Kothel in Glasgow City

We had coffee and cake there recently. The cakes were superb as was the coffee. Very good service too. Nice atmosphere and busy.

The food was OK, but quality is on the decline. The scone was dry, the croissant tasteless and they put chocolate on the cappuccinos while we asked not to. The staff was rude and made clear that we should not stay too long. We used to like the place, but we won't come back.

Was served today by Sascha and the service was phenomenal! We felt well looked after and he was always making sure everything was okay, we had the best time yet and he is a credit to Kothel. Thank you Sascha!

Probably the best roll and bacon in Glasgow! Crispy roll with plenty of butter and bacon, love this place.. Sit in for a breakfast roll and a hot drink for only £5.50 in the west end, brilliant value, great atmosphere and I would highly recommend!

A delightful cafe, we sat at a tiny table and a waitress immediately asked us for our order. we had sandwiches and I, a chai. my friend a double espresso. both served in sweet little tea cups. Well worth the visit.

Weird place. Mish mash of faux boho chic decor, not exactly comfortable to sit in. Staff are hit and miss and appear to have a random attitude towards charging. £3.80 for a small americano this week. It was £3 last week. Not sure how they can justify either price. Unfortunately not many other options nearby are open before 9am. The outside seating area is decent though with a covered section.

First visit but will be back. Walked with dog. Friendly welcome and lovely breakfast. Salmon croissants and great tasting coffee. Great variety of seating options in or outside. Welcoming to dogs too.

Visited Kothel on Crow Road on Thursday with my daughter and we were not disappointed. There is a fantastic selection of cakes and sandwiches in a beautiful setting. Would like to say an extra thank you to our waitress Hanna who went the extra mile to make our lunch even more pleasant! Will be back very soon.

Visited with my hubby and dog for a chilled dog friendly brunch. Staff acknowledged they were short staffed from the outset to manage expectations. But the staff were so lovely and doing a great job! Food was nice, atmosphere was chill. Nice was to soak up a Sunday in the west end!

Purchased three items including a filled croissant sandwich for take away. By the time we got home we discovered we'd been given just a croissant even though charged for the full sandwich. Unable to go back to get this resolved without ruining our lunch. And our supposedly toasted sandwiches were stone cold! Very poor.

Painfully slow service and the staff have been very rude to us on several occasions. The coffees and cakes are nice enough, but there is much better quality if you walk 10-15 minutes along to Partick or Hyndland.

I went to the Kothel South branch on Battlefield Road with my partner (not listed on TripAdvisor as of Feb 2024). She ordered the Kypros bruschetta, which had halloumi, aubergine, and hummus. The halloumi was overcooked, and the aubergine was served cold from the fridge on the warm sourdough bread, which took all the heat from the meal and made the bread soggy and unappetising. The main flavour was the houmous, otherwise it was bland and lacking. I ordered the Alex bagel, Mexican chicken with humous, red peppers, and cheese. The chicken had no seasoning or flavour at all, and the bagel was 80% a blob of melted cheese, with no red peppers or houmous to be found. Flavourless, bland, poor quality ingredients, nothing that couldn't be rustled up at home with cheap supermarket filler, not remotely worth the price. The young staff (who were polite and friendly) seemed to be making the food, perhaps their inexperience or poor training effected the quality of the product. For the price, eating here really is a rip-off.

Overpriced for the quality of food. Very poor service, no sugars brought with coffees then after asking had to wait ages for it. Menu does not state that tuna ciabatta is served hot. Food accompanied with salad but no condiments on the table. Waiting staff looked uninterested.

I’ve really tried and given this place numerous tries as it’s local but so far it’s matched other recent reviews which is a shame. One occasion it was the wrong takeaway order (didn’t realise until having left when opening the food), another was ordering then being told to wait outside and being forgotten about, the next was popping in an hour before closing on an evening with a pal- despite the place being empty the staff just kept chatting amongst themselves then when trying to order a takeaway coffee we were told they’d already switched the machine off, the next instance was ordering a single takeaway coffee (waiting inside to avoid being forgotten about this time)- waiting 10 mins to find out they’d misplaced the receipt with the order so no one was progressing it and lastly going in asking what worked allergen wise ordering what they said was fine for me- started eating at home realised quickly it wasn’t (even checked their website to be sure) and that’s the food in the bin. Recently there looks to be friendlier staff which is hopeful! However overall my expeience has been the staff really don’t want to be there, errors happen frequently and the price just doesn’t justify the service. I really do hope it improves as like most I want to support local but not where it’s a gamble everytime you go in.

Nice place to stop for a good coffee and cake, especially if weather is good and you can sit outside.

The soup was great but the portion sizes were shocking for the price and the cakes are underwhelming. The red velvet tasted of nothing and the pistachio croissant had far too much filing to me enjoyable. The waitress was cold and unhelpful.

Im definitely not a penny pincher and been coming here for years, but your prices now are ridiculous! Nearly £8 for an average sized cup of caramel latte ,£6 for a coffee, and a pot of tea is £6!!! Come on Kothel , this is broomhill in glasgow, not london !! How are these prices justifiable? Will be going elsewhere for a coffee, till your prices become affordable in a cost of living crisis.

I used to love this place, but I went for coffee & a croissant today & it was awful. The staff were friendly or it would get 1/5. This dinner plate sized of pale croissant shaped dough appeared with tepid coffee. Terrible quality & tasted like damp bread. I sat outside on this cold, but bright day & the table was filthy. Not spillage, but it had rained overnight & the grime hadn't been washed off. Got a big old stain on my lovely cream jumper from the muck. It's on a main road, so magnet for all that passes. Never again.

Came here again and nothing had changed. Do they go out pf their way to employ rude staff? In with family and had to order at the bar, pay at the bar. Not a smile nothing actually going out their way to be rude. Such a shame as it’s a great spot and food is nice enough. Rude people. Also the place is dirty again, come on, sweep the floor, tidy the tables!

We were looking forward to visiting Kothel at Battlefield for the first time having enjoyed eating at GWRd and Broomhill in the past. Staff were friendly and cheery but as a scone afficionado it was a huge disappointment to be served a very stale warm scone. Surely it's not hard to have a supply of fresh scones with the price we're now expected to pay.

We received poor service and food was not as the menu stated. I received a very watered down soup but my parent did not. We were looking forward to our visit but it was over priced and not enjoyable.

Service was very slow (Crow Road branch) Took an age to take our order. Food was fine. The cafe closes at 7. At 6.20 our fairly lackadaisical waiter approached us and suggested that we should pay as the cafe was closing soon, and added in quite a passive-aggressive that we’d been sitting for ages and hadn’t paid. This is true as we were chatting and had been ordering a few things throughout our stopoff at this cafe, on the assumption that we’d settle up before we left. The place was not at all busy btw. Lazy, unfriendly service.

A touch of the Med in the heart of Glasgow. My Focaccia Caprese was superb oozing sun dried tomatoes. Topped off with a fabulous cappuccino. Chilled, relaxed, with superb staff.

Kothel is always busy when I go past and as I had time on my hands, so I went for a coffee and cake. Service was friendly. The coffee arrived and it was very good. The cake, not so good. It was a bit dry and past it's best. Perhaps understandable as they are stored uncovered all day.

Overpriced and underwhelming. Food not great, I’m a small eater and was hunger when left. Will not be back which is a shame as we were looking forward to visiting.

On a recommendation we tried Kothel for lunch. Unfortunately I ordered a salad which arrived without any hummus which was the main part of the dish. I thought perhaps they had simply forgot to add it, so asked the waitress who quite bluntly told me they didn’t have any. I am unsure what they thought I was paying for when I ordered it or why they didn’t mention it when I placed the order. The worst part was there was not even any kind of apology for the fact they had charged me for a salad that was missing the main ingredient on the menu and a look of disbelief when I expected a refund. It is sad that what could be a lovely place, is wasted by bad service and an attitude that suggests that the customer is always wrong.

Third visit over several years and it just goes from bad to worse. On last visit the service was awful and they missed half our order. On this visit, the waitress was oblivious to us and had to be called over, she then disappeared to find out the type of soup, never returned. Proceeded to serve three other tables with their bills and cleared another. We stood up and left. Note they have reduced their menu to different sandwiches, pretty basic. Two gentlemen at the adjoining table, said they hoped we weren't in a hurry, as they too had noted the poor service.

Lovely café, americano hit the proverbial spot. However, specially ordered non-dairy birthday cake was too dry - perhaps baked the previous day- despite generous icing. Looked great, though

Visited new Battlefield Kothel for brunch this morning and what a massive disappointment. Fit out and colour scheme is well designed and looks great addition to local cafe scene, however service was very poor - waited 40 mins for a Ciabatta and granola with fresh fruit and Greek yoghurt. The granola dish cost £6.85 - had 1 strawberry and 8 blueberries - appalling value - and ciabatta was likely a few days old as was dry and difficult to eat. Cappuccino was not bad. Unfortunately won’t be back and would not recommend.

Had lunch with friends here . I had soup and it was hearty and lovely . Would have liked a sandwich to go with it but the selection of fillings are very limited,and wasn’t to my taste . Friends had sweeter options and all ate them , . One had pancakes and there were 3 - lovely and thick and freshly made, Served with a syrup but also served with smoked bacon and icing sugar on top , which I thought was a strange combination. Coffees were lovely .

Plenty of space indoors and out, choice of shade or sun, very relaxed vibe. Great coffee, nice brunch, good gluten-free options including all their delicious toasties and some of their cakes. We keep returning, it's always just right for us. Lovely staff

Terrible service, terrible food. They tried to deliver other tables food for at least 3 times. One person joined us later has received his food first but it was the wrong order, so they took it back but after 1 minute a guy came back with the same dish and left it there. We then questioned where our food was and it came out that they lost the order. Food was bad, my focaccia caprese was a toasted focaccia with heated mozzarella tomato and pesto, it was just awful! Not an apology but the asked for a tip. Hahaha I hope this place it is going to close soon, they don’t deserve a spot in the west end! I am so annoyed of spending £52 for something so dreadful.

After dropping the wee man off at Nursery, my wife and I made the most of the time as a duo and went out for Breakfast. To be honest, the menu didn’t really fill me with excitement - nothing of the savoury variety really jumping out. In the end, I chose a Cappuccino with a large slice of Victoria Sponge. Although a tad early for Cake, I thoroughly enjoyed both, especially the Coffee. My wife opted for a Water and Waffles with Fruit. She did have to send the Waffles back because they weren’t heated enough and rock hard to cut into. On the second occasion however, she had no complaints. Overall, a mixed bag during our visit - many things hitting the spot but others a bit of a let down. A 3/5 rating is about right.

Dog-friendly, which is extremely important. My dog even got treated to a plate of bacon upon request (we paid for it of course). As for the human food, I enjoyed a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel. Very nice.

Great set up. Love that there are tables outside and the service has been good both times I’ve been. I had bruschetta the first time and a greek panini the second.
