This is a restaurant we have used for years and it never lets you down. The food was at least as good as ever on this latest visit and every dish we had was delicious. They do a very good draft lager but the House red wine could be better. From a food point of view, the king prawn nihari was outstanding. We have this dish just about every time we come and it really is top class. The Tarka Dal was also great along with the chicken in mincemeat and the chilli chicken as well. The restaurant itself is done out beautifully andhas a lovely atmosphere. The service is so attentive and friendly. I would definitely advise booking in advance these days.

On entering the restaurant around 5.00pm there was only one other table in use. This should have triggered alarm bells, unfortunately, we ignored this and took a seat. We ordered a pint of lager and a lime and soda. The waiter opened a mystery can behind the bar and served the lager with a huge head in a nice clean glass. I've no idea what the lager was, but it was cold and it hit the spot. The soda was flat and the lime stingy, but it was cold; my partner isn't one for complaining so I didn't. We ordered four papadums with the usual accompaniments. These arrived very quickly and were far from fresh. I'd imagine they were what remained from the previous service and the restaurant was applying its waste not want not policy. The onions were as I'd expect, the chutney, although described as mango contained no pieces of fruit and was obviously well watered down. The yoghurt dip was reasonable and edible but no more than that. The actual papdums were slightly soft in the middle, but we were both famished so we ate them anyway. We ordered a chicken Madras with pilau rice and a lamb Bhuna wth the same. We also ordered a plain naan between us. Our food arrived a short while later, although they had forgotten one of the small pots of rice. I'd have expected such a tiny order to have arrived complete but never mind. The waiter initially told me that I had only ordered one pot of rice, but after a brief discussion with a colleague managed to fulfill out order. The chicken was obviously pre-cooked and tough as old boots, the sauce had a hint of a kick to it, but in all honesty was no better than something you'd buy in a tin from a discount food retailer. The lamb was overcooked and tasteless, the bhuna sauce looked the part but was actually quite bland and wholly disappointing. If this is the level they are at with only five clients in the restaurant I'd hate to see how low it goes when the place gets busy. There were five staff members hanging around the restaurant, maybe they need to find themselves a decent cook, the one they employ was obviously either very inexperienced or just very bad. We paid the thick end of fifty pounds for this meal. I would have valued it at less than a fiver apiece, it really was so bad. We will not be visiting this place again, its decent reviews were obviously earned quite some time ago!

We’ve been coming here for years and we’ve never had a bad experience. The service is excellent and the food is wonderful. It’s a traditional Indian restaurant - and a very good one.

Simply the best indian food we have had in years. Tables spaced apart and nicely decorated. Staff are very friendly and prices are reasonable. What more could you ask for?

You'd think after visiting this restaurant, as long as we have (ever since it opened in fact) we might be getting a little bit bored with it. Nothing could be further from the truth as it has improved over the years and it is good as it's ever been just at the moment. we booked online just to be on the safe side as it is getting more and more popular and we were seated nicely in a booth. From the moment we arrived. The service was friendly and efficient and the menu extremely interesting. We always have the chicken nihari as that is an absolute favourite, but the lamb with lentils was also brilliant , as was the king prawn Jalfrezi. The portions are of a decent size and it is good value for money. The fact that there is a pub 30 seconds away means you can call in for a drink before or after your meal and make it a complete evening. Lots of free parking close by as well.

Tried a lot of Indian restaurants in Bolton and keep coming back to the Lagan on Ladybridge the food is excellent every time and the staff are great

I cook a lot of Asian recipes and am difficult to please. Myself and three other Friends were staying in a local hotel and found Lagan on the internet. The food was stunning. We all had different dishes. My Lamb Vindaloo was superb and the Chicken 'Indiana' starter had a mustard twist in the marinade. Very nice. We all had a great meal, in a relaxed environment and we left replete and very content. Will definitely be back.

Went with friends early on a Friday evening so it was virtually empty. We were off to see the football so just had mains but they were all really tasty; Korma, Vegetable Biryani, Chicken Madras and Tikka with sides of dhal and saag aloo. Beers washed everything down. Prices were reasonable too and service was excellent. Not a place you’d pass by as it’s in a housing estate but a good destination.

We visited for the first time after hearing good reviews, however we were disappointed. The food was very ordinary, my curry was actually quite bland. The service was slow and without much of a smile. For the price we paid I would have expected a lot better. The atmosphere was spoiled by a large family group who were extremely loud, a number of drinks had clearly been consumed before they even arrived. I think the management needs to think about allowing people into the restaurant who are obviously drunk as it spoils the night for everyone else concerned!

It was nice and quite atmosphere. The service was really good. The food was really good only thing was I ordered a paneer sizzler and was disappointed that it came on a cold plate this was not what was advertised.

Hi, ordered 2 dishes, both should have been different - korai and jalfrezi. It was clearly the same curry with a cinnamon stick thrown in the korai. Curry should never be meat thrown in some of the the vat of curry base and chilli powder … this was… it was terrible. It also looked like dog food. Pale brown gunk with a few chunks of meat, like you took a can of stewing steak and threw in chilli powder. Rice was excellent, qudos to the chef??? Seriously, sack the chef this was a joke. Are take always contracted out to someone else as the photos vs reality are pretty funny guys…. See you never again like most customers I imagine

We have been visiting this restaurant for the last 20 years. It is always amazing fantastic food and fabulous pleasant service. Nothing is ever to much trouble.

We have been using this restaurant for longer than I care to remember and love it. It is a really friendly place that provides a high level of them food and service.The menu is really varied and some dishes you don’t see anywhere else. The nihari is a standout and we always order this one when we go. They do Indian lager on draft and have a good wine list. The prices are very good as well.It is handy that it has a good pub next door as well as you can pop in there for a drink before or after your visit. There is lots of free parking around the restaurant.

Takeaway December 18. Papadoms disgusting, rubbery and oily. Curries bland, biriany bland no taste what so ever. Will not be returning. Threw 80% of the food away.

I ordered a Lamb Rogan Josh, it had no flavour at all! Not spicey, not tomatoey, it just tasted of butter and was quite greasy. The lamb pieces were the smallest bits of meat I've ever had in a curry. Very disappointed after all the good write ups. Portions were small too. Def' will not be gping back. Pavilion on Blackburn road wins hands down, never had a bad meal there.

We have been coming here for many, many years and it never disappoints. Great friendly service, reasonable prices and fantastic food. Lamb Karai is a favourite cooked in an authentic Karai dish, last time we tried a new dish Chicken Nehari which was fantastic...so good we ordered an extra one!! Nan bread cooked in the Tandoor was very crispy and fresh. Great wine list at reasonable prices. Love this place and get there or at least get a takeaway every week. Thanks guys.

we went out for our Friday night curry to the Lagan, On arrival we where shown to our table by the owner he extremely nice man very friendly and nothing is too much trouble, he brought the menu and the drinks follow just as swiftly.

Having been visiting this restaurant for over 10 years now, it still remains our favourite. The food is consistently good, and the staff are very friendly and welcoming-particularly Raj, the owner. They have just put some new dishes on the menu, and we can highly recommend the Indiana dish. It is full of flavour. We had it as a starter, but it is also available as a main course. I followed this with the Chicken chilli patari, which is spicy, and full of flavour, but not too hot. My partner had another new dish-the mustard chicken, which is also very tasty. We shared a Bangla rice (rice,chick peas, chilli), a bhindi bhaji, and a garlic and coriander naan, and it was all polished off, with nothing left. We are lucky to be able to travel the world, and we try Indian restaurants wherever we go, but none will beat The Lagan.

The Lagan is one of the best hidden treasures!!!! Don’t be put off by its outside appearance. Inside you’ll find a warm and friendly welcome accompanied by some of the finest food I’ve had for a long time. The Naga Chicken is sensational and well worth a try. This is a long-standing favourite of ours and maintains a really high standard. It is ideally situated in the middle of Lady Bridge and has a really good pub next door as well.

Been coming here a few years now & never had a bad meal. The staff are pleasant & friendly and will do anything to make your visit pleasurable. The food is fantastic and fairly priced. Have tried mangrove in westhoughton and would not go back, no comparison to the lagan.

Very good food, been going for years. Due to its location, middle of Ladybridge estate, tends not to be overly busy. This is a shame because the food is excellent and it’s easily overlooked.

Only just a 3 star. Really friendly staff. Meal was 'Ok'. The pilau rice was very plain and tested more like boiled rice. I had chilli Peter lamb. The sauce was quite nice but you could tell the lamb hadn't been cooked in any sort of curry sauce and that the sauce had just been poured over the meat. Ok but only 'Ok'.

Not a bad curry house but keep away from the chicken dishes as ive just been I had chicken jalfrezi and the chicken wasn’t great atall but the lamb was fantastic, also make sure you go after a few hours it’s been open so it’s all ready warmed up inside as I was the 1st and only person in there it wa freezing

Although we have been using this restaurant for years and years now it is still as good as ever. Many people use it as a takeaway but we tend to go for a beer in the pub next door first and then for sitdown meal.

La comida es fantástica, a un precio razonable y el caballeros que sirve la comida es amable. Si quieres cara pompousness, este no es el lugar para ti. Si quieres una comida fantástica sin gastar más de la cuenta, no puedo recomendar Lagan lo suficiente.

I was recommended a new dish which was on the new Lagan menu... and I have to say hands down, the lamb Kufta blew me away! Best curry I have had in a long time! Highly Recommended!

Ate here one sunday with a friend and we ordered from the special sunday set menu for around £12-13. Portion sizes were good and the food was fantastic. The lamb tikka was the standout and definately worth going back for.

This is the second time we have visited Lagan and every meal was excellent, great value in portion size and cost and the drinks were fairly priced too. The pickle trays and poppadoms are generous, (other Indian restaurants have started using tiny square pots which never have enough in them) The service was good and left overs were taken home packed carefully for us. We were pleased to see hot trays for the food and hot cloths at the end of meal which we have noticed in other Indian restaurants are now missing. There were no orange slices though to end but we think that this has been the best all round meal for three in Bolton this year. We would like a bit more lighting as it does seem a little dim for us and that would be the icing on the cake. Thank you Lagan we will be back.

The food has always been fantastic, but the new menu adds some amazing flavours. I chose the mustard fish curry which was a revelation. As usual the staff are very accommodating and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble and Lagan genuinely deserves a high rating. Try it out, you won't be disappointed!

Eaten at Lagan quite a few times over the years and also used the take out service. Have never been disappointed with the food or service. Called in for a late Saturday night meal with my sisters. There were several tables of diners who obviously knew each other so quite a 'lively' atmosphere which was fun. If you like a Diet Coke then I would ask for a bottle as the drink that came to the table didn't go down well, but was changed no problem at all. I tried a spicy chicken breast which came with a bowl of lentil sauce and some very fresh side salad, it was a Lagan special dish on the menu. All our food was hot, perfectly spiced and presented. Would suggest a menu should be uploaded somewhere, maybe the Facebook page for prospective diners. Staff were all very friendly and helpful as usual

Perhaps becuse it is in an estate away from other nightime attractions, but the food is very decent Indian.The pappadoms, starters and main course were, as always, excellent.The staff are very attentive and it dinner was at a respectful pace.They deserve to be full more often!

Had a few friends over, all of which fancied a quiet night in. Decided to make an order for delivery from the Lagan. Quality. Each and every one of my friends really enjoyed it and were surprised they hadn't heard of it before as they don't live too far away from the Ladybridge area. Wanted the food as soon as, and the gentleman on the phone said it should be with us in 40-45mins. I received the food in 35. Keep up the great work Lagan.

I haven't been to The Lagan for a couple of months, due to being so busy. I was pleased that there had been no change, and the food was as good as always. Whatever you choose at this restaurant is always of the best quality, and full of flavour. Raj was as accommodating as ever, and it is always nice to see his smiling face. We visit Indian restaurants wherever we travel, and The Lagan is always highly rated by us. We always return. Highly recommended.

We've been using Lagan in its various forms for well over 20 years now and it makes for a great evening with the Beaumont Arms meaning you can have a beer before / after too.The food has always been of a pretty high standard and I'd say it's probably better than ever just at the moment. The keema mutter (not even sure it is on the menu) is a must have for me and the chicken with spinach really good too.The staff are very friendly and will spice the food up if requested. It won't be long before we are back.

Went out for a birthday meal with large group. Excellent food and service and friendly staff. Reasonably priced but had no soya milk. Very good experience all in all. Will go again. I accidentally left my bag but they phoned up to say they had it.

Me and my mother in law went for a bite to eat on Friday night , was happy with the food and service the staff were very polite ! It was very clean and tidy! The only down side was they should do set meals in the restaurant like they do on the take away menu ! Would def go again considering bookin again for my dad's birthday x

Decided to go out for an Indian and chose the Lagan by chance. Very pleased with the food which was delicious and very reasonably priced. Polite and attentive staff and quick service. It was nice to get a hot towel at the end to clean up as well.Would highly recommend this place.

Rubbish place with rude staff very dirty toilets and the carpets ain't to clean the food was actually ok but what was the kitchen like we don't know

Great food at good prices. This place is a good old fashioned jndian restaurant with no silly modern frills. Very friendly service very interesting menu and favourite options. The hot cloths and after eights at the end of the meal was a great throw back. Just as i like it. Too many indian restaurants nowadays miss the point and have "moved on" but lost a lot of charm in doing so.I recommend lagan for very good food and service

I have been coming to Lagan for many, many years when I come to England to visit my in laws in Bolton. It has been tradition that I arrive from Florida in the morning, sleep, then come down for dinner close to the time it opens. The reason for this is that the food is excellent. I typically have a Mixed Tandoori Grill with a spicy Badami sauce as well as another side of Vindaloo. The rest of my family is thrilled having a Korma, Chicken Tikka Masala, or Chicken Tikka, alongside with super papadoms and chutneys. I can't say enough great things about the food, but then the staff is always superb. This is one of my 'go-to' places in the whole of the UK when I come.

Had the most delicious meal, even though it was a busy Saturday night the staff were still very attentive and were eager to provide the best service possible. I highly recommend the mix shazani dry fry. The dish was spiced perfectly and full of flavour and you also get a curry sauce of your choice with it. Will be returning. Highly recommended.

I came in to the Lagan restaurant with family and friends after it was recommended to us by some of my friends and straight away I realised why they've been regulars here. From the moment I walked in through the front door, I was greeted with such warmth and welcome instantly making me, my family and friends feel comfortable. The soft Indian music went perfectly with our night. Staff were very friendly and cooperative although it was a busy night with take aways flying out and many other tables being present at the time. The food was cooked to perfection, from my chicken chaat starter to my lamb tikka and keema balti and garlic naan main which I highly recommend. It was a successful night with all my family and friends satisfied agreeing that more visits need to be made to this authentic Indian cuisine. People of Bolton, and any other city/town for that matter, you really need to check this little gem of a restaurant out. Highly recommended. Thankyou team Lagan

we went for a family meal the staff where very attentive and the service was second to none.we were shown to our table and the drink order arrived quickly, our starters came the presentation of the food was excellent and the lamb chops just melted in your mouth nice fresh crispy salad superb starter.we ordered four different main meal with mushroom rice /chip/ garlic chapatis put it all in the middle of the table and had a bit of everything fantastic meal.we finished off with the best Irish coffee I had in a long time

We're fans of Lagan and have been going for years, back to it's opening all those years ago. It will be a while before we're back after this last visit. The restaurant itself isnice, the drinks good and the service excellent. The food, alas, was poor.Lamb chops starter were done in a sub Sharwoods manner with a limp salad and no mint yoghurt. The two mains were lifeless and overpowered by chilli powder. We didn't eat one it was so bad and left feeling disappointed.Let's hope the food is improved soon and we can go back as we do like this place and along with a beer beforehand at the vastly improved Beaumont Arms.

There are 6 of us blokes, all but 1 are 60+ (the odd one is 40+). We have been going to this restaurant for at least 10 years on the last friday of every month. Initially we used it because it was nearby, within walking distance, and next to a pub, so we could have a couple of pints before going for our curry. In the beginning it was OK, but not remarkable. Over the years it has changed hands a couple of times, but recently something has happened - presumably a change of owner or chef?, because it has become a really good restaurant. The menu is extensive, with lots of choice and some interesting "specials".The waiters and manager are good at advising you on dishes you don't know, and if you like a particular dish but want it a bit hotter, or not so hot, they will adjust it for you.It always puzzled us that it was not fuller on a friday night, but now it is starting to get more popular, which it should because it's good.I recommend the Lagan Chicken. You can add a sauce of your choice with it!

Seriously didn't know this restaurant existed until 3 years ago when I came across it. This restaurant is fairly priced and the dishes are full of flavour and you get plenty. We've been going to this restaurant for years and it's always been between good and very good. Our recent visit was decidedly average though and Lagan need to up their game. Portions were a bit on the small side and, although my keema main was good, the rest of the dishes were inferior to ones I could make at home.Prices are good as is the service but the food is the most important thing and I hope there's a return to form sooner rather than later.

Last minute visit,but came highly recommended from a friend......We were not disappointed....Varied menu, and chef was quite pleased to cook a dish for one of our party that was not on the printed menu....Mid week,so the place was not "buzzing", but a very enjoyable time, the highlight being the food,of course, which was excellent !

I have been to this Indian Restaurant Twice now and can say its The best curry house by a mile. As soon as you walk in the customer service is brilliant. We Ordered Poppadoms and chutneys while waiting for our starters. The Mixed Starter is very good and they also ask you how long you would like before your main, i like this as i sometimes need at least 10-15 minutes to let my starter Settle. The Lamb Rogan Josh Was Gorgeous I've had that twice now. We got a bottle of Rose (Zinfandel) Which was £15 A Bottle or you can Have house Rose For cheaper. I Was very Surprised that On both occasions the restaurant didn't seem to be busy but i like it that way as we weren't waiting for our food or crammed into a corner. Also when we couldn't finish our mains everything was sealed up in takeaway boxes for us to enjoy later at home. We will definitely Be back :)

Quite simply the best Indian food I have ever tasted. So many Indian restaurants are carbon copies with the same boring versions of bhuna or madras that all taste the same. Lagan dares to be different by actually having distinctive flavours for every dish and trust me I've tasted a lot of them. You can actually taste the freshness of the ingredients. They make a fish curry where you can taste the curry sauce and the fish as separate elements of the dish and the fish is cooked to perfection.The staff are friendly without being overbearing and nothing is too much trouble for them.I have a friend who lives in London who says it is the best Indian restaurant he's ever been to and if it was based down there it would be full every night. Well he's right, so come on Bolton this is on your doorstep make the effort and visit this gem.

I've been going to this restaurant in its various guises for ages and I'm glad to report it's back to it's best.We arrived at 8 o clock on a Saturday and were warmly welcomed into quite busy place. A couple of pints of Cobra and some popadoms got us off to a good start and the extra chillis we requested were brought with a smile. In fact, the service throughout was excellent; friendly, professional and courteous.Our two curry mains were really good with a depth of flavours and good quality ingredients. Washed down with a nice red and accompanied by a spinach side, everything was top quality.

In my opinion the best curry house in Bolton. Prices are reasonable and as you would expect anywhere else. Food is top rate. I have eaten here on hundreds of occasions over the years and I have never once had a bad meal. I do not know of anyone who uses Lagan to have ever experienced a problem. The staff are very helpful, very aware of the menu and extremely polite. They are happy to accommodate for all types of dietary requirements, in particular they are good for people who need to eat Gluten Free foods. The menu is extensive and staff are happy to advise if you are unsure. You can order over the phone and collect. This restaurant is usually very quiet due to location but do not let this put you off, just try it out and spread the word! You will find the Lagan is as good as any of the higher rated Indian restaurants in Bolton, if not (and in my opinion) much better.

Indian food is my favorite by a mile so i have visited a good number of establishments. I must say that Lagan is the best i have tried in a 20 mile radius of Leigh. The staff are very friendly, and you get "space" that you don't find in many places. The food is tasty and not full of salt and the meat is cooked to perfection. I cannot recommend a place to eat more.

Thinking we would try a take away because its local and heard lot of comments,how wrong we were !!the food was bland compared to other indian take aways ive had, wasn't value for money ,and order was wrong ,I did ring to say it was incorrect but to my amasement was told they would sort problems out next time as if id go a second time first time last time.i have been to india twice and much better indian restaurants.if you want a good take away try syds or another choice of restaurant. We have been going to this restaurant for the 11 years that we have lived in Bolton, and the food is consistantly good. Particular favourites of ours are the chicken tikka and keema Balti, and the chicken jhali bhuna. However, whatever you choose, will be full of flavour, and it is guaranteed to be served with a smile, particularly by Raj, the owner. Excellent food, well worth a visit.

This restaurant is a little gem hidden away on ladybridge estate. It is pretty quiet due to location but would be packed if people knew it was there.The service is exceptional! Staff are so polite and make you feel like royalty, doors are opened for you and they are there in a flash when you want them. The restaurant is decorated beautifully with enough rooms between each table which means you get your own personal space, something I think is important.The food is delicious, generous portions, reasonably priced and well presented. I cannot praise the restaurant enough.try it out, it's well worth the visit!
