We went for afternoon tea which was an anniversary gift. Very nice surroundings in the drawing room but we were quite disappointed with the food and the service. The scones were delicious but we felt the bread on the sandwiches could have been thinner. The cake selection was basically tray bakes cut into portions. There were no fancy individual cakes and the cream for the scones was not very pleasant. The waitress did not explain what all the various sandwiches and cakes were and didn’t ask how everything was and disappeared before we had finished so we had to find our own box to put the excess food in and the go down to reception to hand in our voucher. Then because we had asked for another tea and coffee, we were charged for it. All other places have given free refills. We have certainly had better afternoon teas in other venues.

The restaurant was very quiet and so lacked atmosphere. We were seated in a small alcove - my husband had a view of a filthy window. Staff were attentive but at times we felt rushed - probably as the place was just too quiet. The menu choice was good and the food quality, especially on the starter and main course was excellent, but it does not represent good value for money. We came for a special occasion. While a decorated plate with a couple of complementary chocolates appeared at the end for us to enjoy, and were welcome, we left feeling slightly disappointed. The additional service charge on top of the cost of the dinner was very steep.

We spent a night at Langley castle for our wedding anniversary in the Cadwallader room. The room was lovely very clean and the bed was comfortable. The drawing room was warm and inviting. The staff were exceptional, Chloe served us our evening meal and breakfast then after breakfast she was our guide for the complementary battlements tour. She was enthusiastic and clearly knew the history of the castle. At 19 years old she is doing an amazing job. She has lovely manners and is friendly and welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. The food was amazing! I have not got a single negative comment to make. We both feel very relaxed after our stay and we are already planning to go back.

Went for afternoon tea to mark a 70th birthday and had such an amazing time! The staff were very friendly, quick and helpful especially when we brought up an allergy within the party, the waitress was very quick to help us choose an alternative which we were extremely thankful for. The food came quickly and it was presented amazingly. This was the 2nd time we have been for afternoon tea and this time was even better than the first time! We will definitely be returning soon!!

We are a family of Americans and Italians who took our 6-year-old twins for their first experience of an English tea. Even though we had no reservation and a wedding was going on at the time, the staff could not have been more welcoming, volunteering to show us around the castle and letting us choose our preferred spot from several rooms. We chose the conservatory for the view of the peacocks. We tried several versions of the tea: the gentleman's, the all-sweets, the regular tea and the children's tea. All were yummy and plentiful. Service was good. All in all we had a lovely time.

A family of four was seated in the reading room which the seating was inadequate for meal service. You can not expect people to eat meals sitting on a sofa and leaning over a very low table!. Order soap for starters. eventually the soap arrived but had to wait a further 5 minutes for cold bread to arrive, which meant the soup was then cold. The main meal arrived but no additional sauces offered. Fish and chips without vinegar? The portion size of the soap was terrible however that and the remaining food was not bad to the taste. Just not the type of service expected from a place like this and therefore would not return.

This was a meal for my wife's birthday and the only menu available is a £49.95 Table d'Hote with supplements. We enjoyed an excellent Cauliflower Cheese Veloute as an amuse bouche and we would love to have see this as a starter as it was that good. For starters we had the pigeon breast and pork terrine which were both very good and perfectly presented. For main my wife had a very good halibut with pea and crab fishcake whilst I ordered a medium rare Rib-eye at a £9 supplement. It came with a sweet pickle like substance which was a bit strange and not pleasant but the biggest problem was the steak was well-done. It was sent back and just as my wife finished her main the replacement arrived which I still wanted as I was hungry but as I tried to cut into it it was full of sinew and very rare. So we decided to give in after two attempts at cooking a steak . For desserts my blackberry panacotta with yogurt ice-cream which was very nice but my wife's pineapple tarte tatin was spoilt as the pastry was very over cooked and tough to eat. We felt very sorry for the serving staff as they were apologetic and gave us our wine free but as you can imagine the night was spoilt by the standard of the food.

My husband and I booked afternoon tea for our wedding anniversary. The setting was impressive and luxurious. We chose the Gentleman's selection and it was delicious. The haggis bites were deliciously different. The cheese scones were to die for and we discovered the chef's secret (but dare not reveal it). I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone wanting an afternoon of excellent food served by cheerful and attentive staff.

We ate in the restaurant on the evening of our one night stay. They mixed up out reservation time which resulted in us waiting an hour in the Drawing Room before being brought down to the Dining Room but after that everything was great - execllent food throughout all courses, especially the pork starter, lamb main and chocolate desert. Friendly, helpful service too .

The castle and surrounding buildings look amazing especially on a warm sunny day Have the 3 course menu in the main area of the castle, the service was excellent and all the staff following the covid guidance. The meal has to be pre ordered which was ok, but I tend to like to read the menu just before the meal really ! The food was excellent with all our table enjoying the meal, the only reason I haven’t given it five stars is I don’t like sweet corn and my meal came with it. Which was a shame as the cod was prefect otherwise It is expensive but very nice I will go back again.

There was some confusion over our booking at first but this was a minor hiccup. We were the first in the Restaurant on a Sunday evening and to start with the service was quite poor. We had to request drinks, never received any bread but once the place started to fill things did improve. You could not fault the food and it is a brave decision to offer Beef Wellington to a large dining room but it was a very good standard. The meat was perfectly cooked, it was well seasoned and very tasty with the pastry the only slight let down. Overall it was a very good meal and would recommend to eat here.

The food was incredible the setting was fantastic the history of the castle was unbelievable I could not have asked for anything better and if I had of the staff there would of probably found it for us. I must mention Aidan who went out of his way to do a battlement tour with us. His knowledge of the castle was absolutely outstanding and not to be missed. Ate here when staying at the hotel and had the set menu at £44.95 a head. It is pricey but was a treat and didn't disappoint! Pre-dinner drinks are taken in the drawing room, where menus are given out and orders taken before you are escorted down to your table. An 'amuse bouche' is served before your starter - was very tasty. We had the beetroot carpaccio and the ravioli, followed by the beef and the loin of pork. All wonderfully presented and delicious. Desserts were just as tasty - we shared the creme brûlée and a wonderful rhubarb medley. Fine wine also served. They also have a gueridon trolley and we saw crepe suzettes being prepared at another table. It's old style and formal but relaxed (no dinner jackets required!) and excellent service. Recommend for a treat!

This is a set price for three courses, not clear if you could reduce the number of courses. There is a reasonable but not massive selection. We found the food to be excellent, well presented and good blend of flavours. Note though that the portions are not large, which suits us perfectly but perhaps not all. The service was friendly and attentive. The dining room has atmosphere with the thick walls, a couple of tables set in the walls, high cielings etc,. We called in on our way back from Newcastle. Had lunch in drawing room/ lounge. The waitress was lovely talked to us about the place let us look around.its late 70s since we were last there on a medieval banquet. We ordered onglet steak and fries. That was exactly what we got. Small unappetising piece of “flesh” just warm chewy on a greasy pot plate and a small very small basket of fries. That was it !!it was strange and at over £14 a rip off. If it had a small salad garnish then it would have not been such a shock. We ate it as we were hungry but would probably not return. I did mention to staff at till on way out he said he would look into it. Beautiful place though. Promises a lot but leaves you feeling cheated.

We had both the formal dinner and the relaxed dining both of which were excellent. The relaxed dining menu allows you to eat by the fire in the drawing room or in the beautiful restaurant. The menus are not extensive but offer options to suit most tastes at a very fair price. The game suet pudding and sticky toffee pudding were particularly good and the drinks menu and gin options extensive. We had a lovely drive along the A69 today from Corbridge where we are staying on holiday. The Tyne Valley absolutely glowed in all its autumnal beauty. We had chosen Langley Castle for Sunday lunch because it looked interesting - and it was an excellent decision. Langley is the real thing - a 14th C fortified castle, renovated by the Victorians and standing in pretty grounds. Now a hotel, its staff were all very welcoming, and we really enjoyed our pre-lunch drink in the impressive drawing-room (where we also sat comfortably later on, snuggled into one of the big sofas to have our coffee) and our food in the elegant dining-room. This really was one of the best Sunday lunches that I have ever had and the chef had tried to provide something different for starters and dessert just to make it more fun. The vegetables in particular, which usually come a poor third after the meat and the Yorkshire pudding, were absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. Well done, the kitchen staff!

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad - it just was not at Michelin Star level that the atmosphere was trying to achieve. So we felt disappointed at the value for money that we received. The bread that was offered was not appetizing. We really needed a break and choose Langley Castle as it was not too far away and had a superb offer on, 2 nights with 1 dinner and 1 cream tea.We stayed in the castle view annex and were kindly upgraded by the lovely Deanne. The room was really lovely and the bed was super comfy. The seafood risotto and beef short rib were simply wonderful and the breakfast was very nice.A few minor dislikes were, 45 minute wait from ordering dinner to sitting at the table and the same time on the second day for breakfast. We had room service on the second night and it was very disappointing so the charge was removed. The deserts at dinner were ok but not up to the standard of the other 2 amazing courses. And the scones were dreadful.Reece is a smashing young man who works in the restaurant and did the battlement tour.We found all the staff to be very nice and helpful. It is a really special hotel and we hope to return soon.

I booked this afternoon tea as a special treat for some visitors. It was expensive, but I wanted to give them the very best. But that is not what we got. I would say that 'average' just about covers it. My visitors were from France and had heard all about our scones with jam and cream - I make great scones - you have to make them an hour before you serve them at the very latest. As we - and others - had booked, I would have thought that they would be very fresh and delicious. But they were not. I came home and made them my version of afternoon tea the next day. I won't be treating anyone to afternoon tea at Langley Castle any time soon.

The food was well presented and delicious. The castle setting made it memorable and the staff were friendly. Top marks could not be given as the plates for the main course were cold and the food rapidly became tepid and lost its flavour.

Excellent food, well served in a beautiful castle environment. Everything was well presented and flavorful. There is the full fancy menu or a light dining option. The best part is that you start with drinks in the Drawing Room upstairs and order there and then they come and bring you down to the dining room when your table is ready. A wonderful experience.

We have just returned from a short break at Langley Castle and it was amazing. The rooms we stayed in (castle view) were beautifully clean, warm and the bed was very comfortable. We had a beautiful meal in the restaurant last night and the breakfast this morning was superb. The Castle is amazing and the peacocks in the ground really are a delight to watch. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We cannot wait to return again!!

24 club members enjoyed lunch today, followed by an afternoon playing Bridge in the Pavillion. The food was faultless, the staff couldn't have been more helpful, friendly, welcoming and accommodating, and I think I speak for everybody in saying that we all had a great time.

Booked afternoon tea in the Castle Drawing Room & what a treat!! From driving into the Castle grounds it was perfect......A warm reception received by staff & my family were so impressed by the setting. We were well looked after throughout - the afternoon tea was served with the addition of fresh fruit as one of the group unfortunately can't eat the cakes - we felt like nothing was too much trouble. The scones were still warm, good selection of sandwiches & the mini cakes were a perfect end!! Such a relaxing location for an afternoon treat!!

Had cream tea here yesterday afterwards which was lovely. But it was dinner that we looked forward to most. Guided to drawing room for pre-dinner drinks, we chose a cocktail. Plenty of aperitifs were offered, and enjoyed. Staff were lovely and friendly. They took our food orders here, we had already paid for table d'hote when booking. Another member of staff assisted us to restaurant with our drinks. We were offered a complimentary amouse bouche and small selection of bread. Our chosen starters were scallops and beef, followed by Guinea fowl and lamb. All cooked to perfection and flavours were lovely. We also ordered extra side if hand-cut chips to fill it out a bit but not needed really. Our desserts were chocolate slice and pistachio cake, again these were just gorgeous. After dinner coffee was offered but declined. Would definitely eat here again and recommend it to anyone

Birthday celebration for two. When we arrived, on a very wet evening, the receptionist was on the telephone and didn't appear to notice us. We had to look ourselves for somewhere to hang our coats. The pre-dinner drink in the lounge was ruined by having to share the room with the remains of an earlier wedding party, which included several small, excited and overtired children running about and shouting. The meal was excellent. However, when choosing our digestifs, the waiter appeared to know little, if anything, about the different malt whiskies on offer. The ladies' room had no fresh linen towels; the basket which had once contained them was empty and grubby, Left an unfortunate impression, as did the lack of welcome. The outside of the castle is magnificent but the interior decoration is tired, Disney-medieval kitsch. Such a shame.

We stayed in the castle so decide to eat here too. It's about £45 for three courses. Whilst you peruse the menu with a drink they bring you a couple of canopies. We were then led down to the restaurant, which is nice, but small so the tables are quite close together. I had the wood pigeon to start and my partner the scallops. Both were ok. For main we had venison and pheasant. I was quite taken aback by the small portion size. I only had two pieces of venison loin, a bit on the tight side for the price. I also had parsnip overload on my starter and main, but I guess that was the choices I made. The best course by far was the pudding, I had the liquorice and it saved me from being totally disappointed with the meal, it was gorgeous. I also thought the wine was on the pricey side per glass so I stuck to the prosecco which was reasonable. Overall the meal was nice enough but I wasn't blown away, it didn't scream fining dining which is what I think they're aiming for.

As a treat my daughter took me for afternoon tea on 28th December. Different finger sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, different cakes with endless pots of tea. Very comfortable seats. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff. Although fairly busy you were able to sit and chat without feeling they wanted you to leave when you had finished. Perfect place to relax after Christmas

Played today, Mon 26th August, Great layout, but sadly the greens are diseased and awful, and the tee boxes are terrible, very expensive bar, and no food being served, even though there was a competition on, and the bar was busy, Sadly one to miss in the future.

We visited Hexham yesterday and found this café in the Market Place, after a lovely River Tyne walk. It was quite busy at 1pm but we didn't have to wait long for our table. The girls made us feel very welcome and worked so hard while we were there clearing tables and getting everyone seated as soon as possible. My husband had a bacon sarnie and I had a ham and mushroom omelette which was so light and fluffy, delicious. Coffees were great too. Plenty of choice on the menu and great prices. Doggy friendly too with a treat for pooch 🐾

What a welcoming, hospitable place. If you ever need cheering up, this is the place to go. We were made welcome immediately, and tony the owner had us in stiches from the start. Everyone there were so friendly, and what had started as an intended short visit, led to us staying to closing. Met some brilliant characters, who all just made our day. Dog friendly too, which was an added bonus to us. Can't recommend enough.
