Ancient pub in Poole, in wood and stone, very characteristic. We assume that at least part of it was a former church. very impressive, we drank a good £5 beer. Recommended for the atmosphere

I recently visited the King Charles in Poole, and I can confidently say it’s a gem of a local pub! The venue itself has a fantastic atmosphere, blending traditional charm with a modern touch. It’s the perfect spot to relax, whether you’re catching up with friends or enjoying a quiet evening. The drinks selection is impressive, featuring a wide variety of local ales and craft beers. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to recommend something new to try. I loved sampling a couple of their rotating guest ales—each one was better than the last! As for the food, it was absolutely delightful. The menu offers a great mix of classic pub favourites and contemporary dishes, all beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. I tried the homemade pie, and it was one of the best I’ve had—perfectly flaky crust and hearty filling. The King Charles is a must-visit for anyone in Poole. The combination of a welcoming atmosphere, great drinks, and delicious food makes it the ideal place to unwind. I can’t wait to go back!

Saw sign outside saying best crab in Dorset so thought that's worth a visit . That was not the case probably should have realised that because everywhere else was full and we were the only people in this pub. Ordered crab salad and seafood platter . Both extremely disappointing , crab hardly visible a few flecks of white meat on some vey slimy brown ! Seafood platter obviously frozen deep fried rubbish with small bowl of fries . There are lots of nice places to eat in Poole this is not one of them !

Found this little gem whilst strolling along the quay and deciding where to go, so glad we chose this pub. The interior classic, the staff helpful and pleasant, plenty of choice for drinks. The food was excellent, well served well presented, best fish cakes I have tasted. Hubby had the scampi and again very pleased. This is a true gem of a find and completed a lovely holiday in Dorset.

Didn't try food can't comment. It's a pub. Doesn't try to pretend to be anything more than it is.a place for adults to go and have a few beers and a chat. I had visited with a large group upstairs and had a great meal. On this experience I took my partner out for dinner. The fresh mussels were stale and had a strong smell. The fish pie was dry. We did not eat most of our food . On mentioning our dissatisfaction with the food the lady behind the bar said the mussels are fresh every day and offered no apologies. I have been a high end chef all my life owning my own Michelin restaurant for many years. So I think I can judge good food from bad. NB to owner on average 10 people are told of a good experience and 50 people are told of a bad experience. I have recently moved to the area and will be telling all my friends and neighbours!

Had passed the pub a couple of times , menu looked appetising, looked at the pub reviews online , so my wife and I decided we would try an evening meal . On entry you get the feeling of an old traditional tavern , Two lads behind the bar didn’t seem very welcoming , ordered our meals , soup of the day came with what was supposed to be croutons , absolutely tasteless and croutons were torn up pieces of bread, my wife ordered a prawn cocktail , that was fine . I then had smoked haddock fish cakes for a main with peas and fries , one of the fish cakes was rock hard , the peas looked like they were over done in a microwave , fries were lukewarm,my wife had a rack of ribs tasted like they had come from a local frozen food shop , again with fries that were Luke warm . The tables are sticky as hell . So disappointed as the majority of reviews were favourable, would never recommend for food , good ales though .

The first evening we popped in just for drinks. The atmosphere was buzzing and the beer was great, The service was a little grumpy. The second evening we went in for dinner; service excellent, beer still good and most of the food was OK. The waitress didn't come and ask if our food was OK until she cleared the plates, by which time it really is too late to complain. We mentioned the chips were cool and she said she would tell the chef. We went to the bar to pay, no apology and no discount. I would go back as I think it was partly our fault for not complaining soon enough, but we were too hungry and too lazy to wait for the chips to be reheated.

So sad. Great building and location, but the food and drink let it down. I’m afraid that we have to say the food was lukewarm at best and not what we would call obviously locally sourced and freshly cooked (as was claimed). Make of that what you will. The beer almost tasted watered down and the whole place was empty when the Quay front was jumping with loads of people around. Should’ve guessed really that this gave away the appeal of the place. It was so bad, we didn’t finish and scooted off and ate somewhere else ( not wanting to make a scene). It could really be something, but alas wasn’t. 😞

An average pub with a pleasant atmosphere. The food can be hit and miss—I’ve had both good and bad experiences. One dish I’d definitely avoid is the macaroni cheese. What I find frustrating is the lack of clarity around food service hours. Too many times, I’ve walked there with my dogs, sat down, only to be told the kitchen is closed or there’s no chef available. It would be helpful if the pub clearly displayed its food service hours somewhere visible to the public. I checked now and couldn’t find any information other than they are open to 11PM.

Ordered a delivery tonight and had several items missing and some part of order delivered was wrong. Called and was told that they would refund missing items but would not deliver them. What’s the point of ordering food as a family to have items missing and you can’t then all eat. The veggie burger was too large for the bun and greasy so fell apart as soon as picked up. Usually a good place but haven’t eaten from here for a while.
