Fine dining at its best Simply the best food I’ve had in Edinburgh in 30 years

A lovely French restaurant where classic dishes are served. It’s simple and charming. The food was delicious. I enjoyed their double-baked soufflé and a vegetarian cassoulet. Friendly and fast service. Unfortunately, I was too full to try a dessert.

Amazing french food, qualifying as if eating in France, this includes the atmosphere and the quality of service. Overall it was amazing and there was a treat at the end which was a sweet gesture from the manager ☺️ Worth every penny. Great value for money.

Mature couple up toon for day . Real French restaurant. Typical table, chairs , decor etc. Have been for years so popped in for mid week lunch. Really fab food as you would get in France... not dumbed down for the UK. Lunch time menu is excellent value for money. As a starter OH had stilton and leek trart and me the mussels. The starters were real fab. For mains OH had the fish dish - Coley - was a really nice chunk of fish. I had the chicken which I really liked. Check out the photos. And 10 out of 10 forva nice cold beer. The waiting staff are excellent and attenative, And it was nice to meet the owner as well. Edinburgh can be a fickle place to get a good lunch . The La Garrique didnt dissapoint and was all as a remembered it from my last visit. All in it was £59.25 for 2 mains, beers x2 , glass of wine, 1x bread and a coffee. Donn't be put off that I only left 4 stars .. very very really do I give 5 stars . The La Garrigue is well worth a visit. I will def be back, soon !

I went here on a second date, I say that because it's an occasion that is fraught with nerves and the staff made it all easy. They were also very patient when we stayed talking for a long time. (It went well! :) I had the pigeon salad for a starter and it had a lovely balance of sweet (blackberries) tart (beets) and savory (the pigeon). My companion had another selection and I'm sorry I don't remember what it was, but he loved it. We both had the lamb for our main, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The sauce was a perfect complement. We both cleaned our plates. For dessert my date ordered the Ille Flottante and he loved it. I highly recommend you visit La Garrigue!

Beautiful little French restaurant serving delicious French cuisine. We were lucky to be accommodated without reservation despite the August season. Every dish was masterfully crafted with excellent attention to ingredients.

Delicious meal, attentive staff, and lovely wines. Excellent gluten-free options, and as food is prepared to order, dishes can be adapted to suit dietary requirements.

An excellent meal. Good choice of wine, very informative and friendly staff. Both our starters were superb, and Le Cassoulet was both our main of choice. A great decision, pork belly and duck cooked to perfection, sausage helped balance it out. Our first visit to La Garrigue, and won't be our last. I'd recommend this to anyone interested in French Gastronomy. "Tres Bien" 👌

Food was absolutely delicious. And arrive was wonderful. Highly recommend! If we come back to Edinburgh, we will definitely visit again.

Excellent courses - fish soup, asparagus, veal and ham fish special were all excellent!

The service and ambiance were absolutely wonderful. My husband’s lamb was delicious my fowl with sausage and bean casserole was absolutely terrible, but then again, I do not like dark meat, sausage, or certain types of beans.The poultry was very dry for me. Our appetizers were delicious!

There were very nice wine (excellent paring with food), great range of menus and nice fresh ingredients. However, the taste was quite bland and the food was expensive overall.

The food was okay, not outstanding. The wooden furniture is terrible (and ugly). The waiter was pushy and it wasn't appriciated that we did not take a dessert. Too expensive for the whole experience.

Expensive but food is so so. And there are a few additional cost e.g. around 2£ each person for hot water, and another 2£ each for bread which is not that good.

Probably the best French restaurant in Edinburgh, food absolutely delicious.

Walnut wine was memorable, tasted like a dessert wine. Le poisson du jour was a standard dish, delicious. Le cassoulet was very homely, the duck, pork and sausage felt so comforting. Dish was served extremely hot. Otherwise, bread was cold, la galantine was decent, but not fantastic.

Everything about La Garigue breathes authentic food, drinks and service.

Good food at lunch time. A bit expensive but it's central Edinburgh. The Cassoulet was OK. Could have been better portion. Would probably visit again

Cold draughty. Staff refused to change our table away from front door. Said we were under a heater. It blew cold air. Waiter didn't indicate price of wine. Owner unhelpful when one person complained. We didn't tip. Food was ok. Just as well the company was fun. Don't think I will return although have been a few times previously.

Brilliant French restaurant - simple but classy. Wonderful food & lovely, friendly staff. I picked it based on reviews & it lived up to the 'hype' of its previous customers.

The food was lovely, however, the only negative part to the experience was the partridge being slightly tough. The restaurant has quite a spectacular view looking onto Calton Hill, and there is a great atmosphere to the place.

Cozy spot near the train station! Farm to table vibe, and make it French. Friendly service, nice wine selection and lovely atmosphere. The salmon was succulent with flavor and the skin was crispy it melted in your mouth. The first course was a autumn special, squash and fresh mushrooms. For my dessert I went with the lemon curd with fruit, it was the BOMB! Must try if you’re in the area. Make a reservation in advance, I booked on open-table, they’re packed!

Went here when I was visiting with some friends. We just stumbled upon it and it was one of the best things to ever happen to me. Had the duck casserole and it was absolutely sensational. Everything is very authentic French and the staff was very helpful in explaining everything and recommending things to us. I went 4 months ago and I still think about the meal. Could not recommend it enough. Please go experience it for yourself.

I go about once every couple of years. I'm never disappointed. The wine list remains similar, but the menu changes, and it's a pleasure to try something new each time.

Centrally located, just off the Royal Mile. Bright and airy on entry, with nooks and crannies to rear. Visited for lunch and menu was ample with an attractive 1/3x3. Choices arrived in reasonable time and fresh from the fire. Pheasant, seemingly a signature, was excellent. Service efficient and unfussy. Will I return? It's a definite Yes from me!

WORLD CLASS Made a booking for 2 people on a Saturday. It wasn't too busy so you could try and walk in. It got quite busy at like 8-9. Top notch service throughout our meal. We started off with a lobster bisque. There were these very delectable kale chips on top which were nicely crisped and salted. The bisque itself was lovely. It was very creamy and had the most delightful seafood taste running throughout with the occasional morsel of lobster. Then for the mains I got the Halibut which was awesome! Everything worked so well together on the plate. There were the purees which are always great to add a little more to each other element. You could taste how quality the Halibut was with each bite. My favourite though was the potatoes on the side. It was like a next level mashed potatoes and was really creamy, garlicy, and flavourful. I tried a litte of the patridge. Loved what was done with the mushrooms and potatoes on that dish. We ended with the lavender creme brulee which was amazing. It had the necessarily crispy top and was just the right amount of sweet. Loved my meal here and will definitely be back as I imagine every dish on the menu is a winner

Un petit coin de France entre Waverley Station et le Mile. Accueil parfait, plats savoureux, classiques et quelquefois innovants. Une adresse à connaître. Je recommande le soufflé au roquefort en entrée et le merlu au chorizo en continuation. Mais il ya aussi du cassoulet, du lapin, une excellente terrine, etc. Très bonne sélection de vins.

Unfussy, refined, super place for lunch in central Edinburgh. Fully deserves its excellent reputation.

Rather noisy and cramped and too hot inside. There were a lot of perfumes in the air which gave me a sore throat and headache. The food was okay but there wasn't anything I liked on the menu and, as an autistic person, I tend to stick to what I like. I wouldn't choose to eat here as it's not my sort of thing. Everyone else in our group loved their meals.

Delicious wine and food in a charming setting

A beautiful meal. Very relaxing. Excellent service and very friendly. Surprised by miniscule portions of bread at £1.95 per head and a little expensive but compensated by the quality of food and general ambience. I would definitely eat here again.

Ate here many years ago having heard the chef/ owner had been on masterchef and we were not disappointed regarding the interior and food. Our visit this time offered a festival 2 course selection menu for £18.50 which we can recommend and will certainly return next time in Edinburgh.

Cute place for dinner, if you can get in…. We went on a Wednesday, checked around 630 pm and saw on Open table that there were several openings for 2 for 7, 715, 730 and on. I always prefer to not use OT because I’d prefer to save a small business whatever the cut OT takes for the reservation. We walked in a little after 7 and asked for a table for 2, and could see 2 open tables. When asked, the gentleman ( I presume the owner, but not sure) pouring some wine at the front desk asked if we had a reservation, we said no. He said he had no openings…. Which confused us because we saw so many openings on Open Table. So we walked out, walked around the corner and made a reso on Open table for 730. Walked in 5 mins later and was greeted by a woman who asked if we just made the OT reso :) We were seated immediately. Food was fresh and good, and not terribly expensive. Wine was good as well. Service was fine, didn’t seem like the servers were rushed or overworked. It’s possible that they didn’t want to seat us because they were understaffed but it didn’t seem like that was the case at all. So I’m not sure what the issue was that night. So, if you want to go, get a reso on OT.

Had a great evening here for a 40th. Staff were friendly attentive and helped us with a small cake we had brought. All the food was of very high quality. The starter, scallops, being one of the best I have tried. Could not fault any of the dishes. Accompanying wine we chose again was good. Surroundings and ambiance make for a fun Saturday evening. Would work for groups or a romantic meal. Located close to the station but far enough away it is quiet. Highly recommended.

Food was amazing. Warm welcome and very attentive staff. Super friendly and interested in our trips to France. Reason for knocking off one star. A bit disappointed with the automatic 10% service charge. I would have left a tip. It should not be automatic. We will be back though as the food and people are amazing.

Great to be able to eat and drink wine indoors again but due to govt. requirements (screens between tables) things feel a little sterile and not quite right. Let's hope next month's review leads to full relaxation and the full 5 ⭐ dining experience again...

Great authentic French cuisine with excellent service. What's not to love?

Great quality, tried the fish soup, pork steak and cheese souffle, freshly made bread & butter and lyonnaise potatoes, all of excellent taste !!! Also had the chocolate mousse and levander creme brulee which were top notch! Good service and very artistic ambience.

Lovely place with exceptional service and very high quality food. The desserts were the stand out on this trip, a delicate lavender creme brulee and chocolate mousse and red berry perfection. Very reasonably priced, keeps us coming back.

We’ve had a few takeaway, cook at home meals during lockdown and they have all been delicious. Ordering and pick up has been very straightforward and all the dishes come with easy to follow cooking/ heating instructions which don’t take much time to do. We’re looking forward to getting back to the restaurant when it opens again after restrictions ease but the takeaway service is equally delicious for now!

We had a meal delivered for a special birthday and it was truly first class. The food was easy to prepare at home with clear instructions as well as being extremely tasty. Every course was very good, but I highly recommend the creme brulee. Don't skip this dessert! Thank you La Garrigue!

As patrons of La Garrigue we have been delighted to continue this during both lockdowns and also our wonderful Christmas dinner, so we have extensive knowledge of their current delivery/collect service. Three courses for £23 with 3 choices per course. Supplement for additional choices. The food is plentiful and excellent quality. Examples have been Pate en croute or French onion soup with croutons ( which were to die for , ) A cassoulet of duck, sausage and pork, or beef cheek with an amazing stacked pasta cake. Deserts often entire a creme brûlée, but also have included tartlets, chocolate puddings and cheese is available at a supplement . It comes in compostable containers with clear instructions as to reheat/complete the dishes. Diners may choose individually, as one would in the restaurant. Due to the nature of a “takeaway” service, some dishes make a regular appearance- which now leads us to seeing a favourite dish and immediately placing an order. With so many restaurants unable to continue, we are delighted to both support and partake of the superb quality eating from La Garrigue.
