Owner was pathetic, abusing customers. Very rude and disgusting person.. food quality was poor . Worst experience of my life

Best chicken tikka masala we have ever had.

I never leave reviews but this place should close immediately. It was by far the worst curry and place I’ve ever eaten in. The place itself was filthy and the toilets weee disgusting. The curry was tasteless and the nan bread and paratha was like cardboard. Don’t visit this place!!

Might not be the most trendy of restaurants in Newcastle but if you want a tasty authetic curry and something other places don't do this is the place. I would highly recommend the south Indian chicken curry. Lovely friendly owners and staff

From recollection this was a brilliant Indian, made better by the fact service was friendly, quick and helpful. Worth noting I can’t remember much due to a day on the drink

Me and my friends came here after a night out and had a fabulous time, service was so quick and the food was beautiful. Massive thank you to Sir for being so accommodating with my friends when they got a bit silly.

The staff was extremely rude and disrespectful by raising his voice.

This is a fantastic local restaurant. I have been going for over 30 years and never had a bad meal. Great service, great food and is our go to after every Newcastle home game.

Curry was mild walk, tikka was bland, naan bread stale and poppadoms chewy. Do not eat here. It says a lot when a Wetherspoons curry is better than a local Indians.

Worst experience ever. Been to many restaurants in Newcastle but never had a bad customer service like this. Manager is very rude and doesn’t even know how to treat the customers.

We went in on a Saturday night and were the only people there. On arrival we were greeted by I assume the manager who was very nice to begin with We ordered drinks and waited on our food. My cola was warm. I went to the toilet and they’re a disgrace. The toilets didn’t flush and were dirty Back at the table, my husband wasn’t happy with the food served and decided to pay for drinks and go elsewhere. The manager became very irate at him telling him to hurry up and finish his drink and pay for them and go. My husband tried to explain his issue diplomatically but the manager wasn’t interested - very rude and abrupt and said we should appreciate we are in England (and not Scotland where we are from?!) does this mean we have to accept substandard curries when we leave Scotland? Who knows! We paid for our drinks and left On a side note the way the manager speaks to the two (very efficient) waiters is ridiculous and they should go and have their efforts at their job appreciated in the plentiful restaurants nearby. I read online the place has been around since the late 60’s - don’t think it’s been decorated since it opened Won’t be back!

We have nothing but wonderful things to say about KOH-I-NOOR. The space is elegant, modern, and comfortable. The service was stellar. And the food exceeded expectations. Ingredients, flavors, presentations…all fabulous. I highly recommend KOH-I-NOOR when you want a lovely dinner out.

A marvellous curry to finish a great day well worth the money and top notch service too

Actually, not even worth for one star, extremely disappointed with the food quality and taste.. I have ordered beef Biriyani.. The pieces of beef just boiled and mixed with rice.. Absolutely tasteless rice and beef, not even salt... I felt the beef is not fresh one.. And oily rice.. The only flavor I got from biriyani is just curry powder.. I suggest to find a good chef to improve your business..

Not being able to get us a tea with milk on the side. Has a big runout menu gives a show of how honesty is the only virtue. Refuses our choices and tells let me give you something special. (special it proofed to be) Calls a big guy from somewhere (polish?) to the kitchen Produces on a very noisy cart two dishes. A Spinach cheese dish floating in oil with a bland taste And a so called hot lamb dish *(i was chicken lumps drowning in oil) We both struggled to finish the dishes. Later that nite and the whole morning afterwards stomachproblems with both of us. Do no go there!! takes the bill paper after we payed, with saying : we keep the receipts (??)

The restaurant has very poor service and food quality. The manager doesn't know to handle clients. He's very rude to the customers.

We ordered meals for four , but they have combined everything in one small plate and gave it ( all for their ease). Also one of their staff was too rude and when escalated it to a manager they told he is very busy and we cant talk to him. And All the chicken currys were too sweet , iw ouldnt recommend anyone to go there.

Truly awful Indian food. I ordered the thali and the only thing that was close to edible was the beer I had. The chicken curry tasted only of cream, and LOTS of cream, the veg bhaji and dal was filled with turmeric and the lamb curry, well existed on the plate. Giving it 2 stars since the staff were really nice.

Staff attention to detail great !

Visited early on a Wednesday evening, this restaurant opened in 1969 and the food is still excellent. There was no one in, when we arrived just after 7pm, don't let that put you off ... the decor also needs updating but the food is typical, genuine, good Indian food.

The waiter who served us is amazing! So friendly and helped us fuse the items we ordered so they complimented each other. Knew his stuff regarding the ingredients and how each dish was cooked. The food was fantastic, tasty and satisfying. The poppadoms are incredibly, I’ve never had them cooked in the tandoori style before - delicious! Couldn’t eat everything as servings are generous. Would throughly recommend. The decor is a little tired and could do with sprucing up. This is a gem in the centre of Newcastle. Lastly, great value for money.

The staff are rude and they tried to charge us for drinks we never had. Food was very average. All jn our group said we wouldn’t return

Hit this place on a very busy night in town. I'd forgotten completely I'd already visited maybe ten or more years previously! Don't be put off by the 'simplistic' look it has. Sure, it ain't Decor Centrale but it was clean and tidy enough. The grub was absolutely fine, service a big plus point and the price more than acceptable. I smashed in a 'badgey' starter, Tandoori mixed grill main, cheese naan and a few bottles of Cobra. Sample it for your curry requirements when in Toon.

£1.75 a lidl water. £4.95a bottle of cobra and a terrible curry. Not worth the time at all. Update tomorrow

Ordered starters and main courses, when starters came my onion bhaji was running with oil and the other guys pakora were bone dry with no taste. When we complained to the server we were told what would you know as your not Indian. I thought this attitude was awful so I asked the server to cancel all of the main courses in which he replied that’s fine just pay for your drinks and leave. No further discussion regarding the poor quality of the food and no other member of staff showed any interest.

Midweek visit, very quiet as early booking and only ones in . Service therefore wasn't an issue. Menu simple and food inexpensive. Food was excellent full of flavour as I'd like to expect. Staff were excellent, what let's the place down is decor . 25 years since last visit and looked exactly the same...floor is uneven in places. Generally lacks a bit of tlc but this is something that probably doesn't bother the peed up customers late at night from the bigg market.

Nice food good service and great staff

This restaurant really holds a special place in my heart. This is where I go after a messy night out and really need some sustenance. As soon as you sit down you are given a pint of water to wash away those worrisome hangover blues. I usually order tarka Dahl, tikka masala, saag aloo, garlic naan, and whatever else really. Who cares? You're drunk, order whatever you want. The service is usually really quite good and the waiters remind me of my own parents when I come home drunk: disapproving, displeased and mostly disappointed. But hey ho thats part of the charm. I really do miss this place and after this isolation period is over, this will be the first place I go. I am really sorry about the time I was a tad unwell in your bathroom as well as the time my friend Bronny was sick outside your restaurant. She does it to mark her territory so please take it as a compliment if you will. Please keep up what you are doing xoxo Cara

Used to live in Newcastle and came back for a night out with friends and my partner. Right in the middle of town so perfect location in between flares and popworld - and open all night so ideal for the drunk munchies. Went in at about 1am and ordered to take away but you can just as easy have a sit down. Staff very friendly as always, food made fresh and fast. Only issue was i had an allergic reaction to the pakora coating - not sure what it was as I'm allergic to a lot of things and hadn't told them about it. My fault and the rest of the food was lovely! Would definitely be going back.

I saw the hoarding outside and did wonder if I should keep walking. The inside is dated and tired, I'm assuming they're in the process of refurbishment rather than demolition. The table cloth was dirty and I was wondering whether I should leave. The food was disappointing with tough stringy meat with a slightly funky taste. The salad was chopped iceberg lettuce with 1 slice each of cucumber and tomato.

Visited this venue with a group of friends on a Saturday night and found it odd that there was no one else eating there. Little wonder really when you ask for a lamb madras and there are only about 5 or 6 very small morsels of meat in the dish. My friends opted for chicken biriyani. Again, found very few pieces of chicken, all small and shredded. Nan breads and pops were fine, however not exactly hard to get wrong. My advice, if you want a meat free meal cone here.

After a great days rugby watching Sarries win, quite a few celebratory drinks and lots of fun, it was time for food. A very helpful policeman pointed me in the direction of the Koh-I-Noor for a much needed curry. It was all a bit hectic, I didn’t envy the staff with what they were having to endure from my fellow diners! The service was fast and efficient, the portion sizes more than generous and the prices reasonable. Open all hours. A great place when in need of a curry.

Visited on saturday night 7pm so expected it to be busy... not one person in which sent alarm bells ringing but still gave it a chance. Ordered off the special set menu bhuna prawn on puri which had 4 prawns on im not kidding you, bulked up with tomatoes. To be fair it tasted alright but howay man 4 small prawns it was gone with one fork full. For my main i had chicken madras which was very watery and bland, ive had millions of madras’ in my time so i know what im talking about. It wasnt good. Wasnt the cleanest of places i know people go here at 2/3am after a skinfull and just want to shovel curry down their necks so they probably get away with serving rubbish. But i was having a civilised meal and picked up on everything Only came in as my regular curry house (raj tandoori) was full.

Mi plato de purín de gambas fue uno de los mejores que he probado, y mi pollo jalfrezi fue posiblemente el mejor jalfrezi he tenido el placer de comer. En general, la experiencia fue brillante, y para una mesa de cuatro pedidos cuatro entrantes, cuatro curries, cuatro papas fritas, cuatro panes de arroz y cuatro panes naan con 8 pintas de lager llegando a 75, estoy planeando visitar Newcastle de nuevo muy pronto solo para ir de vuelta a Koh - i - ni! Un consejo, el curry phall es muy, muy, muy caliente.

Koh - I - Noor realmente hace exactamente lo que dice en la lata. Es una casa de curry de clase trabajadora sin pretensiones, que ofrece comida fresca a un precio decente. La ubicación cerca del Bigg Market no es ideal, pero eso no es algo que el restaurante pueda hacer. Habíamos estado en una verdadera excursión de cerveza por el valle de Tyne y nos dirigimos a la ciudad para decirnos adiós el uno al otro y conseguir un bocado para comer. Me gusta un buen Vindaloo, pero otro de nuestro grupo sugirió un Phal. Ambos tuvimos un Phal con pollo y gambas. Sí, hacía mucho calor, aunque comestible. El sabor primordial del vinagre lo echó a perder un poco, y supongo que fue el resto de la reserva en la que se encontraban algunos de los chiles. Probé un par de otras comidas que tenían mis colegas. Eran más convencionales y de mejor sabor. Este lugar no es elegante, pero supongo que el propietario no querría que fuera. Seguid entregando buena comida sana, chicos.

Surprisingly good Pathi Gosht at 4am! It's not somewhere I would pop into during the day, but that's not too fair given the excellent meal I had there.

Food very nice. My son and myself called tonight, (Thurs) at 6pm. We were first in, so it was quiet but warm and comfy. We were given pickles and popadoms on the house. We both opted for the £9.90weekday special. There was plenty of food and it was really nice, topped off with a creamy coffee. We sat from 6-9pm eating and then chatting and weren't hurried out. Could do with a lick of paint here and there, but clean with pleasant staff and nice food.

This restaurant was totally empty, probably because the food is revolting. The Kashmiri chicken and lamb probably the worst dishes I have ever eaten in an Indian restaurant. Aargh.

Después de una agradable velada con amigos, decidimos tomar una comida india como la manera perfecta de terminar la noche. Estuvimos equivocados. Fuimos recibidos por un camarero enojado que parecía disgustado de ver a los clientes. Pedimos una mesa a la que el camarero gruñó "30 minutos", señalamos que el restaurante estaba básicamente vacío, gruñó de nuevo "30 minutos". Por alguna razón, decidimos quedarnos a pesar del saludo grosero y tomar asiento. Lo primero que notamos fueron huellas dactilares sucias y sucias en todas las cuberterías, lo que no fue nada extraordinario. El rudo camarero ignorante se acercó a nosotros y dijo "bebidas", dijimos, ¿podemos ordenar nuestra comida también? Estamos listos para ordenar "¡No!! 30 minutos" respondió el camarero. Preguntamos cuál era la diferencia, esperábamos poder pedir comida, luego sentarnos y tomar una copa. great food! just the decor could do with an update

Visitamos el restaurante después de una noche en el fútbol con mi novio. Caminando hacia el restaurante no estaba demasiado interesado en ir, pero la otra mitad me aseguraron que era uno de los mejores restaurantes indios en la ciudad. Entramos para ser recibidos por un camarero y un vacío insatisfecho. Nos llevaron a una mesa y dado el menú. El camarero volver a tomar nuestras órdenes y a menos de 5 minutos de ordenar nuestra entrada. Esto me preocupa que mi compañero tenía un plato de carne y seguramente habría tardado más tiempo para cocinar. La cebolla bhajis powdering elegí era muy anterior y probablemente ese día y frijoles refritos. Sólo terminado el arranque cuando la principal vino. Nuevo increíblemente rápido para 2 platos de pollo. TBH el curry parecía agradable, pero sabía muy soso. A mi total disgusto y horror me corté un pedazo de pollo para encontrar todavía crudo en el medio! ! ! ! El camarero más gritó y le mostré. Él tomó a la cocina y regresó con una excusa que todo el pollo cocinado juntos y el como chef había perdido un poco. No era lo suficientemente buena me temo. Supe que era algo que no va bien, ya que era rápido viene a la mesa. No hacer un alboroto dijo que no quería más. El camarero dijo que iba a tomar de la factura, pero cuando la factura, él había tomado mi plato de socios ya que era más barato. Le pedimos que cambie y no, pagamos y nos fuimos. Nunca más volveré a visitar este restaurante. Tenía una sopecha que había algo raro.

Un grupo de nosotros fuimos un curry después de una noche fuera. La comida era bastante agradable, pero eran totalmente estafados cuando llegó la factura. El camarero se convirtió en abusivas y amenazado a atacarnos! No fue una experiencia agradable y nunca le patronise ellos de nuevo. No merecen estar en el negocio.

Me había ido de aquí y por unos 30 años y queríamos ir por mi cumpleaños como un poco de nostalgia.

After reading reviews i wasnt looking forward to coming here (a good friend recommended it) Looking on the outside of the restaraunt...it is screaming to be modernised and updated, as well as the decor inside.They do not serve lager by the pint, its all in fairly large pint bottles though.Food was good but not great, I had chicken tikka madras and it was lovely and spicy. As a party of four, we ordered the set meal for four menu (£59.95) which i think is a reasonable price. Despite reading other reviews, we were not overcharged - so thats good! Waiter seemed a little shy, and was clearing peoples plates before the whole party was finished eating - bad move - always wait until the whole party has finished as it gives a friendlier and not rushed touch. I'll admit i was dreading using their toilets before I left... but ive seen worse. I'm 25 and think the decor was older than me... could really use a refurbishment but maybe they dont have the money just now?All in all dont be put off by the negative comments... the place could really do with a makeover, and the staff could give a smile once in a while or build rapport with customers... but ive had a lot worse curries and i love my curries! Give it a go.

Arrived to find it empty bar one other table. That didn't worry us too much as we were quite early.After ordering, whilst waiting for our food we heard the only other table of people getting into a heated debate about an overcharge. We paid little attention to this, our food arrived which was all great, and then asked for the bill.Unfortunately, we were overcharged. On asking politely we got a blank response, so ended up asking to speak to the manager. Eventually someone came but had no interest whatsoever in resolving the situation for us.The food had been pretty good so we would have left a tip, but due to the overcharge and subsequent lack of interest in helping us, we begrudgingly paid and skipped the tip.Would not recommend.

We visted as they were opening on a quiet Sunday. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the service exemplary and the food amazing! Best Indian restaurant I've been too.

Couldn't fault the food. Met expectations

My friends and I visited this restaurant last night. We were desperate to find a place to eat as we had been to a business meeting, and were hungry. The first signs were, it was empty. That should be a good sign, but, as I said we were hungry. I went to the toilet, which had graffiti on the door, while I noticed upon re-entering the dining area how dirty the carpet was. The food arrived, and there was a lot of oil, and therefore, it was very greasy. Meanwhile, the waiter who served us looked fed-up. I will not be returning to this restaurant, and feel embarrassed to have recommended it to my friends, particularly as it has place in Newcastle's history as one of the very first Indian food restaurants in the city, and that it was patronised by celebrities and even featured in the Viz comic. It is now a restaurant which has featured, in 2011, in the Newcastle Chronicle for poor food hygiene. It seems it has a very long way to improve. As I said, I will never patronise this venue again.

Please do not waste your time or money on this place, I can't call it a restaurant as that implies somewhere serving edible food. Foodstuff inedible, I wish I had brought a tuppaware dish so I could send sample to FSA, as it was we left dishes, staff rude and totally uninterested. This place should be shut down.

My friends and I have been going here for a number of years after a night out. It stays open into the early morning and is therefore a good place to soak up some booze. The food is decent and the service is very friendly and quick given the number of drunk people they must deal with. The restaurant has no windows, which is a bit odd, and I wouldn't go here for a normal evening meal, but it's excellent as a late night place.

Went with a view to using our gourmet card. The offer was buy two courses get the second person free, Didn't happen. Restaurant empty and over charged they discounted one main @. £7.50 hope it was worth it guys we won't be back ! Plenty of other restaurants to chose from #loosers

Have been going to this restaurant for 25 years and never been disappointed .The staff are friendly and polite with a great atmosphere. The food and service in my opinion are second to none with reasonable prices to match. I would recommend this restaurant to all curry lovers.

Attended this eating place. Only one other table in the whole place taken. That should have given us the heads up. The second, sat at a table with dirty table cloth.The third clue was the toilet, they were really bad, dirty with none closing toilet doors however the lads toilets even worse.The meals ordered were incorrect, one waiter commented and was shouted down and told it was correct and just put on the table. Waiters very basic skills, unable to get 4 meals one the table, therefore to resolve they had to drag another table over without cleaning it still had dinner from previous person.The soft drinks were flat. The building and deco dated. The food hygiene certificate last updated 2012 OMG.The only way this is still open is the drunken lads arriving late at night.Hope you read this before you waste your money and have a disappointing night.

Had a fantastic meal on two nights during our stay. Brilliant deal. Superb value for money and loads to eat. Would thoroughly recommend. Will be going their again on our next trip. Extremely friendly staff.

Great for after a night out. We always go here after a night out in Newcastle. It stays open until the early hours of the morning so it's a great place to have a sit down meal/get some quality food.

We went here on a stag do in a large group, the service was excellent & I had one of the specials which was absolutely fantastic.

This is one of the best indian restaurants in Newcastle. I have eaten there many times and the food has always been excellent. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the value for money is very good. If you are looking for a traditional indian restaurant in Newcastle I would highly recommend a visit.

There were 7 of us who turned up extremely late however we had a lovely sit down meal and all thoroughly enjoyed it!!

I have been into this restaurant so many times - I have lost count, never been in before Midnight! This is one of my mates favourites, most people say fancy going for a curry, he says "fancy a Koh I Noor" this is normally around last orders on the high street, there are a couple of Indian Restaurants near us, but this one is open till late and don't mind serving very late. My favourite dish is the mixed Kebab main, which is very filling I always smoother it in minty sauce which is a personal preference, we always order too many nan breads, again my mate loves them, each time we return its like being greeted by long lost friends, who always make you feel welcome, its amazing how popular this place is at 2am in the morning mainly due to being in the Bigg Market most people walk into here after a long night, and I imagine can be quite a handful but in the 7 years I have been going here I have not seen one incident and that is impressive. I recommend this to place to anyone looking for that late night meal while around the town.
