La Capannina in Brighton and Hove

Really enjoyed food and service. I had the carbonara and it knocked mine into a cocked hat! Friend has Calzone which I tried and we both loved.

Fabulous place for small parties. Hardly noticeable but it’s costly tucked away on Madeira Drive. Sundays it’s not so busy but weekday nights seemed quite busy. The prices are pretty good, pizza is available for 7.50 and a little bit more. Pasta, spaghetti and lasagne are Available for £10.50 and above. Specialist dishes are £12 and above. Friendly Italian staff who serve you well and are very attentive. Highly recommended.

I can see why this place is so busy. This is a small family run restaurant,the food was amazing, extremely tasty and beautifully cooked. The waiter was so nice although he could have done with some help but he did an excellent job. Definitely would recommend.

The food was delicious, the service was great and prices beyond reasonable. Great that it’s family run too. Recommend booking - especially for Saturdays as we saw at least 10 tables being turned away as the restaurant was fully booked.

This place deserves all the praise it can get. The most gorgeous, wood interior - making you feel like you’re in Italy. It’s a warm atmosphere, with the staff being so attentive. The food was on a different level. Totally authentic, with fresher than fresh ingredients (as told by our lovely waiter) - I went for the Sardinian sausage pasta dish with fennel which was divine. Seriously give this place a go - you won’t regret it.

Alex served us our perfectly cooked & presented pasta meals with a huge smile. Been ere before & still to be honest the best italian restaurant in brighton. Atmosphere so relaxing/food music & service excellent. Highly recommend

Came to Brighton looking for Authentic Italian food, and we were not disappointed one bit, this place deserves the title as #1 food in Brighton, everywhere from service to spirits and wines, to their delicious food was 10/10 hands down! All I have to say is make a reservation, although they will get you in and service you with the same expectations, you will not be disappointed with La Capaninna ! 12/10 for sure!

We came to La Capannina on our visit to Brighton. Fortunately we had pre-booked as it was extremely busy; easy to see why as it is such a fabulous place. Lovely ambience, warm welcome, great service, fabulous food. For starters one of us had smoked salmon and smoked swordfish, the other had baby squid peperoncino, for mains we both had fillet steak gorgonzola with nuts accompanied by a great selection of vegetables. The steak could have been cut with a fork! Amazing food, beautifully presented, hot, tasty and in very generous quantities. Far too full to manage a dessert! With a bottle of excellent Montepulciano - £93...great value for a fabulous evening! What a shame that we live 160 miles away!

Visited here at the weekend. The food was absolutely beautiful. We had a starter of scallops in cheese sauce, and my main was a seafood pasta. The service was friendly, attentive and with genuine Italian staff/owner, and such good value. I was so pleasantly surprised at the bill. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Brighton. 5 stars! La Capannina is a lovely, old school family run Italian restaurant. The menu offers a multitude of choice, we plumped for a couple of simple pasta dishes, and the service is attentive but not intrusive. The pasta dishes that we were served, one vegetarian and one meaty, were generous and exploding with flavour. We also had a side of garlic bread and I have to say that it was simply lovely. We followed the mains with a homemade tiramisu, light and lush, and a slice of apple and cinnamon pie that was the best pudding that I have eaten in a while. All in all this was a wonderful meal and we will definitely be going back.

Me and my pal dined there 16 August. Been there a lot over the years. It is OK. He ordered lobster. I ordered pumpkin filled tortelloni. The lobster had to defrost for an hour We were left alone - not spoken to simply ignored. No apology for the delay. No bread sticks/olives/no nothing to fill the dead hours. When it arrived my tortelloni had been cooked I guess for the regulation 3 minutes but clearly then abandoned to dry out under a 'heat' light for an hour and had dried to mush inside and the edges were rubberised. I was ashamed for them. To hide the mess they added a butter or something sauce which slid off, then, as it looked a mess buried it alive under rocket leaves. And I mean buried not and inch of pasta visible. A disgrace. I only ate itbecause I was famished. My pal said his lobster was OK. NO I DO NOT WANT A VOUCHER OR ANYTHING. Not going there again.

Dining with a friend I ordered pasta with lobster - the food was delicious but took over an hour to arrive! In the meantime several tables of subsequent customers were served long before us.

The guesthouse we stayed in recommended this delightful Italian restaurant. On arrival we were greeted warmly and immediately offered menus and drinks. I chose a house special of lobster with linguine and my husband had a prawn linguine. Both meals were delicious as were are starters and desserts. We had fantastic service throughout our stay and the food was delicious. Would recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting Brighton.

Very good, typical 'traditional' restaurant in terms of style, with a more interesting than normal menu and specials board. I called in for a quick early dinner upon recommendation of the B&B owner where I was staying, whilst working away on my own.I only had a main course pasta dish, from the specials, along with some olives, a Peroni and a nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc but I noted others having various different dishes, from Pizza to fish & meat dishes and it all looked very nice. My seafood pasta dish (very simple with clams, prawns, grated mullet and olive oil) was very satisfying, a good size and well priced for the area. Drinks & food were brought over promptly and service was extremely efficient whilst friendly. I would recommend and would definitely come back on a future visits and hopefully spend more time and sample more of the menu. Very good indeed.

Hubo algunas ofertas especiales y los precios parecían de rango medio + Dependía de lo que quisieras.Se colocaron barreras de plástico entre las mesas y el personal llevaba máscaras faciales. Haciendo esto más seguro de Covid 19.Justo antes de hacer nuestro pedido, apenas 5 minutos después de entregarnos los menús, el camarero me dijo groseramente que tenían más invitados llegando en 1 hora y que necesitaba la mesa. Fue lo mejor que había probado en mi vida el café irlandés y creo que fue por el azúcar que pudieron poner. No demasiado fuerte pero sí lo suficientemente fuerte como para saborear y la crema fría mezclada con el café tibio obtuviste ambos sabores que salieron bien. ¡Defo recomiendo este!¡Decidimos no tener un desierto real ya que no queríamos molestarlos por su tiempo!Fui al baño de la planta baja, así que esto puede ser un problema con las personas que tienen problemas con las escaleras. Estaba limpio y ordenado.Sala de estar en las escaleras también.Luego recibimos la factura, pagamos y nos fuimos. Disfrutando de la comida pero decepcionado por el servicio al cliente temprano, salga rápido.Así que estaba dividido con este restaurante. Comida de gran calidad a un precio medio más barato gracias a la promoción Help Out to Eat out. Encontré este melocotón de un lugar mientras buscaba un buen lugar para comer en Kemptown. Un menú italiano tradicional pero la comida era deliciosa y bien presentada con porciones grandes. Comer fuera para ayudar hizo que tuviera una muy buena relación calidad-precio, pero definitivamente volveremos aquí la próxima vez que estemos en Brighton

Tuvimos una comida maravillosa para dos en un gran ambiente.Adaptaron el menú a nuestro gusto, comimos melón y jamón más medio plato de pasta para comenzar seguido de un plato de salmón y pasta para mi esposa y yo tuvimos la pizza DIavola Mi pizza era la mejor que había comido, y toda la comida era excelente, además el camarero fue muy amable y tenía un gran sentido del humor.No puedo recomendar el lugar lo suficiente. El servicio fue excelente, rápido, pero en ningún momento nos sentimos presionados. Reservamos una mesa y nos alegramos de haberlo hecho, ya que el restaurante estaba lleno a las 7:30. El restaurante se ha configurado bien para el distanciamiento social.Definitivamente lo recomendaríamos y volveremos si en la zona nuevamente.

Very disappointed.... ordered some garlic bread with cheese absolutely no taste whatsoever no garlic at all ....i had the spaghetti and meatballs an Italian classic you would imagine...it was awful dry over done meatballs no seasoning no fresh herbs at all the sauce was sweet without any herbs garlic or seasoning , you should be ashamed not authentic at all.

Have eaten here before when visiting Brighton and will definitely eat here again when we return. Very good authentic Italian restaurant. Staff so friendly and hospitable. Good Covid measures in place that make it feel safe but still full of atmosphere.

We visited on Sunday evening and made a last minute booking so we were lucky to get in. Good covid 19 measures in place with tables distanced and screens between tables. Hand sanitizer on arrival. Food was delicious and prices fairly reasonable for this area. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Attentive service. Lovely and clean. Nice dining atmosphere. Would definitely recommend a visit. Ate baby squid, spicy meatballs, bruschetta, lasagne, pizza, chicken penne pasta, tiramisu and semi freddo. Half carafe of house wine was reasonably priced and good.

Weekend in Brighton - turned out to be a taste of Italy. Lovely authentic restaurant. Great menu selection. All food is cooked to order and it tastes great. Really nice atmosphere. The owner was a delight and so very, very attentive. Good selection of wines. We when arrived we had to queue up for a table as it was so busy - it was worth the wait. Thank you.

Our first time eating in a restaurant since lockdown was lifted, and wow this place was a hidden gem! Stumbled across it on Google Maps when looking for a place that was open to eat, it's a 3 min walk from the centre of town. We were greeted with a true authentic Italian feel, it's not a huge restaurant (although there are also tables downstairs), but they have mastered socially distanced dining. I'd recommend booking ahead to secure a table. Perspex screens and plenty of space between each table, not crammed in at all. Lots of hand sanitiser and I regularly saw the staff reapplying this throughout the evening.Food-wise, you are totally spoilt for choice, pizza, pasta, meat, fish, plus the specials on the blackboard. We both had pizzas which were divine, cooked in their wood-fired oven. Food is all very reasonably priced, and felt like a really good deal for the quality of the food we received.The service was fantastic and generally a really nice atmosphere, we will definitely return next time we are in Brighton!

Came here the other day after booking a reservation over the phone. The atmosphere was cosy and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. There were a few vegetarian options, the pasta with aubergine was amazing. Good selection of tasty desserts. I would definitely visit here again

The weather was appalling so needed to be close to where we we staying. On stepping inside La Capannina it exuded a very pleasant ambience truly Italian. The three of us each ordered pasta mains which were so good. For dessert we made different choices.Throughout the meal the service was friendly and efficient. Wine that we chose matched the food well and was good value too. A nice way to spend an evening when the raining was beating down outside

Went here for lunch. Good food for a decent price! Glasses were dirty which is the only thing that knocks the rating down. Food pretty standard, probably better places elsewhere but not many for this cheap.

Food was ok. Nothing amazing- more of a cafe than restaurant. Gentleman next to us ordered a pizza and a glass of water and the waiter muttered “pizza and tap water is that all”.

We visited on Friday 31st January. Food was to die for. Pizza was absolutely delicious. Service was extremely good from a lovely, friendly waitress. We have been several times when we visit Brighton and the food and service never fails to disappoint. Cant wait to come again when we return to Brighton in the summer

I recently visited with some colleagues, and after seeing all the reviews and the fact they offered gluten free I was positive I’d get a good meal.

Had a revisit , lovely place. Truly authentic . Had spaghetti bolognese and cheese garlic bread .Very deliciousness. Great service

A terrific meal from the specials board, linguine with lobster and scallops and sea bass. The ambience was great fun with cheerful waiters and really good service. We loved it.

I was invited to a meal here. I phoned beforehand to enquire re wheelchair access. They were very vague in their answers and just said yes, it’s accessible and the toilet was too. On arrival, the doors were very narrow then the waiter ushered us towards some very steep stairs! Although I can walk, these stairs were not safe for me. There was no rail to hold onto you and I felt very vulnerable. There is no ground floor accessible toilet facility. My group’s table was downstairs so it meant I had to miss out on the meal altogether. To ask me to go downstairs was also dangerous, what if there had been a fire or incident? Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this as an equal access restaurant. Although the staff were very friendly and tried to help, they just simply didn’t have a clue about access for customers using wheelchairs or who have mobility issues. I hope this can improve. Such a shame as was looking forward to my pasta with tomato & smoked bacon!!

As Christmas is a busy time of year we meet up with my husband's family in October for a catch up and lunch unplanned just walking past this restaurant and who's sitting at a table in the window his brother and his sister and sister in law lunch was great service good wine extremely good

I chose this restaurant as it was very near to our hotel. Quite a wide ranging menu with several daily specials and a bargain priced set menu. We had squid and fish soup to start and pizza and veal for main courses with banofee pie for dessert. Good Italian wines and excellent coffee. I thought that everything was freshly cooked, very friendly service and quite large portions. Everywhere should have a restaurant like this. So much better than those dreary over priced pizza chains.

We arrived on spec on a cold miserable Friday night and got a lovely warm welcome. The place is small and feels authentic - we both had pizzas and they were excellent. Decent bottle of house red completed the informal meal. The only issue was the temperature - we both were freezing! Other diners were well wrapped up so it must have been our mistake. Definitely worth a visit, look forward to returning when next in Brighton.

My mother and I visited in sept 2019 and I just realised I didn't leave a review. Restaurant and staff were excellent. Food was well presented and tasty. I would def go again when in Brighton.

This restaurant was opposite our hotel and after a trying journey we took the lazy option. Good decision. The welcome from the servers was very warming. Our server made us feel welcome, she engaged us in a friendly, but not overly familiar way, and made us feel our presence was important to the restaurant.

Had a nice family meal, good service and the food was reasonably priced. The pizza was very good but pasta a little oily. Not sure if they had one but was not offered a children’s menu which was a shame for our 3 year old.

Wanted to try a few times and so glad we got a table. Nice quality food really reasonable price, 2 starters, 2 mains, beer and bottle of wine under 60quid. Will be back.

Had a meal for 2 18th October. Can't fault it. Food was glorious, I had the Spinach & Ricotta Ravioli & my better half had the Canneloni. Great value, great friendly staff was worth the 7 hour drive. Highly recommended..

Just had a lovely meal here, staff are welcoming and funny and the food is great value. Both opted for seafood pastas - very generous with the seafood. Would definitely recommend.

The first time I travelled to Brighton with work I found this place on my walk back to the hotel. They were very welcoming. Food is excellent and amazingly priced. I visit there now every time I am in Brighton and can honestly say I have not had a bad meal. It is always busy but the service is excellent. Fabulous little find.

Stumbled across this place as craving pasta this was on a monday night and we were lucky enough to get the last available table. Food was served quickly and staff very attentive . The food was great we both enjoyed our meals Highly recomend this place

Wow what a gem of a place. We were staying in a b&b; in the same street. Called in to see if we could get a table, were very helpful found us a table downstairs.

We are locals and have been to Capannina before. The food was ok but the atmosphere was great!

used to go here whenever I went to Brighton so we did not hesitate to book for last night. What a disapointment. It began with the tepid mushrooms, and when I asked to have them properly heated, after being put in a micorwave together with the lettuce they were on, I was asked how it was. I said not very good and I don't appreciate hot microwave lettuce - the waiter just looked at me, didn't say a word and never told any one. Move on to the Siccilliana pasta, tasteless, soggy pasta in watery sauce, and even they managed to make one of the worst pizza's we have had for years.... Very surprised at how bad it was, but wont ever go again.... what a shame... didn't bother with desert as was so unimpressed wanted to get out.

Love this little restaurant. Food is great....authentically Italian, prices reasonable and the staff friendly and helpful. A wonderful atmosphere too.

Went on Friday night, and enjoyed it so much that we went back on Sunday night. Lovely food, sensible prices (especially for Brighton) great atmosphere and friendly staff. Probably worth booking on a weekend. We managed to walk in on Friday, but had to wait for a table on Sunday.

We tried a new restaurant each day we were here and found this gem on our last day otherwise would have come back each night, 100% the best pasta me and my partner have had and we struggled to decide which to try as there are so many delicious choices. Such a lovely atmosphere run by the friendliest guys who made it feel like we were dining in Italy, absolutely loved it!

This italian restaurant sits on the corner of the street & frm the outside looks small but beautifully decorated wth lush foliage.

We were made to feel very welcome as soon as we entered, even without a booking . We had grilled sardines which were delicious. John opted for a minestrone soup that was full of flavour and very filling. I had the crab spaghetti which was disappointing because there was a lack of textures in the sauce.

2 couples, 3 pizzas, 1 pasta course and four very happy customers! The service is as good as it gets and the food is so delicious! You get the feeling you are truly in italy, thanks to Pierino and the other staff! Thank you!

Second visit to this restaurant - this time after the London to Brighton Bike Ride. This is a small family run Italian with gorgeous food and a lovely atmosphere.

Whilst in Brighton try the La Capannina restaurant. Food was delicious and staff great. Small but atmosphere lovely. Would recommend the Moules and the Chicken in Brandy and mushroom sauce.

I walked past this place and the menu looked good and it didn’t disappoint. The food was great and lots of choice. The service was really good and the lady that served us was very friendly and attentive. Food was a little on the expensive side but not bad and well worth it. If you like Italian food you will like this.

Dined with friends, lovely food, impeccable service - knowledgeable and nothing too much trouble. Worth a visit but definitely book in advance, we did and glad as the place was packed! Fresh pasta and huge portions, excellent value for money

Had a late night pizza from here. The staff were fab, the pizza was lovely and kept hot back to the hotel. Just Brilliant

My daughter and I went for lunch on Mothers Day. We`d booked and it was quiet, however then realised everyone was eating later due to the clocks springing forward!

We stopped off here as both me and my friend fancied an Italian meal. I ordered a pizza, whilst she ordered a pasta dish and we shared a cheesy garlic pizza bread.

Came here as a group of 9 on Friday evening as was recommended this place. Food was great and everyone enjoyed. The staff were really friendly with good humour! We sat downstairs - it's much bigger inside than you'd guess from the outside!
