Service is nice, atmosphere pleasant (what with all the plants!), coffee is decent but cakes are a bit overpriced.

This place has great potential. It needs some TLC, refreshing and updating with new working heaters. Everyone was sitting in their coats inside so it lost its potential cosiness. The staff were pleasant however got our order incorrect. The food Needs to be fresher and of better quality, it was average at best. I think this place may be a good place for coffee and cake.

Waited 1 hour for food to arrive. Our 3 coffees took about 20 minutes. My meal arrived first and my parent’s meals came around 40 minutes later. They were initially served the wrong dish (apparently the chef read the wrong label) and I had to go to the young girl behind the till to ask for the dish to be removed from my table, even though when she brought it over my parents said it was incorrect. Then she finally took the plates away and I had to ask where is the actual meal my parents ordered, to which I overheard a different lady behind the bar say “just offer them something else” which I found to be an uncaring and lazy response. I sat back down and eventually the correct meals were brought to my parents (after I had already finished my own meal) 1 hour after we sat down. They did say it was delicious (gf cassoulet). Gave 3 stars instead of 1 because we were offered complimentary free drinks and were given a chocolate brownie each on the house afterwards. The atmosphere was nice and the garden shop was cute but the service was unnecessarily bad.

Quite expensive for a very basic breakfast. Nothing special - just cheap ingredients. No table service: you have to get your own cutlery and order your own food. My cup was dirty, and the place was freezing. I had to sit with my coat on.

The staff are lovely here and the ambience of the place is fabulous. However, I thought that the vegan breakfast I ordered was really poor value for what I paid - I ordered a black coffee, an extra slice of toast and a vegan brekkie which came to nearly £17 including a 10% tip - which I gave at the time of ordering before I had seen the food. The breakfast was supposed to include ‘wilted spinach’ but actually had a tiny handful of fresh spinach leaves. There was a half, a bordering on cherry-sized, tomato, and a very small amount of mushrooms. Tomatoes and mushrooms are relatively cheap ingredients so I don’t understand why they are so stingy with the portions. On the plus side the vegan sausages were very nice, as were the hash browns. The coffee was great. Looking at other customers’ plates I suspect that the meat eaters get better value for money. I enjoyed the experience but it would be nice if somewhere in South Birmingham could provide a quality English breakfast for plant-based eaters.

We chose KGC for our wedding as we loved the fact they were so flexible with their approach to events, as well as wanting to choose a local business. We’d seen the 5-star reviews, and were excited when we met with Lana back in December, as she was keen to really personalise the day for us. However, multiple changes in wedding planner (we had 5 in total) meant details of the day became confused and not properly communicated when passed on. The primary problem came when we discovered last minute that our final wedding planner, Shanice, wouldn’t be there on the day. As a result, there were a number of errors made on the day which resulted in us and our guests needing to step in and help. As we later discovered, our wedding planner hadn’t adequately provided the team on duty with the correct information. Having said all of this, Nadia and her team worked so hard to give us the best day, and we really did have a lovely time. The slip-ups were a disappointment, but we are still glad we chose KGC for our wedding. We met with Tracey and her team to discuss the issues afterwards, and they did everything they could to put it right. They were incredibly apologetic, and assured us this doesn’t normally happen. We hope in providing this review that we don’t put people off from planning a wedding here, as it is a lovely local venue that, ultimately, gave us the party we had hoped for. However, we wanted to share our experience in the hope it ensures this was simply a one-off slip-up.

Had high expectations here, but unfortunately the breakfast wasn’t edible. Believe the reviews on here, the decor over the food with this place. Mushrooms tasted burnt, poach egg tasted like rubber and beans seemed microwaved. We arrived near the end of service so think we had the food items that had been sitting on the hot plate from the morning, Coffee was ok but that’s where the joy ended. Walked in as first time visitors, menus were not given when arrived despite questioning how to order. However, the service and mannerism from a staff member was lovely. Such a shame the food didn’t live to the standard as the venue is nice and quirky, however wouldn’t visit again.

Has to return a completely bland butternut squash risotto that had no flavour. Requested a replacement of tuna mayonnaise and cheese baked potato to be later told there was no mayonnaise for the tuna. I settled for a cheese baked potato. By the time it had arrived my two friends had eaten their meals. The baked potato cost less than the butternut squash meal I had originally paid for. There was no offer to refund me the difference. I'm afraid I shan't be returning or recommending this cafe to others.

The atmospheres in the cafe is pleasant enough and comfortable. We ordered the Mini Rise and Shine brunch breakfast. I found it disappointing mainly because the coffee and the mug smelled like wet dog. The food was plain but that’s not surprising. The toast was limp. Service was nothing to write home about, perfunctory and brisk. The overall food experience is not worth repeating. Maybe some of the other food on the menu is better? Seems like a good place to gather with friends and the food is not the goal.

Staffing clearly an issue staff as they were stretched- polite but clueless is how I’d describe our recent experience. Uncleared tables greeted us. Was told our table would be cleared but wasn’t until drinks and cake we ordered arrived about 20 minutes after we placed order at till. My husband was not impressed at all sitting looking at dirty plates with nobody clearing tables and wanted to leave due to unreasonable wait for a couple of hot drinks and cakes. Yet again immediately told 30/40 min wait for food when ordered at till which we didn’t think would be a problem as only ordering quick drinks- big mistake. Ordered banoffee cake - tasted really weird and left a horrible claggy taste. Bathroom was grim, husband said tray our food was brought on was vile too and it’s not somewhere he is interested in going to again. Could and should be much better as unique little spot- not many places you can sit outside in area in greenery and not be overlooking polluted busy roads.

ANOTHER disappointing experience in Garden Cafe. I only keep returning because it’s the best option for brunch in kings Heath and they have dairy free options, but every time there’s multiple problems and i think this time I give up. Warned when we ordered that the food would take 30-45 minutes, ridiculous for such simple food when there weren’t many people there and most seemed to already have their food, but we said it was fine and ordered anyway. Drinks on the other hand took 20 minutes to come, when we could clearly see the staff standing around in the counter area. Charged for tea for 2, but got a one portion teapot. Our food arrived and the potato hash was actually a TINY baked potato (not as described and a rip off). Both breakfasts were missing mushrooms and the beans were on top of the bacon soo it was soggy. Asked for mayo and 10 minutes later had to go to the counter and ask again. Pointed out I was half way through my food already so had to come looking and got an eye roll. Two minutes after placing the initial food and drinks order, went back up and ordered an extra two drinks. Over the course of our stay asked for them two more times and then they finally arrived when we were long finished and about to stand up to leave. I said I didn’t want them anymore and got a cheeky “Fine” Like I was being unreasonable. I then waited for them to come refund me and had to go to the counter and ask in the end. As usual there was no toilet roll in either toilet and both were disgustingly dirty. When at the counter looking for the refund for the drinks I pointed out all the issues we’d had and got a very cheeky response, without any glimmer of a genuine apology. Annoyed by this I said “I’m not being unreasonable or nasty, every time I come here there’s a problem”, to which the girl serving made a face and said “I agree. There’s systemic issues”… Previous time I was here along with the usual service disasters, I ordered two dairy free flat whites and two breakfasts. They asked were there any allergies, to which I said yes, dairy free, lactose intolerant. When the breakfast came (eventually) the mushrooms had been cooked in butter and the toast was buttered. When I pointed it out, as usual got a cheeky reaction like I was being unreasonable. I said I’d just take the mushrooms off if I could have fresh unbuttered toast but they insisted on taking my whole plate and ages later when the person I was with was long finished arrived back with my replacement. Nice place but seriously sort the service out and portion the food in accordance with the pricing.

We had a mocha and a milkshake. Took about 15 minutes to get to us, so pretty slow. The Mocha was ok, the milkshake was definitely just some fake banana flavouring in a glass of milk with some ice, very artificial flavour which was very disappointing. The redeeming feature is the atmosphere, except that the chairs are all very uncomfortable and it is either too hot or too cold because it is basically a greenhouse. This place used to be better so it feels like things have changed recently. The shop is ok and they have good music sometimes, but the cafe was not very good.

A group of us went for brunch - the food was pretty poor. The eggs were really overdone, and the rest wasn’t very special. Also, one of our group didn’t get their food - it had to be chased and when it eventually came (after we had all finished eating ours, it took that long) it was completely cold, they really shouldn’t have served it at all. Lovely café for atmosphere/music/friendly staff, BUT how disappointing is the food. The service once we'd ordered was incredibly slow, waited 15 mins twice just for drinks to arrive (the decaf coffee very weak, no excuse for this with so many good decaf blends available). Ordered soup, broccoli & feta, arrived 25 minutes after ordering. I'm not a fussy eater but sadly couldn't eat this, more like a cheese sauce, extremely salty with a greasy lumpy texture, and not much broccoli, ditch that recipe because broccoli soup should be green, and delicious! My other half had an all day breakfast, looked quite nice, though it also arrived long after we'd finished our drinks, hd said the sausages weren't the best, and the bacon was obviously cheap as covered in white blobs where it has high water content. Overall very disappointing considering how nice the space is, lovely place but reluctant to eat here again until the food quality & service speed improves. Sorry for this, I really want to like it but with such a wide range of nice cafés in Kings Heath this isn't one I'd rush to eat at again, will maybe just go for the evening gigs.

Nothing special but these get 3-4 stars on their own The halloumi wrap was burned and instead of mixed leaves it was a pile of iceberg lettuce, not impressed for nearly £10!! The potato hash was described as grated potato with red onion and a poached egg. It looked more like a chopped up jacket potato with barely cooked red onion mixed in. Again, with the bacon,£10. The tuna melt appeared to be fried and was very greasy. In fairness they were fairly busy but given that it took over 30 minutes to get the food I was at least expecting something half decent. Very disappointed

Visited with a friend who wanted to meet for coffee. The staff seemed friendly enough which is what makes it such a shame about our visit, however- I visited with my son who is a toddler. The play area was filthy, and I mean toys with black dirt all over them and broken sharp edges on some, we baby wiped everything before he played with it and had to streamline what he could pick up in the first place due to the sharp broken edges on some of the toys. The high chair I went to put him in was so badly damaged at the bottom and side that it actually came apart when I picked it up and a staff member had to dispose of it, so had to get another and when his omelette came out (baring in mind it was on a child's menu) it was swimming in butter and had several massive pieces of egg shells in it I also asked for nothing to be put on the salad and then a sugary vinaigrette was put all over it meaning my son couldn't even have it. It was also quite pricey for what actually came out. I wouldn't take him there again and would not recommend it to friends with toddlers or small children at all. Especially with such other good options on the high street.

Service was friendly but couldn't bring myself to tip such bad food, glad I didn't tip beforehand when prompted! Would not recommend.

I feel terrible leaving a bad review, but the food we were served this morning was among the worst we've EVER had. The veggie sausages were cremated, the poached eggs were like chewy rubber, and (as you can see from the picture) the hollandaise sauce on the Eggs Benedict was indescribably bad - especially for a dish that was just under £10. It's such a shame, as it's a lovely cafe in a beautful setting. We certainly won't be back.

I've wanted to visit here for ages after seeing it on Instagram as it looked really pretty and hidden and it was beautiful. But there was alot of staff on and noone really acknowledged us so we found a seat. Our young waitress really looked miserable and barely spoke to us, she spilled drink on the table next to us. The food was nothing special but did come out fast. Great atmosphere but probably wouldn't visit again but the music line up looks fab and would return for that.

We visited KGC for Sunday brunch, service was swift and friendly, the setting was very relaxed and comfortable- with the option of sitting outdoors or indoors- and the food was tasty and of good quality. The cafe is set-off the high street and is a 'tranquil oasis' in an urban setting- ideal for a peaceful brunch or coffee.

I had heard good things about this place many many years ago and have been wanting to try it for ages - and I wasn’t disappointed! The setting is lovely - you enter through a small and quirky plant shop, past a craft and gift shop and into a small sunny courtyard with a few outdoor tables to the main cafe. The menu is simple but perfect for a reasonably priced light lunch - they also had lots of delicious looking cakes - and an unexpectedly long list of milkshake flavours. My 3 fussy kids were delighted with the options on offer - omelettes, sausage and chips and the all day breakfast and my husband and I enjoyed the Eggs Benedict and Florentine respectively - my only criticism that it seems they forgot to toast the English muffins! The food was well cooked and presented though and the service was friendly and efficient. We will definitely be going back.

Friday afternoon shopping with a friend bought us to this wonderful cafe/Restaurant/Music venue, we had visited some years back and pleased to see it’s still a great place for a rest or chat. Everyone of the staff were excellent, the drinks we had delicious and plenty of seating for all, its a music venue some evenings and the toilets were clean and tidy.. recommended.

Been here a few times for various gigs I really like the place but the prices for drinks are too high for a side street bar in a very run down high street ( changed for the worse over the years ) and I might get banned for speaking my mind about the place but at the end of the day if people can't critise a place for its faults how would they ever know

my friends used this venue for there wedding ceromony and reception, as best man i was the point of contact for the staff. i would like to particularly like to thank Ruby, Tracy and Promise for making the day go without a problem, your commintment to customer service was amazing. i would also like to thank all the other staff that made the day go so smoothly whos names i did not get. the venue was awsome with very nice decor and a very wide range of quality alcoholic drinks, cocktails and soft drinks. the food was fantastic and more than catered for or hungry guests. thanks again, Andy.

Hot chocolate was tepid, tables and toilet were not clean and baked potato was decidedly average with cheap ‘plastic’ cheese. Won’t be in a hurry to return

Quite a few items were sold out and then once we did order they only brought out one set of food and didn't realise until we queried it afterwards. We then had to wait for the second meals to be cooked while the other was eaten. Also checked the receipt once left and realised we'd been overcharged. The food was alright and the idea of the cafe is cute but it seemed to not have any clear management.

Strange and quirky cafe/bistro that doubles also as a garden centre by day and a cosy little venue, called Fletchers, at night. The metal containers on the tables that hold the cutlery need renewed as they are covered in rust, which can't be hygenic. The cafe closes in the afternoon and Fletchers bar opens in the evening and is accessed from a different doorway. Alcohol is bought at the bar then taken through to the cost little venue that seats around 100. It's a great little space for live music. The bar staff are friendly and were up for a bit of banter as soon as they heard our Scottish accents.

Cute café but can be hit and miss unfortunately. Booked for Sunday lunch, arrived and shown to table but when we went to order it turned out they'd actually sold out of all non veggie roasts (except for one, which didn't help with a party of four booked for Sunday lunch!) - not sure why there was no mention of this on arrival and why there were still signs on the street advertising the roasts? I sent a polite Facebook message asking if it was normal to sell out of roasts so early in the day and if there was any way to find out before arriving for a booking next time - the response? An angry face emoji!!!!!!? There were some service issues during the visit also, including some attitude when asking for hot water to be able to warm up a baby bottle which was pretty surprising. I've read some other reviews mentioning a decline in service over the years and this experience has definitely left a sour taste, clearly some immaturity at the management level.

Had my wedding there Nov 2022, it was Christmas themed, it was beautiful, the staff here are truly amazing, I just told them what I wanted, left the decorations and they did everything, they went above and beyond to ensure it was perfect! And the price was amazing for what you get, couldn't have had it better anywhere else! We had a small wedding with around 32 of us in total and this space accommodated beautifully, tho you could diffo had more. This place is the best for weddings, kind and amazing staff, great price, food is literally amazing and can tailor it to you, honestly I suggest this place to everyone xxxx gave me n my husband an amazing stress free day 😍😁 thank you kitchen garden café! xxx

Quirky little cafe set amongst a garden centre that reminds me of something from the secret garden. Went on a Sunday and had the breakfast. Limited menu but catered for all ( vegetarian and vegan). The milkshakes were amazing!! We had banana and peanut butter/caramel. They do soya and oat alternative milks too. Lovely little place and would definitely come again. We had dessert to take away....vegan friendly and to die for!! Highly recommend

Nice ambiance but the food is just okay, i am hoping to get more fresh food here as it’s name is garden cafe but seem not so much in the menu. I try the salad, it was like caesar but just ok not so bad and for lunch i try the salmon risotto… it’s just too salty. So i try the kebabs and also okay. The staff is friendly enough and the prices is ok.

I really like this venue, it’s one of my favourite in Birmingham, but sadly the food is very basic and not worth going out for. It has a lovely courtyard seating area and a characterful restaurant, with a nice entrance through a garden shop. I really really wish they would totally re-think the kitchen and food menu as it could be soooo much better. Hopefully one day they will. When they do I’ll be there everyday as I love the place. Please management think about it!

Popped in on Sunday, remembering fond memories of this from a while back. Ordered two breakfasts from the counter and drinks and was immediately hit with a demand for a tip, which I gave. The drinks then took an age to arrive and were wrong. The (rather expensive) babychino had no marshmallows and my Cappuccino had become an Expresso. When I pointed this out the waitress said: "Well. That's what it says on the ticket. If you want a different drink you'll need to go pay for it." Somewhat soured the experience. Lovely location, food fine but overpriced and service: well, I see why they ask for that tip upfront...

The best asian restaurant in Sutton Coldfield. My wife and I go here often and it is by far the best around. The breadth, variety and quality of food is exceptional. The food is only matched by the incredible staff. A must if you are in the area.
