Cafe Vigo Corstorphine in Edinburgh, City of

I visit Edinburgh a few times a year, and whenever possible, I breakfast at Cafe Vigo in Corstorphine. Although it's usually busy, staff are always pleasant and helpful. The food is freshly cooked and very good.

It was a very crowded despite weekday but egg Benedict was delicious. I wish the egg was oozy rather than hard.

Food is average. Service and atmosphere is fine. But the pricing is extortionate! I was charged £19 for a small veggie burger (no fries), a side of scrambled egg for my toddler (no toast) and a bottle of orange juice. This is exactly what I ordered and wanted but that price for this food is just ridiculous. It seems they charged me for a full eggs on toast breakfast when all I ordered and received was a small side of scrambled egg. I won't be going back because of this. I felt robbed.

Great coffee and morning roll to take away, good service, very friendly staff. The roll was generous and prices are reasonable.

While sitting having a meal, a disabled man came in to the cafe, there were very few seats, he asked a "lady" who was sitting at a 2 seat table by herself, if he could sit down, she was rude to him , said no. A waitress came up to him and asked him to go out and sit at an outside table, where the weather was very cold, she then brought him a coffee outside. Fancy forcing an old disabled man to sit outside. Clearly the "lady" , with her designer bag and hangups, didn't want to be associated with the man. Had it not been for the fact that I had already started eating my meal, I would have walked out. By the way, the food is good and the prices are upmarket but the staffs treatment of the man was despicable. I would never go back, they don't deserve my custom or anyone elses.

High quality flat white & very nice carrot cake - a seriously generous slice with extra whipped cream! It’s got to beat Costa (opposite side of the road). Service with a smile,& comfy seats too. Only minor quibble is it’s fairly pricey (£7.50) but I guess that’s reflected in the quality fayre…

This was to date my worst visit to vigos St johns Rd. I waited in an almost empty cafe to stand and get served then man almost charged me for someone's order .on explain ing I'd just came in he handed me a menu .I waited 20 mins still in a very quiet cafe to be served! Food came from take away next door 30 mins later ! Shocking. 3 girls came in took a seat got a menue sat for ages chose foods then were told to leave as cafe was closing ! I put my fork down payed and left NEVER AGAIN

Fast & friendly service, calm and relaxed atmosphere, delicious coffee & food with nice portions. My family thoroughly enjoyed our brunch here. Would recommend.

Deceptive little place, not quite what you'd maybe expect from their website but excellent service, friendly staff, and great food.

Absolutely amazing food! Something on the menu for everyone, including Scottish staples like black pudding. We had a dish with that and eggs Benedict and WOW absolutely amazing. Their drinks and desserts are top notch too. You NEED to check this place out!

Very nice and cozy little place. Service was good, food was amazing. We had Scottish breakfast, one traditional and one vegetarian. Everything was perfect, but the tables were a bit dirty and the server used a dirty tray to bring our cutlery. Other than that, it was a great experience and I would recommend the breakfast.

Vigo has become a local institution with great quality food, fantastic coffee and good value and service for locals and visitors alike.

Excellent cafe, located in a lovely suburban area, with plenty of free parking nearby on the side streets (during my visit, I noticed that the cafe is also dog-friendly, and welcomes families with babies/young children, too). The staff were very polite, friendly, and efficient at clearing tables as they became available. Also, the food is cooked fresh to order; it was absolutely wonderful! My friend and I were very hungry, which is most fortunate, as we ordered 2 panini (they come with a side salad, as well as chips), and we were both impressed by the portion sizes. The panini were so large that they were cut into three sections, rather than the usual two. They were also incredibly full of the fillings we'd chosen, the salad was fresh, and the chips were hot and delicious. I've lived on this side of Edinburgh most of my life, yet I didn't know about Cafe Vigo until today. I'll absolutely be back in to visit again, as their cakes looked very tasty (but we were both too full from the generous lunch portions to be able to manage cake...which isn't a complaint, of course!) Thanks again, Cafe Vigo, and I'll see you again soon.

First time here recommendation by a friend. Had full Scottish breakfast it was delicious and the oatmilk latte was one of best I have tasted.

Come here if you want to be repeated asked if you want to order anything - not for good service but because to stay, you need to constantly be ordering. You'll get a dumbfounded 'just water?' when you politely decline. What's wrong with needing a glass of water? Or be prepared for them to ignore your request because it's not good enough and you'll have to ask again because you're desperately parched (which happened a previous time with the same server.. which now makes sense). What's memorable is the 'look' (internal scowl) and lingering 'ok..' with shifty eyes when I don't rack up my order. Sorry, but not everyone can or wants to spend so much. And people come for different reasons. I have come a handful of times and while there's one nice server (apologies to you - I appreciate your warm smile and indiscriminate kindness on the other occasions like letting me sit at a comfier bigger table when another server - maybe a co-owner or something had the same attitude another day and was quite directive in restricting where I sat even though it was empty at the time.. should bigger groups come, fair enough but you could be nicer about it or swap tables should that occur) and OK food - the food seems overpriced and the approach of the rest of the them absolutely ruins the experience.. treated like just another number. I made the mistake of working from here one day (not even a whole day but more than a couple hours granted) and although I ordered a drink and later, food - I was approached as I was packing up and no other customers in earshot and told that even though it *wasn't* busy, it wasn't acceptable for me to stay so long and no other customers do that. I'm very conscientious and had actually made a point of keeping an eye on traffic going into the café with a view to vacate if others were waiting - but there was always a few tables available even at the busiest time, which is why it's even more offensive to basically tell me I'm wasting space and preventing other customers from coming. If anything, a busy café is like free advertising.. people WANT to come to a place that's popular and that allows them a comfortable space to have meetings, work or socialise without feeling rushed or risk being treated coldly should you overstay your welcome. Although I love supporting local businesses, customer service like this stinks and is why small businesses lose customers to the likes of Costa and Starbucks. I regret tipping - Café Vigo didn't deserve it, after all. Their only saving grace is the nice female server who probably would be more in place and valued elsewhere. I won't be returning nor recommending..

Just been for full Scottish breakfast at this place , for the first time. Excellent breakfast, also had a pot of tea for two. Nothing fancy inside, but would definitely go back for another meal or coffee. Cake's looked amazing, will have to try next time.

Found this restaurant by chance and were pleasantly surprised by the great food, coffee ( especially my CHAI LATTE ), and friendly staff. Definitely stop in as we went back a second time in our 3 day stay.

Excellent vegan breakfast. Vegetable sausage, mushrooms with tomatoes and rocket, guac, beans, potato scone, hash browns and toast. Fast and pleasant service. Lots of good options for everyone. Will be back

Hadn't been here for a while after previously being a fairly regular visitor. I am disappointed to say it didn't meet the same quality standards as before, on this recent visit. The biscoff slice was completely tasteless and the coffee overpriced (£3.40) for the location. That's city centre, artisan coffee shop prices, not out in the 'burbs cafes. They used to be well know for much more affordable coffees. They've also taken away their cool chairs and tables from outside that were very 'European brasserie' looking - and replaced them with standard benches, not a good move, in my opinion.

Me and my husband had an amazing breakfast here - the Turkish breakfast was huge and the food was amazing. Service was great also, and considering the prices of most places nowadays we thought it was very reasonable. Will definitely be back 👍

Great little Café. Coffee and hot chocolate both good, had pancakes with bacon which was excellent. (Got 6 pancakes!). Highly recommend.

Love this cafe but the sauce bottles are always glunky and gross. Will you please, please, please clean the bottles every day. They really are a turn off. Thank you 😬

So many choices so it's difficult to pick something to eat. On this occasion I opted for a fruit scone and a latte. Scone was huge! Warm and tasty, served with butter and jam. Latte was hot so didn't have to drink it down quickly. Looking forward to my next visit. I might try an omelette as they looked amazing too.

Nice food, good service, unfortunately the argostik not so good, a lot of noise... but a full house and you understand that, the food is super good

Honestly amazing cafe. What you get for your money rivals any cafe I've ever been to. I had the beetroot salad and chips, and once I saw the salad arriving on our table, I was instantly impressed. I'd expect to pay for the a minimum of £12 for a salad like that in any other place, and this was less than £8. Astonishing! Generous portions, fantastic plating and food presentation, fast and friendly service, and fantastic prices. The inside is warm and inviting, and it's tastefully decorated. Highly recommend!

Called in for a late morning breakfast. Really enjoyed it. So good to find a good independent cafe. Will defo go back again.

The cafe was very busy and noisy at 12 noon, however we waited over half an hour for 2 coffees and a slice of cake. This would have taken all of 10 minutes to prepare from behind the counter, and we could have consumed it to make space for lunch diners. But it seems we waited for hot meals (from the kitchen) that had been ordered before us. We were about to leave when we were told the coffees were on their way. Disappointing visit.

Now i know why this place is always busy, the food we had was excellent and the staff were very attentive, top marks all round and good value for your pound, we will be back .

My mum and I came here for breakfast, I opted for the Mediterranean and my mum had the smoked salmon bagel. Both dishes were outstanding and super tasty and fresh. The service was great too. A lot of choice on the menu so we will definitely come back for lunch one day. We took some cheesecakes away for later on too!

Ordered avocado toast and pancakes with nutella, came with very little nutella and the toast was soggy, avocado was also clearly left out for quite a while.

Chose this as preferable to the Holiday Inn. Breakfast is an easy thing to get wrong. Lots of elements -sausage, bacon, french toast,eggs, coffee, it's very rare to get everything right, but they did. Busy place but service was excellent. Went in grumpy, came out full and happy. Recommended!

You know when you order a beetroot and goats cheese salad and you get some leaves, a few cubes of beetroot and a token sprinkling of goats cheese? Well, this was certainly not that! AMPLE portions - surprisingly big with home made rustic bread and full to the brim of goodness, fresh ingredients and made with care. My friend had the omelette and it too was hearty and a large portion as well as being very tasty. We didn’t have room for cakes but they looked delightful! Nice cafe and wasn’t overcrowded despite being a lovely Sunday afternoon. Can’t wait to visit again!

Was in the west end of Edinburgh one Saturday morning and having skipped on breakfast, thought I would find a little cafe and grab a roll and a coffee for on the go. Cafe Vigo is situated right on the main road through the Corstorphine Area, so was ideal place for what I needed. For 11am on a Saturday morning it was packed both inside and out. Ordered the breakfast wrap and a coffee to go, and waited outside while it was prepared. Order was ready in no time and was VERY tasty! Staff are very friendly and would have no problem visiting here again if in the area.

Full scottish breakfast is highly recommended. Good coffee too. Dogs welcome: they even gave her a little dog treat. Highly recommended.

We received a warm welcome and were able to bring our 15 month old Golden Retriever puppy into the cafe. We enjoyed hot drinks and tasty chocolate brownies. Highly recommended

Great food! But we’ve found a thick hair in the food we had, hence that’s why the 3/5 stars. Probably will go back for the great food.

Did an online order for collection - a croque madam with a side of chips. I collected on time and given a large box assuming everything was inside. I got home to find there were no chips. I phoned the cafe and if I wanted them I would need to go and collect them - as delivery wasn’t an option. I said no as I wasn’t going to drive down again (traffic was busy). I asked for a refund but told I would need to pop in as she didn’t have my card details. I repeated that I wasn’t going down again. We seemed to go round in circles. I asked to speak to the manager and the person I was talking to was the manager- which surprised me! Eventually she offered to take my card details over the phone so I could be reimbursed. Why this wasn’t offered earlier in the conversation I don’t know! I know it was just for some chips but it was the principle! The more annoying thing was her saying ‘give me just a minute’ every other second- she said it often in the cafe and when I was on the phone to her. I just think she’s out of her depth. Not sure how long she has been there she’s certainly not someone I’ve seen before. On the plus side the food was very good but the experience has put me off going there again, even though we supported them through the pandemic having had numerous take aways then and now, and eaten in. Sorry Cafe Vigo not impressed with the customer service. Food was great though.

We were staying next door so extremely convenient. Great work, everyone, what a find !

My grandad and I come to cafe Vigo every week for either breakfast or lunch and can never fault the food. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive and the food is gorgeous. Freshly homemade smoothies and lovely coffees. Couldn’t recommend it more! The Croque monsieur is a personal fave.

Lovely fresh food, served with a smile. A group of 5 of us visited last Sunday, we all got various wraps which were served with hot tasty chips and a fresh salad. Reasonably priced, service was good, staff were pleasant and friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Successfully visited cafe Vigo today. . Enjoyed toasties with salad and chips and excellent pot of tea. Was pleased to finally get in there as it is always busy. Menu full of choices and home baking on offer too.

We had time to kill before Edinburgh zoo opened. 10 minute walk to kind this cafe by chance. Delicious coffee and cake, but we're envious of those having breakfast (we'd already had ours).

Loved it here. Ate here three days in a row for breakfast. The vegi breakfast & Turkish breakfast were so good. The pancakes were the best pancakes I've ever had. So light and fluffy and tasty. Would fully recommend. The staff were attentive and helpful and the food came really quickly.

Brilliantly comfy, cozy and welcoming. Friendly staff, and the food is truly royal, as per the photo. Good value for money, too.
