Lakeside Restaurant in Kirklees

We hired the main room at Ponderosa for a family funeral wake. The team were very flexible regarding the booking as we were unsure about the number of guests we needed to cater for. They were very flexible with the menus and it was no trouble when more people arrived than we were expecting. The food was very good and the staff on the day were thoughtful and attentive to all our guests. Its a beautiful location and perfect for this type of event.

Unexpectedly excellent carvery, delicious meat and vegetables, with above and beyond service from Bianca. Strongly recommended.

We visited Ponderosa Zoo today (08/01/23) and as we walking round noticed this restaurant, as we had spent the day at the zoo and was from out of town, we thought we might as well eat on site as well, the place looked great from outside. It was busy as we entered, it was really busy, we hadn't booked like most but the excellent staff sorted us out a table within a few minutes, Food was great and chef also dished up a little meal for our 6 month old. All staff was very friendly, I haven't seen a work place for a long time where everybody looked like they enjoyed their job. Fantastic

The Hilton family had a wonderful Xmas lunch here. The tables were set beautifully, the staff were first class and the food was excellent. The price is fair and nothing is too much trouble for staff. We left happy and will definitely be back next year. Thankyou to all of you

Carvery is delious with a really good selection of meats and good portions. Desserts are amazing, we don’t always get one because the carvery is filling. Everything is Reasonably priced. Great options on the Children's menu. Staff are really friendly always willing to help. Only one Criticism which doesn’t make it 5 stars, sometimes there is a bit of a wait for staff to come over to you wether it’s seating you, coming to take your order or getting the bill. However I would highly recommend it to everyone and I go quite often with my family.

We had our wedding here, luckily we got married outside in the lovely courtyard setting due to the great weather, everything was absolutely fantastic, lovely food, drinks and everything about the venue is fabulous. You have the whole venue to yourself as opposed to a hotel etc, plenty of parking and lovely gardens for some great photos. A massive thanks to Marton and his lovely staff for all their organising and help making our day brilliant !!

First time visiting and due to it being Easter weekend it was a carvery only menu. Some confusion over the menu and when you had to order pudding as was told could decide later but then overheard the table next to us be told they could order later but would have to pay full price for the dessert and it couldn’t be included in the 2 course deal, to then hear another table be told they could decide later (and not be told about it being full price). We decided not to have pudding anyway because the carvery was filling enough. The restaurant was clean, welcoming staff and quick on most service. Drinks arrived promptly. There was a bit of a wait as we arrived at 12 but the carvery was still setting up but it wasn’t anything longer than you would expect an ordered meal to arrive in. The turkey was lovely and the little one loved the gammon. The beef was a little bit over cooked for our liking but this is just a preference, it all had great flavour. Plenty of vegetable options available included roast parsnips which are our favourites. My only criticism stopping this review being 5 is that when the carver was slicing the meats, he kept taking them out of a big tray and using the same carving board to cut all meats. I personally (not my family) avoid eating pork and others do too for various reasons - carving on the same board ‘contaminates’ other products. Overall, would highly recommend.

We booked a table for Mother's Day last Sunday and everything was excellent. Polite, attentive service and delicious food in lovely surroundings. Very reasonably priced and great value. We will certainly be going again and can highly recommend.

We visited today for my son’s first birthday with a large party to celebrate. All the staff were so nice, from the chefs serving us to our waitress Bianca. They just made the whole meal stress free. The food was lovely - especially the dauphinoise potatoes. The portions for everyone were so generous, we all left feel very satisfied. Honestly, we sat there discussing when we would next visit.

What a superb place to eat from the minute you arrive to be greeted and shown to your seat was out of this world Food was hot and the meat and selection of vegetables were ample Roast potatoes and Yorkshire Pudding delicious All freshly made The sticky toffee pudding was so tasty Will definitely recommend and visit again All the staff are doing an amazing job very friendly and interacting with diners

Visited today for the Sunday Carvery. Had a great experience. Great choice of meat and vegetables, and all piping hot. Staff were very attentive from showing us to our table at the beginning to clearing away when we had finished

We’ve been here a few times for a Sunday Carvery along with a visit to Ponderosa. The food is always excellent and the staff are really friendly from the chef to front of house and the others in the team.

What can I say - the food was spot on - presentation great, piping hot main course and the biggest slab of fudge cake ever. We came here 5 yrs ago and wasn't impressed infact we left - what a transformation!!! The food was spot on, entertainment was fantastic the dance floor was always full, band and Compere fantastic. Will not hesitate to re book for next year. All in all an absolutely fantastic night and the bat prices were very reasonable.

We attended the Halloween party last night In the lakeside resteraunt and we all had a brilliant time, kids all had lots of fun. We all had a meal which was delicious. Venue was nice and clean , bar staff were all friendly and the manager AKA beetlejuice was very helpful in making sure everyone had a chair to sit on, handing out prizes and making sure everyone was happy. Would definitely recommend a visit not just to the zoo but for the food.

Having used Lakeside for many celebrations over the years, we booked the venue to celebrate my 50th Birthday with family and friends. Despite complications from lockdown during the run up, the venue and event was wonderful. Marton and his team did an amazing job and the party was fab. Great location, great food, great staff. We came as a family, me, my husband, baby boy and in laws. The service was fantastic, a specific shout to Liam, Holly & Marton (hoping I got names right) who were so lovely and helpful. We had Sunday carvery and it was the best carvery we have had in a while- so much so we are going to come back with the rest of the family again and again. Came on 29th August. Fantastic meal here as a family of four one of which was a baby the staff were so accommodating. The carver was hilarious and entertaining and I have to say our waiter Liam was fabulous he made us feel so welcome went above and beyond what we'd expect as high standard from a waiter and funny too. Used to be lovely, changes in management and staffing have let it down. Can see it hasn’t been looked after during lockdowns etc.

Myself, my husband and 5 month old and our friends with their 1 year old had the Sunday carvery. Me and my hubby are veggies and love a roast dinner but very rarely find a decent one that caters for us. We were really pleased with the options available. It was delicious and we al really enjoyed it. I’m pretty sure it was free for children (can’t remember as our little on was too young). Really good value for money. The staff were lovely. The manager (I think) even offered to hold my baby whilst I ate. Had to decline due to covid, but lovely gesture. Whenever we visit ponderosa we will always go on a Sunday so we can have the carvery as well! 5/5

I was amazed at how COVID safe it was...we were all at ease...nothing to worry about. We were able to enjoy birthday celebrations without any worries. The food was delicious and definitely worth the money. Staff were very attentive and the service was great. I thought that it was very well managed having one table at a time up for the carvery. We will definitely be returning. This restaurant should be an example for others to follow.

We regularly visit here on a Sunday for a carvery. The staff are friendly and attentive. Visited most recently today 27/09 and during difficult times such as Covid they are really doing a great job!! The food is lovely fresh and piping hot I absolutely love the carrots and potatoes in the cheese sauce!! Really well priced as well xx keep up the good work

21 of us in a party for dads 80th birthday. Staff were attentive,drinks delivered to tables,which were all socially distanced,but still together. The carvery was brilliant with excellent choice of meat and veg. The children went round the zoo. We have had a fabulous day,and would highly recommend. We will definitely return. The restaurant staff were really welcoming , they tried their best to accommodate the seating arrangement of a larger family. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. We will definitely go again.

We are waking up the morning after the day before. Pete and his team excelled and exceeded all of our expectations. Our wedding plans were heavily impacted due to Covid-19, however Lakeside were able to adapt our plans to ensure that we could have an intimate celebratory meal with our close friends and family.One of my biggest nags when attending other weddings is that you always end up leaving hungry, and I didn’t want this to be the case on our special day. Pete and his team wow’d every guest with the good. From the amazing veg soup starter - perfectly seasoned, down to the chicken supreme for main, finished off with an enormous slab of chocolate fudge cake and cream. We were all bursting at the seams and everybody commented on how amazing the food was. In the evening we opted for good old pizza and chips - and again, everybody loved it.The day went seamlessly from our point of view. We and our guests thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The fact that we couldn’t have loud music or a disco really made no odds to us, this added to the relaxed and intimate feel to the day, and we cannot describe our day anything other than PERFECT. Lakeside really is a hidden gem, Pete and all of his team are fantastic. Wedding, Sunday lunch, visit to the farm and food here, we just can’t recommend this place enough. Thank you all so so much! We attended Lakeside for a small wedding meal yesterday. From the moment we got there the staff were brilliant, all precautions were taken to make everyone feel comfortable and happy. The table service was excellent, quick and super efficient. The food was outstanding, especially the main meal, which was a delicious creamy chicken dish that everyone raved about. Thanks for a brilliant time! We look forward to returning to visit the carvery in weeks to come!

This was a nice location for a funeral of our dear friend, secluded private place to celebrate his life. Friendly and thoughtful staff who went out the extra mile for us!!!

Myself and some friends visited for a Sunday roast and it was amazing as always. The Yorkshire puddings are huge and very tasty, and there's lots of sides to choose from. You also have the option of 4 meats, as a group we tried all of them and had great reviews from my friends too!The meal was made even better with the excellent choice of Spotify playlist too The roast and sides are plated up for you, but you end up with exactly what you want - I even asked for more gravy in the middle of the meal and they brought some to our table which was appreciated We will definitely be visiting again, already looking forward to it :)

Took my daughter for Sunday carvery, was served by the lovely zara who was very helpful.food was delicious.social distancing abided and all guidelines were explained clearly on arrival. Staff were constantly sanitizing the area. Will deffinately return.

Excellent Manager and staff, Superb Chef, food always first class at a very reasonable price. Went to celebrate daughter's graduation, took balloon and cake, when we arrived they had decorated table and sprinkled confetti to match our colour scheme. Covid 19 rules were adhered to excellently, whilst still being able to create a nice atmosphere. We had a really nice lunch, Thank you to all the staff.

We called in for the first time this afternoon while visiting the zoo, food was fairly priced, we had fish & chips... amazing! And the lady serving us 'Holly' was an absolute star! She warmed up my little girls dinner for us that we brought ourselves, provided a childs spoon as i totally forgot to pack one! And offered to wrap any left over up for us as i also forgot a tub! Would definitely recommend a trip!

Me and my partner booked tickets to visit the ponderosa zoo. On the website we were given then option to book a free carvery on site so we adding this to the shopping list.We then confirmed with the restaurant when our slot would be. It did sound too good to be true but assumed it was some sort of promotion to get people in.The service was great, the food was delicious although the turkey was a bit pink. We felt looked after and there wasn't much waiting around so it was a lovely meal.Upon confirming the free carvery booking the waiters were unaware of anything like this. So we ended up paying just under 25 quid for a carvery and drinks for 2 people. This was a bit of a shock as we believed it would have been free given the website booking and email exchanges with the restaurant. However it was just a case of misleading promotion. It's not a free carvery you book onto it's a free carvery SLOT you book onto and then of course you pay. Didn't realise it was such a good thing that you didn't have to pay to book a slot. The restaurant was empty anyway so it wouldn't have made a difference.Please read future promotional material from this restaurant and ponderosa zoo carefully before proceeding.

Our first visit to both Ponderosa and The Lakeside. A couple of hours with the kids around the play parks and animals. Everything was done impeccably and all observed the face asks and one way system.Then we booked into The Lakeside for Sunday lunch - AMAZING PERFECT FANTASTIC what more can I say 4 adults 2 kids and a baby the food was fabulous and all served with a great big smile.Well done everyone

Ponderosa's Lakeside Restaurant has a lovely setting. There is also plenty of parking. The funeral tea we recently held there was organised sensitively and professionally by the staff, and the food was good and plentiful. I would recommend the restaurant to anyone seeking a similar venue.

Lovely carvery! Nice clean place with attentive staff. Food was very fresh and tasty. It’s a hidden gem there’s always people there but it’s never too busy. I had roast beef and lamb and both meats were beautiful the gravy is to die for

We went to the zoo and finished the visit with a visit to the restaurant. It took about 15 minutes for someone to come round to take our drink orders which left us a little optimistic as to whether we should stay! But after that, a lovely lady came round to take our order, checked we could have just a Yorkshire pudding on its own (yes it's a thing guys!!) And gave us lovely service. The food was beautiful and the tea was spot on! The restaurant itself was clean and very well maintained. You can see it's a hot spot for locals. Quite rightly so... The Sunday carvery looked lush! Nice comfortable place. Very friendly staff. Well looked after, and the drinks were reasonable. The carvery was good, choice of 4 meats, and fresh Yorkshire puddings. The veg was fresh and plentiful. Would have given it 5 stars but they were tight with my meat portion.

Booking a place for our extended family celebrations is not easy. Ponderosa Riverside Restaurant fits the bill, plenty of room and a good carvery meal reasonably priced. Obliging Staff and enough room to sit and chat. This was second visit we shall celebrate there again - if they will have us! The children enjoyed a walk in the park by the lake.

What a fabulous experience dinning at the Lakeside Restaurant with our family. From the moment we arrived we were greated by Liam who was so obliging and friendly. We had our 92yr old Nan with us, who is in a wheelchair and she was made to feel so welcome and comfortable by all the staff. The whole restaurant looked so festive and beautiful. The tables were set out perfectly and the children who are 5yrs to 15yrs were all really happy with the crackers sharing their jokes with the staff. Our starters were not rushed to our table which was lovely because we had time for a chat before it was served. All the starters were delicious and so was the carvery which never fails to impress. Pudding was a delight too. Overall we had a fabulous time at the Lakeside and we will definitely be booking again. Thankyou from all of us

Booked our wedding here for 28th december 2019, from that moment of our meeting nothing was too much trouble, we chose here because it was local and we had a large amount of guests, there were so many options to choose from and everyone was happy to help, communication between everyone was on point so when the actually day arrived it was all just perfect, Peter the manager was on hand to make sure everything ran smooth.

Visited lakeside restaurant today for a Sunday carvery with the family. Although it was busy the service received was excellent! The girl that served us (I think her name was Brooke) was lovely, a very welcoming and helpful young lady. Food was delicious, yet well priced, I had the beef which was cooked perfectly! Overall great place for a family Sunday meal, will definitely be back again!

Visited for a carvery a few weeks ago and it was lovely! Cooked to perfection and a very good price. The staff were so helpful, particularly two young girls (I think they said there names were Holly and Brooke) who answered all my requests. Would definitely visit again

Having had a few Christmas party’s here I would definitely recommend, the food, atmosphere, staff and entertainment were all excellent..... booked Christmas Day dinner this year and I’m now really looking forward to it.....

We visited lakeside today for some lunch after a walk around ponderosa. I don’t eat meat or dairy and the staff were able to advise on what I was able to eat from the carvery menu, I usually resign myself to a plate of chips or plain pasta if I haven’t checked the vegan options before hand, but I was able to have a really tasty soup and roast dinner. A perfect venue for your party, lots of fairy lights and a sparkling ceiling, great atmosphere, really great staff who went out of their way to make the evening special. Just wanted to say thank you on behalf of the family to all your staff at my brothers wake yesterday 8.11.19. It all went smoothly and they were very professional. We had our wedding here, I can’t fault one thing! The venue is stunning and really spacious, the food is all home made to a very high standard. We had a sit down meal and a bbq for the evening reception. All our guests were amazed and have all said how nice the food was, and people who hadn’t been before have been back since the wedding for meals.

Liam looked after us at a funeral buffet for my Aunt’s Funeral. Excellent food and service which was appreciated by all.

Just wanted to say a special thank you to Jess in the cafe. Today was the second time we had seen her and I cannot say enough good things about her! She was so kind and caring with my children. In particular my youngest, Alfie, who has autism. We struggle to go out places as Alfie’s anxieties prevent him from doing so. He struggles to make friends and often feels extremely uncomfortable around people. However, Jess was so lovely with him and made him feel really relaxed. She spoke to him about the animals and about the ice cream they sold. People like her are extremely rare, she is a credit to your team Ponderosa.

Shocking food it was cold and didn’t taste nice.There wasn’t much choice and the coke tasted horrible wouldn’t recommend.

The Lakeside Restaurant and conference centre was a great location for our event, the 2 Liams provided excellent support and service, nothing was too much, they were flexible and helpful and ensured we had a successful day. The food was lovely and catered to the different requirements of participants, including gluten free. Very beautiful location and a friendly, professional team.

I celebrated my 60th birthday yesterday at the lakeside all my guests said how beautiful it was the food was lovely but what made it special was the staff they even moved tables for me thank you to all the staff for making my day perfect would highly reccomend

Me and my partner James got married here in August 2019 and it was the perfect venue for the wedding. Peter who is the manager and Wedding Coordinator couldn't do enough to ensure we had the perfect day. The food provided on the day was a BBQ and it was excellent, everybody who attended complimented the high quality of the food. On the day itself, Peter and his staff were friendly, approachable and were all dedicated to ensuring that we both had the perfect day.

We held our Residents' Federation AGM there this week and it was excellent. The buffet lunch prepared by Liam and his staff was delicious, plenty of choice, catered for all tastes. Nothing was too much trouble either. I somehow think we will be returning......!

Got married here on 22nd June 2019. Pete and the whole team was amazing through out it all. Set up the tables exactly how I wanted. Even put my cake together for me. Everything was fantastic. Could not fault one thing. Perfect night. Im a coeliac and they catered for me, the food was beautiful! vegans and veggies was catered for, lactose was catered for with no problems. What can I say!! We had the best day for our wedding on the 25th of May!! All the staff from the start to finish were exceptional! They made everything so easy for us.... we had nothing at all to worry about ! The room was beautiful and everyone complimented the day as a whole!

Well what an absolutely fantastic day we had we couldn’t have planned it any better and I can not recommend a better place to have a wedding and reception, BBQ for main meal was absolutely gorgeous, the setting and everything about it is brilliant, all my guests thought it was fantastic best wedding ever, thanks for making our day just as we wanted it we could have never achieved it with out you all.

Visited the ponderosa lakeside restaurant quite a few times for Sunday dinner and also been to a few parties there .We have always been served great food and been well looked after every time we have visited .Recently I had to arrange a funeral so had no hesitations about asking if the place was available for afterwards which gladly it was.On the day the food and service was fantastic .The staff went above and beyond and every one that came commented on what a great venue it was .

Our first and definitely not last visit to Lakeside restaurant.

First visit to Lakeside Restaurant on Saturday 6th April and was very impressed. Lovely venue set within well tended grounds & overlooking the lake. The staff were very helpful & attentive. Whilst my son & I settled for a hot sandwich apiece the grandchildren had the child's fish & chip meal. The food was well presented, hot & tasty and service was quick. Must admit that taking a look at some of the meals coming out from the kitchen I wish I had ordered something more adventurous (will do next time) Prices were extremely good for the standard of food presented. Anyone thinking of getting married or celebrating a special event really should take a look at this venue. All in all a fab day out at Ponderosa. So much so that the Grandchildren have asked to go back in the near future so another visit to The Lakeside Restaurant is on the cards.

We love the Lakeside restaurant for a Sunday carvery, it's a lovely place to get all the family together. Good service in a family-friendly environment, with hospitable, professional staff. Even the vegetarians feel well catered for with such a delicious choice of vegetables and home made Yorkshire puddings and the desserts are always great too.

My friend and I and our two young children visited the Lakeside Restaurant for lunch while on a day out at Ponderosa and we were very impressed.
