After having a quick look in a few Windows we chose the cafe Casablanca.... we bought a bottle of wine from the off licence 30 yards down the road (there are four or five within a hundred yards either way) and went in.Friendly and knowledgeable waitress with very good English (not sure if she is a different one from the other review I read).Food excellent tasty and reasonably priced with good portions. To be fair it wasn't busy and although we got our starter quickly we did wait a short while for our main... this wasn't a problem as we were chatting but I can see that if every table was full this could be an issue.I would visit again and would recommend to anyone

I don't know whether this is authentic cuisine or not, but the food is very tasty and reminds home made. Although we heard the microwave sounds, we would not expect a tagine dish to be prepared from scratch since they took our order (after all microwaving the food is a common practice everywhere; the difference is that you cannot actually hear it!). Prices are low, portions are good and the environment cozy. Would recommend it of a casual lunch.

We've eaten here a couple of times and had great food both times. Just like the food we ate in Morocco. Big portions, freshly prepared and tasty. Mixed starter is huge and tasty. The tagines and couscous are great. The baklava is beautiful. It's a bit scruffy but that reminds me of Morocco too and it feels like a neighbourhood place where you can relax and have a good time. BYOB too which makes it even better value.

We had dinner there on Saturday 28th September. We could not get a table anywhere else and found ourselves there by accident. The food was OK but nothing to write home about. Pitta bread seemed to come straight from Tesco. Our starter (which we shared) arrived relatively quickly but we waited for about an hour for our mains by which time we were so hungry that we considered eating the belly dancer. The poor waitress could not cope on her own and kept apologising to us which became a little embarrassing. There was only one guy cooking in the kitchen which caused the delay. They definitely need at least one more chef!

Small eatery/nothing fancy but don't bother on a Saturday night if you haven't booked (turning people away) very busy from early on - which is always a good sign. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Food freshly prepared, tasty and very good value. Only one waitress - who was delightful + very busy. Other plus points were BYOB (no corkage) and no time limit on table.

I went here as part of a group of friends and though the food we all was ace the waitering and the lack of staff was inadequate. There are many tables in this restaurant therefore having only two members of staff, one being the cook and the other, a girl who didn't seem to know her responsibilities as a waitress because she was not at all vigilant to see when we were ready to eat and if we wanted any drinks. When I walked in she only give me a glass and didn't actually tell me that it is allowed to just bring a bottle, that they didn't sell any beverages. When we all wanted water I asked for a jug for us which they do not supply, instead gave glasses of water. The water was not cold and no ice was provided with it. The girl does not speak good English at all and we had to order our main course on their time limit so they could close their kitchen for 9.30! Which I find strange if it's considered a restaurant

I don't get how people can not recognize a re heated microwave meal from a fresh one, because this is what you get in this restaurant, where the owner seems to be more interested to check his phone while waiting your food to be burnt and dried in the microwave.....I know north african food, I have plenty of moroccan friends and my family is tunisian, but believe me, other than having the proper food written in the menu, you won't have anything else. The smoothie though was very good (made fresh from the waitress). The restaurant itself is nice, good feeling, very cozy, but other than that I'm afraid........RUN AWAY! It's a pity because in Glasgow we don't have any moroccan restaurant and this one seems to be the only one in Edinburgh....or at least the best scored in tripadvisor..........but really really NO WAY we are going back. We visited the restaurant on a sunday lunch time, we were the only table (at 1pm), then another couple of tables arrived....

I spent a relaxed couple of hours here with a friend, sharing a bottle of wine (byo no corkage) and some very tasty food. We didn't fancy anything on the mains menu which is fairly limited in vegetarian options, so we got two starters each and shared them, tapas style. We both loved the spinach and ricotta in filo pastry, it was delicious. The home made humous and falafel were also excellent, as was the aubergine dip (I forget the name). The starters menu is more inspiring than the main course menu so I'd recommend doing the same, we were worried that it wouldn't be enough but we both felt very satisfied, and only spent £10 each. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, as is the service. Personally I find going to this sort of place a far more enjoyable experience than going to the more upmarket and overpriced restaurants down the road on the Shore. And I have just returned from holiday in Morocco so it was a nice way to reminisce. I look forward to returning.

We discovered this amazingly chilled restaurant back in January and it's been a favourite ever since. The tagines -lamb and chicken are the most authentic I've tasted this side of Marrakesh and the baklava and Moroccan coffee are perfect to finish with..Khalid and his staff always make everyone very welcome. It may look a bit "studenty" from outside, but don't let that put you off -once inside you will completely relax and just enjoy the food, the service and the atmosphere. Perfect for a romantic dinner or with friends. There is a BYOB policy which makes it great value and also belly dancing entertainment on Saturday nights...we will be back, inshallah..

We ended up in here after a waiter at a tiny veggie place up the road dismissed us quite rudely because we hadn't booked - we reckon he did us a favour because we had a fantastic, tasty and informal meal here and will definitely go back next time we are in Edinburgh. Cafe C has a bit of split personality from the outside - it's hard to tell whether it's a takeaway, a cafe, a restaurant or what - all the lettering on the windows was a bit off-putting, and all you can see through the door is the takeaway counter, which isn't the most attractive part of the place. But the inexpensive Morrocan menu tempted us, so we headed across the road to pick up a bottle of wine (as others have said, it's BYOB) before settling in. The staff were very friendly, with helpful food recommendations, and we were served quickly. We shared a mixed veggie platter for a starter, and blimey, it was great. For mains, husby had a tagine-type stew and I had vegetables in sauce on couscous - both absolutely terrific. We virtually had the place to ourselves, despite several passers-by peering in - I felt like running out and dragging them in because this place really deserves to be packed out. Cafe C left me wanting to pull back their curtains a bit and remove that darned lettering on the windows so people could see inside a bit better - it's a quite groovy and atmospheric interior (apart from that counter...) and that's not the impression you get from the street. Definitely a 9/10 meal, well-priced, and absolutely up for a return visit on our next trip.

The Casablanca looks a bit "studenty" at first glance, but the interesting variety on the menu persuaded us to give it a go. There's planty of choice for vegetarians and it's "bring your own bottle" so the cost of drinks is no problem - there's a supermarket across the road. The food was excellent with very friendly service. Top value for money.

Eating out alone is not always comfortable. I am a regular lone diner here and always receive a warm welcome. I particularly like the vegetarian options (though I'm not vegetarian) as the Moroccan cuisine has a wonderful range of options. The food is all freshly prepared, so you need to be ready to sit back and relax over a pot of mint tea. You are also welcome to bring your own bottle as no wine is served. The decor is very comfy and gives the feel of being in Morocco. On a rainy day it is a great place to stop and eat while day dreaming that you have just stepped in from the hot sun.

Cute little place at the bottom of the walk. Really friendly owner, quirky cool decor with a welcoming vibe. They get their baklawa fresh from a fella in Fife that is the best I've eaten in Scotland and compares very well to the offerings on Edgeware Road. Slighty erratic opening hours and when the food runs out the owner closes up and goes home. Get in early for light fluffy couscous with harissa, delicious tagines and coffee and baklawa.

We were walking into the 'Burgh from Leith en route to the Fringe Festival and popped into this café partly because we think we visited 2 years ago, when we think it was under different management. It was just coming up to lunch time, had a couple of Moroccan-looking fellas looking relaxed and sipping tea to one side and a Moroccan looking guy behind the counter. Pretty lamps all over and all for sale, BYOB, Arabic newspapers available to read so obviously catering to a mixed client group. We grabbed a seat in the ethnic-y décor and ordered a couple of drinks and a snack. My harisa soup and a roll was spicy and tasty, john's wrap looked pleasant and warranted a thumbs up. What was great and boosted my rating was the fab tasty drinks! I had the best hot chocolate I've had in years, made with really piping steamed milk and heated with the chocolate already added so it's really scrummy, and John ordered the smoothie drink with banana fig and nuts: it was so lovely that we're trying to duplicate it now we're home. Overall, it was a good, practical experience but the drinks were great. Thanks.

The food served at this new, small Moroccan restaurant is excellent and very good value for money. My wife and I both had a Tagine based dish after sharing the Casablanca Salad as a starter, with Baclava for dessert. My Tagine Marrakshi with Couscous was excellent; I will certainly order this again. The restaurant/cafe is clearly visible with its green and yellow sign, is open daily and is situated opposite Pilrig St Paul's Parish Church in Leith Walk - many buses stop nearby. Decorated with traditional Moroccan lamps and other artefacts (even a Moroccan tee shirt adorning a wall and Moroccan and Scottish flags on the ceiling!) The service is good. The only minor criticism is that we had to ask for clean wine glasses. Alcohol is not served, but BYOB is fine. Overall, a very good experience in a basic but fun and attractive cafe/restaurant; I will certainly be back.
