food is amazing saw some previous reviews saying the service was bad from people who expect things for free its a bussiness nothing is free evolve and move on! you get what you pay for you want authentic chinese food then eat here. you want to be pandered to and be treated as royalty go elsewhere

The food was delicious, but the experience was soured by the behavior of the owner, who was rude and domineering. We witnessed her publicly berate and embarrass her staff over minor mistakes, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere for everyone around. She barely acknowledged customers waiting to be seated, curtly calling out “3 people” and ordering her staff to prepare a table before walking away. This, combined with a service charge after an error in our order—one she blamed on us while scolding her staff—ensures we won’t be returning. On a positive note, the man behind the bar was kind, handling our bill with professionalism and apologising on her behalf. The owner is sat on a gold mine but she needs to sort her behaviour out and learn some manners. I hope she reads this and turns herself into a better person.

Have been to this restaurant a few times and the food has great, it was tonight but the service was poor. Waited ages for the food to be ordered and it was generally chaotic service for the whole restaurant. We therefore refused to pay the service charge but told the owner that the food was great. All the owner had to say was sorry but instead we got a tirade of abuse. Needless to say we won't be returning. I suspect they have taken on too much with opening a second restaurant.

Absolutely incredible and authentic Chinese food. The Dim Sum selection was extraordinary. We took advice and tried new dishes and now have new favourites. We will be back soon from Wales.

Can not fault the food, it was delicious however i found the level of service we received was really poor. Not nearly enough staff for the amount of people sat, long time waiting around for the bill. Family was left waiting in the door way for 15min before being spoken to. People waiting around for takeaways with only two people serving! I have really enjoyed this place before but this time not great.

I am deeply disappointed by Kungfu Kitchen after we found they charge for tap water and the manager was very rude and confrontational when we asked them about it. Apparently it's to cover the cost of washing the glass but they charge 50p for each glass. A licensed venue is legally mandated to serve free tap water and their argument is that it's not in breach of that but how do you drink a jug of tap water between family members? Are we supposed to drink straight from the jug like animals? Also, as we were going to dine as a family, the total bill would have covered the washing costs of any glasses we would have used. Washing is only going to be a loss to the business if that's all they ever did for you. This is very questionable business practice and they just lost the custom of a whole family for not just this one evening, but forever. We won't be recommending this restaurant to any of our friends and colleagues either.

This was our first visit but it won’t be the last! The menu is huge and full of interesting authentic dishes…. We chose relatively conservatively for a first visit but all the food was great…, A couple of comments; the prawn crackers were fairly dull and without a dip to cheer them up and expensive at £4 Secondly the rice arrived very late after the dishes. Slightly weird and we did have to ask… However the starter platter was good , especially the squid and the other dishes were great. Double cooked pork, chilli beef, Seabass and chicken with a mountain of chilli peppers! And there is so much more to try…:

So after 5 years… This place def still gets 5/5. The food quality - amazing, the value for money - amazing, the hostess n family — amazing. Every time we go, we feel like we are @ second home, with jo remembering our very different spice preferences, meat n semi vegetarian options and wine requirements. We have moved 20 mins drive away but still go once a month! Can’t wait for the new restaurant to open..

It was our first visit to this place. We went with friends who had been there before We had a wonderful experience. The food and service were excellent and we will definitely return. Thank you Jo and Steven.

After reading the reviews of this lovely place I decided to take the plunge and visit for myself am so glad I did . The food , people , atmosphere and the service is second to none , I will be back soon

Service was all over the place. All dishes arrived at the same time, starter and mains, rice 15 minutes after. Drinks did not arrive. Food was average, not any better than any other chinese restaurant. It was expensive. The food was served on stained plastic plates. Not a great experience. Wont be going back. Where all the rave reviews cane from is beyond me.

Having lived in China (great Chinese food everywhere) and London (can find it if you look hard enough ) was absolutely overjoyed to finally find genuine Chinese food in Reading. Having sampled other "Chinese" restaurants in the area, tried Kung Fu kitchen and got the real deal. Freshly prepared dishes with authentic ingredients. My wife and I had the pork in sweet bean sauce with pancakes and two spicy beef dishes. Each was delicious. Service was excellent and rapid. Top notch.

Second visit and superb Chinese would never be my pick of restaurant, but I’m wrong superb food lots of it and great hosts in Joanne and Steve and of course the main man Richard who holds it all together. One not to be missed and be now one off my go to stops.

This was the second time I visited but the last time I left without any food and was during lunch service. The restaurant is always so chaotic, the lady owner told me blank that she was too busy to talk to me. They all ran around like a headless chicken. We set there for 35 mins and no one took order even for a drink or offer us a glass of water. We asked twice if someone can take our order, it was always a promise of will be back in a minute. At 25mins a chap took half of our order then walked off. We could hear lady owner shouting at everyone in the kitchen in Gordon Ramsey style. So we left after wasting 35mins as had to go back to work and school pick up. No one even apologised to us. Similar experience on my first time visit but at least we got some food. The twice cooked pork and the shredded beef was both overcooked and dried. Sorry I had to say I won’t recommend despite all other reviews. They need more staff and less stressy environment.

Best Asian food in Berkshire. The chefs are fantastic and Jo and Steve the owners do an amazing job making everyone feel welcome. Portion size is massive and the food is so authentic Don’t change a thing!!

The exterior is unassuming, but this restaurant serves up authentic dishes from Southern China. This is the type of food I have loved on visits to China and never found in the UK. This is nothing like the usual Chinese restaurant, so don’t be surprised to find it more expensive than most similar looking places. However the food more than justifies the price - I would think nothing of paying significantly more in a fancier place.

Kung Fu kitchen is a Reading gem, Second visit and I just loving trying the different and authentic menu they have. Every dish ordered so fresh and full of flavour. The menu is so varied and very generous portions, satisfying both the meat eaters and vegetarian in our party. I love Joanna hospitality & enthusiasm for traditional food and Steven’s beer choice, with local brewery beers even being on tap on our visit. The best Chinese restaurant in Reading.

This was the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. Jo the owner with her husband Steve are great hosts. Jo’s a character (in a good way ).

We were surprised that the server refused to provide an extra cup to share a pot of tea. Instead of calmly informing us their policy on sharing drinks, the manager (I believe her name is Joanna) decided to needlessly aggravate the situation further by insulting us loudly in an attempt to humiliate us in front of the other customers, creating an extremely uncomfortable situation for everyone who heard her insults. I tried to defuse the situation and kindly paid for the tea as we had started drinking it. I would not recommend anyone to go to this restaurant if they plan on sharing food and drink, and I hope that the restaurant considers reviewing their communication strategies in the future. It is concerning to see a manager displaying such unprofessional behaviour, abusing their position of authority.

Not been to a Chinese Restaurant in a while. So glad we came to Kungfu Kitchen. Great atmosphere and then you see the menu. Wow what a range of interesting food to choose from. Love Chinese dumplings , chicken wings wow and lamb rib . Oh my good never had Lamb taste so good . Not your normal Chinese food I remember. Got to try the Chinese ice cream . And then the staff are so good . The husband and wife partnership is fantastic. Joanna was amazing. Definitely be back soon .

Its so good to eat at a Chinese heavily biased towards dishes that would be served back home. Good range of Northern Chinese recipes backed of course by the old favorites. Portions quite large too so every time we go eat there we end up taking same home (they give you takeaway box’s so you can choose what to). We tried Beef and tripe in chilli oil (cold dish) and that was amazing as well as the more typical spare ribs (as a main), delicious ribs too. Sweet-n-sour Sea bass was presented in a way you have to ask yourself how do they do that?

Just after New Years, celebrating wedding anniversary, and decided we were craving Chinese Takeaway. Didn’t want to go to the usual local Chinese takeaway (that also specialises in fish and chips), so after some tripadvisor, google, searching, we settled on KungFu Kitchen. We were not disappointed. The ordering experience was excellent, with good advice on what was what, and timing for pickup. This was nothing compared to the quality of the food we got. The sweet and sour aubergine was probably the best aubergine dish we have ever tasted (and I cook a LOT of aubergine). The Singapore Style Rice and Vermicelli (2 different dishes) were exactly as they should be. The stir fried pork, stir fry PakChoi, Sichuan Style fried chicken and Kung pao king prawns were all superb and had such distinctive individual flavours... hands down, the best Chinese meal we have ever had in the UK. Hoping to become takeaway regulars, and when things get back to normal, hoping to actually have a real meal there.

We’ve recently started ordering from here and the food is the the best Chinese cuisine we’ve ever had.You can really taste how they put their heart and soul into every dish. Both of the owners are very helpful and friendly, we cannot wait to visit in person after the lockdown ends.

Una gran experiencia desde nuestra primera visita a KFK. Lo hemos leído una y otra vez, y finalmente lo probamos. Era un lunes por la noche, así que el restaurante no estaba lleno, Jo, la dueña, tenía mucho tiempo para cuidarnos, y lo hizo muy bien. No estábamos muy seguros de qué cantidades pedir, pero sus recomendaciones pronto nos pusieron en marcha. La comida llegó rápidamente, no porque hubiera estado ahí, sino porque estaba recién hecha. Jo se ofreció gustosamente a ajustar las especias a nuestro gusto. Un servicio tan amable, nos sentimos como parte de la familia. Sin duda la mejor comida china que he probado. Sabores maravillosamente equilibrados, porciones generosas y excelente servicio. Tuvimos otra excelente comida para llevar de Kungfu Kitchen a principios de este mes. La comida consistió en nuestros dos platos favoritos: berenjena agridulce, pollo kung po y dos nuevos favoritos: pak choi con carne de res con ajo y pimienta negra. Con arroz y galletas de gambas comimos cuatro muy bien. Esta fue la primera comida de Kungfu para nuestros amigos con los que compartimos la comida y sospecho que no será la última, ya que ellos también pensaron que la comida era excelente.

Fabulous Chinese dinner this evening. The dumplings are a must, and the Szechuan noodles are incredible, and freshly made on the premises. All the dishes tasted amazing and authentic. Portions are very generous, and the staff are passionate and extremely helpful. Would definitely recommend.

Tan pronto como volvieron a abrir para comer, comí en el restaurante y desde entonces he comido allí con regularidad. Siempre me hacen sentir bienvenido y la comida es siempre excelente. Me siento muy afortunado de tener un restaurante tan bueno a solo 25 minutos a pie de casa.Probar diferentes platos de Sichuan y Shandong ha sido una revelación. Las porciones son grandes, por lo que un plato con arroz es una comida sustancial. Destacan las berenjenas agridulces y la ternera salteada con comino. También me gustó la coliflor cocida a la plancha que puedes comer con cerdo u otra carne o como plato vegano. El tofu mapo fue un desafío porque es muy picante pero vale la pena probarlo al menos una vez, con mucho arroz y tal vez una cerveza Tsingtao que pensé que iba particularmente bien con él. Es notablemente más picante que el tofu hogareño salteado medio picante al que me inclino a seguir en el futuro.

The restaurant is just a mess. Food hygiene rating is THREE. We were seated and had to ask for all basic stuff from Napkins to utensils. The owner lady eated to rush us out. Finally the food was not grwat at all. No idea how this restaurant has a 5* ratibg.

I have found my new favourite restaurant. Kungfu Kitchen not only offers an interesting menu and a lively atmosphere but also pairs it with fantastic, friendly service. Although they were super busy, we felt very looked after. The advice we were given based on our preferences was spot on and the food we had was fresh and very very tasty. My partner proclaimed that it was the best chinese that they had ever had (a huge call considering we have eaten at A.Wong). We are already planning our return visit.

I very rarely find Chinese food I enjoy but I loved the food here. My wife was recommended this place by her colleague at the University of Reading. We visited twice and it was 10/10 both times. Great and friendly service, even when it's busy, the owner goes above and beyond to provide recommendations and make sure you enjoy your meal. It's very evident that she works so hard to provide her customers exceptional food and service. It was really delicious, I would very highly recommend Kung Fu Kitchen to all.

We were at this restaurant on Saturday 25th July and I have to say the food was absolutely delicious, the best Chinese we have ever had! We had the chicken wings for starters, the braised belly pork, hot and spicy ribs, salt and pepper ribs, Singapore fried rice and egg fried rice for mains, with brown sugar and taro bubble tea for dessert. We would definitely recommend this restaurant and thank the owners for an amazing experience!Can't wait to visit again when we are in the area!

After a friend posted his eat-in meal this evening I couldn’t resist any longer. Another divine take away meal with excellent cuts of meat and generous portions. Unfortunately Google doesn't allow me to rate zero stars. Have been being their customer for 9 months, but I have decided never to order anything from this restaurant anymore today. This is what happened:I was around that area to visit some friends and decided to order some takeaway. So I texted the owner as I always did (it is the preferred way by them) for some dishes and drink and asked when I could pick them up. No reply for 15mins until I called them. Then being told that I needed to wait for 45mins, and then changed to 1hr after 1min. I couldn't stay there for that long as I had my young kids with me, so told the owner to cancel the order 3mins after she told me about the waiting time. And I said I was very sorry about the inconvenience caused. After I arrvied home, I found I received FIVE messages from her saying I WASTED her time because I kept changing my mind, and caused her so much trouble to tell her chef about the cancellation! This is unbelievable! I never see any business owner treat their (regular) customers like this! I complained about her attitude, and she said she had been VERY CONSIDERATE to accept my order with such SHORT NOTICE. I was told that other customers all ordered their dinner at lunch time. This is rediculous! I would be totally fine if she told me that they were too busy to take my order at the beginning. The way she dealt with a customer is so rude!

Felt very uncomfortable sitting here. The lady was very rude to us and wanted us to leave because we told the manager that she was being racially abusive towards myself and my 13 year old daughter. While sat here the lady was very nice to every other customer but us because we were the only different colour sat in there. Won’t be eating here again

Ordered our first delivery from Kungfu Kitchen today and its up there with the best Chinese food we’ve ever had. Great flavours and some really unusual dishes. The Sichuan Chicken and Pork in Fish Sauce are amazing and the portions are also huge. Outstanding.

I’ve visited and been to a lot of Chinese restaurants and this by far was one of the best. Excellent service in the current circumstances. But the most amazing part was the food, the fried rice and the king prawns with tofu was very nice. I can’t wait to return and order again. The food was excellent!!!

Like no Chinese food I have had before. The tofu was fragrant, almost perfumed. The pak choi had some crunch and the fish fragrant aubergine was incredible. Can't wait to order from them again.The prices may seem a bit higher than some but the portions were big.

We have eaten here regularly and were pleased to find the takeaway experience was just as good. The garlic shoots and pork and sweet and sour aubergine are regular favourites, but the new dishes we tried out of Shandong style chicken and beef with cumin were exceptional. Have never seen anything like the beef and cumin dish before in a Chinese restaurant and it made a great combination. We ordered big for 4 people and enjoyed the leftovers next day for lunch. Booked ahead for delivery and the food arrived freshly cooked and hot. A great local restaurant worth supporting while the lockdown is in operation.

The previous reviewers are absolutely right: this is a real Chinese kitchen, fresh, both spicy and delicate, full of new flavours. , cooked and served with pleasure by a wonderful hostess. She even makes fresh noodles! It lifted our spirits up in these difficult days of lockdown! And all we want to do now is get another takeaway soon.! Highly recommended !
