Langans Brasserie in City of London, Westminster

I’ve been to Langans a number of times recently so felt the need to review. Food, drink and service is exceptional. The beef wellington, fish pie, and Dover sole are particular favourites of mine.

Langans is consistently excellent in every way from the moment you walk through the doors to the moment you leave. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with subtle lighting and decor that strikes the perfect balance between elegance and comfort. If you’re lucky enough to be greeted by Martin, Dana or Adrienne they’re genuinely welcoming, knowledgeable, and attentive without ever feeling intrusive. The menu is a masterpiece, offering a selection that highlights fresh, seasonal ingredients prepared with creativity and precision. Each dish arrives beautifully presented, and the flavors are absolutely spot-on. The chefs clearly take pride in their craft, as every bite showcases a perfect harmony of taste and texture—whether it’s the delicate starters, the beautifully cooked main courses, or the indulgent desserts that feel like an experience in themselves. And let’s not forget the drink menu! The selection of wines, (Yen is a master) craft cocktails (Upstairs), are thoughtfully curated to complement the food. Each pairing feels intentional, and Yen (downstairs) Mark, Ruby & Vallerio (Upstairs) are more than happy to offer recommendations to suit your preferences. In short, dining here is more than just a meal—it’s an experience. With impeccable service, exceptional food, and an ambiance that makes you want to linger, this restaurant sets the standard. I can’t recommend it highly enough, and I find myself already planning my next visit as soon as I leave

This famous Brasserie had come back to life after the sad end to Peter Langan in 1988. The place was famous for having the famous as clientele – Invited by co-owner Michael Caine. What is it like today now that Robert de Niro and David Bailey are not getting out so much? We had the prix fix menu for lunch, and it turned out to be a good choice. The smoked salmon and avocado were cubed and shaped in a ring with pumpernickel bread on the side – subtly made to let the ingredients speak for themselves – fresh and vibrant. My liver parfait – was rich, buttery with a hint of port, served with brioche toast – a great start. Then salmon in a sauce and Langan’s famous bangers and mash – 2 firm Cumberland sausages on mash with a rich dark gravy. All top quality though we ordered the salmon pink, and it was cooked more than that. And the French fries – Some of the best in London. Get the French fries. We made the mistake of ordering the Langan’s Mess – merengue, cream, ice cream, raspberries and a hot chocolate source – Like an irresistible drug. This did push us over – You only need the 2 courses. With a G&T (£14.50) that seemed like a triple and a Noam beer (£8) we were satisfied. The place is high ceilinged, surprisingly light and there is plenty of space between the diners. The service is formal unless you break through with the staff – Our server Eveline was top notch. She played with us, chatted when we wanted and even showed us the Langan’s photography book of the 80’s stars who came there – Charlotte Rampling, Mick Jaggar, George Michael, Joan Collins, Steven Spielberg, Ringo Starr, Christopher Reeves, Dustin Hoffman, Shirley Bassey, Richard Harris, Elizabeth Taylor, Peter O’Toole, and the list goes on. We were allowed to linger and not pestered to exit as in so many places these days. I guess the stars have moved on, no longer drawn in by the then owner Michael Caine to party in style, just as they no longer go to the Ivy, Sheekys or the Savoy Grill. At £60 a head it is not cheap (and that was with the prix fix) I would say the experience and the history make this a worthwhile investment of your money and your time. Recommended.

Just went there with my grandpa and had the best time! Lovely atmosphere, the food was exquisite, and the staff was accommodating! Definitely would 100% recommend the place!

Such a lovely lunch service for a ladies catch up. The food was all delicious especially the salmon. It's been a long time since I celebrated my 18th birthday here! Definitely find time to go try the food here especially the mashed potatoes, they were stand out

Langan’s has changed - no more red walls, no more menus with silhouettes of Michael Caine and Peter Langan… But - the bangers and mash still remain and does the fish n chips, mixed in amongst the posh starters and entrees. We had both along with a few Negronis during a mid day Lun-Der at 3:00 pm. The new room decorated in greens and white, comfortable, good service, Mayfair prices to be expected.

We had a lunch(6 Oct.) at Langan's celebrating a friend's milestone birthday. Prior to the lunch, my wife and I sat at the bar drinking a couple of glasses of wine while we waited for the lunch to be set up. The bartender, Abi(?), happily chatted with us and made the time waiting much more enjoyable. He certainly knew his cocktails(my wife peppered him with questions), but was very patient and friendly. We thought of him as a great introduction to your wonderful staff. The lunch itself was superb-excellent quality food, friendly and attentive service. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend Langan's for any occasion. Sunday's lunch brought back some lovely memories-I first visited Langan's about 1985 and have returned many times since.

The service was very good. The food was generally good. What was very surprising however is the fact that this famous name should stoop to use frozen fries coated in artificial food additives. Really? Really?? Can’t even prepare fries?

Great service, great food and great environment. If you want to find a place for dating or for business lunch, here would be the perfect place. Recommend “English breakfast” and all the deserts. Can’t describe how good they are. Ps. Smelled the fish and chips on other clients’ table and it really smell so so so good!! Will throw a try next time for sure!!!

I booked online for an early dinner. I was promptly seated in their attractive dining room. Service was excellent and attentive. I enjoyed a wonderful martini and ordered chicken Kiev which is very hard to find on menus in the US. I was told it took more time to prepare than other entrees but it was worth the wait. Crunchy coating and melt in your mouth chicken. I like desserts so ordered a fig soufflé, again not something I can get in the US. Wonderful and perfectly prepared. I had a fine evening and highly recommend this restaurant.

A sophisticated restaurant with a long-standing history, offering exquisite French cuisine. The Beef Wellington was outstanding, with perfectly cooked beef wrapped in flaky pastry. The escargot was also a highlight, rich in flavor and prepared to perfection. This place is ideal for those seeking a luxurious French dining experience in an elegant, historic setting.

Great place to dine in a classic 50s era venue-our hotel recommended we dine here and it did not dissapoint! Had a desire for USA beef and their Creekstone farms steak hit the spot! Wife enjoyed her vegetarian meal as well Great apps, great food and service as well! Highly recommend!

Dining at Langan’s Brasserie was a delightful experience from start to finish. The cozy, elegant ambiance set the perfect tone, and the attentive service made me feel privileged. The oysters were fresh and briny, the classic onion soup rich and comforting, and the beef Wellington was perfectly cooked—juicy and tender with a beautifully flaky pastry. The soufflé for dessert was light, airy, and the perfect ending. Paired with Tokyo Daisy, the meal was a true treat.

We had a wonderful night here. Food was delicious service was excellent. Authentic French food perfect for dressing up nights. My favourites are beef tartare and beef wellington, and oysters are so fresh. French onion soup is surprisingly good. If you're looking for wine, they have really great Chablis. Location is perfect just opposite green park station.

Beautifully designed restaurant with private dining room and private club. Great service and tasty menu. The place has a bar area on the ground floor and stylish private club upstairs divided into three separate yet linked areas.

An incredible restaurant, everything is perfect, the attention from the moment you enter the door, the service is very friendly and I loved the detail for my birthday, I had not said it but I imagine that when filling out the reservation form through an app, they knew but I loved it. Their food is 10 and the location is perfect, without a doubt a good experience that I highly recommend. Thank you Langan’s brasserie for making me feel special on my day.

Truly exceptional in every way - from the food to the team

Maybe I went on a bad night or chose wrong but my zucchini flower was undercooked and the risotto a bit dull. Would recommend sticking to the ‘staples’ when ordering

Returned after many years absence. Great buzz, but ask for the main restaurant area not the side room. Probably the best veal chop I have had in London and the remainder of our dishes were very good. I complained that the wine measure was mean and it was corrected, think the wine waiter was having a bad night. My wife's starter portion of tuna was miniscule, but she's on diet and perhaps the chef knew. Value, not bad, it's London Mayfair and that isn't cheap! Overall a good evening and we will return.

Fabulous again. My old friend and i have been going to Langan’s for more than 20 years and it’s now as good ( food, service, atmosphere) as it ever was. Fantastic. The brilliant Katia and the rest of the staff light the place up with wonderful service.

I've been going to Langan's Brasserie for more than 20 years, since it was owned by Michael Caine and Richard Langan. The recent 'refresh' is in keeping with the original in decor, ambience and cuisine. It's still a wonderful escape in the West End right beside Green Park and the Ritz. Lazy, unhurried with outstanding dishes and equally outstanding food. Highly recommended.

I’m visiting from the US, although I used to live in London. It’s the first time I’ve been to Langman’s in many years. The service, menu, wine list and food preparation and presentation were all excellent. I’ll be back!

My wife booked the 3 courses set from the Fork. The menu also included a glass of champagne The food was alright but the value for the money was very good However what we really enjoyed was the service from the waitress, the attitude and attention to details were top notch The place was quite nice and had this mix of classic but modern with their paintings.

Langan’s never disappoints. The place sticks to the highest standards as always. A single observation: the wine list is shorter and a bit pricey after pandemia. Our favorite brasserie in London.

Visited fairly regularly many years ago. Do not really know why I stopped going, probably starting a family was a major cause, but this was my first visit in around 25 years. It was as good as I remember with no stuffy dress code. Decor probably better now and service excellent. For me Langan’s was always about fish and chips or sausage and mash and I went for the mash. Took a couple of American friends who wanted to try fish and chips and they described portion size as “of Vegas level” (very large) and were impressed. For London, food is reasonably priced although it is fairly easy to run up a large drinks bill. Now I have rediscovered it will be back shortly.

Look its not the cheapest. Drinks at the bar fabulous to start. But if you want good solid food with proper proper proper service. Go to Langans. Oysters 5* starters 5*. Fish pie was delicious and filling. Cheesecake wonderful. But most importantly the service is just so good. You dont notice it which is perfect. Old school and worth every penny for it.

Met up with my friends in our regular favourite place in Mayfair. As usual food and service was great . Thank you Martin was always making us feel so welcomed.

Been coming here for over 40 years. Exceptional in every way as always. The fixed price lunch menu was superb. The food and wine divine. The staff wonderful. Always a friendly buzz. A happy place.

Food was utterly delicious, the service was top class and the restaurant was busy yet not loud.

Had a wonderful time for lunch here at Langan’s. Ordered the crudités as a starter, forgot to take a photo, but it’s an absolutely beautiful presentation, a selection of raw veg in a giant silver goblet with creamy dips. Then I had the root veg roast which was something I have only found in my dreams thus far and also the ceviche dish topped with flowers. Just lovely! My family had the risotto (which apparently was preferred over the one at the Savoy), filet mignon, bangers and mash, ahi tuna, pasta et al, all enjoyed with no complaints. My only hope was that Michael Caine might come join us, alas, he did not. I shall have to return!

Brilliant lunch. Had steak and chips which were both delicious. Decor is good, service is fantastic, some lovely little touches like chocolate given at the end of the meal. Eager to return soon

Decent choice if you have something to go to in Mayfair. They have a fixed menu until 6:30pm, 3 courses for £35. With drinks on-top it came to around £65 per person. We the chicken liver parfait, Asparagus, Salmon, risotto, Chicken Kiev and blueberry cheesecake. All were reasonably tasty. A la carte is average prices for the type of venue & area. Service was good. Venue got a bit noisy. When busy.

Having eaten here numerous times before we were once again looking forward to it. We weee disappointed that we felt the service was very hurried and also thought that the price paid for the food quality on offer was really quite expensive. Don’t think we would hurry back.

Langans has never failed to disappoint. It is probably my favourite restaurant. I’ve been going there since the ‘80’s not long after Peter Langan, Michael Caine & Richard Shepherd opened it in 1976. Langans is a fabulous institution which has always had a restorative effect ! Excellent food and superfluous service. Thank you

We booked Upstairs at Langan's for our summer networking drinks. The events manager, Nataliia, was extremely helpful with helping to organise our evening and made some great suggestions on our menu choices. On the night our guests were warmly welcomed by the staff and the service was impeccable. The cocktails were particularly delicious. Our guests were delighted with the experience so much so they were reluctant to leave! The feedback from our guests has been brilliant and that is very much down to the great front and back of house team at Langan's.

Lovely Sunday evening at Langan’s. Such a good experience, as if one can travel back in time. I was surprised to be challenged on my personal ID at the door( on the way out), otherwise I would be given 5 stars to the service and spinach was full of sand, it was the reason why 4 stars. But the food was outstanding, absolutely delicious.

I just love this restaurant, especially for celebrating birthdays, as everyone makes it a very special occasion. My niece and I shared the Beef Wellington and it was absolutely delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection. Service is always perfect here. The staff are delightful, very friendly, make you feel so welcome and they all have a sense of humour too! Will be back very soon!

Doing the right things right is no secret, but doing them is all too often a problem for all too many places. Not here. How many places do I go to and come out feeling better than when I went in? Again, so very few. And so, this is less a critique of my experience and more an ovation. Thank you. I thought you were fab.

loved all the food and appreciated the artwork collection on the walls. Seatings are well designed and comfortable. The newly opened cigar bar is beautiful, and music was wonderful.

I used to eat at Langans frequently in the 80’s and 90’s - it was my favourite London restaurant for many years. In those days Michael Caine would sometimes be sitting at his table near the door, smoking cigars and Peter Langans would be moving around the restaurant a little shakily in a white suit - on one occasion he was asleep under a table in the bar - no one disturbed him! I was in the restaurant the day after he sadly passed away, it was our firms Christmas lunch. My last visit prior to this one was in 2001 and then I stopped working in London . Fast forward to yesterday. It’s too long a period to make direct comparisons but I will say the present owners have maintained the standard - good service, a great buzzy atmosphere and although our ‘exploration’ of the menu was limited as it was a lunchtime and we had a table at Scotts booked for the evening, the food was good. My wife and myself both had the fish pie. It’s been a while but Langans is now firmly back on my list of restaurants to visit when in London.

Wow. The staff here are so welcoming. Ushered to a seat at the bar. The bar staff prompt, friendly and efficient. We had a great range of different house cocktails which were so impressive - tasty, balanced, nuanced. Inevitably costly (its langans so go figure) but worth every penny. A lovely vibe to have a some cocktails with friendly staff who chat but don't impose. Excellent.

Will most definitely return here on my next visit to London. Loved the decor and atmosphere of this restaurant. Staff were exceptional and knowledgeable in what they were serving . Food was fantastic…sometimes keeping dishes simple works .

The service at Langans is superb - very attentive and extremely courteous. The food was ok - one guest had the steak tartare which she loved. Another guest had the fish pie which was disappointing - not a lot of flavour sadly. It’s very noisy so not somewhere to go to if you want to have a quiet catch up.

Langan’s Brasserie is a restaurant of superlatives. The ambience, the excellent service and the star cuisine leave nothing to be desired. We have often dined in star restaurants but this one exceeded everything. Thank you for the lovely birthday evening on April 20, 2024. Absolute highlight.

The food was very disappointing for the amount charged. My Dorset crab was as flat as a pancake with a bare minimum garnish/accompaniment - even in Marks and Spencer’s does it come on a bed of egg or something. I literally had about 8 fries in my portion of French Fries! If you are going to charge over £100 per head, you’ll need to up your game.

It was booked for a birthday and as we sat down, I was given a card. We had the Set Menu which had a good selection and we really enjoyed. Service was excellent throughout and we weren’t rushed. A birthday treat arrived near the end.

Great choice for business breakfast - never lets you down

Lovely buzzy atmosphere and very good service. Unfortunately our sparkling wine choice was not chilled so an alternative was available. The food is exceptional. The only comment I would make is that the Dover sole-grilled-has a large number of scorch marks along each fillet which were very strong and did affect the flavour of the fish.Renovations are occurring but we will certainly visit again. A nice experience.

We have wanted to visit this place for sometime now. We went for a family celebration and It exceeded our expectations. The whole experience was a real event. I like the expectations of the Dress code which made it feel special. The staff were polite and welcoming, we then went upstairs for cocktails which were excellent and reasonably priced. The decor and staff upstairs were also excellent, the food was exceptional and all of our party agreed it was some of the best food we’d ever tasted. I can highly recommend the risotto. We were not rushed and we felt completely relaxed. We spent the whole evening there and were one of the last to leave. We will certainly return, we loved everything about the experience and I would highly recommend a visit to this place.

Loved this place!!! Loved the art and decor, the food, the service, and the variety of diners. Only complaint is that if they state that jackets are required, jackets should actually BE required. We will definitely be back!

I arrived early for the reservation made by a friend and was shown to the lounge to wait. She was already there and had ordered a drink. After we greeted each other the person who had showed me where to go has disappeared . A short while later the other member of our party joined us. We sat chatting and suddenly realised that we hadn’t been called to our table although it was 10 minutes after the time we had booked and I had been there for at least 20 minutes. We were then approached by a woman who asked if we wanted any drinks. We said we were waiting to be called to our table so she disappeared and someone else generously took us through. We were offered menus and had to ask specifically for the Prix fixe Menu. We ordered and eventually our food arrived which was good but nothing out of the ordinary. When it was made clear we wanted no extras , apart from one glass of wine, we were rather ignored. No one asked us how our meal was. When we wanted to pay we had to ask twice for the bill. It is unnecessary to add that optional extra of 15 % gratuity, we are not living in America. I am always happy to add to a bill if the service and food has been good. Also a cover charge at lunch time seems to be a little over the top especially as the restaurant was almost empty with us and two other tables, one of which was really loud but what can you expect when a party of four got through 4 bottles of wine. The only redeeming feature to my mind was the lovely receptionist who greeted us in and out. Will not be visiting again neither will I be recommending the place.
