Beautiful hotel in the magnificent setting of a golf course. We were very well received. Our room and bathroom were spacious, elegant and very clean. We really appreciated the very comfortable bedding. On the other hand, on the catering side, we waited a long time to be served. It was not at all up to the standard of the establishment. Fortunately, at breakfast the level of service was more correct.

Came here for a spa day with my daughter. All treatments we received were professional carried out and very relaxing,great place for a restfull day The only let down was the standard of the afternoon tea,the sandwiches were fresh and nice but the cakes were frozen and had no flavour,,a big let down for such a lovely day spent in the spa

We stayed at Formby Hall this weekend after receiving a Virgin Experience gift card. When I called to book a few days before the receptionist was extremely helpful and made me aware of offers that where available currently. Before we arrived I received an email with available upgrades so of course opted for the room upgrade and spa treatments. Boy am I glad I did this. We went to the spa an hour before check in. Everyone was very friendly informative and the spa session was absolutely lovely. Everything was working perfectly fine and everywhere was clean (this was something I took note of after reading recent reviews). When we checked in the reception area was very busy as there was a wedding on but this did not hold up our check in at all. We was extremely lucky that the sun made a long awaited appearance this weekend so was over the moon once we checked in and found our room had a lovely patio overlooking the golf course so we sat in the sunshine with the complimentary bottle of fizz that was in the fridge and watched the world go by. It was bliss! The room was lovely and big, very clean, maybe the odd chip here and there in the furniture but nothing I would really stand up and complain about that's for sure. We stay away a lot and this was most certainly one of the nicer rooms. Everyone was in the same frame of mind in these rooms as we have lovely 'neighbours' and everyone was outside enjoying the big yellow hot thing that greeted us (for a change). Later on we went ro the Lounge bar as was going to take advantage of the pizza and pimms offer. It was 6.03 when the order was put through but then someone came and said the pizzas had finished. We thought they were on until 8pm but in very small print on the menu, it was posted out pizzas were only until 6. They were on the ball shutting up, that's for sure. The bar 'young man' had already started to make 2 mini jugs of pimms so we still had these although we went entirely sure he knew what he was doing so with a bit of prompting he got there! We ended up just having burgers as had opted for a less formal kind of evening. They were lush, really good quality 👌 We had cocktails (can highly recommend the French Martini) and wine and just watched the world go by. Was so nice and relaxing even on a Saturday night whilst busy with a wedding and golfers that had concluded for the day. No waits at the bar for us. On the Sunday, we headed down for breakfast. Everyone was friendly and everything was replenished very regularly so nothing ran out and no waits. I am not one for breakfast normally but I actually had a 3 course breakfast! Fruit to start with a lovely black cherry yoghurt. Full English and everything was nice quality - nicely cooked bacon, massive mushrooms, nice sausages (I am extremely fussy with these normally) yolky eggs and no bullet beans haha. I then finished off with a pastry and a coffee. Lovely. Checking out was easy too. Some of the staff you can tell are maybe a little less experienced as some a younger workforce, but come on, we have all be there learning... right? Give them a chance & help them, they are friendly enough. We will not hesitate to return again. We are already planning our next stay once it gets warmer. Myself and my husband stayed here at the weekend as a birthday treat. I had planned a surprise meal in the evening with family for my husband, and the staff were very accommodating in the run up to it , dealing with my email enquiries- they kept the surprise up when we checked in too and the young lady on the reception desk was very welcoming. Our whole stay was perfect. The room was beautiful- everything was clean and lots of attention to detail with even a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge cooling.The bed was so comfortable too. Our evening meal was lovely. The food was cooked to perfection and the waiting on staff were really friendly and eager to please. There was a particular lady who met us to show us to our table and a few younger members of staff who really stood out from the rest for their hospitality. We used the swimming pool and spa area twice while we were there and found it lovely and clean and very relaxing. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to friends. Thanks for a lovely stay and for making my husbands birthday special.

Played golf expecting the course to be waterlogged. What a surprise! It was in excellent condition. First time since last October that we didn't have to use mats. The hospitality after the match could not have been better. The two members we play with ( Mike and Bobby) looked after us all day. We really had a great day out.

I received a weekend break with 18-hole Golf for a Birthday gift and stayed at Formby Hall in February. Due to the weather we were told that the 18-hole course is not in use, but we will receive a wet weather voucher to use at a future time .... so we stayed overnight (which was nice) however despite over 5 emails and calls to the golf manager, customer services and the Hall management, there has been no reply to the promised golf voucher!! If you want an overnight stay, the room and food is nice however dont count on good customer service by the management!

Had afternoon tea and it was lovely

I had booked a voucher as a Christmas present for me and a friend - when we arrived we were told to give the codes from the vouchers - I provided both voucher codes and showed proof of payment. Once we had our treatments we were then informed that we had to pay an additional £218 as ‘the vouchers did not cover the treatments’ we just had done (even though the description specified the treatments and use of facilities were included in the voucher I had already paid for). We agreed to pay and carried on our day in the spa. Once we’d left we read the terms and conditions of the voucher which did not state any hidden fee of that amount would have to be paid, so we therefore raised our concern via phone call to the spa. We were told we would get a phone call back the same day which we did not. After not receiving a phone call on the same day we were told we would receive an email the day after explaining the situation which we did not. Finally on the third day and many phone calls later, after getting the hotel staff involved with the situation ( who actually took time out of their day to listen and understand our concerns unlike the spa staff) we got to speak with the spa manager who informed us that there was no history of our voucher codes being put though the system - even though I personally wrote them down for the member of staff that dealt with us. After waiting 3 days we were issued a full refund. We could not fault the treatments we received on the day and the location of the spa was beautiful. We are completely understanding that mistakes can happen from time to time, however the way the situation was prolonged and the lack of basic customer service we received has put us off coming back to this spa.

Two of us had a round of golf through Virgin Experience Days. We had a very good day around the 18 hole course. Staff were polite and friendly in the golf shop, and restaurant/bar. Although the weather was challenging, we enjoyed it, and would return. Thank you.

Booked to have a spa day here as a birthday treat. When I rang to confirm treatment times I was told that my booking was not booked as they were fully booked. My money had already been taken and there was no communication to say. If I had not rang I would not have known. Very disappointed as I was looking forward to it as I had never been to a spa before

Never stayed .we had afternoon tea we went at 4 o'clock and it Finnished the waiter told us to wait a minute and went into the kitchen came out said yes and set a table for us. As we were sitting he came over a few times and explained they were making the sandwiches for us fresh. Great service

Great venue for Al fresco dining and drinking. Good very reasonably priced considering the class of the venue.

Room was lovely and clean treatments were amazing but the shower wasn't working in treatment room so I had to go to changing room for a shower after body scrub the evening meal was very disappointing cold and very overpriced

Came for a spa visit and the spa staff just couldn’t do enough for you. My partner has been struggling with ongoing shoulder pain a lot and the therapist took this into consideration and touch wood his pain has gone! He said if it ever comes back he will travel again! So super impressed with that. The spa is very small and not very relaxing, no where to sit and chill or hang your robes etc. shame there isn’t anywhere to eat in your robes too as we had to get dressed and then decided to not go back into spa again. The jacuzzi was broken too. The afternoon tea wasn’t that great. Stale bread too. I think your afternoon tea needs to be more up to date with today too, more popular sandwiches and cakes.

Very pricey on the drinks but very 'relaxed' approach to service from the staff. Nice location though!

Our overnight stay was amazing spa treatments 3 course meal breakfast and use of spa area and thermal suite was second to none 5 star plus and we will definitely be back thank you to all your staff our room was fantastic spotlessly clean xxx

Been here far too many times to list but its well over 25 times. All have been for a spa break , stay in hotel and use of spa facilities and the fairway restaurant. Love it here such a chilled out place great spa and food and drink was lovely. Great surroundings where it is set never had any problems here. Stayed in all of the accommodation and all rooms of a good standard and comfortable.

Visited Formby Spa and Hotel for a birthday weekend break and it was gorgeous! I booked a spa package which included a treatment, spa facilities, hotel stay and dinner/breakfast. We stayed in the Loft Rooms which was a lovely upgrade from the room we had originally booked. They include a bigger bed and room, mini bar and a stunning bath with a built in tv. A nice touch from the hotel for our weekend stay. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a nice relaxing break away from a big city. The beach and town are just a 10 minute drive away too.

Really enjoyed our stay, we was lucky enough to get a free upgrade! Room was really spacious and clean. Only one minor point we was told at the bar that they were not serving cocktails because they did not have all the incredients, I didn't even tell them which one, asked to speak to the manager and the ingredients suddenly appeared, rather weird!! As I say minor point staff where also very friendly

What a strange and disappointing afternoon. We booked the spa day for 2 with 3 treatments, use of the facilities and lunch for £280. After filling in the client consult forms we were taken straight into the treatment room, offered no robes or anywhere to change or leave our bags. The treatments were lovely but were not the full time stated on our itinerary. When the treatments were over we still had no robes so had to wonder out of the room half naked to ask for some. My friends treatment was rushed and she ended up being cut short by 1 hour!!!! Again no robes were offered, after an aromatherapy massage and facial crammed into 55 mins instead of 1 hr 55 mins, she had to get fully dressed and wait in reception, poor! No one seems to know what's going on, it's like every person we spoke to was on their first day at work! The changing room is shabby, broken panels, broken locks on the lockers etc. The next treatment we had was the mud rasul, it's supposed to be in steam! There was no steam in the room so we just sat there in the cold air covered in mud for 20 mins. We told the lady it wasn't working as our friends where the next ones due in the rasul, she didnt do anything about it but said to them as they went it "I hope you get some steam"!!!! The steam room in the thermal spa was also not working. I'm not an overly fussy person but when you pay nearly £300 for a spa day you expect it to be nice. Little things like.... Asking for a jug of water and some glasses for our table and lunch and instead being brought massive beer glasses full to the brim of water. It's just not ok Customer service is absolutely shocking, they don't care. I will never, EVER go back

Sadly have tried to communicate with this business, Operations Manager Nicola Boniface in particular. We attended a Wedding last year when our son was left with concussion from falling wall tiles within the men's toilets. We waited 4 hours for an ambulance, were not checked on by staff on duty and with a brief meeting the following day with the operations manager, I quote "accidents happen" was the general attitude. We have received no communication from the hotel, they have not answered my emails nor returned my calls after leaving voicemail and messages. No gesture made to even begin to try and help a poor experience more bearable. Paying £300+ a night for a family room then to be treated this way is unacceptable. I will upload photos of the disrepair and the incident so potential customers are aware of what to expect from a business that markets itself as a higher end establishment. We have sadly had to start legal action as they have just buried their head hoping it will go away. We are reasonable people who expect to be treated the same, shame on you Formby Hall Golf Resort and Spa. You have my contact details.

To many agency staff on duty and it was a total shambles while we stayed here, food was ok afternoon tea was pathetic

Been here many times but yesterday’s visit to the restaurant was appalling. Seated at 7.30pm ordered drinks (water & glass of wine). Water was brought but no glasses , 20 minutes later still no glasses or wine. Starters served but no glasses for water. Later brought. Mains served, cooked to within an inch of their life! Could of broke a window with my brioche bun! Asked for wine 3 times. Finally served at 8.45. An hour and 15 minutes after ordering. Served warm (white) and subsequently sent back. Not the kind of service expected from a high end golf club. Very disappointed

From arrival to leaving everything was great!On arrival we were asked to check in via the app or sign in if that wasn't possible and our temperatures taken.The area for eating 'outside' was very well thought out. A marquee overlooking the golf course with open sides, socially distanced tables, heaters and we were even provided with blankets. Drinks were provided quickly while we looked at the menu of 'Small plates'. Great value for money at 3 for £15. The food once ordered arrived together and hot as we had ordered different plates. It was delicious. The chef has been thoughtful and the menu contained not just your usual standard tapas selection but some specials. Food was better than some of the tapas we have eaten elsewhere.Staff were attentive and a special thank you to Soner our waiter who made our experience memorable. He was always on hand when we wanted service .... a credit to this establishment.

Would give this zero stars if it would allow us to!! Can genuinely say this is the worst food we've eaten and by far the most abysmal customer service we've encountered!! (Apart from one young girl who was pleasant). We arrived at 11.30am as we'd seen the advertisement on Facebook about "popping in" for food, so we thought instead of going to our usual pre-covid breakfast establishments like Tipple, Harvour or Bar Mio in nearby Ainsdale (where we will stick to in future) we thought I know let's try Formby Hall. Surely quality is what you'd expect!! How wrong we were, I'm fairly sure The Little Chef could have produced better food and service. We ordered drinks, took 20 minutes for them to arrive. The coffees arrived stone cold, but we'd waited that long we downed them (literally, which isn't the idea with a hot drink!) the young waitress obliged and brought two hot coffees out shortly after!! Fair enough! We then waited another 20 minutes for the food, we ordered selection of pastries £6.95 for my eldest son (I'm kicking myself for not taking a picture of said pastries!!!, fairly hilarious thinking back), the three "hot" meals arrived, one bacon and egg on toasted bagel, one scrambled egg and smoked salmon on a toasted bagel, and one poached eggs and smoked salmon on a toasted bagel. The bagels could have easily been used as weapons in the Second World War, they were burnt but freezing and mine had been disguised with a layer of cream cheese, along with two hard poached eggs, and all three were stone cold, and I mean stone cold. We sent the meals back and 10 minutes later they were sent back out, this time the bagels were underdone and genuinely genuinely poor!!! It really isn't hard to create this simple breakfast, my 12 year old son cooks better!! Both my husband and I are key workers, and this is the first time in a year we had had the time to venture out, and it was a bjtter disappointment!! Im sorry we dont line your pockets like the golfers probably do day in day out, so we aren't a priority, but if your going to offer a service to the rest of us then you really do need to be improving on creating simple dishes and your customer service. We asked to see the manager to see what they could do about the bill. Manager obviously had better things to than speak to us, so sent a lady out who offered us 10% off the bill!!! Not even the cost of one meal! Apparently the food was cold because smoked salmon willmake the food cold and she quite clearly thought we were out for something free. So we paid the bill and left. If you take a look at my reviews you will see how positive they are for other establishments. This was genuinely the worst breakfast experience we have ever had the not so pleasure of encountering. What happened to customer service!! Shocking!!

We visited the restaurant as part of a spa break at Formby Hotel and unfortunately it really lets the whole place down. We pre-booked for 8pm, it was fairly busy but that is normal when ever we stay at hotels. We ordered a bottle of wine on arrival and after over an hour and asking our waiter 3 times we then went to ask ourselves at the bar to find there was none of that wine or anything similar available. One waitress said she had told us which is amazing considering she hadn’t been anywhere near us and unfortunately she decided to argue with my husband and call him a liar in the middle of the restaurant. The supervisor came over to apologise and we thought we would stick around for our meals as by this point we were very hungry. 2 meals that weren’t ours were then brought out and quickly taken away. Some time later our meals arrived and to our shock when we cut in to the beef it was ice cold in the middle like it had been frozen and not cooked through. The table next to us also had the same issue so off the meals went back in to the kitchen. By this point it was 9.40pm and as the evening was ruined and it was so late we decided to leave. No one checked if we needed anything and having no food/drink for close to 2 hours you would expect someone to notice. The restaurant is understaffed, they aren’t trained properly and no one was giving any direction. The experience in the restaurant was so poor it ruined what should have been a lovely spa break for my husbands birthday. The rest of the hotel and the staff on the front desk and the spa are fantastic but the restaurant lets the whole place down.

Second plate was freezing cold in the middle.Staff were arguing with me saying that they had been over to my table to tell us that the wine we ordered when we sat down was not in stock (called me a liar) Absolute horrendous customer service and I will never go back and will advise friends and family the same.

Had the tuna sandwich and obviously I was expecting a tuna sandwich. Asked for brown bread it came on white, but that wasn't the worst part! Where was the reason of the sandwich ??? I literally got half a sandwich on plate, usually a sandwich consists of a 2 full pieces of bread, I got half. Where the other halve of my sandwich go????. The cut it in quater so I got 2 quarters of sandwich!!! Absolutely shocking for nearly £8 I got half a sandwich! They don't decrive it as half a sandwich on the menu!!!!! Total disgrace if you are going to charge £8 for a sandwich I expect a full sandwich on a plate not half! I was starving after I got my half sandwich and had to go to mcdonalds after. Much better option.

Whoever runs the show is milking a reputation with total absence of experienced management. Zero hours staff trying hard but ineffective. Inflated prices which do not match local competition. Limited menu, quality and service average at best. No improvement over last year. Feel like getting in there and taking over, couldn’t do worse. Is the chef on zero hours too? Would not recommend at all which is a shame considering the setting/location.

Booked for family of 5. Don’t do help to eat out scheme for some bizarre reason.Staff are pleasant but out of their depth and training seems to be non existent. Poor management.Food best described as overpriced rubbish. Chicken Kiev is a chicken leg for £15! I was speechless.Can’t be bothered clearing tables or checking if everything is ok. Very slow to do anything, we spent a miserable 3 hours there.

Need to be really hungry to finish it but delicious. We had the 3 meat roast, cost was worth the extra.

I think there was a mix up with our order. Staff very apologetic and gave us free drinks and dessert as an apology. Staff very friendly.

Had a lovely stay at the hotel with included 2 course meal. Service was excellent with special thanks to our server Soner who was so bubbly and happy, made us laugh the whole night and ensured we had great service. All In all a lovely night!

Went today with a group of 9 people for Sunday lunch.The food was delicious. Had the roast and the potatoes were amazing as was the veg.Others had burgers chips, fish chips mushy peas again excellent!Really nice portions and the service was excellent!Special thanks to our lovely waiter Aiden. A credit to the restaurant.He was so helpful and charming. Like previous guests we too came for afternoon tea as a treat from my daughter at Christmas.We weren’t explained what was expected but asked what drinks we would like ie.tea,coffee,Prosecco or mulled wine.I didn’t know what was included in the price plus 2 of us were driving so we opted for hot drinks.When the food arrived it was so unappealing and what there was wasn’t worth the £15 a head...I questioned was this for 3 people and was told yes.You had 1 salmon quarter,1 cheese quarter, 1 beef & 1 unidentifiable filled tiny tortilla roll...I took 1 bite of the beef and the bread wasn’t fresh,& non of us like salmon...the cakes were tiny and we still didn’t have any drinks...We complained straight away and asked for the manager..We asked him if he thought that the food on our table was worth £45?..the manager said if they removed the Prosecco they would only charge £12 a head..which is confusing because it’s £15 a head plus an extra £3 for the alcoholic drink....I would avoid this place like the plague...we ended up at the Sparrowhawk next door which was lovely...Don’t believe the photos on their website it’s nothing like reality.

731423749Very disappointing. Brought my mum here for ‘Festive afternoon tea‘ that I had purchased on Wowcher. The festive afternoon tea was certainly not as advertised. None of the festive sweets were included apart from the mince pies - which were mainly just pastry. What they served was appalling. Some of the sandwiches had been thrown together and were dry. The cakes were tasteless. The scones were rock hard and we struggled to get a knife through them. The waitress agreed they were stale and offered to change them but by then the afternoon tea was ruined. When I questioned why we weren’t getting what we thought we were, we were informed that the menu we had seen was a sample menu. It did not state that anywhere. The waitress was really lovely and helpful but the tea was awful. It didn’t help that our hot drinks were left on the side waiting to be brought over by the time they arrived point they were lukewarm. Would not recommend or return, which is a shame because the venue was lovely as were most of the staff we encountered.

Our party of nine enjoyed Sunday lunch at the Fairway Grill but the food was somewhat unexceptional. The starters and puddings were good, however, the roasts were a bit bland and it was disappointing that there was no chicken or turkey on the menu - I had salmon with salsa verde which was served with the same accompaniments as the other roasts, including Yorkshire Pudding!! The restaurant is very spacious and comfortable but our table was somewhat separate from the main body of the room, which felt a little isolated and somewhat lacking in atmosphere. The highlight was the most excellent service, all the staff were lovely - very attentive and patient and nothing was too much trouble. Overall it was a good choice for a family get together.

Went for afternoon tea as a celebration for our parents special birthday. Despite booking a month in advance and calling to check details two days prior and also confirm 1 family members dietary requirements there was no table ready on arrival! Hot drinks order taken and they took around 20 minutes to arrive. No sugar and no staff to ask leaving us to wander around the restaurant to look for a sugar bowl from another table that the previous occupants had deserted. Confirmed dietary restrictions again. Eventually food arrived. Guest with egg intolerance presented a grated cheese sandwich and a ham sandwich along with a lemon custard tart and two other cakes! Clearly missing the point that those cakes have eggs in!! Clearly allergens not something trained or discussed with the staff. By this time the hot drinks were either finished or cold as we waited to enjoy our drinks with it sandwiches and cakes. After eventually seeking a staff member who all seemed extremely hard to come across we requested some more hot drinks and milk. No offer of any fizz to go with the afternoon tea!! After 30 minutes of waiting we gave up and decided to head home as there was more chance of getting a drink there than in this shambolic restaurant. We were clearly celebrating a birthday and a member of the golf course came over to us and wished congratulations which was lovely. However a comment was made regarding the lack of any service and the comment in return was that they are always shocking, service is poor and no one listens to the complaints anyway as nothing ever changes.In attempting to pay the bill it became even more of a shambles when I asked if the team member believed given the experience we had if they felt it was value for money, to be told yes it was! was told service was slow as the bar was busy!! GARBAGE, the bar was empty!!Having been presented with a bill for over £100 it was a disgrace with shocking service and a clear lack of leadership and any form of control let alone staff understanding what the basics ethics of customer service are all aboutAVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

We went here due to staying overnight, the restaurant was freezing because the air conditioning was on we did ask for it to be turned off which they did for all of ten minutes. I had sirloin steak that was to tough to cut and eat it was awful. The next day we had breakfast and I wouldn't rate that because I have had better elsewhere. Beware that on the A-la Carte menu there was a supplement which meant we ended up paying a lot more than we thought it did say on the menu but we never noticed. In all I was very disappointed seeing as was a birthday gift from my husband.

we ate here as was staying at hotel the fixed evening menu was limited but nice,we went al-a-cate for a birthday treat which was very nice and was served by a lovely young lady called mia now the breakfast was very very nice so much to choose from never seemed to run out and was very nice we left every morning feeling full.the only criticism the evening service seemed to be a bit slow we was seated at 8.00pm and was not served our 1st course until 8.40pm would also be nice if you could choose a dessert rather than a starter on the fixed menu.

Food and surroundings are as always great, and the service is usually excellent. But today the service, thanks to the amazing Laura, was phenomenal. Thank you, Laura you made my birthday dinner amazing !

The evening staff at the restaurant was lovely, chatty and always there to help! We got chatting to a man from Turkey his name was Soner he was amazing a real credit to the restaurant staff, always trying to help and checking if we need anything more. We was truly shocked when he told us he had only been working there for 1 and a half months because he is really good. The food was really nice I had a chicken, leek and bacon tart for starter and pork lion chop with potato’s for the main course which was also nice. My friend had the soup of the day for starter and then for main course breaded chicken and she enjoyed these also, the breckfast during morning time was delicious a lot to choose from and staff always on hand to help if needed, I loved my stay at this Hotel and I will 100% be coming back to visit again, thank you :)

We came here as a party of 5 for an evening meal. Firstly, we ordered some drinks at the bar and found the bar staff were a bit unfriendly and took a while to get our drinks but were talking amongst each other. The staff that served in the restaurant, including the manager, were much more pleasant and approachable. The place itself was clean with modern decor and a stylish atmosphere but it got very loud!

we had a 2 course meal included, the set options were limited, virtually all had supplements. Nothing was mentioned if you didn't want a starter and have dessert instead.

The nice views from the restaurant were the best thing of our meal. Visited as a part of the spa deal where we got a meal from a set menu. I’m allergic to a few things and also very fussy so a few weeks prior chose what I was going to have on the online set menu, however it was different when we arrived! This caused me a bit of stress. Food was average at best, a bit boring if I’m honest, and drinks over priced.

This is an excellent Restaurant. Food is extremely good and a nice menu to choose from all at very reasonable prices add to this a decent wine list again reasonably priced and great staff and you have to give it 5 stars

Myself and my Husband enjoyed Afternoon Tea here and it was lovely, the free glass of bubbly was a really nice touch.

From our lunch to our evening meal and breakfast ,the food and service was spot on no complaints at all.

At 3 in the afternoon the restaurant was almost empty. We were a large group and so this didn’t spoil the atmosphere for us. Gluten free afternoon tea is available. Everyone enjoyed the cakes and scones and the gluten free alternatives were also very good. The sandwiches didn’t go down as well. It’s probably personal taste but duck with hoisin sauce wasn’t enjoyed neither was smoked chicken with raw vegetables and lots of mayonnaise. The comment from the group was that there were no ordinary fillings which, for an older group, would have been preferred. When this was booked I was told we could have as much tea or coffee as we wanted but no one came to offer us more after the first cup and I had to get up to find someone. In all the afternoon was enjoyable but “ordinary” sandwich fillings and staff more attentive to filling up cups would have made it 5 stars.

I have to say this is the second time I have visited this restaurant and what a difference. Six of us went for Sunday lunch and the food was superb Val the matre de really had the place under superb control our server I think was called Lauren and she was so quick, pleasant and efficient. All of the meats chosen were cooked to perfection and the fresh vegetables were absolutely gorgeous, upon enquiry we were told that the chef is called Steve. Well done him and his team. Just try and leave room for a desert!!! If you want a beautifully cooked Sunday lunch in pleasant surroundings the Fairway Grill in Formby Hall Golf Club is the place to go.

Great golf course and the spa was nice according to the wives, however, the restaurant was dirty, the tables, cups, plates, glasses and cutlery needed to be cleaned properly. I went off to get clean glasses and cups and had to clean my cutlery before using it. We had to wait more than 30 minutes after our wives got their food and then it turned up wrong. Quite a few of the waiting staff are young and inexperienced, when asked how the food and service was I gave the senior person a frank review, to be fair to her she was very apologetic and discounted the bill. I would be cautious of eating there again it is a shame because all it needs is managing staff properly.

The food was of high quality and really well cooked. Service the night we ate in the restaurant was slow.

Me and my mum ate here as part of an overnight stay, we both had the beef which was gorgeous!! There was a great atmosphere in the restaurant with a singer and the staff where very friendly and attentive. Especially Elizabeth who couldnt do enough for us. Thanks again!

Although not normally a criticism, the food was initially too hot to eat! Service was poor and the staff inattentive.

Visited here today to celebrate a family members birthday. Firstly we had been sitting at the table for 30 mins without even being offered a drink. We eventually had to call somebody over else I think we would have still been waiting! When we did eventually get our order taken the waitress didn't have a clue what beers were on draft. I didn't want a roast dinner but was told there was no alternative menu on a Sunday. So as if we hadn't already got off to a bad start when the food did eventually arrive it was appalling. The beef was all fat and like leather and the veg was non existent. The only edible thing was the Yorkshire pudding. Very small selection of desserts too. So all in all terrible service and even worse food. Don't waste your time and money.

Staff were good and Dillon was happy and polite who served us. Breakfast is always excellent and plenty to choose from.

One of the best hotel restaurants I've been to. Inventive and varied menu, great wines and cocktails and a nice relaxed pace to the meal. Staff were professional, ambience great.

Good for a special occasion, though have also visited here for lunch, Sunday lunch and breakfast. Visited with friends for Christmas meal. 3 courses were delicious. Perhaps a bit pricier on drinks, but good for a treat. Servers very attentive.

The Fairway Grill restaurant is part of the Formby Hall Golf Hotel. Large modern dining area with views over the golf course. Service was slow to begin with but once we placed our order everything was served very quickly. The food we had was very nice particularly the pork steak that was mouthwatering. Nice staff.

Went on Sunday evening. Food dreadful, steak should have been medium, was rare. Grilled chicken, bland , small pot of pasta which I think was macaroni cheese out of tin, chips cold. Ordered off al a Carte though didn’t feel like it. One of our party had beef of which arrived with a huge burnt Yorkshire pud. Ordered a shandy which never came though appeared on bill. Asked for pure orange juice which we sent back as was diluted cordial to be told it was pure orange juice out of carton, must have been cheap product. The hotel lacked atmosphere and felt cold and empty. Staff did try their best am sure.

Very nice surroundings and view and the set menus are varied, with tasty food and good sized portions. Staff are pleasant and helpful and it was good value.

Excellent food at a great price and marvellous service especially the lovely Val, lovely position with views over the course. Just great !

Wouldn’t go again, food was bland and badly cooked. Steak was meant to b medium came out like a old leather boot!! Lovely surroundings just shame the food doesn’t match!!

Porque es un cambio reciente que de mala gana dejaron sentarse en el restaurante y comer del menú del bar. Un menú aburrido, comimos hamburguesas, pescado y patatas fritas y sobresaliente. Todos estaban bien, aunque mi pescado estaba seco y bien cocidas, pasta crujiente.

It took a few calls to get through to the Fairway Grill to book our table. We were lucky to call the day before and get a slot at 2pm. We arrived and were promptly shown to our table, with a drinks order taken. Drinks were quickly bought to the table followed by afternoon tea about 5 minutes later. The choice comprised of small cheese and chutney slider, egg sandwich, roast beef sandwich, scone with jam and cream, Victoria sponge, chocolate sponge, walnut? sponge and macaroon. The bread was a little dry, it was evident that trays had been premade. The cakes were lovely and moist. I am rating this experience as a 4 due to the lack of checkback from waiting staff. I was only offered a refill on my drink about an hour and a half after arriving, when my drinks had been empty for more than quarter of an hour. Decent afternoon tea for the price, much cheaper than alternatives in Liverpool and a lovely setting overlooking the green.

Although the food was lovely the customer service skills were suprsingly really bad, waited nearly an hour for our first drinks, had finished starters before they even came to the table or anyone acknowledged that we had asked three Waitresses as to where they were without so much as an apology for the wait, we were never asked would we like anymore Drinks in the whole time we were there. For such a well known business it deffinetly lacks customer service and I fail to see how they cope with busy periods as it was fairly empty when we visited.

I was amazed that the chef did not know how to make a cheese and tomato sandwich.

Saturday lunchtime 3 or 4 tables having afternoon tea ond only one other table having lunch, lots of empty tables, plenty of staff milling about but the service was exceptionally poor and when we asked what a "Piegettie" was she said.."i think its a baguette"...after we all looked amazedly at her she eventually said.."Ill go and find out" !!! It was a shame as the food was excellent. All the young staff need training in customer service skills, they need some supervision and someone to organise them...right at the end a blonde haired young man arrived with our coffees and he seemed a bit more switched on. Another point i would make is one of our party asked for a pot of tea and got a cup if tea already brewed..ie teabag already removed and quite strong..if that was me i would have snt it back as too strong....not normally served like that anymore unless you are in a canteen.

Stayed overnight had 3 course meal for included in package.the food was amazing lovely staff and relaxing atmosphere we definitely visit again.food cooked to perfection one of nicest meals ever had.

Great location overlooking the 18th and the large breakfast is amazing. Great value too. My gripe is the staff behind the bar and who serve as well-they need to find a personality and remember who pays their wages! I heard another man complaining about waiting too long as well...but as for the food and location it’s 5 star!! Worth trying.

We visited on an experience voucher so had dinner & breakfast in this restaurant, dinner was chicken from the grill and a lamb roast dinner, lamb wasn’t that good but the chicken was nice, we ordered sides that didn’t arrive until halfway through the meal so they were removed from the bill, overall the food was ok, the view was of the golf course which is lovely and the service was excellent, breakfast was lovely very big choice and the cooked breakfast was very good all cooked wonderfully, would return for a breakfast but maybe not dinner as there wasn’t the biggest selection of dishes on offer

2nd visit as good as the first,This time we had the main meal which was the roast of the day (beef) followed by some very nice sweets (vanilla bean cheesecake with raspberry compote)(sticky toffee date pudding) while they were a bit on the small side they were still very good

We ate dinner here as part of our package. We had meal & wine included and asked for water with our meal - how difficult can it be to provide water? Very, apparently - they did, eventually, but getting it topped up proved nearly impossible.......

We thought we would give this place a try as they had a offer of 2 courses for £16.50 or 3 for £19.50.

Had a 3 course meal as part of our stay and the food was excellent. Had the afternoon tea and also the breakfast. Enjoyed all.

Visited in between Christmas and new year. Food was nice but very limited menu and ran out of a lot on the menu especially all the fish dishes. Service very slow, some staff standing around doing nothing while empty plates on tables and people with menus waiting to order.

Myself and my Partner booked a deal at a great price. Upon arrival we were welcomed by the Spa Staff and taken to the dining area for our welcome drinks. We were served free coffee & mince pies by a Lovely lady, I forgot her name but she had blonde hair in a bob cut and she went above and beyond for us during our stay !!! We then visited the Luxurious Spa and received our body scrub treatment, the room was Beautiful, the Therapists were Fab and very friendly. It was such a relaxed atmosphere. We then checked into our room and were Amazed. Very Spacious, very modern and very classy. The Bathroom was equally as impressive, a HUGE bath, private toilet room, and a power shower. We even had 2 sinks and a huge mirror. We opted for ground floor (as we are smokers) and were delighted that our room had French Windows leading to our very own little ground floor 'terrace' which is SO MUCH BETTER than vacating our room to go to the exits to have a cigarette. The room was warm upon arrival, and we had an optional plug in heater which INSTANTLY warmed the room again after we'd had the door open. We dined in the new Bar Grill and the food was outstanding. I am a very very very fussy eater and the Staff were very understanding and accommodating. Top service and Quality food. We then had drinks in the bar, my Cocktail was up there with one of the best ones I've had ! There were two staff members who really went above and beyond for us, Fudge & Annabelle. They were friendly, helpful, happy and just made our night. Helping us get 'the right photo' - Checking we were okay / needing any more drinks etc, and just generally making time to talk to us and make us feel welcome. This is EXACTLY what ALL hotels and the Staff should be like !!!! HUGE Thank You to Fudge & Annabelle (I did inform the Receptionist upon Checkout who said if I mention their names on Tripadvisor they will be rewarded - so here's my review) - Bedtime, the bed was HUGE and exceptionally comfy. The curtains were blackout so no light disturbed our sleep. Breakfast - WAW - Absolutely delicious. So much variety and really nice meats / breads / cereals. Something for everyone. The Gentleman on the hot plate section was so Friendly, wish I knew his name too. Once we checked out we were allowed to use all Spa Facilities for a second day, for as long as we liked. There really isn't one bad thing about this venue. The best we've visited - not just the facilities / food - it was the Staff. EVERY SINGLE staff member we approached / saw was happy, helpful, kind and SMILING !!!!! I will be back again, and I've told everyone about this Treasure of a venue - Thank You !!! x

We returned to Formby Hall after a year's break for our annual old school chums get together. Unusually for this...

I was regular visitor in Formby Hall.The food usually was good before but after all renovation I m not going...

Mixed grill consisted off two undercooked sausages full of gristle, tiny piece of steak which was 70% fat and a piece of gammon the size of a bacon medallion, had a dessert as was still hungry, this came out and it was basically a mr Kipling's slice with abit of ice cream. Heard lots of other people complaining about the food also. We had to prop table up with a napkin as it was not stable, also couple next to us had same problem. Disappointing ......

Our first visit to the restaurant since it's refurb earlier this year. Must admit I prefer the old décor and furniture. The new chairs have a low sloping back which is not what you want when eating a meal. Also with most of the carpet removed it's a bit noisier than before. The food as ever was excellent and a reasonable cost £19.95 for a 3 course lunch however I thought the wine was a little expensive at £6.60 a glass. We were a party of 8 and booked for 12.30 but it was gone 3 when we left, this was mainly due to the slow service which is probably because of low staffing levels. We would return again as the food and outlook from the restaurant were as good as ever.
