Lake Raj in South Lakeland

Went here for a takeaway dinner we had the mix tandoori firstly you don't get rice,sauce or nan bread only a tray off food .Hardly enough to feed 1 person the quality of food very average and very bland .

It was a delicious meal and the service was excellent! Authentic Indian and Bangladeshi food. Now I’m really full and I don’t need to eat dinner anymore! Thanks for making me saving money on dinner!

We came on a short family break to Windermere and decided to go to Lake Raj based on their excellent reviews. The staff were friendly, welcoming and relaxed. The food was excellent, nicely presented and served in good time after ordering. We will definitely come back to Lake Raj if we come back to the Windermere area.

Pulled up to the restaurant and we were very happy to find a public car park just outside. Decided to go for a mid-week curry to avoid the busyness of the weekend trade. The restaurant was half full and we were welcomed by the staff who made some very good suggestions on what dishes to try. They had good vegetarian and vegan options on their menu. We started with the customary pile of poppadoms with dips which were very nice. They were generous with dips - which is rare in my experience of Indian restaurants. I went with the suggestion of trying a medium-hot curry for a change (pathia) and my partner went with a classic masala. Both were bursting with flavour and had the perfect balance of spice, heat, and sweetness. We ordered a bread each - I went for the vegan option which was a roti, and my partner ordered a spinach naan after being recommended it by one of the waiters. Both breads were perfectly cooked and were very generous in size. They were light, bubbly, soft in the middle and crispy on outside - something that is so hard to come by. We ordered a side of cauliflower Bhaji and shared a vegetable rice. Both were delicious and we were very impressed that they offered to make the rice vegan. Everything tasted so unique and it was nice sharing the different dishes and moping up all of the delicious sauces with our breads. If you’re in Windermere, I would strongly recommend you give this place a go. We will definitely be going back.

Lovely meal, spot on service, friendly staff. We will definitely return. It looks a bit dated from the outside and could do with a spruce up but looks beyond that and you will have a great meal.

Came here for a meal as a family of 4 and we all really enjoyed it. From the onion bhajis and poppadoms to the curry, rice and naan breads. Wouldn't hesitate to head back. Also plus is it's larger than a lot of the small boutique places so much easier to get in.

Unfortunately i was looking forward to a delicious dinner in an authentic restaurant. The food was not very tasty and it was very poor quality. The waiter was vey kind however it unfortunately didn’t make up for the lack of taste in the food offerings.

Takeaway - not recommended. The starters were terrible value in terms of quantity (i.e. the listing for samosas is just 2 tiny samosas), and the onion bhajis were inedible (overcooked and chewy). The madras was all heat, no actual flavour. The bhuna sauce was very tasty but the small amount of meat in there was tough. Even the naan was stale. Really disappointing. Maybe the quality is better if you dine in the restaurant, but I can't imagine the portions being different?

Wow not only is Raj the nicest most professional person I have met but the food is the best ever! My husband, mum and I will be coming back to stay in a hotel just to visit this amazing place! We have been 3 times over Christmas and we don't want to leave the lakes to go back to Yorkshire mainly because of this restaurant! We highly recommend! Thank you so much for you hospitality! We already cannot wait to return!

Food brilliant, price decent. The only thing that bothered me was there wasn't enough staff for how busy it was. We arrived at 7.30 and it was packed. It's only small so that's fine. There was a table that wasn't cleaned away the whole time we was there. If your always that busy, why not get another member of staff to clean the tables? Other than that, the guy who served the food was brilliant
