My husband and I have just eaten at the this restaurant and we can honestly say we’ve never ever been served by such an ignorant rude waiter as we have been in the Kite Restaurant!!! The food was actually really lovely but the service completely lets it down! It wasn’t busy, he wasn’t stressed he was just ignorant and cared little for making the experience eating in this restaurant a good one, hence to say we won’t be visiting again. We live in Chinnor a nearby village and will now not ever recommend anyone to stay or eat here! The restaurant is supposed to be AA Rosette but they’re leagues away from anything near that, you get better service at McDonald’s,

We attended on a Saturday evening - the food was nice, well presented. My wife particularly enjoyed the feather blade beef. I had salmon which was nice too. The food was good, the drinks were a little pricey, a captive audience for the hotel guests. I would eat there if I stayed at the hotel again.

Expensive and limited menu. There was only five main course options (only one vegetarian). I had the fish and chips which was £16.95. It was not worth £16.95. The cheeseburger was £14.95 (the neighbouring table had this and it didn't look much). The restuarant is nicely decorated but lacked atmosphere.

No No No, small expensive portions. Not a good Sunday lunch at all and I have no Idea why they would want to start this new venture when we have a far better option only 1 mile down the same road in the Englands Rose? BUT the Lambert is a very good place for morning or afternoon Tea indeed as the service is good and the range of teas wide and will cater for every taste.

I visited with my elderly mother, my wife, my daughter and her husband and their 2 month old baby, and my other daughter for a special Christmas lunch and was extremely pleased. We chose this place more because it was mid-way between our addresses than because of its restaurant but we came away delighted with the food, the reasonable prices, trhe ease of access and parking, the dining room, its decoration and the attentiveness and friendliness of the staff. There was easy access for my elderly mother and space for my grandson's pushchair, and all the staff were very helpful. We were welcomed into a side lounge for a cup of tea after our meal, and I plan to go back for the next special occasion.

There was prompt service, hot plates and delicious food and it was all at a reasonable price. They coped with my wheat intolerance with the minimum of fuss and made us feel very welcome. This was made all the better by there being an EV charger in the car park. So the car got refreshed whilst we were. 😊

Stayed at this hotel on a Groupon Deal and a 3 course meal was included on the first night which I must say was delicious, well presented and very tasty. So much so we decided to dine there on the 2nd night. However was a bit disappointed with the choice of food on offer from the main menu as this included all the dishes from the Groupon deal menu with just what it seemed a few more dishes on offer. I would say as well the meals aren't cheap with steaks ranging from £24 -£32. However the food was very good and the services was excellent.

Was a bit apprehensive about some of the reviews but; Service was good with swift drinks orders taken. menu had decent choice and portions were generous. food well cooked and presented, typical good quality pub food. Suprisingly good glass by the wine, especially the Rioja. Nice puddings, price quite acceptable. Waiters whilst all being "foreign" all spoke good English (and probably several other languages) and were able to cope with quite a few nationalities dining.

Took my mother for Sunday lunch and was so disappointed. The service was slow but there seemed to be only one young lady on duty trying to do everything in the restaurant. The time from ordering it receiving was about 30 mins for a basic Sunday roast the veg was cold and the beef so tough and grisly. We did mention when asked if everything was ok but only received a limp apology and a shrug of the shoulders. For the price we paid would have expected a decent meal that was at least hot and edible. We popped in for a late dinner on a Monday night and we're very disappointed with the food and the very brightly lit restaurant only highlighted the lack of atmosphere. The staff were friendly but that didn't make up for the food.We both had stakes which were so fatty we couldn't eat them. The chips were raw and also inedible. No one asked us how our food was throughout the meal, if they had I would have told them the problem and given them a chance to do something about it. As our full plates were being cleared we were still not asked what we thought of the food but I did mention the raw chips, the chap asked if we wanted more chips but it was late and a portion of chips on their own was not appealing. No coffees or puddings were offered as an apology for the poor food so we left hungry.

Breakfast in the morning even more so, who wants curry and rice with their usual toast and bacon?? Plus a surprising array of desserts that had obviously been left behind in the kitchen the evening before. Problems with key fobs both days, reception unmanned with phone ringing on and on. The only positive I can say is that all staff were friendly and attentive when they were around. Will not be returning there nor recommending to anyone at all.

I get together with some girlfriends every couple of months and last night we were really looking forward to a pre-xmas get together - unfortunately we chose the Lambert Hotel ! Firstly, the restaurant area decor and table settings looked extremely old fashioned and uninviting. The menu was extensive but lacking many 'lighter' options. Two of us ordered the mussels special to start and they were overcooked and literally disintegrated as you tried to eat them - my main course was a pea and feta risotto which was more like bad stodgy rice pudding when it arrived, I sent it back and reordered the fishcake option - this was ok apart from the overpowering salad cream tasting sauce which they sat upon. The staff stood at the doorway repeatedly looking over at us presumably discussing their 'difficult' customers. The highlight of the meal was the coffees and sticky toffee pudding. I rarely go to the trouble of writing on TA but felt compelled to after last nights experience - please sav your money and go somewhere else to eat.

We sat in the bar area as we had dogs with us and things didn't start well. Young man behind the bar was very pleasant but had never been taught how to open a bottle of wine. Also not his fault the he did not know how to do a bitter shandy without wasting almost two pints before someone came to the rescue. Management....train your staff before throwing them in the deep end!Two burgers and a soup took just over 45 minutes to arrive. Burgers patties obviously home made but seriously bland, compact and dry. Tiny spoonful of onion marmalade did not help much so asked for ketchup and Mayo. Managed about half the burger and I have to admit my dog thoroughly enjoyed the rest. At least one of us enjoyed their meal.Prices are very reasonable so I suppose I should not have expected anything more !

As a chef, I know reviews are subjective and not always constructive.I booked a room for a night away for my wife's 30th. The hotel was great. The Kite restaurant however was not.I hadnt booked as originally we were going to another restaurant but decided to not drive anywhere else.As we were residents and even though they were catering for a party of 100+ in a seperate function room they fitted us in. Although I counted no more than 18 couverts, so far from busy.I found the food far from AA rosette standard. The menu appeared muddled up, both bar dishes and restaurant dishes included on the menu, in a format that was neither coherent or correct. ("freshly made" soup, why wouldn't it be? hake, steak & peppercorn sauce, chicken or teriyaki beef sizzlers, burgers, braised lamb shoulder, sausage & mash all the same menu...really?)We were offered water for the table although the glasses and surplus cutlery wasn't removed as is usual. Water was poured for us only once, but at the very end of the meal, which I thought odd.The marinated olives were the cheaper tastless type you find, the token amount of rosemary, garlic and the pomace oil added nothing to add or enhance the flavour. The breadboard contained three tastless flavoured oils and the bread cold and dry, with butter individual foil wrapped instead of cut from a better product. On that note the butter was room temp instead from the fridge so there's one positive. The maitre'd did remove this from the bill and apologise.I couldn't decide what to choose, as the menu was larger than I feel it should be so I was questioning the freshness of the produce. This seemed to annoy the waiter who rolled his eyes at having to give me more time.In the end I decided to try the special starter, pressing of duck terrine. It was ok, although it came to the table with an apology as the first one had been sent to another table. There was only one piece of cartiledge and was a little dry and underseasoned, the pickled carrot was almost incredulous, the format was pointless to the dish. The toast was the best part.We decided to just have chips, the mayo was cheap and nasty though. And a cheese board, of which there were 6 cheeses to choose from, with 4 included.During the whole meal, party guests were traipsing through the dining room to the private function, which was very off putting not just to us but was clearly annoying other tables. At this point the waiter forgot to ask which cheeses we would like as he again had to close the door on the loud music. Then disappeared with our plates.Despite the menu stating that cheese comes with bread, crackers, celery, apple, grapes and homemade chutney, the cheese arrived with three crackers, (the portions of cheese were huge too), no bread, three sticks of celery, (which I would of declined had I been able to converse properly with the maitre'd), no apple, five small grapes including a mouldly one, the chutney wasn't really a chutney, onions fried with tomatoes is a fair assesment. At this point I didnt feel I should bother them anymore, between the pacing up and down of waiters, a language barrier and the rushing about of the maitre'd, I know how draining working front of house can be. From personal experience, chefs and guests are not always nice to them.Shame about the decor, it felt dated and jarring. Which really wasnt reflected compared to the rest of the hotel and the bar areas. There was a lack of ambience, and I couldn't tear my eyes from the cobwebs or marks on the wall left by tables being pushed up against them and so on.I didnt take any pictures as seeing people together on their mobile phones always bemuses me. Are people so boring nowadays? I would ban mobiles at restaurant tables if I could. It is so rude.Perhaps on another occasion I would of been content but not this time.I wonder if the head chef who won the rosette is still employed here.

We ate here on both evenings of our stay at the hotel and must say that overall the food is really good, the bar is a cosy place and the restaurant is more formal but still intimate. The owners made a wise decision in providing two menus for patrons, the 'bar' menu is described as 'comfort food' while the Kite restaurant as a 'little more refined'. We were handsomely treated by the maitre de & the staff on both evenings; the second being particularly special and somewhat of an ocassion especially so! I was a little apprehensive at the prospect of a 'buffet' breakfast but really didn't need to be the hotel was very busy (family gatherings & a big birthday) so the cooked food was regularly replenished with no opportunity to dry out whatsoever. Coffee was good & fresh artisan bread was available for those of us who wanted.I would have liked to see some evidence of Kites in the bar & restaurant - especially as they are so plentiful in the area & that is the name of the establishment but that's just me! There was no sense of being GROUPON guests, just a really excellent stay and commendable service from both front of house and kitchen and room staff. A big thank you to all!

We have been several times to the Lambert Arms over the summer and the service can be hit or miss and it does always seem to be short staffed. We have had lunch here on Friday the 5th of August and sat outside to enjoy the summer weather and we had to chase drinks orders which had taken over 15 mins to get to us. We then placed a lunch order and then asked for condiments and then waited and further 20 mins before we had to go to the kitchen to see where the condiments as we were quite a way through the lunch and had virtually finished before they arrived with them. We then went here for an evening meal on Wednesday the 8th of September and arrived at 8pm with the intention of having dinner with 2 family members . We live approx 500 yards from the hotel and have been visiting regularly for lunches and dinner. The bar had a few people having a drink and the restaurant had 4 of approximately 10 tables occupied. There was a large table of about 12 about to eat in the side room , overall it was about a third full . When I asked if we could order food and sit outside after being asked if I was staying at the hotel I was told that they would not be able to even take my order until 8:45 at the earliest due to the table of 12 who were waiting on their food! We said thank you but no and left.

Looked for a venue near Oxford, to meet friends travelling from different places and found this hotel. The setting is really nice: a old tudor-style hotel with modern features and rooms. It's just off the M40, with plenty of parking. The photos don't really do justice to the size of the hotel, because it's got a lovely quadrangle with lots of hotel rooms looking onto it.We asked for a comfortable space inside, but then decided it was nice enough to eat outside and sat under a huge umbrella at a large round table. Thanks very much for not minding that we messed you around. The teas themselves were wonderful - lots of attractive sandwiches, with plenty of filling, a good choice of cakes and plenty of cream and jam to go with the scones. If I have one tiny criticism. it's that we ordered some more drinks and a pot of tea much later, before leaving. I did think the £4 Plus for a pot of tea for one was a bit steep......This is a good choice, if you are looking for an Afternoon Tea that is not too far from Oxford and is very good value ( and believe me, I did check out a few before choosing this one) .Thanks to the staff who looked after us so well- even when we messed them around a little. Set in lovely countryside it is such a shame that the waiting staff don't give a damn!We arrived, told our table wasn't ready and it would take a few minutes. So we took our drinks to the patio area and starting chatting. Over half an hour later we returned to see what was happening with our table to be told "Oh we gave it away to someone else." We were far from pleased. Another table was found and we proceeded to order. The food was nice, not mind blowing but quite acceptable. However once our mains and puddings had been delivered this was the end of all service. We were busy catching up and didn't notice the time until a staff member came to our table and told us we had to leave because he was closing the restaurant but we could sit in the bar. We asked for two more drinks and were refused as we were not guests. The staff member insisted everyone had been told it was last orders some 15 minutes previous, however in our case this simply did not happen. He refused to give us any drinks so we settled the bill and left. He really didn't give a damn. We will not be returning and recommend you don't bother even going here. In terms of accommodation it is a rather basic hotel but it is comfortable and we slept very well. On the whole we felt we got what we paid for but the one tiny bottle of shampoo/shower gel and a sliver of soap did not allow for an indulgent toilette prior to a black tie evening. If we were to stay again - and we would - I would arrive better equipped with my own toiletries.

My wife and I met two friends here for lunch. It was a cold, wet day but as we came in there was a real fire blazing away in the bar which was a nice welcoming touch. The restaurant was well laid out and offered a very good selection of starters, mains and desserts. My wife and I had their home-made broccoli and blue cheese soup, most refreshing as the chef had added a touch of lime to balance the strong cheese. My wife had the roast pork, and was pleased to get a large piece of crackling which she requested. I had the half-pound steak-burger, a huge creation with good moist burger meat, cheese, bacon, warm onion jam relish and skinny fries. We had lager with the meal, but I did note quite a comprehensive wine list with not too expensive prices. The desserts offered were nearly all very fattening but delicious. I went for the Clementine Brulee, which was quite light and refreshing after all I had already eaten. The various types of coffee available are served in decent sized cups, rather than the normal rather stingy catering variety, and there is a good selection of liqueurs. Service here is impeccable, and staff are pleasant and helpful at all times. We only went to the restaurant today, but the premises is also a hotel with comprehensive facilities for weddings and conferences. The friends we dined with are having their wedding and reception here later in the year.

Stayed here as it was a convenient location being near to the M40. The hotel seemed to be completely full. Unfortunately I was allocated a room at the front of the hotel (Room 4) on the road. This was a very noisy room unfortunately. I would avoid it and try to get a room in the more modern part of the hotel if you can.My colleague was allocated the adjoining room (Room 3). Similar issues with noise and also the toilet became blocked to a point where the hotel was unable to resolve it. Fortunately he was able to move to another room but it was not an ideal situation.Breakfast was OK (£12.50).The bar area is very nice with open fires. If I had to stay in room 3 or 4 I would avoid this hotel in future. If I could get into one of the new rooms at the back of the hotel away from the road I think it would have been a very different experience (hence my "average" rating).

Stayed here for 7 nights the first week of November. Location was great for touring the Chilterns and other Midsomer Murders locales. Very close to Oxford. Just off M40 so driving into London was easy as would be getting to Heathrow or Gatwick airports.People were very friendly and helpful. Room was average size, clean and comfortable. had dinner at the restaurant first night. Food was fine nothing spectacular. Felt it was overpriced for what we got.Free Wifi was appreciated as well as the cable TV. Overall a reasonable and comfortable spot.

We had a very pleasant stay here. The room was huge, however the bed was very soft. Looks like they are mid face-lift as they were painting the wood work in the corridors and there was scaffolding outside our bedroom window. The food was very pleasant, although slightly dearer than expected. Despite be near a busy road, there was very little road news (the rooms are set back from the roadside). We didn't bother with breakfast as we felt that £12.50 each was a bit steep.

We were here for a business conference, stayed overnight and had dinner - which was very good. Room was surprisingly large, very comfortable and quiet. Breakfast in the morning was also good, plenty of choice in a bright airy part of the restaurant. We hope to return and do the Midsomer locations trails - they provide free maps at reception!

Staying here we decided to dine in the restaurant. Service was good and food delivered promptly. Meals were arranged professionally on the plate, looked great, tasted great, but wished there was more. Unfortunately the portion sizes were a little small and we feel it didnt achieve value for money. I am aware they have won awards for the restaurant but personally feel that were a bit off the mark.

I stayed here recently with my wife. Whilst an unexpected highlight was Gary Barlow arriving to serenade the bride in one of his televised "surprises", unfortunately I was not impressed by this hotel. Somewhat dated and not in a particular nice location, unless you want to be half a mile from a motorway. I would recommend the pub for a stopover en route to Oxford but not as a romantic getaway. The bar and facilities are not nice enough to want to stay for more than a couple of hours. Worth mentioning that the staff were friendly and polite and the breakfast ok,

My husband and I stopped in for lunch as we were halfway through adopting a cat from a rehoming centre in Lewknor and they recommended the Lambton Arms. What a lovely pub! It's a really good combination of stylish/traditional/modern - hard to put your finger on it, but it was a perfect look.We had drinks from the bar, sandwiches and salad and then two intricate desserts. The food was great and the service was excellent.

The staff did try to accommodate us, and despite ringing in advance to check the full menu was available for lunch - discovered on arrival that it was not - which was unfortunate as this was a visit from 70 miles away - and alternatives were limited. The restaurant was very noisy and was not helped by thoughtless seating of young children right next to us in the empty restaurant - this was a lunch for my 75 year old mum - and neither of us could hear what each other was saying as the noise reverberated off the walls! Food was average and luke warm, and expensive for what was delivered but the staff tried hard to help. We won't rush back - which is a shame because we were seeking a lovely mid point restaurant for repeat lunches. Please seat people more sensitively - not everyone loves screaming kids.

I stay here pretty often. Midweek every week or fortnight on business so I'm pretty familiar with the menu. Often I dine alone in the bar, but sometimes as a group in the restaurant. The team here offer pretty consistent service and the food is nicely presented. It's great for a night away from home but the menu gets a bit samey after a few weeks. Can't speak for the weekends but it's a nice place to while away an evening.

The bedroom and bathroom were a fabulous size and the monsoon style shower was lovely. The bed was really very comfortable and the room was clean and modern. We ate breakfast, cream tea and dinner at the pub and can recommend all of them. The evening meal in particular was fantastic and some waiters were lovely. Service was great the majority of the time although occasionally we found the staff to be slightly distracted and less welcoming, particularly when it was quiet at 4pm when we ate the cream tea.

Very deceiving little gem , at first glance it's just a pub with a new extension. Don't be fooled the food is beautiful and very well presented. The bed was the best bed I have ever slept including my own ,it's like staying at a your grandmother s house they always have the best beds :) . Spacious bedrooms and bathroom. Staff very observant ,friendly and helpfully . Breakfast was lovely plenty of choice and also well presented . Could of done with more of a cooked breakfast choice for the b&b guests ,but there was plenty of fruit ,cerials ,breads , juice not complaining as the cooked breakfast was beautiful .

Visited with 2 friends for a catch up dinner and the food was amazing. I am a recent vegetarian and my menu questions were answered politely and proudly. I had the butternut squash risotto (I'd asked if the Parmesan was vegetarian) and it was Devine. Seriously beautiful. Great choice on veggie dishes so I can't wait to go back and try some more. The puddings were out of this world. Massive compliments to the chef & team. Very impressed & will definitely be returning for more. :-)

We did not ask to look at the menu. When I went to pay nobody about, there was a gentlemen also waiting to pay he was there a long 5 minutes before me , I had to ask the receptionist to find someone, that took a while, the food may be good but alas first impression counts
