I got a cappuccino and a sandwich for takeaway - both were really delicious. The girl that worked there also was very nice and welcoming. I’d definitely come back.

The café offers many breakfast and brunch options, all of which are vegetarian. All of our orders were excellent, especially the tofu and kimchi sandwich. Lemon Cake I would have preferred the lemon taste to be more pronounced, but one time it was not clear

Chapter One has been my favourite cafe for years however the prices have increased - I think with the change of ownership - to the point it's actually insulting. After being charged £13.50 for a takeaway bagel and (small!) hot chocolate I've decided not to return sadly.

Really lovely. Staff were fabulous. We had a booking for 8 on the day of an international rugby match but someone had taken our table. Staff fixed it quickly and were very gracious. Food and coffe was also great!!

We grabbed a couple of sandwiches for a takeout lunch- very much recommended as well! Impeccable vibes, really lovely staff. 100% recommend a visit (or three!)

Had an amazing tofu sandwich and red velvet cake. The red velvet cake Is a must try! Absolutely amazing.

Delicious full Scottish breakfast—carefully sourced and ideally presented. This is the best vegan fry up we have had! While the breakfast was reasonable for a “fry up” it was still a little heavy/oily for me. If I had no concern for health/digestion, this would not be an issue.

Really cute place to get a really good vegan English/Scotish breakfast. We were there on a thursday morning. There were a couple of other people but not too crowded. We really enjoyed our time there!

Paid £4.6 for literally a slice of pear with a bit of crumble around it. This is stealing from people and it was definitely not worth it. Now off to get myself a real snack.

Amazing vegan cafe, I ordered the hot chocolate and blueberry+almond french toast and thoroughly enjoyed them! Also took some croissants to go which were also delicious :)

We had a couple of sandwiches which were amazing with creative fillings - makes a change from the usual dull offerings you get in other places! Coffee was also delicious as was the Chai cake we couldn't resist ordering. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. We wish we were local as this would become a regular

What a find! We stumbled upon this place and were pleasantly surprised to find it is fully vegan. There weren't too many gluten free options for my friend, but she enjoyed her smoothie and bakery treat. The full english breakfast and my latte were great!

Lovely decor but unfortunately they had no signs up to advertise the fact that it’s entirely vegan. Ordered my very expensive flat white and was so disappointed that it wasn’t made with real milk. It was really sweet tasting, I couldn’t even finish it.

Really lovely visit to Chapter One had the smoothie bowl with raspberries and a fresh pot of earl Grey. Everything was very well made and delicious for a light pick me up. Would return.

I've been here a few times over a year ago and it was nice but unfortunately, this time was not good and I just wasted my money. I had the worst coffee I've had in a long time. It really weak and with a strange sour taste. The brownie was dry and crumbly as if it was a few days old. On top of that there were little flies near the plants that I was having to waft away from my drink. I went as a little treat for myself so it was a shame it wasn't an enjoyable experience.

It was such nice place to drink tea, eat lots of cakes and relax. All was Vegan and so so delicious! Was ordering one cake after another. 😅 And the Vibe here is so friendly and calming. 😌

We went to Chapter One because it seems to be one of the best breakfast locations. To be honest, we were a bit disappointed. The cappuccino was ok, the bowl was very cold and a bit small for the price. If you're in the area, it's okay.

We came to this place for a brunch and it is generally a hit. NOTE: we didn't have mobile reception and missed the fact that it is a vegan place The atmosphere is great, the place is really inviting. We got mint teas - they are amazing, it is not your regular teabag, we actually got tea from mint in a really nice teapot. Smoothie bowl - really tasty, I love a good smoothie bowl, definitely recommend it. French toast, here strange things begin. Originally it is a savory dish with eggs and bacon. Eggs are replaced with corn starch, and fake bacon tastes like cardboard. It comes with bananas and maple syrup. Other than a banana, this meal has a nutritional value of gummy bears, it is only tasty because of all the sugar and banana in it. So it was a mistake. There is a great selection of other dishes, sandwiches, and pastries. Stay away from meat alternatives to get the best value.

Very nice place just outside the centre. The first I found with a 100% vegetal and decidedly tasty full English breakfast! The lavander latte was then a sweet and fragrant surprise! Advised!

It's cosy, small and the baristas were friendly. I love that everything is vegan, however what I ordered was not good ... I got a decaf coffee which basically tasted of warm milk, which to be fair is not a problem limited to this cafe but after having decafs that are genuinely really good and easily mistaken for a real coffee, even in the big chains, it is disappointing! the biscoff swirl pastry was incredibly dry! I wouldn't rule out returning as they had lots of options including sandwiches and other drinks/pastries, but just wouldn't recommend getting what I ordered.

We came across this cafe looking for somewhere to have breakfast. All vegan food and drink, absolutely delicious (even my meat eater boyfriend thought it was wonderful!). Staff were so friendly and accommodating. Would absolutely recommend a visit!

A cafe where you can relax. Located about 5 minutes walk from Haymarket Station. It's always full of customers. It's a popular restaurant so you won't be able to take your time, but you can relax and eat and drink♪ Desserts are a little sweeter than Japanese Western sweets.

Everything we ordered here was amazing. The food, the cakes and the drinks. Some places make the matcha too hot which ruins the taste of the matcha but not here 😀

Beautifully presented vegan options for brunch. French toast with bacon and banana was amazing however the Full Scottish Breakfast wasn't quite as good unfortunately - the scrambled tofu was too salty and the texture was a bit too wet for our taste - the rest of the breakfast could've been seasoned more. Didn't get a chance to try the bagels or cakes but they looked really good and always great to have 100% vegan cafes.

Ordered a coffee and a slice of cake and they came to £9.50 which I think is crazy but this felt extra crazy because my coffee was almost tasteless and my cake had really good flavour but was definitely a couple of days old as it was so stale. Being a local in Edinburgh I am so used to paying £7-£8 for a coffee and a baked good but it is usually so worth it as we have so many lovely independent coffee shops etc. but unfortunately chapter one is not worth it for me.

Disappointing breakfast experience for our visit to this cafe. Scrambled tofu out of a packet and some unappetising bacon on soggy sourdough and raw spinach. Lazy and overpriced. Sometimes we overlook these things if staff are friendly but no such luck.

We absolutely love this coffee shop! They have such a large and amazing choice of drinks (especially lattes) and amazing cakes! A few of my favorites: gingerbread latte, lavender latte, strawberry and matcha cake, raspberry and matcha cake.

We came here twice during our trip to Edinburgh – what a great find! The selection of vegan cakes, pastries, sandwiches and breakfast foods were amazing. We had the full English both times and highly recommend! Love the ethos.

As soon as I saw French toast on the menu of this vegan cafe, I knew I had to order it. It's something I've never seen on a vegan menu and it didn't disappoint! Gorgeous food

We were looking for a coffee shop around lunchtime over the festive period, and we were pleased to find Chapter One. This location served some excellent vegan food and beverages. I had the spelt and quinoa croissant as a bite to eat. I am not normally a fan of oat milk in coffee, but I did enjoy my gingerbread spiced mocha. The tables were quite close together, and I did have a plant to compete with adjacent to my table. However, this did not really detract from the visit. Staff members were very pleasant and helpful. The toilet was very quirky. One to return to, I think.

This is the best vegetarian restaurant I've ever tried in Edinburgh. The dishes are incredibly delicious, and I couldn't imagine that vegetarian food could reach such a level of excellence. The owner is extremely friendly and patient. As it was Christmas Eve and close to closing time, the owner kindly gave us two delightful desserts, which was a pleasant surprise and greatly appreciated. I highly recommend this place, and I'll definitely visit again next time.

Best vegan French Toast ever, just a lovely little cafe.

It was great to find an all-vegan cafe! I had the breakfast roll with sausage which was delicious and filling. The oatmilk in my coffee had a weird aftertaste. Staff was very kind. Definitely will visit again when I’m in Edinburgh again!

Found this gem by accident, wanted a late afternoon coffee, asked if they had any vegan cakes only to discover I had walked into a vegan cafe. It's nice to have coffee with anything but a bloody brownie. Thank you.

Went for breakfast, looking for a vegan alternative, we ordered bread with vegan bacon and a breadslice with peanutbutter and banana. A chocolate and a coffee. First of all, the presentation, very poor and then the bread so dry. the chocolate was okay, but the coffee was bitter, need to offer better coffee. Not what you expect when you see there web site and photos. A disappointment.

Had a peanut butter and banana sandwich what was really nice, just what you would expect. Only the carrot cake was not that nice. Maybe if you like a lot of lemon in your cake, this is perfect for you. It also had a weird sugary taste, my friend also didn’t like it. anyways.. I could not finish the cake

A lovely vegan cafe! The food was amazing! (We had the biscoff cinnamon bun, nutella croissant and the bree & cranberry spinach baguette)! All delicious and amazing that it's fully vegan.

The food they offer is good, also if it's extremely expensive. Being the only vegan place in the area, I often go there when I don't have time to prepare my lunch. I have been there at least 6-7 times, and every time, the environment I find is not very friendly. Never a smile or a kind look or phrase, but always grumpy and apparently angry. Maybe you should pay an extra here to get some kindness. Among other things, the last time I was lined up, and my turn had arrived, but the girl preferred to look at who was behind me and serve them. Being quite rude.

My friend who lives nearby recommended us having breakfast here and wow it didn’t disappoint. I have a dairy allergy so often find it difficult to eat out with limited options but there is not this struggle here, everything is vegan and it’s brilliant! You must try it here! Struggled with what to choose as there is so much choice so we got a few items to share which were all delicious and even got a Nutella croissant & pain au chocolat to take away. The drinks were delicious, coffee very smooth. Wish I had more room as the freshly made sandwiches on the counter looked delicious and well filled! Thanks again for a great experience.

We were visiting my family in Edinburgh. My relatives are not vegan. Nevertheless, we decided to invite them out to the nearest vegan café. Upon entering the café, we were surprised that there weren't any overt references to everything being plant-based. If they continue to do this, it would be the ideal café to bring non-vegans that have a bias or prejudice against vegan food & drink (despite having never tried it). Our relatives were reluctant to try anything. We assured them that oat milk is one of the best alternatives to dairy milk for coffee. They loved their lattes. We loved our cappuccinos. The sweet treats were lovely too. The staff were pleasant and the café is cosy. My only negative is that the place gets very busy - to the extent where you sometimes feel like you need to finish your food and leave quite quickly. That said, it is great to see a vegan venue become so popular and frequented by so many people. Me and my partner came straight back here the following morning. Chapter One is reason enough to get off at Haymarket Station... It's reason enough to travel to Edinburgh! I would love to see more 'Chapters' in the UK. Pros: 100% Vegan, Cosy Café, Friendly Staff Cons: Very Busy

a highly recommend vegan cafe in Edinburgh is chapter one so on my visit to the city I made it a must to visit on our last day , such cute spot on the corner and chilled interior in a street off town I went early so was quiet on a Monday The menu was so hard to choose from so ended up getting near enough half of it ft the Biscoff swirl , blue smoothie bowl 🥣 french toast with bacon 🥓 and banana 🍌 plus oats topped with Coconut cinnamon peanut butter and cacao , plus the granola there was a lil miscommunication and delay with my order so they kindly gave me a raspberry croissant 🥐 which I appreciated from their bakery as I’ve never tried one before ! Which I took away Amazing choice and delicious food

Found Chapter One on day 1 of a 4 night trip to Edinburgh and ended up going in there 7 times. Amazing breakfast (ate in and had 2 take away), great coffee and lovely cakes. What really makes it is the people who work there - they make every customer feel special and the attention to detail is excellent. Worth going to Edinburgh just to visit it
