A lovely restaurant with great views but poor customer service . Ordered a portion of chips and I was surprised that the plate of chips were allowed to leave the kitchen as they were over cooked . Looked like they had been cooked twice. When they were bought out to me the waitress didn’t ask if I wanted condiments or knives or folks . I had to go in and ask for these and I was told they were by the door . I don’t mind grabbing my own condiments but it was just poor service .

Lovely views and scenery. Gentle walks. Great for couples, kids and family. Some paths accessible for disabled. As is cafe and outdoor decking area. Met friends and took a short walk through the mature wood and surrounding meadows. Benches to stop and rest and the large sundial is not only beautiful but functional and educational too. Some lady areas for kids. Great for family and pets. Wild orchids for those that know their plants and flowers and in the distance the water activities such as kite and wind surfing. Or just sit and take in the fresh air. Lots of space for everyone. Didn’t get to explore it all in one visit. We stopped in the cafe, food was nice and hot. Lovely side salad. Reasonably priced. Good sized portions. Car park is accessible for camper vans and tourers. £2.50 for a couple of hours. £5 all day. Plenty of parking. A first time visit. Would most definitely return.

Arrived at 10am. Very quiet about 6 customers. Very slow service on counter to order a tea, iced latte and teacake. But it could have been his first day,so I went with it. Moved along and asked would they bring drinks over and told by the girl in no uncertain terms we had to wait for our drinks. Sat outside and the view was delightful. Still waiting for teacake after 40 minutes!! I asked for a refund, they told me they had lost order. One other person was eating. Used to be so much better. Such a shame, but they need better staff training

Situated very close to the Devon / Cornwall border so you can have your jam over the cream or cream over the jam on a fresh baked scone or as I did one of each yummy. Very nice cafe, very clean and staff very polite. Only bad side is the parking charge, only £2.50 at time of review, don't these water companies earn enough without having to screw pensioners and the hard pressed, no concession for the disabled either. If you try to use the parking App displayed on the board you will be disappointed as no signal, also the machine rejected my money, but the young lady in the cafe was pleased to take payment, seemed a bit miffed when I asked for the receipt. Best keep all parking receipts these days with too many Dick Turpin Car Parking companies just waiting to pounce on the unwary?

Good coffee & cake, but unbelievably slow service for a meal. Ordered Chilli & veg curry @£12 each - took OVER AN HOUR to bring out . Curry tasty but very small portion, missing the garnish, naan hard & crispy. Icing on cake was the rice drowned in smoked paprika (WHY!!) which made virtually inedible.

This is a cute little cafe, but the service is so slow which lets it down. I waited 25 minutes just to order a coffee because of the queue, and only one person taking orders. Brought my elderly father here for a walk, for the first time since we have been coming this summer there was no queue for the ice cream, hurrah! But then disappointed, they cost £2.70 which I think is a bit inflated to begin but would have been acceptable if it had been a reasonable size, but was given a very small scoop. If he does have to work alone I'd suggest maybe having a few more outside bins and more toilet roll in the toilets as it is just too much of a job for one person to keep on top of with so many visitors. We were really pleased with the service and are coming back again!

Twenty of us had reserved a private room for our Xmas Lunch, which overall went very well. Having first enjoyed a cup of tea/coffee in the cafe area (c/w log burner) we moved to the function room where we had plenty of space and a lovely view of the lake and its surrounding countryside through the picture windows. For the money (2 or 3 courses available for £19.50/£24.95 per person), I'd say the experience was good value for money. Food was OK with a varied selection of vegetables and a generous helping of meats. Starters and desserts were served at the table by the very friendly and helpful staff and at no time did we feel rushed. A bar was also available to order drinks. The overall winning element though has to be the location, with its fabulous views. On a warmer day a post lunch walk would also have been nice, but we chose to stay in the warm on this occasion!

The cakes/desserts are a delight, the few meals on the menu are large and freshly cooked plus the staff are friendly and helpful, so what more can you ask for?.....well if anything perhaps a few more meal choices (Quiche sells out far too quickly!). We love this cafe and go there as often as possible - some friend's we took there loved it and said it was the best dessert they had eaten in years so now they drive there regularly from Truro! Lovely setting for an after lunch walk around the lakes, and I really like that they support a local cat charity - their little charity shop is great for picking up some great little bargains!

Have not used the cafe for a long time. Took the dogs for a walk through the woods and stopped for a cup of tea outside on the benches as dogs not allowed inside. The 3 dogs did not bark, howl or make any noise. They were tied to the bench. You would not have even known they were there unless you came around the side of the table. One of my dogs jumped up and sat beside me. Not on the table and no feet on the table. I sat there holding her. (Size of a large jack Russell)The chef came out and rudely said dogs were not allowed on the "furniture". I got her down and she sat patiently on the floor again. The table next to me had been dirty with cups and plates for at least 20 to 30 minutes during this time as the people had left. The chef did not attempt to remove said dirty crockery where the birds were landing and sitting on them. Possibly messing on something people eat from. The lady behind the counter however was very nice and polite and came out to clear the table. Daisy then jumped up and sat beside me again, within seconds the chef was out and again was extremely rude. The cafe was not busy in the slightest and I can understand why. It's a shame as a lovely spot. I think someone from South West Lakes needs to visit places like Cardinham Woods and Fingle Bridge where they are extremely dog friendly and also very busy. Maybe a clue there?? I understand not everyone likes dogs, but we were outside and not causing any trouble what so ever. Shame on you South West Lakes as that is the last time I will visit.

Had a lovely stroll around the lake after an initial coffee in the cafe, at which time one of the lady waiting staff made a narky comment in front of customers about the young man serving when he was unsure which table he was to be delivering drinks to. Unnecessary and unprofessional - then returned after our walk as very hungry and thought we’d try again. Food was actually really nice and served quickly however being confronted loudly in the restaurant with ‘’are you table 14’’ when we were never told our table number didn’t make it very relaxing when we’d offered to move to the neighboring table as we had 3 of us on a table better suited for a later family arriving with 5 people. Unfortunately this time around another lady on the front of house team made a remark about the speed of the young man dealing with the drinks. Also quite rude and unprofessional. Impressed with vegan options. Very tasty. Both food and drinks were nice however due to service we won’t be returning any time soon.

In addition to this there is a £2 parking fee which goes towards maintaining the grounds. My wife just had beans on toast but my sausage roll was very disappointing. What a way to finish a walk around the scenic and quiet Roadford Reservoir on a lovely sunny autumn day but to pop into the Lakeside Cafe for a Cream Tea (or in our case a Cream Lunch. Big pot of tea, 2 scones each, a pot of Jam each and a large pot of clotted Cream each. The big bonus from our point of view were the Gluten Free Scones that were on available. These are normally available but it is an idea to check before visiting. My Wife said that these were the best she had! I understand that they are made on the premises. Our only minor complaint would be that perhaps a second jar of jam could be provided to go with the two scones.
