En week-end à Edimbourg et décidés à dîner dans un restaurant traditionnel Écossais nous avons essuyé un refus en raison de l’heure tardive en ce dimanche soir (8:30PM🤣) Ne voulant pas prendre le risque de ne rien trouver nous avons fait le choix de rentrer dans ce restaurant Italien à proximité Bien nous en a pris car le dîner a réellement été excellent Service souriant et prévenant, conseils avisés et surtout plats succulents et très bien présentés. Le tout arrosé d’un très bon Susumaniello rouge (une découverte) Alors même si aller dîner Italien en Ecosse peut paraître incongru, le talent du chef ne vous fera pas regretter ce choix 😉

Complimenti per tutto. Ringrazio infinitivamente le 2 ragazze Italiane( Siciliane e Romana) e lo staff per il buon servizio che danno ma soprattutto per il cibo.Tutto fresco e di buon gusto. Se dovessi ritornare ad Edinburgo ritornero' da voi ad occhi chiusi. Lo consiglio a tutti senza pensarci. Grazie ancora alla prossima.

Danke für den sehr entspannten Abend mit nettem Service und absolut leckerem Essen - wie in Italia . Die Preise sind zwar am oberen Limit aber dafür Top Qualität mit sehr guten Italienischen Weinen. Wir kommen gern wieder.

2ieme passage dans cet incroyable petit (en taille) restaurant. Vous aimez la cuisine italienne ? Alors surtout ne ratez pas ce restaurant. Magnifique cuisine italienne, faite maison, excellente. Le tout servi par un jeune homme syrien qui a fini de rendre ce moment parfait. Attention réservation obligatoire sur internet. Vous ne serez pas déçus, vraiment !

We stopped in after a lovely walk down to Dean Village, and I am SOOOO glad we did. The ladies were so warm and welcoming on a cold day, and the food was exceptional - it was fresh, it was full of flavour and it looked delicious! We had a mix of the specials and normal menu, which were talked through by the servers. We could’ve stayed all day, although when we walked past in the evening it was a full house so clearly a lot of people know how superb the place is!

Great meal! We were visiting Edinburgh for our honeymoon and it was a cold December afternoon when we arrived at the restaurant for lunch. The restaurant itself is small with limited seating so I'd definitely recommend booking a reservation ahead of time. The restaurant did fill up while we were there, so we were very glad we had a reservation. For lunch, we both ordered classic pasta dishes from the main menu. The pasta was very fresh and delicious. We loved our food and it kept us full all day. The restaurant atmosphere is cozy and charming. The staff were also very friendly and kind. It was so nice to have a warm, cozy meal on a cold day in such a wonderful city. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and had a lovely lunch.

My Husband and I ate here last week for our wedding anniversary and had such a wonderful experience. Firstly, I’m a coeliac so eating out can be a struggle and causes me a lot of anxiety. However, I need not have worried on this occasion. The food is all freshly cooked and all but two dishes were able to be adapted to suit my gluten free diet…amazing! The food was some of the best Italian food we have ever tasted, so authentic and simple. The restaurant itself is only small but we loved the intimacy of it. Very nice food. Authentic to the core with a friendly, welcoming service and a warm atmosphere. If you love Italian, you will love this.

This is a tiny restaurant that delivers big. Scale also features in the menu - small with a focus on daily specials and the essential Italian staples. There was a bright zing to all things involving tomato and the lasagne had a rich creaminess to the pasta that I haven’t had the pleasure of before. The solo waitress deserves a shout - attentive, cheerful and happy to make recommendations. Any position on Cockburn street risks a presentation of “tourist trap” but don’t see it like this - see it as your local go-to for authentic ragu and spicy sausage treats.

Cozy little Italian place on Cockburn St! We went for a date night, and it was such a lovely time. My husband had the pasta polpette (with beef meatballs) and it was so yummy, although wish there were more meatballs 😭 because it was excellent! I had the ravioli which was so creamy and delicious, and we also had the potatoes as a side and foccacia! The service was quick and friendly and we’d definitely recommend. Be sure to make a reservation in advance as they tend to be fully booked the day of!

Have been to La Locanda a few times - always had great food and service but was shocked by the menu prices. Main pasta special for £28, cheapest bottle of red wine £40 all plus 12.5% service charge made the night expensive. Other local Italian restaurants are better vfm

I've been craving a nice Italian meal for a while and La Locanda delivered! Gnocchi in creamy gorgonzola sauce were to die for! Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. Will definitely be back

Service was friendly and accommodating. Place was a bit tight though and tables are on the small side. Generous portions of the lasagna and ravioli mains. Loved the balsamic cream and the focaccia. Would come again for special occassions.

A welcome stop off on a long dog walk from Musselburgh!! Superb service from the moment we sat down. Chose two of the special starters to refuel us and were not disappointed!! Absolutely beautiful dishes, fresh and tasty!

This restaurant is an absolute must if you are in Edinburgh. A small intimate but most welcoming restaurant. The staff were friendly, attentive and informative. There service of food was timely.. we both had the lasagna which was delicious. Then followed on with the lovely waitress' advice the Panacotta. This dish could not be faulted. Overall a fabulous dining experience and we will be back

Food was incredible! The staff were all very friendly, you can tell they take a lot of pride in the food and service they provide. Atmosphere was intimate and warm.

First visit in Edinburgh, so maybe the problem is with my expectations. But I felt like this place is rather overpriced and the gnocchi dish was very small. 21 pounds (before service) for so little is disappointing - I guess other meals are served with similar amount of food. At least the staff was very nice.

We made the mistake of coming here hungry. Then two of us made the mistake of ordering the gnocchi. They were not bad but no better than what we whip up at home. But mostly the portions are tiny. We added the roasted potatoes because that is the only substantial side dish and still left hungry. We saw the prices and decided to stay but we will not do so anymore. If you go here to impress somebody with high prices you're in the right spot. If you want to eat because you're hungry, keep going.

Waren hier middags en hebben geweldig gegeten allemaal met liefde gemaakt dat proef je. Klein restaurant hele aardige denk de dochter die de bestelling opneemt. Ze zorgt dat niemand iets tekort komt. Overziet alles en doet sugesties maar dringt niets op. Crostini zo heerlijk en ook de parpadelle. Als ik weer naar Edinburgh kom ik terug.

We booked evening meal, restaurant was perfect setting, all staff fantastic and very much customer orientated. Food was some of the best Italian food I have had, everything was cooked to perfection. Can’t wait for next visit.

Great food, really friendly staff!

Came for dinner and had really lovely meals. We got the gnocchi special and lasagne which were both absolutely delicious! Gnocchi looks small but the bowl is very deep, so was a good portion. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the restaurant was very cosy with a nice atmosphere. Definitely expensive but the food and service were top notch.

Lovely place! Food was delicious and just the right portion size - I had the papardelle ragu and had enough room left over for the delicious chocolate torte. Cosy atmosphere and the staff were very attentive and made us feel at ease. Would definitely go again!

Giving this two stars I think is being polite considering the service and quality we experienced. We were seated by a waitress whom gave us the menu and specials which was fine, however when asked about an egg allergen - there was only one main left to choose from, not even any vegan options and the average price for a main was £15-30, which is not a lot of choice for what you pay for. As this was the case, we asked if we can just get some drinks and sides. We ordered some water and olives which cans to neatly £10, the bottle of water being more pricey than the olives. Olives were tasty. Then a waitress came up and told us we had to order a main in order to stay seated. This was not told to us within the 5-10 minutes of being sat and if we knew that, we would have left. This felt unnecessary and rude because she proceeded to repeat it and say ‘for this occasion, you can stay’. A lovely, homely bar that we would have stayed for drinks but since they treated us so badly, we will never be returning and hopefully this is a warning for other people to avoid this place.

Really good food and atmosphere, food I ordered was delicious, enough as a meal. The service was also very pleasant. The prices are a bit much for Italian cuisine in my opinion but the quality of food is good enough not to regret :)

OH MY GOD - that’s it. That’s the review. I got the pappardelle and was blown away. It’s on my list of top pastas now. It was so good. My husband got the special - gnocchi but thought it needed more flavor, but he still would recommend it. We split the tiramisu and it was gone in under a minute. The staff here are so lovely and it’s family owned! I loved it.

We had a fantastic time at La Locanda, so much so we came back the following evening & were lucky enough to get a table. The food was absolutely delicious, with different specials on both evenings. The knowledgeable & friendly staff went above and beyond to help us & made our time at the restaurant a special one. Cannot recommend highly enough & will definitely be coming back next time we are in Edinburgh! Definitely worth a visit, a fantastic local restaurant yet in the main tourist area & conveniently close for anyone stopping at Motel One.

What a great place!!! I thought, just because it was in the centre that it's a tourist trap...but it's not!!!! It's family fun and independent. Staff are ABSOLUTELY. FANTASTIC. Food is delicious, wine is fantastic and the atmosphere is wonderful Couldn't rate it higher.....oh wait,I can; there are gluten free options available. Try their gluten free pasta!!

Came by on the weekend for a catch up over lunch. I ordered the gluten free tagliatelle with meatballs. The staff were lovely and accommodating. Best pasta I’ve had for a long time. Definitely coming back.

Very cozy and intimate restaurant ideally situated in the old town. Excellent food and the host/hostess were very friendly and service minded. Great choice for a couples night out!

Service and ambiance was good. Its a nice little restaurant on a fancy street. However, the prices are quite high for what you'll get. Quality of the food wasn't even that good as the ravioli which I had was literally swimming in olive oil. Besides that, we had the bruschetta as starter but it's not even close to real bruschetta. The lasagne was decent but simple. Also very overpriced as all dishes were. Besides the dishes, the wine too was overpriced.

The best Italian restaurant I've ever been to! A restaurant with a small menu where everything is done perfectly. My partner and I both had the lasagna - and it was beautiful! We had a panacota and a tiramisu for dessert and again both were delicious! The staff are great as well. Would happily come back next time we're in Edinburgh.

Outstanding Italian food and friendly service just off The Royal Mile. Get reservations to sit inside as the always sell out. We sat outside on an unusually warm night for early October. Wonderful meal and no rush to turn the table over.

Wandered in on a Friday evening during a visit to Edinburgh and had such a great experience that we booked a table for dinner later in the weekend before the first meal had even ended. Extremely kind and friendly staff, beautifully cooked meals with high-quality ingredients, plus FRESH gluten-free pasta and other g-f options available (a must for my coeliac family). Couldn't have been happier with both visits, and will definitely come back again when next in Edinburgh.

We are here two days ago & I am STILL thinking about the Gorgonzola gnocchi special & the panna cotta with amaretto cherries that we had. A little pricey for the portion sizes, however the food is incredible! We hope to go back again before we leave. Great outdoor seating area for people watching & friendly service.

U jednodnevnom posjetu Edinburghu zaustavili smo se ručati u ovom restoranu na preporuku prijateljice koja je tamo bila prije mjesec dana. Imali smo predjelo, glavno jelo i desert dana. Sve je bilo jako ukusno. Uživali smo.

Mozzarella salad was fresh but small, didn’t come with any bread. Ravioli was very good. The major disadvantage is the toilet/sink situation (only one and physically hard to get to).

Centrally located cafe with more tables outside than inside. Outside seating is on a steep street which causes sitting and eating to be uncomfortable. Menu is delicious however very limited options.

My absolute favourite place for coffee in the whole of Edinburgh. Always wonderful service, even during the busy Edinburgh Festival. The food is delicious too.

We were accomodated as a walk-in. The staff handled our flustered order patiently and delivered the best restaurant meal and service we've had for a long time. It helped make our weekend in Edinburgh memorable. Thank you! Budget £50-60 per person for 3 courses, including alcohol and premium water. This also includes the optional 12.5% service charge.

Went for one quick Prosecco was there for 15 mins and the staff felt it’s ok to add 12.5% service charge bit cheeky! I could’ve got a bottle champagne from off-licence for less - (won’t be back service charges are optional !!!! )

Happened upon this gem during the height of festival season in Edinburgh. Great service, great food, great experience! Highly recommend!
