A great authentic Spanish restaurant just off the Portobello Market. We enjoyed some great tapas which were both generous and tasty. The meatballs were large with a slightly spiced tomato sauce. The chicken crouquets were fluffy inside with a crispy exterior. All this was washed down with a glass of their hose white wine.

We called in here after it was recommended by one of the excellent Spanish food shops nearby. The calamares were excellent as were the albondigas de jamon and patatas bravas. We finished with a large slice of tarta de Santiago which was served with ice cream and really delicious. Very friendly staff and we will certainly be back again when we next have to stock up with Spanish 'goodies'.

We had a lovely lunch at La Plaza. A cosy, warm atmosphere - even when you are sitting outside as we were! It’s a reassuringly old-fashioned tapas restaurant - all the favourites are on the menu, and all are very well done and freshly cooked. Special mention for the outstanding Jamon croquettas, and the wonderfully fresh calamari. We also had a chicken paella - not bad, but not brilliant. The staff were very efficient and looked after us well. A great place got a family get together. The prices are very fair: we ordered many dishes for 5 people and it was around £20 per head, with a drink each. Not at all bad for this very pricey corner of London.

i went to eat paella in this restaurant with friends and i will never go back. I paid £40 for a paella and was to overcooked. all the fish was burned. I called the waiter and said politely, i'm sorry but the food is all burnt, he said, ah won't you take it home? .... I said to him: "Does it look like food to take home?. If my friend and i left the food there is a reason. We only ate rice. After 2 seconds the manager came, rudely replied to me and my friend. the manager treated us as if we were bad people. we did not ask for discounts or anything. ours was just a complaint, which can serve to improve in the future but in this way people will never come back. I'm sorry. he offered us limoncello but we didn't accept it after being treated like that. ours was just a small complaint and stop.We ask for payment and another lady arrives she was all annoyed because i asked for a receipt.

We then had little fish, whose name escapes me but they were great and then came the Paella! I sat directly opposite the kitchen hatch and was able to see the chef preparing food. I saw him scratch his scalp through his hair more than once and proceed to carry on chopping something. The food hatch is a place where people commune with the chef this can also be done over prepared plates of food waiting to be delivered to the tables. The other issue was the waiter he serves tables, takes payment and prepare bills. He has to prepare the bread and bring it to the table in a basket. He does it without ever washing his hands, handling the bread with your naked hands for chopping after you've been to the bathroom is not hygienic. With all that said the food seemed fine. Perhaps ill just wait for the reactions.

With two Spanish establishments side-by-side it was hard to make a choice so we just went into the one with fewer people. We were not looking for anything fancy just a quick meal before heading to the cinema. La Plaza satisfied on that count -- it is hearty, unpretentious and "real" though not spectacular cooking. Most of the cooked tapas comes off the grill so not much can go wrong there. We ordered stuffed mushrooms, grilled sardines, liver and two small lamb chops off the tapas menu -- it was too much food for the two of us.While not a dinner destination -- this is a convenient and inexpensive eatery that attracts a lot of Spanish people.

Tortilla, supposedly a classic Spanish dish, tasted as if it had just been re-heated, certainly wasn't fresh. Not the first time I've eaten something here, and I have always left disappointed. On my last visit I made the shocking mistake of eating again, and I tried a classic Garlic Chicken ("Pollo al Ajillo"). The meat had a slight smell which was off-putting enough. It was extremely dry, as if reheated in a microwave and the sauce was almost clear liquid, without the necessary liaison. Slices of nearly raw garlic and no flavour or seasoning. I returned the dish practically intact. Awful!! Location, ambience and staff all very agreeable…as was the delicious wine.

This restaurant is one of London's hidden secrets. Tucked away in a little square off Portobello Road, it is as if a piece of Spain has been miraculously transported to London. The men is good and varied, and there is a reasonable selection of wines (which aren't marked up as high as some places I could mention). I opted for Pulpo a la Gallega and can happily say I haven't had such delicious octupus since I was in Santiago de Compostela a few years ago, Accompanying this was the most gorgeous chipirones a la plancha, along with mushrooms, pan con tomate and other delicious nibbles. The two chaps in our party having eyes somewhat bigger than their tummies opted for a main course of merluza. As their eyes were definitely larger than their tums, I ended up assisting. Again, I haven't had fish this good since I was last in Spain. The ambience and the service were good and I would highly recommend this place, especially given that the helpings of tapas are huge compared with other places! Only one disappointment and that was that I had set my heart on baby eels, but presumably they'd slithered off to the nearest spa as none were available! All, in all, a smashing place to eat.

We went on a fairly quiet Monday lunchtime and sat outside in the sun.The food here is fantastic, and very authentic. Salty grilled padron peppers, prawns in olive oil with lashings of garlic and sliced chille, spicy potatas bravas, hot chicken wings and some wonderfully sour and piquant grilled chorizo, fresh bread and olives. A couple of drinks each (draught lager £4) and the bill came to £42 without service. This is some of the best Spanish food we've had outside Spain, highly recommended.

The food is ok but the service is a mess. I had to ask three times for the bill because they forgot it every time.

I often pop in to La Plaza for a beer and tapas. Its great to sit outside and watch the various characters the wander along Portobello Road whilst sipping on a beer. I have noted the reviews at the end of last year regarding service. This has improved massively since a new manager has been employed. The staff don't speak great English - they are Spanish and for many its their first job in the UK. For me this adds to experience. The tapas is good but some of the main meals less so. I would recommend it for a pit stop at lunch time or at the end of the day.

I was there with some friends not long ago... Initially I though the place was fine, but then the service, or lack of it, hit me.* Very long wait for food.* Staff spoke bad to poor English. Not going back!

This is my first terrible review. My friend living in London for some time recommends this restaurant as she has been more times and she likes the place. So we go there three of us.We could easily see that the restaurant was understaffed (having obviously less personal than needed). we were waiting 20 minutes in the entrance while the waitress put a clean cloth on the table. So we take our sit and begin watching all the tables around having lunch. The 2 waiters in and out from the terrace (we were in one of the tables in the middle and in the corridor, very easy to see us), people arriving after us, were given a sit and the menu before us!We could see a couple having their whole meal (several dishes and the waitress was passing by us all the times!!), so we finally get bread in the table and dressing. We begin eating the bread. We knew by heart what we wanted to eat even before getting in the restaurant (we wanted to have the menu, usually the menu dishes are ready faster as they are precooked... well, obviously not in this case), after around 40 minutes sited we finally are asked to get some drinks!!!!!! so we take a beer, water and a jar of sangría.... We try to speak with the waitress but she is just ignoring us taking care of other tables. After other 20 minutes she finally takes care of our order (we took the chance to order another sangria, another beer and more bread as we were very hungry)...The restaurant is small, you can easily listen to other customers conversation, you cannot move the chairs without disturbing other table, and we could see all the time, other people was being served. This has been the weirdest experience in a restaurant ever!Tic, tac, tic, tac... we are frustrated seeing other tables get their food, again, people arriving after us are having the coffee and we are still waiting for a goat salad cheese and a paella!!!!!!!...A new waitress begins working, so we try to speak with her (in an extremely police and nice way, because, honestly we were very embarrassed...) so she tries to solve the problem and after 10 minutes she comes and she says that they are very busy but that the order is ok.So the previous waitress comes with a wrong "russian salad" so we have to say that is not the right salad... and then, the other waitress they bring us more bread and butter.Meanwhile we ask other waiter to close the door of the terrace (it was raining and it was very windy). He was very helpful and closed the door (he even needed to ask to move other customers in the terrace. So this was the best thing that happened for us in this place... of course at this point we were wondering if we should just pay and leave with no food in our stomachs (oh... yes... some bread!...)Finally after 1 hour and 40 minutes (all people around was finished and having coffee or they had already left....) we got out first dish!!!!!! I have no complaints of the food (I just hope they did not spit on the food, because honestly we were very nice and understanding customers... )All the staff was spanish, so were we, and there were no misunderstandings at all. The waitress tells my friend that we would get a discount in the bill for the "small" waiting time...So we have our dishes, normal food, fine. then we ask for the bill.We did not want to waste more time waiting for the coffee that was included in the menu, but we thought it would be easier for them also to make a small discount if we did not have the coffee.Everything was there! The 2 beers (3 pounds each), the 3 menus (13 pounds each), the 2 sangrías (15 pounds each) and even the bread 2.60 pounds!!!!! apart from the "service charge of 10%)... I was surprised they did not charge the tap water (they do in some places... oh! maybe this was our discount). So we go to the bar and ask were is the discount, we explained in a very nice way that we ate more bread and sangria because we were not getting any food for more than 1 hour and 30 minutes!!!!!!!!!!! So they just said: the service is not a tip for us, is just like this. Well, in my opinion this horrible service should have not been included in the bill...The solution was that "next time they would invite us for a shot"... They could not even make a discount for the 2.60 pounds of the bread that we would never have eaten if the food had been on time.I have myself been a waitress for several years and I cannot explain the way they behaved.I can tell you, just not charging the bread. As we never cause any troubles, we just paid and leave very disappointed. No need to waste more time asking for the manager because this was, obviously going nowhere.I have to repeat that this is the first time I receive such a horrible service in a restaurant. We say that spanish people we are more service minded than other nationalities, well, not in this place.I do not like to generalize, but honestly, this has been the worst customer service ever.86 pounds and 3 hours lost. I would not recommend this place at all.

We enjoyed the food quality, but found it to be not a good value. This area is "touristy" so we were not surprised. The outdoor eating area was packed the day we were there, but the service was still very good!

The food is quite good, the environment good as well, but the service is something that I ve never seen in London. If the waitress would like to do something else, they are really welcome. I will never come back because of the service.

This is a small unpretentious Spanish restaurant at the end of Portobello Road located in a small square. The restaurant is basic but the food is fab...totally 10/10. There is a great range of tapas..... Try the eel.... I have seen it on the menu several times and never plucked up the courage until today and they are great. The Galician Octopus is wonderful. The paella is also very, very good..... I would say the best I have had. The staff are friendly and attentive. The only negative is the TV screen in the main restaurant but we always eat in the small square outside so it is not a real issue. If you want fabulous food with no fancy frill this is 100% your place. Totally recommended.

Great pan con tomate, delicious mushrooms, utterly topping calameres and the best flan I think I've ever had. Totally authentic. Just like being in Spain.

It is always great to go to Cambio de Tercio. I think it is such a neighbourhood gem. The food is delicious, the staff is so friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere is also great... we simply love going there. We are not locals but every time we are in the area we try to book a table there, it never disappoints!

He dicho cantidad precio, y no calidad. La calidad muy buena, incluído el pan
