on a Saturday night recently with my partner. Felt rushed by the staff too. The quality wasn't amazing and definite on the small side even for tapas portions. Many other better tapas places in the city.

Superb food in this little Spanish Tapas bar. Really friendly staff and a great ambience. The Patas Bravas were a highlight.

What a great restaurant, you could be in Madrid, Barcelona etc such is the authentic cooking. Service is also brilliant and the prices for central Edinburgh are quite incredible. Te Amo La Sal.

Enjoyed lovely pulpo and pavia. Wished the sizes were a bit bigger. Even so great Spanish food, music and staff.

I wouldn't support a place where they do not let pregnant women to use the toilet! A couple of months ago I passed by this restaurant and I really needed to use the toilet. I was 8 months pregnant so it was quite evident. When I asked them if I could use their toilet, the lady that was working there told me that toilets were available just for costumers. I told her that I really needed it and that I was pregnant (just in case she didn't notice it), and her answer was to go to the next restaurant. LA SAL, thanks for your solidarity!

Mi novio y yo estábamos de visita en Edimburgo, ambos de España, y decidimos ir allí.Probamos carrillera, alb ndigas, gambas al ajillo, pav a, pollo al ajillo. . . ¡No podíamos dejar de pedir más y más comida! ! ! productos de la más alta calidad y más sabrosos que algunos restaurantes en España.Consejo: no confíes solo en las patatas bravas y las croquetas, sino dale la oportunidad a platos más elaborados. . ¡Sabrás puro andaluz y no te arrepentirás!

Enjoyed some great tapas at LaSal, particularly the pork cheek, aubergine pasta dish and croquettes. Friendly owner. Good Covid compliance and great value. Well worth a visit

First time we have been away for a night since March- went to Lasal and had great Tapas - service, atmosphere and food were all great - really worth a visit - very clean and spacious.

Amazing tapas in a bright city centre restaurant. The portions are large and delicious. Very authentic squid and prawns brilliant potato bravas nice and spicy . Best dish Meatballs. Service excellent. Loved our lunch and our Rugby win .!!

Stopped here without a booking for some tapas before seeing show at Playhouse across road. Managed to get seated right away. Food was good and reasonably priced, with good chat from staff. You need at leat 2-3 tapas each. It’s definitely above average. While we enjoyed, probably wouldn’t return as not blown away.

Booked to eat here on final night of rugby weekend, what a find! We had an assortment of tapas just the right amount for us, 2 small starters, try the mixed iberico platter, it’s gorgeous, and 5 tapas. Accompanied by a bottle of Galician red wine. Perfect end to the day which made us forget the worst storm for a long time that was playing out beyond the door.Just one very minor comment, some of the dishes come with potatoes included so you may not want to order a separate potato dish.Another place for us to visit during autumn international weekend.

My husband and I visited here for a pre theatre meal. Very glad that we booked as although it was quiet when we arrived at 5. 30 pm, it very quickly filled up. It is in an excellent location if you are going to the Edinburgh Playhouse, which is across the road. We chose five tapas dishes, all of which were very tasty. None of the dishes was roasting hot, except the fish, but I think that Spanish food tends to be cooler than we have it. Service was extremely friendly, despite being so busy, but we got the feeling that perhaps having another member of staff would have helped as they were run off their feet! I asked twice for a pudding, but it never arrived. Still, I probably didn't need it.....

Habíamos reservado una mesa para la tarde del sábado. Tan pronto como llegamos, el dueño nos reconoció desde antes y nos sentamos de inmediato. Hay mucho para elegir, pedimos entre cinco y seis tapas para nuestro plato principal, ya que normalmente no tenemos un dulce, tuvimos patatas bravas, albóndigas, mejillas de cerdo, salchichas de chorizo, etc., todo estaba delicioso, el personal atento y muy servicial, servicio de primera clase. Recomendaría este restaurante, vale la pena una visita. Si va a la casa de juegos, esto está enfrente, pero reserve con anticipación.

A lovely warm welcome, staff were very friendly. Food served quickly and excellent quality. Staff very attentive throughout.

Tapas were good, the pork cheeks and the breaded cheese (can’t remember the actual name) were both delicious. We had ordered potatoes with alioli, however when the dishes started to arrive it seemed everything was served on potatoes including the meatballs and pork cheeks, so only negative would be that we could’ve ordered something in its place had a member of staff told us we would get them with the other dishes. Staff very friendly and nice tanquery Seville gin. We had a window seat so we could people watch too. The restaurant is beautifully done up inside and toilets immaculate. Would recommend.

Vivited twice during our stay in Edinburgh and enjoyed the food and wine both times. Service is attentive and friendly, would thoroughly recommend.

We had a company dinner and it was great, both the food and the service from Lola, very attentive and always with a smile.

Friendly welcoming staff, authentic Spanish food prepared and served to a high standard. Great paella, olives and Churros and tequila and San Miguel we will make a return visit. A great spot for playhouse visitors.

As we didn't book a table we opted to sit in the window on the bar they had there. It actually was much better as the room was crowded and tables were closer to each other. Now we had some privacy and no one next to us. Food was nice and sitting at the bar face is the tapas feeling. Nothing special though but was tasty enough. Had a house red which was really nice and got some water.

Authentic tapas, best gambas pil pil I’ve had in Scotland! Very similar to Andalusian cuisine. 5 star food. Shame about the service, the man was lovely but the young girl was in inattentive and rude.

What an amazing restaurant. Greeted by friendly staff, a bowl of massive olives on the table (free of charge). The house red wine was smooth and went well with our food (highly recommended). We ordered the king prawns, deep fried squid, garlic and parsley meatballs with patatas, 3 iberian cured meats, selection of 3 cheese with grapes, quince and bread sticks, pudding and 2 glasses of a Spanish version of tequila. The food was delicious, well prepared and beautifully presented. If you want to sample authentic Spanish tapas, then this is the place to be.

The food was fantastic, I really felt like we were back in Spain. We did practice some spanish with the waitress, she was really nice.

Had been looking for a restaurant that we thought we had seen, without success, so decided this looked like a nice venue. It was empty, nonetheless they checked to see if they had space, as obviously many book in advance. Wisely so. The black pudding was superb, so too the cheese stuffed mushrooms. Patatas Aioli was piping hot, not at all greasy, the Spanish Omelette offered as either runny centre or well done, obviously a dish cooked to order. Overall fantastic. I can imagine it is a very popular venue pre theatre, so book early to avoid disappointment !

Dinner before theatre show was pretty good! Carlos was really nice and it was nice to talk to him in Spanish. The food was fine but i expected a bit more but overall was good!

Had a wonderful meal here with my husband, with the best seat in the house at the window. Tapas were lovely. The pardon peppers and patatas bravas were especially good. The gambas pil pil were ok, spicy but lacked a bit of seasoning and flavour.

We went for dinner before heading to the playhouse. The good was fantastic. We had cava which is spanish champagne and It was beautiful. Staff was friendly and we had a great time. We Will be back !! Thanks!

Staff were attentive with friendly atmosphere but food wasn't upto much. Bland, canned and overpriced. Sauces tasted all the same. Standard tapas of an average quality. Highlight was the pork cheeks. Wine was pricey considering the quality. Drop by for a quick snack but expect tourist food. A bit disappointing.

Great dining experience. The staff was friendly and the restaurant had a good atmosphere. We ordered a few different tapas and they were all great. The paella de carne was flavorful and delicious. The perfect ending to the night was the delicious churros. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting some great Spanish food in Scotland.

Things started well but went down hill. The waiter recommended pork cheeks. I said we didn't want them but they arrived anyway with the six dishes we had ordered. When I pointed this out, we were told we could have the pork cheeks 'on the house'.

Fairly new addition to the Edinburgh tapas scene, loved the service, managed to avoid trying out my limited Spanish in response. My brother and I ordered 3 tapas each which was probably one too many, but obviously depends on your appetite. They had a very impressive looking Iberico ham ready to carve when you come in, which we forgot to try. Can recommend the Gambas Pil Pil if you can cope with some fire in the hold. Unexpected hit was the Chistorra (chorizo sausage). Would have liked to try the croquetas, different each week, but they were finished; the tortilla we went for instead was simple but well executed. Will be back.

Not much to say. We had a couple of tapas and the seafood paella. Everything superb. Great service. After finishing the meal we tried to convince the chef we were full, but he insisted on a desert on the house. It was so delicious we just had to finish that as well. Highly recommended place.

We were looked after by Alvaro, who we asked to order for us. We tasted pork cheeks, octopus, meatballs, squid and the most delicious seafood paella. Everything we tasted was superb. Thank you for your fine choices Alvaro! We will definitely return.

Booked a table for 8 online a couple of days ago for tonight. Received confirmation email confirming the reservation. Just got a phone call from restaurant (less than 3 hours before reservation) to say they've just got the booking and it's not possible to seat us. All they can do is 'apologise' - no good to us on a busy Saturday night with nowhere to eat booked. Very disappointing.

Relatively new restaurant across the road from Edinburgh Playhouse. So we were at a show at the theatre and thought we’d try out this new restaurant. We booked for 7.30 - fitted in well with theatre. So far so good. Got to door and there was a queue. Didn’t get seated till nearly 8pm. Waitress offered folk in the queue a free sangria but we don’t drink alcohol at the moment so no good for us and no alternative offered. Not enough staff. Also staff not great at English - this I’m afraid is a problem in Britain where hardly anyone speaks other languages. Service was very slow. To top it all we didn’t get the correct dishes but then got two of the same thing ! We heard lots of other customers complaining about missing dishes and the non delivery of their drinks.

Just visited La Sal and had one of the best meals I've eaten. Service was quick, friendly and efficient and the food portions were generous. The dishes were authentic Spanish and I would recommend La Sal to everyone.

First of all we booked on line for a 7:30 reservation. We were having a beer across the street and I walked over to make sure they had the reservation. They did not. I showed them my confirmation email. He shrugged it off but said that he could seat us right away, which was earlier than we would have preferred, but we accepted. We ordered the pig cheek tapas and a paella for two. The pig cheeks were outstanding. The paella was not. For two people at about $40, we got four tiny clams, two larger shrimp with heads on, a small piece of a tasteless whitefish (about ½" thick and 1"x 2"), about 4 small shrimp and about three very small pieces of calamari with a pile of rice. Come on. why so stingy! I can not recommend this restaurant for the paella. Stick with the tapas, which also seems overpriced. At least the $40 bottle of spanish wine was good.

It is located in a great area and the outside of the restaurant, along with the inside decor, was very modern and beautiful. Service was great and fast. My boyfriend and I ordered a couple different tapas and the paella de carne and it was all delicious! Our drinks and desserts were just as superb as well. Overall we had a great experience here and would definitely recommend this Spanish restaurant with delicious authentic Spanish food and even go back there again ourselves.

My wife and I love southern Spain and when we saw this restaurant in Edinburgh we had to try it and it was fantastic. We went there with the kids and grandkids and I was surprised that the grandkids (ages 12, 14 & 16) loved everything that they tried. The service was great and the food was absolutely delicious. And their beer and wine selection was quite good. The next time we're in Edinburgh we will be back.

I went for dinner with my friends and had a great time there, we shared quite a few tapas, is hard to choose a favourite tho I really enjoyed everything. I am a cheese lover and the selection of cheeses are very good, goes well with a glass of cherry. The waiter was very nice and helpful. I would definitely come back soon!

One of the best restaurants in Edinburgh. Best paella in town! The food is amazing, it's authentic Spanish food, the portions are generous and great price. It's a great place to go with friends and share tapas, that way you can try everything.

Food was crazy good, the best Spanish food I've ever tasted. Portion sizes are decent, nice friendly service and a really good atmosphere, the place was packed. Most of the staff seem Spanish which I liked and added to the authenticity. But who cares about any of that when the Paella is this good!

We were immediately greeted by the friendly staff, a very kind gentleman suggested a wine which was exquisite... once the food arrived our expectations continued to be exceeded. Absolutely everything was mouth-watering, the flavours worked together beautifully.

I went there after coming back from Spain a few days before so my expectations were very high!

We had been to la Sal on a number of different occasions when it was located in Howden Street. The food was still pretty good but just not quite as awesome as it was at the old place. One of the things we loved the most asides the food was the atmosphere of the old restaurant and while I understand the (probable) reasons for moving - more could have been made of recreating the vibe of the old place. We'll forever lament Howden Street ;-)

We walked in for a tapa and a cerveza and loved the place. The pulpo is the best. They didn’t have croquetas left so.... I guess we need to come back to try them!! AWESOME PLAce. Thanks manu- great team, great food, great location.

I was just passing by on my own and saw Lasal, I been there when it was located in Howden st., so I decided to give it a try and check the new location wich looks lovely. I asked for a table but they were fully booked and offered me to wait for a table in the bar having a drink, I been in Spain so many times and this is how they do it, standing altho they have stools, so I waited they gave me some nuts while I get an available table.

We were celebrating a friend's birthday, the staff was amazing, they had several details with my friend for her birthday, excellent tapas, good wines, do not stop trying the prawns 🦐👌🏼

My friends and I (10 of us) had a lovely dinner at Lasal on a Monday night. the restaurant was busy so there was a bit of wait for those who ordered a paella dish but the restaurant made a gesture and offered a couple of tapas to compensate for the wait. Our waiters were very good and attentive and the food was delicious. We also got offered a little liqueur at the end which was a very nice attention.

Went this last Saturday for a dinner with my girlfriend for the first time in this restaurant, after a friend of mine telling me that he had an amazing experience.

Service appalling, they kept trying to clear our plates before we finished, at one point they stood over us and watched us while we had to chomp down all our food so quickly as they said the paella was coming and they had to clear the table for it- I know it’s a small table but it was handled so poorly, and standing watching us and swooping the plate as soon as had the last bite was horrendous. Some waiters for some reason wouldn’t get drinks orders? They had to get another waiter? Waitresses abrupt. Most of the food was really bland. Wouldn’t return and wouldn’t recommend.

I went in there the last friday with my girlfriend and a couple of friends and we ordered a few tapas; tortilla (the omelette) octopus and the the pork cheek was my favourite. The service was friendly and welcoming and the food great. We will be back.

Was here very recently after the new re-opening. We were seated at our reserved table with nothing on the table, when I asked if we could please get some menus I was told to wait very abruptly by one female waitress, that set the mood for the evening. After ordering we waited 40 mins for our first dish, potatoes. Once they had arrived we waited a further 30 mins for our next two dishes (we had ordered 6 tapas) at this point I asked where the rest of our food was and if the waiter could check how long it would be, he huffed and puffed, told me the kitchen was extremely busy and came back to me with the menu and preceded to point to what I had ordered! A simple 'Yes, I'll go check' would have been suffice. During this time the rest of our food had been brought out and placed on the wrong table (behind us) and when my girlfriend questioned it, the food was taken back to the kitchen. At this point after having been in the restaurant nearly 2 hours and the couple of dishes on our table having gone cold, the waiter came over and said that our food was free, I questioned where the rest of our order was and his reply was 'oh, the kitchen is busy'.

Excelente servicio, el pulpo y las croquetas que nos recomendó Alvaro estaban exquisitas. Volveré a repetir sin lugar a dudas. Se agradece tener este tipo de comida en Edimburgo.

I visited Lasal for the first time after it reopened at Union Place and was extremely disappointed with the whole experience.

My husband and I popped in spontaneously on Saturday night and were delighted to get a table. The tapas was delicious, lots of choice and all freshly cooked. The ambiance is lovely and the staff are outstanding. We were served by Alvano and Valeno but of whom were friendly, attentive and welcoming. This is definately going to become one of our local haunts!

No es fácil encontrar un trocito de España cuando estas fuera, el local es muy acogedor y la atención recibida magnífica, sobre todo Álvaro, además del magnífico trato de nuestra una enorme profesionalidad. Volvemos seguro antes de nuestro regreso.

Spanish tapas well done, nicely done with good management. Good range of food and fresh paella (if ordered for two) and a decent wine list for the type of food done. Clean and fresh.

This restaurant was previously located in Howden Street in the Southside area of Edinburgh - postcode EH8 9HL. They also had a Flamenco studio attached and fun nights were had.

I really had a good time, nice staff, and the food simple and really nice. All the environment was so familiar, I feel as at home. I feel really comfortable there. I will go many times as soon as I can and I will try to go with friends and family again.

This is a gem of a restaurant. A cosy dining experience where you feel welcomed, invited and unpressured. The food was fabulous, as authentic as if we'd been whisked over to Spain with lots of flavour, nice portion sizes and presentation. The service was also excellent and it's a good location for pre theatre/cinema dining. We will definitely be returning.

It’s the best spanish food I have eaten in my life. Nice stuff, guys were really kind and helpful. Everything was delicious!!!

Used to come here for lunch often as menu was good value. Last night made a quick tapas stop before heading home with my family. Meal was really poor, portions tiny. Fabada beans were undercooked. Ordered a glass of wine tasted like the bottle had been opened for days, sent it back. But what really sent me over the edge was the "Huevos rotos con jamon de bellota (stands for acorn-fed ham)". Took 25 minutes to arrive, and they have the cheek to charge 10 pounds for one fried egg over a handful of potatoes and lidl quality ham trimmings. My wife did not want me to complaint again after having done so already for the wine, but this was a joke and I'm sad they con customers into thinking they are buying quality food. Shame

What a great little restaurant. Just off the beaten track but what awaits you is a delightful place to relax and enjoy authentic Spanish food served by a great team. Wine list is also full of nice surprises. We will return.

bad food, certainly if you are Spanish and from Galicia I would never recommend to go there. Poor standards and dirty, I saw a mop in the corridor when we were leaving and my shoe hit a spoon. Dirty and depressing,

La comida fue excelente, pero una hora y 5 minutos después de que nos sentamos nos acercaron para que nos dijeran que solo teníamos la mesa por otros 25 minutos. Y tendríamos que irnos entonces. Ni siquiera habíamos terminado nuestro plato principal en ese momento. Arruinó toda nuestra experiencia. Nunca he conocido un restaurante para dar 1 hora para ordenar comer y terminar la comida. Nos sirvieron la comida 45 minutos antes de recibir esta información.

Lovely staff and service, only thing set up like a greasy spoon cafe and seating very cramped.We were given a table initially next to the kitchen, then moved to a more comfortable table. Prices absolutely extortionate and not justified. Enjoyed the meal but prices certainly don't reflect the quality

I been there a couple of times and is never disappointing, I had paella and I must say is one of the best a have tried in a while, We also order corquetas it was nicely crunchy with a rich cream inside very recommended also an aubergine cake, deep fried peppers and salad to share, they have good vegetarian options as well. Everything was really good and perfectly cooked.

First visit, and it did not disappoint. Nice welcome and a lovely relaxed feel about the place. It’s not a chain and that’s very evident from the staff through to the selection of dishes and tapas on the menu.
