There is always room for improvement here needs to pay attention to having well trained staff ! And perhaps more on the floor ! Most venues hate to be advised on this especially here. Waiting time for drinks was atrocious….when it finally came not 100..% but it’s a very popular venue which will continue to operate as Place to be Seen! It needs tweaking here there …. First port of call is the barman…. Wipe the smirk off you faces and maybe I would be constructively criticising your poor workmanship ! Try being a pro at what you do. I shall be doing a mystery shop soon to see if improvements have been made. ! Thank you for trying to make this a vibey venue. Better luck perhaps on my next visit. ! Management at the Vermont Hotel (part of the group) aware.

I've heard a lot about this place so was looking forward to trying it. Service was fab, the two girls who served us were very friendly and helpful. The cocktails were lovely but very pricey but as a treat it was nice. The view is definitely the highlight! Fab views of the whole of Newcastle and Gateshead Would love to try some food from here at some point so will be back!

I didn't know this place existed until today. What a hidden gem. Beautiful rooftop lounge bar with amazing views over Newcastle Quayside. Staff were lovely as were the cocktails.

The service was very good, the cocktails were very expensive and I couldn’t taste any alcohol, it’s was mostly ice. Was good to check out the view but I probably wouldn’t go back. It seemed to be a magnet for hen parties.

We were seated and told it was table service. Water was brought over for the table however no one asked about our drink order. Once we pointed out we were still waiting the staff were very apologetic and attentive afterwards. The views are amazing!

Really nice view! Amazing views on the terrace. Staff are lovely! Literally the only person there on a Tuesday in January but was still nice to visit. It was raining also but still a good experience Would go back.

I thoroughly enjoyed a walk-in visit to this rooftop bar with fine views over Newcastle's riverside and neighbouring Gateshead. I will visit again with a booking now that I know there is a decent choice of drinks, impressive views and attentive service.

Service would be 5 stars if we were only dealing with the waitresses. We were not told there was a time limit on our table and before we could order our 3rd round of drinks and food we were asked to leave by a very rude manager who even the waitress was apologising for! He said they required the table for a booking when we were not informed and there was no reserve sign when we were shown to our table by the staff so it's not like we picked a random one. Worst manager ever for guest relations. Pretty sad considering it's a high end bar with nice drinks/atmosphere and a lot of people go there to spend a lot of money. Can't see them getting many return customers if they treat them all like we were treated.

Was at a private party which was good. Not much choice on the buffet though. Main complaint was that the DJ was useless and had no idea what to play to get people up and dancing. Such a shame for a xmas party

We came in for drinks. Hannah greeted us and allowed us to choose our seats. She was helpful with choosing drinks and noticed when we needed a refill. We will definitely be back.

It was really nice and the food was good however they had only 7 things on the whole menu so we were very limited in choice. Also one of the very expensive cocktails came only half full so could be better.

Rubbish service. Conned me with bad website lay out giving very misleading prices. Refuse to acknowledge or act on my complaint and now removing my reviews. Your website is set up to deliberately con people. Don't hide from it fix it.

Went for afternoon tea booked on line after a lot of research and paid in full. This was booked well in advance for my sisters birthday. On arival you walk in to an empty building past an empty welcome destination and let yourself in to a lift marked only by a door mat all other doors are locked. Rather creepy set up. I'm not a fan of lifts and lack of signs or staffed welcome desk made this feel worse. Arrive to a rather trippy fairground magic mirrors type room. So many mirrors and reflective surfaces make it hard to see where you are going. Tried to explain afternoon tea was pre booked but not sure if staff knew this and weren't clear or didn't have a clue we were just told to pick a table which we did. Views are nice but no atmosphere some background music or something would be good. Service at this point did kmprove slightly with a lady advising we could add a prosecco or cocktail to our afternoon tea for a small surcharge, lovely. I pointed out dietary requirements on the afternoon tea as had been noted on the booking form. After a rather long wait it turned out this had been forgotten so further delays on service. The worst was yet to come. After finishing I requested the bill. Expecting aprox £11 for the one mock tail and one glass of prosecco we had added. The bill arrived at £44 this was the full advertised cost of afternoon tea plus drinks. I explained I had already paid on booking at which point I was told this is a deposit. The website has very well hidden small print you'd never seen on booking stating this. I asked to speak to the manager and showed her the screen I'd booked on. She told me I should have booked on a computer and laughed it off. Not wanting to ruin my sisters birthday I paid kicking myself fir using a mobile and left. When I got home I checked the booking on the computer this also hides the small print. I've asked multiple friends to check the prices at Above and every single one has come to the same conclusion I did that its £15 pp. I emailed Above to explain this and was dismissed made to feel like an idiot. This is illegal false advertising and absolutely disgusting behaviour. They are scaming customers by hiding important information. The venue really is nothing special and a sandwich with the crust cut off and a scone is not worth best part of £40 scammers keep well away.

Went on the afternoon for a few birthday drinks. Was a lovely setting. Beautiful inside. Fantastic cocktails. Great views over Newcastle. Definitely worth a visit. Afternoon tea looked fantastic.

Was a good venue in the basic sense. We were at a private party, and the queue for the one bar was crazy even though there were other bars that could have been used, but we were told that this was not possible. People from the party did start to leave as service was too slow. A shame really. The food was very nice! Would not go back.

This is on top of the Vermon hotel. 12th floor. Great views of both the river side and city side. The castle is literally right in your face. Amazing sunset views. A bit chilly after dark but they do offer blankets if you fancy sitting outside. There is plenty seating inside. It's very nicely done. They do offer did and cocktails. Only 3 beer choices all in a bottle. I didn't eat sand only had a couple of beers which were about £10 each. I highly recommend it.

All was good apart from the bouncer ruining the night started accusing people of stuff they hadn’t done then when he realised he was in the wrong he then started saying people were to drunk to come back in and started threatening people and didn’t like it when he was stood up to and proceeded to back down (like a fairy)

Unmatched views of the whole city, very cool interior and an excellent food and drinks menu. Above is a must see, good for date nights, catch ups, girls night.. really great vibe and excellent customer service.. security and door staff always friendly and professional. Highly recommend!!

Toilets were blocked you have to use a lift in and out which is small so there's a big wait

Very swanky , up market type place. Table service with lots of smiles and personal touches - excellent service. Beautiful views of Newcastle. Choice of two seating areas, tall stools or lower comfy sofa type seats. Beautiful decor inside. Bit pricey but worth it for an occasional treat.

Is there anything worse in this world than having the words “table service” thrust upon you and then spending the whole night looking up for attention like a lost puppy and getting zero response from ignorant staff.

Turned away because I had smart dress shorts on, in the middle of June, in a heatwave. Make it make sense. Nowhere does it state that shorts aren't permitted. Just making it up as they go along. Was told to go home and get changed if i lived locally as if a snobby rooftop bar was the only option in town. Have a laugh. SYM.

Food was good , service not so good they have brought the wrong food and drinks , walked off midway through ordering food and ignored a request on the booking .

This bar hosted our rugby club’a annual ball with over 100 people in attendance and a heavy pre paid bar tab. The staff behind the bar were excellent but what I believe was the manager and the bouncers did not treat us with any respect. Multiple occasions where as paying guests we should be given a gentle reminder but was proceeded to be grabbed and shouted at for minor things such as turning the music up was unacceptable. You can have the best view in Newcastle but when your staff don’t treat guests well it takes it away from the place.

Bit of a mixed experience. Great views.Great cocktails but £13 plus a cocktail Some staff seem to be competent and others are very vacant. Although drinks were served in a timely fashion. Sadly the bar is very cheap chic. Could of benefited from a more modern design. This is not really a place for dancing but the music is overly loud and your unable to have a conversation without shouting. Glad I went but not rushing back.

The views are spectacular great bar especially if the sun is shining. Service is very efficient and friendly it is a bit expensive so more of an occasion day out than a weekly visit!

Overpriced afternoon tea. 4 finger sandwiches one of which cucumber and butter. Salmon. Cakes were appauling. Solid sponge. Things with coconut despite allergies stated. Cocktails werent up to much either. Manager was a joke. Told him none of us liked salmon and he offered us to BUY something of the main menu not replace. But he was not interested from the get go. Large group of men quite rowdy placed next to us. Which was just not relaxing at all. Left the place and would never return.

Far too expensive not worth the money, views are stunning on the roof top, but feel you need to sell your kidney to pay £45.00 per head afternoon tea

Popped in for a drink to sit in the sun We were greeted by two lovely ladies Erica and Michelle who were fantastic waitresses. They are an asset to your establishment and we will be highly recommending the Above as a place to visit in Newcastle It’s the bar associated with the Vermont Hotel

Overated,but Vue was good and watch out for the small print when pre booking you don't get your money back if you cancel and keep an eye on your bill they will try to charge you twice.

Massively overpriced and the main bar isn’t big enough to accommodate a big clientele. Me and my partner we were sat on a table right underneath the air con and speaker that plays music that’s far too loud for the size of the bar, as a result couldn’t have a conversation and couldn’t enjoy our drinks.

If you happen to be in Newcastle… this is one place you have to visit. Very classy rooftop bar on the 12th Floor with AMAZING views. Had such an amazing time. The service is also 5* with very friendly staff and is also prompt. Only drawback is menu variety, could do with a few additions. That said its ABOVEall 5*

I had an absolutely fantastic experience at Above rooftop bar in Newcastle, thanks in no small part to the amazing service provided by waiters Hamza and Aaran. These two went above and beyond to make my visit truly unforgettable, and I can't thank them enough for their attention to detail and friendly demeanor. From the moment I arrived, Hamza and Aaran made me feel right at home, offering recommendations from the impressive cocktail menu and answering all of my questions with patience and expertise. They really elevated the experience and made it clear that they take pride in their work, which is always refreshing to see. And of course, the cocktails themselves were truly delicious. The "Above the Clouds" gin cocktail was a standout, and I appreciated the care that went into crafting each drink to perfection. Overall, I would highly recommend Above to anyone looking for a stylish and sophisticated rooftop bar in Newcastle. The views are breathtaking, the decor is chic, and the service is truly top-notch, thanks in large part to the efforts of Hamza and Aaran. Thanks again for a wonderful evening!

I may be biased since I work here, but the staff are extremely friendly and polite, the food is excellent (I recommend the spicy chips), and the atmosphere is amazing of a night time. Reservations are accepted as well as walk-in (depending on table availability), and while the cocktails are a tad pricey, you'll have a night you won't soon forget.

Don’t bother, don’t waste your time. Have been to Above and Livello and Aveika many times, always had a good experience and recommended it to others. However my experience tonight, with what must have been a new server as I’ve never seen her before, was anything but good, after spending £350 her service was god awful, you’d be lucky to get a mixer refill off her. Thankfully I paid with my TSB card which allowed me to initiate a charge back, has already placed the funds back into my account and will do whatever they need to do not to pay the pending charges, and I will never patronize any venue owned by the Gainford group ever again.

Had to cancel 3 days before my booking due to my friend being unwell, was charged a £10 cancellation fee per person that should only be charged if cancelled within 48hr of the booking, phoned and emailed but had no response. Messaged their Facebook page and they read and ignored my message.

These people are highly unprofessional insensitive and rude. Hate it awful place never go with family or alone

Visited on Valentine’s Day for afternoon tea. Have visited a few times before but never so early in the day - with the sun shining, views were even more spectacular! Afternoon tea was delicious & plentiful with unlimited tea/coffee of your choice. Warm welcome as ever from Michelle and attentive service from Kai. Definitely one of our favourite places in town 😁
