We ordered fish and chips times 2. Our food was served quickly and was hot. To be honest we were expecting it to be better than it was as it's apparently award winning but it was more than acceptable though the entire meal felt a little on the expensive side. Our server seemed under a lot of pressure, maybe they were short staffed that day and it was getting to her. She wasn't rude, but lacked any personal touch which again felt a little disappointing. Would I come back? Yes. Deserves a second chance to see if this was an odd day.

The food was very good, service was excellent, the atmosphere during the day looking out to the bay.

Long day at work, called at Lakeside for some cheesy chips on way home. Got home, picked bag of chips up from car seat, all fell straight through the bottom of the bag all over my lovely clean car, grease and grated cheese alll over the place. Bag had collapsed due to vinegar on chips. Rang shop as soon as I got home. 'What do you want me to do about it' they said! 'I said you tell me', they said you can come back for some more chips that's it!! 'I am not driving all the way back to the shop for chips' I said, 'I'll just put a bad review online', 'ok' they said, end of conversation. Got to clean inside of car tomorrow now as now 8.30pm at night! Grease and cheese everywhere in front!

RUBISH PORTION SIZE AND NO EMPATHY 991712398 BEWARE OF THIS TAKEAWAY!!! IT MAY HAVE WON AWARDS IN THE PAST BUT THE PORTION SIZE HAS REDUCED A LOT. I ORDERED FISH AND CHIPS TO TAKEAWAY, I GOT A LOT OF CHIPS BUT THE FISH WAS MINIATURE, LESS THAN 5" LONG AND ONLY HALF OF IT WAS FISH, THE REST WAS BATTER. I HAVE EMAILED THEM TWICE TO NO AVAIL, NO REPLY. THEY NO LONGER CARE!!! BEWARE

Well ordered a large fish ..only large thing was the box. They don't even ask about salt and vinegar anymore. Fish was ok but wasn't large it was just a normal fish. Won't be going back.

Went sunday for haddock and chips with my mum who's not so nimble on her feet now easy access to the resteraunt, superb service ,coffee was lovely food was superb a big thankyou to the owner who was absolutely wonderful with my mum helping with her getting up out the chair we both thankyou so much wish I could give you 10 stars ,can't wait to come back again ,highly recommended

Purchased two lunchtime meals today and it was absolutely a waste of packaging not even enough to feed a small child very very small sliver of fish hiding in a lump of batter disgusting never again …

Ordered 2 lunch time specials. Wrong fish served, that was changed for haddock. The portions of fish were only 50% of those who had ordered the same. Complained then offered replacement fish that i refused as all our friends had long finished their meals. Asked for some cash reduction which had to be referred to the manager. I offered £10 instead of £15.99. The Manager responded saying he insisted on full payment, otherwise the Police would be called and I would be taken away in the back of a Police car. After 15 mins the Police arrived, much to my surprise. I fully co-operated with them and it was agreed by all for me to pay 50% which amounted to £7.95. I'm staggered the Police arrived over such a trivial matter, just wondering what the manager said about me to get them to visit the restaurant 🤔

Incredibly disappointed when I got home to see my £9 “large cod”, a tiny strip of fish in thick batter. It was even freezing cold inside after only driving 3 mins home and eating straight away. Frustrating as I’ve spent hundreds here over the years but probably won’t be back as I don’t like wasting my hard earned money for poor value

Very Disappointed 😞. We used to visit the Lakeside quite a bit when we lived in the area and then moved further away. My wife said to me the other evening when we were in the area again "why don't we get a Meal at the Lakeside " so we did. Firstly when we arrived, the restaurant was very quiet with only one other person sat in it which was very unusual as it is always used to be busy, something so much you had to wait for a Table ! We sat down to place our order to find that there were No Pie's on the menu any more which rather upset my wife. The food came out and the portions were tiny ! The salad was no bigger than a Tea Spoon, the Fish was half the size to what they used to be and as you probably guessed it, the prices had gone up ! In the past, we used to get Free Bread with the Meal as well - Not any longer ! We then looked around and noticed that some changes had been made to the decoration and we didn't recognise any of the staff from the past so it was clear that it was under New Management which I am sorry to say have ruined what used to be a very good restaurant. When the Bill arrived, I was shocked! For 2 portions of Garlic Bread, Burger, Fish and chips, Ice Cream x 2 and 2 x Soft drinks = £87 !! (£8 of which was added Service Charge!!) We won't be going back - Such ashame.

Customers are well advised on the menu that fish portions are by weight and like us, take that in to account when ordering. Our waitress was very attentive, checking that all was good with our meals. Hubby and I always make the most of it and have the largest piece of fish! I opted for the scrummy crumble and custard as well! Well done Jason and the Team, see you next January, (if not before).

I dine here often and was dinning in the restaurant today with a friend at about 1:30 and as always amazing food / portions, lovely attentive staff especially our waitress I believe her name was Linda, cannot recommend enough

I was one of a party of 20+ people (MX-5 Club), myself and my partner were initially given the wrong fish ( cod instead of haddock) that was ordered from the lunch time Specials priced at £15-95. The replacement meal had fish about 50% smaller than 5 other Club members' meals. I was reluctant to complain until everyone finished their lunch (at no time did staff asked us if the meal was satisfactory). I did call the waitress over and discussed my concern, showing the skin and batter of the fish, when she offered me a replacement which I refused, as we'd all finished eating. I therefore requested a cash reduction and the waitress referred the matter to the Manager. On paying the bill, the Manager insisted full payment and I offered to pay £10-00 which the manager refused. He became aggressive and would call the Police unless full payment was made. Two Police Officers arrived who I fully co-operated with and after detailed discussions with all, it was agreed that the matter would be settled on payment for half price £7-99. The Manager was obviously humiliated by the outcome, also there were mixed views regarding other Members' lunch (portions and sizes). Peter C

Absolutely beautiful haddock, chips and garnish with a pot of tea. Service was superb. Cannot rate this meal highly enough.

I had a small lucntime special it was delicious. I had never been their before and will definitely go back to the restaurant next time.

Rip off , fish tasteless as big as two fish fingers and came with 11 chips, thimble of backed beans and cost £39.98 for me and my wife, would not recommend to my worst enemy.

Ordered a delivery tonight and had several items missing and some part of order delivered was wrong. Called and was told that they would refund missing items but would not deliver them. What’s the point of ordering food as a family to have items missing and you can’t then all eat. The veggie burger was too large for the bun and greasy so fell apart as soon as picked up. Usually a good place but haven’t eaten from here for a while.

Used to love this chip shop rated it as the best one in poole but recently it's gone down the hill and today was the last time for me to get something after coming home and the bottom of the bag swimming in oil chips where slimy and stuck together in 1 big lump. Could not eat it and had enough

Please read whole review. Comfortable venue, nice view excepting (temporary) scaffolding/netting). Good and interesting fishy menu. We shared an excellent crayfish & prawn cocktail…… one of us had an excellent ray wing main…… other ordered the ‘large’ cod & chips. HOWEVER…. it was the small cod & chips served and without the roll….. server f) said she would correct this error and bring over extra fish but this didn’t arrive, neither did bread roll, so after 10 minutes having already eaten rest we said no point in serving it now. We then ordered a lemon & redcurrant sponge as this seemed ‘a little unusual’….. what was delivered didn’t look like the sponge …. no server to discuss with so it was eaten, but was syrup sponge. Server (f) clearing table asked if we enjoyed it, so we very politely and carefully explained the discrepancy between what was ordered and delivered, including - very politely and constructively - ‘you [the restaurant] could do better. The server was abrupt in her response and in our minds rude and abrasive with clearly and bluntly stating “you’re being rude”. At no point did the server (f) apologise for serving the wrong food, nor did she offer any correction. Ultimately, the error could be serious as at no point did the server advise us what was in the dessert or if we had any relevant food allergy or sensitivity - in fact we have no idea of exactly what / ingredients were served. Later a different server (f) apologised on behalf of the first one - sort of good but not an apology from the earlier server (f) which would have had more meaning. We were not charged for the dessert but are left with a very disappointing impression of Lakeside Fish Restaurant and do not feel able to ever return.

Ordered via Uber Eats - excellent!

Having been told about this place by a friend, we were in the area so thought we would give it a try. A warm, friendly welcome was received and promptly the waitress took the food order. I thought the prices were expensive compared with other local fish restaurants (including the Poole Arms), but perhaps the portions might justify this. I saw my wifes dish of Moules Mariniare have it's photo taken several times by the cook/chef before it was served to us. ( perhaps it was a rare occurence ) My cod and chips arrived and appeared to be one half of a small fillet which had been cut lengthways down the centre, more like a childs portion. The portion of curry sauce was also very small, less than half the size you would be served in you average fish and chip shop. Certainly not enough for the duration of the small cod. Due to the size the meal was consumed quite quickly. On paying the bill we noticed a service charge had been added to the already high prices. Well we gave it a fair try but will not be returning. You can find better, larger meals locally for a lot less cost. Supporting photos have been added.

I’m in a wheelchair and when I arrived Natalia showed me to a table and then served me then got my order, and they brought me out my food and drink which was lovely, such friendly staff, and I was as very well looked after until I called a taxi and they had no cars in the area but one car turned up and came in. I refused to get in as he has been rude to me in the past so I called another taxi company and then I waited. lakeside Chip Shop staff looked after me as I had to wait for another taxi to turn up and Chip Shop was also waiting to close to and wait for me to go in the taxi. Thanks very much

Ordered with just eat and food arrived 3 hours after ordering, even though I had asked for delivery at soonest opportunity. Paid £24 to end up with cold fish, chips and onion rings. The shop must have prepared it 2 hours before it was delivered. All in all a very poor service.

Lovely place that serves lovely food. The chips remind me of being a kid again, best chips I've had in a long long time. Excellent menu, can't fault this place at all. If you're dining in you get to look at the views of Holes Bay which is a nice view to say the least.

I had read some reviews before going so wasn't really sure if I was going to be slightly disappointed. I had the lakeside all day deal of haddock and chips, one side( I went for mushy peas) a drink ( I had 1/2 cider) and a choice of tea or coffee. This was £17.95. The service was excellent! lovely staff. The batter on the fish was the best I have had years. My husband had ray wings which were cooked perfectly. Looking at the photos the portion might seem small but the plates are very large.

Love it, everything was fresh and reasonably priced.

I've scored this a 3 as although the food was tasty and nicely cooked, I was surprised at the cost of the sides to the very small portion size we had for mushy peas and curry sauce. ( not much bigger than a small ice cream scoop ) The rolls with butter were £1 each and they are the part-baked small dinner rolls that you would have with soup. The rolls had clearly been reheated after already been baked as they went hard. Not suitable for a chip buttie or even the meal The 10% discretionary service charge was not pointed out to us & I didn't see it on the menu. Such a shame as have been here a few times before

I enjoyed a lovely, generous lunch with the family. We love seafood and enjoyed skate wings with prawns and capers, sea bass and salmon fish cakes, with plenty of fresh, golden chips. Friendly, efficient service and easy parking on the doorstep.

fish is cooked fresh when it is ordered. the batter is the best crispy batter I have had for a long time. First visit we sat in the restaurant & enjoyed waitress service. my husband had vegetarian burger which he enjoyed. in the restaurant a service charge is added would have liked more vegetarian choice. definitely worth a visit we did go back.

On our way back to London from Dorset and came across this lovely chippy. The fish was soooo soft, fresh and flakey, the batter was crispy and light and not greasy at all ! Chips were also super fresh and really crispy just how I like them. Home made tartare sauce was also great and we loved the gherkins :) Thanks so much !

I have always liked fish and chips once a week, and have started using Lakeside in the last few months after recommendations. The portion sizes have always been reasonable especially the chips, but tonight will be the last time I go there as tonight fish and chips were like a childs portion. I realise things are getting more expensive but there is no excuse for the measly meal I got served tonight.

We ordered a takeout and it was delicious. The fish and chip supper was how you would expect. Crispy batter and hot steamed fish underneath. The chips were very good too. We collected them from the restaurant and even after a journey down to the sandbanks area to eat whilst the sun set, the food was absolutely delicious.

Been going there for about 9 years. Not just a fish restaurant...good selection on menu. Last time I was in there for lunch it was almost full...so I'd book in advance...

What a spectacular setting for an evening meal - fish based, of course, and with great service. Nice choice of wines and bottles ales. The front door of the venue has a steady stream of take-away customers and just down the side of the counter is a superb spacious dining room overlooking Holes Bay. Still providing a top quality dining experience, two year on from my first visit.

Staff need to try and smile NOT dog friendly. Helped us with a wake. 30 people was not cheap for what we had.

I have visited a few times before and each time is a lovely experience. The food is freshly cooked to order and is gorgeous. Well worth a visit but you should book as it is very popular and you really don't want to miss out.

Started going there instead of other chippy places in Poole, they have the best cheesy chips without a DOUBT. The portion sizes for a large (£5) is amazing value. Just stop going to other chippies and just use Lakeside, proper quality

Fantastic place! The service was great and the food was impeccable and worth the cost. There are great views if the scaffolding wasn’t around. There is a discretionary 10% service charge here as they come and serve you.

Absolutely fantastic chippy. Beautifully polite young lady serving Spotlessly clean establishment Food looked and tasted great . Great portions, served in nice thick paper bags ., the food wasn't greasy And price was also very reasonable. Oh and they also cater for ceoliacs with a gluten free menu . . Absolutely gorgeous fish and chips

Used this fish & chip take away many times and have found it is deteriorating each time. The chips used to be lovey & fresh generous portions but the last few times & especially tonight very poor. Chips were barely warm and over cooked( just as well the portion was tiny) the fish batter was tough, not light & crispy, with more batter than fish. As a footnote maybe get some staff that at least look like they enjoy their job!

Used a groupon voucher, £17 for 2 fish and chips, which apparently would have cost £48???! Deal included tea or coffee, and the restaurant refused to put the amount tea would cost towards a glass of wine. Why? Food was pkay, certainly wouldn't have paid full price though.

Restaurant part is really good and has a great view to the harbour. Staff is very attentive and food is tasty. Really worth visiting, recommend it.

Best fish and chips in the area

We found this through reviews, and it didn't disappoint. The portions were very good. Kids' meal choices were great and a very good portion. The Haddock was very crispy. The food was hot and tasty. If we ever visit Dorset again, we will come here again. Views of the water were lovely.

Normally fantastic fish and chips but today a portion of chips was not up to the usual standard,dried up,small scraps and not as tasty. Possibly reheated from yesterday as we were there before 12 o clock. As always service good! Hoping this is a one off!

Great food, lovely fish as always

Bill for fish and chips and drinks x 4 came to £80. The chips were flat, wrinkly and may well have been kept warm for some time. I wonder if traditional "chippy" chips aren't a bit archaic in this day and age when even a modest eatery boasts "triple cooked chips", which at least have some substance and shape. Back in the day we have come here for dinner with friends...on the basis of this last meal I don't think that is likely in the future.

I’ve been to the restaurant and takeaway many times. I usually love their ray wing and chips. Last night had both again. The chips I think had probably been served up way before the fish was cooked as they were soggy, not very hot and literally only a handful of chips (we ate them in the car park so they hadn’t travelled far!) I was charged £13.95 for half a ray wing with not much fish attached. Shame on you Lakeside - last time you put this right but you’re still charging full amount and only handing out half a portion. At £17.90 for a takeaway this was extortionate for the amount of food given. I’ve given you a chance in the past but no more; I won’t be returning.

Found this chip shop today looks clean and tidy I had savaloy and chips and my wife had battered jumbo and chips they absolutely perfect.. Will use again when next I poole.

The takeaway was busy, the queue was chaotic because there wasn't enough room for everyone to wait, and orders came out in a random order. My mother and I placed our orders one after the other and she had hers a good 10 minutes before me. While I was still waiting, her food was going cold in the car 😞

Small portions of fish, muddly staff. Our organiser had to pay a deposit, and it was a nightmare getting them to account for it and sorting the bill out. We demanded that they remove the automatically applied service charge. Make your own minds up!

Tried their fish and chips butty at £4.95, whilst it tasted nice it was designed for someone with 3000 staples to their stomach! 11 chips within the roll and the smallest tail offcut of fish you could imagine, it wouldn't have filled a 5 year old up, for taste, it would be a relatively high score, for portion size, value for money a 1 out of 10 is being very generous. Immediately drove home and had to start cooking as this only filled up my left toe! 11 chips! Really! Very disappointed with the value here

Visited here many times on the way through to my in laws from London. This Friday was no different. It was busy as all fish and chip shops are on a Friday. Ordered nothing out of the ordinary however, it took over 30 mins for my order with everyone who ordered after me getting served before me including special orders. Upon arriving at our destination we found one of the items missing. Calling them they suggested I retuned to collect this. Great but it’s a 30 minute round trip. I asked for a refund and they refused. Not very happy. Someone went without dinner on Friday. Time to find another chippy for these occasions

Best fish and chips in the area by a mile.

Eating in the restaurant has a great view across the water. Worth going in for that. Food is freshly cooked although you don't get much for your money. I'd recommend adding some side orders to bulk it out and extra portion of chips as you get hardly any. I'd say less than a childs portion. Cost us £65 for 3 of us with a soft drink each which against the Italian restaurant the night before which was only £55 and much better value. Chips isn't a cheap meal anymore I guess. We all left Hungary so bought snacks from Asda over the road to take home. I think your better off going for the takeaway if you want to fill your boots. Only use the restaurant if your wanting the dining experience. Not sure if id go back. Reviews don't match our experience hence a 3. We probably caught them on a bad day. It happens. Don't be put off. Give it ago.
