Koh Thai Tapas in Bournemouth

I have tried this restaurant three times and I really want to love it but I do not. My opinion it is over priced and mediocre. The chicken Pad Thai has large tastless and tough pieces of chicken mixed in with very mediocre noodles. It does not have delicious complex taste but more a dehydrated package with chicken added. The curry is also underwhelming and their version of Tom Yum Kha soup is definately way overpriced with none of the typical spicy and sour flavors present. It was a lame coconut soup, bo lemongrass. In my opinion I would try another restaurant that is way more authentic.

Great food and lovely decor but service wasn’t great considering they were quiet. Drinks for kids were charged and starter order messed up and the wrong veg on the kids meal as to wha was advertised! Too long wait for food as one of two tables - had to ask where it was!

Delicious food, very good service. However, the ambience was spoiled by a dog belonging to a man in the corner. The dog frequently barked loudly and worse, it pulled its very heavy duty steel chain across the floor and across its steel bowl. The noise was horrendous -- and frequent. An evening largely spoilt.

We came to Koi Thai for our date night.. the food and atmosphere was amazing!.. but a lot of places have that, what is more important to us is the service and at Koh Thai Bournemouth it was second to none! Extremely friendly and warming on arrival and throughout the evening.. Zac was our waiter and he went above and beyond to make sure we were looked after very well, he is definitely in the right industry and has the qualities of top notch customer service to work anywhere in the world. Thank you Zac for an amazing evening.

Every dish has a Thai flavor, and I particularly like their fried noodles. The ingredients are well proportioned and very tasty.

This place is not only beautiful, but the food is delicious and the tea is truly magical. I absolutely enjoyed everthing about this restaurant!

Before I start I have to say I chose a Time that the restaurant was empty I have to say though that the decor and the ambience of the place was very endearing and a pleasant evening could be hard here either as a couple or a larger party service was attentive as I would expect with an empty restaurant, but the reason for my choice of coming up this time of day was the sole base myself on the food and the taste as the place was completely empty would have to still perform in a cold kitchen as opposed to the heat of the battle in a busy middle of the evening . I have to say that the starter of dim sum were very disappointing very bland very little texture and if anything a little bit slimy and sticky I would suggest they perhaps look to trying giggling squid 🦑 moving on to the Tom Yum soup I have to say it was delightful in flavour texture. My only one criticism is portion size to most people. This would be a ridiculously large bowl of soup. The rice bowl that came with the rice in would be a much more suitable size for what would be speciality – equally fine in size and not as oh, that was presented before me. Duck with the sweet-and-sour glaze which again was absolutely delightful beautiful texture you beautiful taste but again I would say portion size some people would devour this huge piece of duck but I just found it again a little overwhelming but in a sharing situation it would be absolutely fine. Friendly fun and trendy place to come and eat with friends or partners would highly recommend maybe stay clear of the dim sum and perhaps go for something else.

A nice thai restaurant in the heart of Bournemouth. We have popped in for a quick dinner. The atmosphere is welcoming, service was friendly and helpful. Menu is easy to understand. Highlights of the menu: they have all the dishes you would expect from a thai restaurant. They have pure vegan dishes like the vegan (tofu) pad thai I had, and apart from stocking organic cider they can accommodate most off-the-menu mocktail or cocktail orders if you dont find the one you absolutely must have ;) The place has 2 sofa area to the right of the entrance which are prefect if you want to have a few cocktails. To the left of the entrance are 3 separate eating areas and they have a dedicated private dining area too. Highly recommend the place if you are in the area looking for a place to have thai food or a few cocktails/mocktails.

One of the finest restaurant we tried for the first time with our infant. Staff helped in choosing the food. Food 5/5 Ambience 5/5 Cleanliness 5/5 Child friendly and understood customer requirement well and served on time. We tried padd thai for main course and chicken satay for starters both were good. We loved it and will visit again! Thank you team.

We had a Saturday night group booking, and it was busy. However, service was slow, and attentiveness was nowhere to be seen! So when the service charge was added to the bill I was somewhat annoyed, our whole night took a slump as we were waiting sooo long for drinks, the birthday celebrations took a dive so wasn't enjoyed. It's such a shame as the food was epic. We just missed out on the whole dining out experience, which spoiled our night, to be honest.

Very poor. Not been here for several years. Clearly after they went bust last time out, whoever has taken on the brand has cut cost everywhere. Rude staff (almost walked out before they seated us), unimaginative menu, awful food (drenched in oil and very bland). Toilets engulfed in damp and mould. What once was a stellar Thai mini-chain is now basically a poor man’s far-eastern themed Frankie and Benny’s.

No problem here. Just good food and the right vibes.

The service and atmosphere was nice but my steak which I asked for medium rare came almost well done. The salad that came with it was nice though. The green curry was good but a little too sweet.

I wasn’t happy with pork belly and they took it off menu. Tamarind duck was nice. Singha on draft - overall I’m satisfied with this place

I've always loved Koh Thai restaurants and the Bournemouth one is marvellous - if a little noisy on a Saturday night!

Visited the lounge (which has a separate entrance next door) for a private party and we were all very much looked after. The bar staff were friendly and accommodating, the food was lovely, and everyone left very happy. Special mention for Josh, who looked after me - top guy!

Food is good, only chicken is halal. Thai red curry was the best. However stay away from the tom yum soup as that is no way near any tom yum soup. It was disgusting. No flavour, it was like dish water.

Had A Wonderful Meal Here With My Grandson This Evening, The food was Excellent, Service Too , The Waitress was Lovely and Nothing was Too much Trouble For Her , We were Served by Valery , I Definitely Recommend the Massaman Curry , And the Bye Bye Samurai Cocktail ,

Just had a really delicious meal here, the food was soooo good, went with a member of my family that has spent periods of time in Thailand and he recommended what l ate, as l am new to it! And, l really enjoyed the taste

Great communication from the restaurant leading up to the dinner. Food was tasty and the portions were generous. Starters could almost be main courses. Service was a little slow, but the restaurant was busy, and we were a large group, so it was understandable. Spice levels on the menu seemed to be a bit inaccurate with a 2 chilli dish either being quite bland, or very spicy.

Great food! The chicken satay and crispy sea bass were amazing! I love the atmosphere and friendliness of the staff. One of the best Thai restaurants I've been to!

The stars are more for the venue than the food: Amazing design (in an old car showroom), nice service, and great location…. If only there wasn’t the inability to cook proper Thai food (one of my favourite cuisines)! I ate here years ago and the food was much better. All it needs is to get back to the standard when they opened… I’m not giving up hope: At least they have a good selection of vegetarian dishes. They just need to cook them properly.

I had an incredible dining experience at Koh Thai. The food was bursting with authentic flavors—especially the summer spring rolls and my vegetarian Curry, which were perfectly cooked and generously portioned. What made the evening truly special was our waitress, Valery. She was attentive, friendly, and made excellent menu recommendations. If you're looking for delicious Thai food and top-notch service, Koh Thai is a must-visit! I would also recommend the cocktails, they are delicious!

We booked a table on a Friday evening, expecting a long wait due to high demand times. Instead, we were served almost instantly by the lovely Emily. She was happy to wait for us to decide on meals and was polite as ever. The food and drinks were lovely and the atmosphere even better. Emily ensured we were comfortable at all times. Brilliant service!!!

Probably the best Thai restaurant I’ve had in a while. The service was great the staff were courteous and welcoming and food was delectably delicious. They have cocktails and cocktails on specials to help you get joy the meal.

Poor, shabby and staff who don’t care Went to koh Thai in Poole hill (Bournemouth) Sunday evening around 6pm we were the only table they had. After siting down waitress(allyson with lashes) came over in 2 mints to take drink order when we said we are not ready yet she rolled her eyes and never return for 10-12mint I have to flag her down. When I asked her to take the order she said only manager can take the order as I have lactose allergy. But with the allergy list and manager taking order she wasn’t sure if I can order that dish or not as she didn’t have knowledge about it. The decor is too shabby, chair making noises and bottom of chairs were hanging down. We were sit by the divider which was full of good layer of dust the lamp shades you can see full of dust. Food came was the mains were presented good not the staters they were grisly. If the restaurant is presented like this wonder how’s the kitchen is. As the time went around 20 people more arrived and few waiting staff came to appear. But no one seems like to interact with the customers including the manager(girl) at the end they put service on our bill which explain it all that why don’t interact with people or don’t provide them experience I work in hospitality thank god we don’t add service to the tables. Went once never again

A few different things on the menu. Crispy Aubergine is outstanding, and the squid was beautifully tender. We loved the idea of ordering a whole bunch of smaller plates and sharing.

This restaurant has a nice atmosphere and is visually appealing. When we arrived the service was ok, polite enough. Found arrived in a reasonable time also . I had rye pad thai which was quite tasty, although my friends who had the katsu curry and other things were less impressed and found their dishes a little bland

Fabulous popular restaurant with great choice dishes. Definitely recommend the pineapple pineberry rice dish and new aubergine starter. The chocolate Martinis were also divine. Great service, surroundings and atmosphere. Would visit again.

The place is good and the drinks are delicious, but the taste is ok

We were visiting Bournemouth on a day trip and wanted to try one of their Thai restaurants, this place was open from 12 pm on Sunday where most of the others were closed. It didn't disappoint as it's beautifully decorated with great choices on the menu. We tried their new curry soup dish and kids menu. The portions were generous. Their roti was more authentic to what you get in Thailand. Highly recommended

I went there on a trip today and OMG!!! The cocktails and the noodles was so good! I ate a whole plate and got to make spring roles! Even gave me a voucher and free water bottles at the end! Totally recommend coming here

I had booked this place for my boyfriends birthday which was around nye so was very busy but the waiter tried his very best with us! The service was fast and the food was so so tasty. From the starter to the dessert everything was amazing and we usually don’t really get dessert. The staff was also nice enough to take a couple photo of us which was really appreciated. Very good vegetarian menu options and the mocktails were really good too. We can’t wait to visit again.

Highly recommend, every time I've eaten there its been consistently delicious. They did tofu & potato massaman for me recently and it was SO good that I'll be back for it again next time I'm in Bournemouth

I have been to a couple of private functions here, the room is great loads of seating, dance floor and private bar. Always been happy with the level of service and staff are really nice. Only thing negative is that it could really do with updating, cleaning & decor etc. I haven't personally tried the food, it looks great but quite pricey in my opinion

The food was nice but not great, which is fine, but the waitress wasn't very welcoming, no chit chat, no " How is your meal" and the only service was bringing the food to the table, but still had a service charge automatically added to the bill.. I don't mind paying a service charge if I actually get service..

Food was great and served very well. The only issue was that there was a hair in my food and the waiter didn’t offer discount or anything else to help with the problem.

Great place for a night out, they do great food and look great cocktails. The wine list is terrible and the beer selection equally so, probably to push the cocktails. The prawn crackers and sweet chilli sauce are pretty awesome, I didn't need a starter, but ended up getting the pork belly for a taste and it was great. The steak was great. But low key the coconut rice was 🔥. 9/10 would recommend (not crazy about cocktails).

Visited for an early evening drink with a view to booking a table for dinner. We were given drinks menus and instructed to take a seat; someone would come and take our drinks order....45 minutes later we were still waiting while staff were standing around chatting. We eventually left without a drink and without anyone noticing. Very disappointing service ; I'm glad we didn't book a table for dinner.

The decor had a good warm feel from the outside, and the atmosphere inside just complemented the whole experience. All the staff were warm and friendly with a joyful smile on their faces at all times, which was lovely to see. They were very knowledgeable and helped us make the right choices for our evening meals. It was great to have a little natter with them, without them dropping their high level of service to others in the restaurant. Their meal choices for us met our requirement and were absolutely fantastic. They even catered for my special request to add fried egg to the coconut rice, where my partner gave me a weird look, but completed the task at hand. My partner and I loved the rice mix, and the food was a gold star award on top of the Olympic podium. Thank you so much, team ❤️

Amazing food. Sat on table for 2. Near the sunset picture. Food was incredible. Nice big portions. The waitress who looked after the table wasn't that great, very slim, dark long hair, .attitude problem. i felt like an inconvenience, walked away while having a conversation with her and then didn't acknowledge when i asked for the bill. Let the experience down which was unfortunate. Lovely atmosphere thou. Nice and busy. If it wasn't for our waitress it would of been a really lovely night. One thing I found weird was bringing your bill and card machine over at the same time. Barely had chance to see bill before card machined waved in my face to present my card.

Service was great, but the food we had was mediocre, to be honest. It's not the worst Thai I've had but not even close to the best. If this place was voted best Thai in the area, then I won't be eating Thai in Poole again anytime soon. Was really expensive too.

Very nice little, well not so little restaurant, definitely worth a visit. Very good food, lovely range of cocktails and great seating area if you only want to drink. Recommended after dinner drinks after your meal, good music too. Highly recommend

Koh Thai has it about right. The quality is consistent and always good. The food is tasty and with banquet options with a fixed price per head, it saves the pain of splitting the bill when you are out with friends. Service is generally quick and polite. The Tamarind Duck is a favourite. Recommended.

The laksa and cocktails were both really good. The beef in the stir fry was on the tough side but the dish itself was very tasty. The food came out quick, but one of our dishes was forgotten. The staff were not very attentive considering they charge a compulsory service charge. It is advertised on the Web site that they offer NHS/bluelight discount. Apparently this is old news and they no longer offer this. It would have been nice if this had been honoured on this occasion, but sadly it wasn't. For this, I would unlikely return.

We regularly come here when in Bournemouth (over the last 10 years) but the place doesn’t serve quality food anymore. The Chicken Satai came with what looked like cucumbers cut the previous day, very disappointing! The chicken in my green curry also didn’t look fresh. At this price point I would expect better food.

Amazing food, great service and cosy atmosphere!

Dim Sum, Chicken Pad Thai and Crispy Pork Belly Pieces. All were perfectly cooked, beautifully flavoured and more than enough in a portion. This is without doubt the best example of Thai cuisine I’ve had in the UK. I don’t live in Bournemouth but the food here could convince me to move!

We went to Koh lounge for a quiz night. We soon noticed that every drink we ordered at the bar had a 10% service charge added without permission. I waited over 20 minutes at the bar to be served, given 3 glasses and a bottle of wine and charged an extra £3 for this. When I realised I asked for it to be refunded and the apologised but this happened to everyone - a pint was £6.50 and was charged £7.15 for it - absolutely disgusting that they do this without you’re permission. BEWARE WHEN YOU DRINK THERE

Food was nice, however waited up to 15 mins to be served a pint of beer at the bar and tried charging me more than menu price. Appreciate it’s a restaurant format and the prices are a higher amount (£6.75 a pint) however the staff were putting a service charge on pouring a pint?!? Attempted to charge me against £7.42 without offering the option to tip which is not right. It was only until I questioned why the price was high the bar staff said we just add a service charge to all drink pours, I’ve never heard such a practice anywhere? heard a lot of other people across the night saying they weren’t impress/ confused why they were charged so much, definitely disgruntled a lot of customers. Very dissatisfying and debating whether I’d go back

The food, specially mussels, chicken satay and sirloin steak was perfect. Just the lady who was serving us didn't really seem to be interested in her job hence the 4 star.

My wife and I celebrated her birthday with dinner at Koh Thai last night and we were very impressed. Delicious food, reasonably priced (especially as the curries automatically included rice) with a lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Would highly recommend dining there and we'll definitely go again!

The place is too COLD!!!!! The staff are lovely and the food is nice. The place has one heater for the whole place. Please avoid or bring two coats and gloves. I never took off my coat or fleece.

Visited on New Year’s Eve without a booking and was kindly given a table, the service was good and the food was very nice. Highly recommended.

Kristy organised the takeaway perfectly for us to pick up and was very friendly when we arrived! amazing experience and the best thai in bmth !!!

I can cook better Thai food with my eyes closed and my arms tied behind my back. No real flavour to any of it tbh. Pleasant enough place, oddly doesn't smell of Thai food until you taste it and then it doesn't seem that odd I suppose. Lidl do a better green curry in my opinion. Enjoy!

Came here for my girlfriends birthday on Tuesday night. Food was so delicious and tasty. Very good portions for the price.
