La Brasserie in Wakefield

Definitely gone downhill since my last visit. Menu doesn't seem to have as much on it as before and it gets a little boring having the same limited menu if you stay for 2 or 3 nights like I did. That said, the onion bhaji starter is really good and so are the hoisin duck pancakes - pity they couldn't make them into main courses ! The pasta dish I had (linguini I think) was very sloppy and tasteless and the hunter's chicken the next night was also poor and bland. Those 2 meals kind of sum up what to expect here unfortunately. Not cheap and not that good.

Ate while staying in the hotel and although the menu looked a little limited to start with, it turned out to be a pretty good meal. A colleague and I wandered in and sat at a 2 seater table only to be told we had to check in at the front desk before we could sit. Begrudgingly got up and went to the desk to then be shown back to exactly the same table !! Service was prompt and our duck with hoisin starter soon arrived, very tasty it was too so 2 empty plates pretty quickly. Mains arrived soon after, one steak and one pork. Both were hot, freshly cooked and very tasty. 2 more empty plates ! Only slight issue was the price of the beer and the fact that there is no real ale on offer, otherwise very good.

Tuvimos una comida agradable con un fallo leve, no fue mi pescado cocinado. Camarera cogió me ofrecieron alternativas, pero yo quería la misma, comida volvimos perfectamente hecho y muy delicioso. nos ofrecieron postres gratuitos. "a veces ocurre falla" muy bien tratado y una comida también!

Fuimos para una comida especial, sin manteles, sin ambiente para reuniones de negocios que más parejas, Filetes eran horribles.

Carte typique anglaise, plats copieux, service rapide et souriant. Ce n'est pas de la haute gastronomie mais on en a pour son argent

You will pay far too much for poor quality pub standard food, the service was good and they kept asking was everything ok, I suppose they must know its not really for the price you pay.

Lovely restaurant overall, modern and cosy. Plenty of choice for a small hotel restaurant- all meals seemed good value for money and averagely priced. Service is fantastic and all the waiters and staff were really friendly. It took just over an hour to finish a 3 course meal from sitting down! Definitely would recommend. Enjoy!

It's ok but don't get excited. It is as we said pub food but with old hat chunky chips. Staff are great but they need better pay and a better hotel. Even the cheeses board struggles to promote the best of Yorkshire

Firstly we visited for Christmas day lunch and I understand that if you want to eat out on Christmas day you have to pay for it. I accept that. What I can't accept is lack of organisation, no one came for our first drinks order until after the starters (I had asked three times to order drinks and I then had to ask where they had got to). I can't accept poor service from young men who didn't know how wait on people. I can't accept underdone and overdone vegetables and chewy Yorkshire puddings. Santa was a let down and the 'children's entertainment' was a small bouncy castle and a table with a few books. I expect to have to pay for a Christmas day lunch and I also expect to get what was sold to me.

Had a couple of meals here whilst staying a over 3 days. I had the rib eye steak and beef medallions. The steak was very good but the medallions were exceptional. Very well cooked and brought to the table very quickly. The staff are very pleasant and attentive. The only drawback is the eating area itself. it was OK for breakfast but definitely lacking for dining on an evening.

Had a meal tonight whilst staying at the hotel. The food was very nice, and staff were very polite. The restaurant though is more a hotel foyer than a restaurant.

The restaurant is really rather average for dinner, but much better for breakfast. I entered the restaurant for dinner, and the head waiter said that he could only accommodate me in 20 minutes' time, despite being half empty. No apology - just cannot fit you in before 8. Only one other table table entered in this waiting period. The other staff were charming and helpful. Where I sat, I could hear the head chef shouting very loudly at the kitchen staff and waiters. Either don't shout, or sound proof the kitchen. My starter of Caesar salad was minuscule, although tasty. My broccoli, leek and cheese pie was certainly above average, with a nice crust, and the filling was not overcooked. A pity, as I will be staying often in the hotel, but will not choose to dine here.

I had two meals at the restaurant and found the food to be very reasonable and good value.I had the burger and the curry which were both absolutely fine and good value. The service was excellent - fast efficient and friendly and it is a pleasant place to eat. If i stay at the hotel again I will eat there again.

I stayed in room 164 which was right at the other end of the hotel I ordered the room service and it was absolutely wonderful The food came quick, was hot, and the blonde lad who came round was very polite and I tipped him £1 for his troubles of having walk to the other end of the hotel and we even made a joke about that Would definitely stay here again :) love it!!
