Kirkgate Fisheries in East Riding of Yorkshire

as the chippy I was going to was closed ( 12-10 friday lunchtime ?? ) I had a sudden thought, there's a chippy just across the road junction, not been there for ages as it was rubbish, what a pleasant surprise, what a hive of activity, ordered regular Cod n chips, all freshly cooked to order, they were absolutely superb best ive had for a long time.and at £9-55 not a bad price as well, will definitely go there next time i'm in Brid.

We arrived at 5:30 parked the car and joined the queue for around half hour outside the shop for the best fish and chips we have had this year . It was all cooked fresh to order . The chips were very tasty and lots of them . The fish had light batter cooked to perfection. The price was very fair for size and quality. In my opinion the wait was worth it .

Brilliant food so friendly staff still hot when got home defo be going back because my kids love it 😀

one medium and one large haddock take away was a dry overcooked waste of money and more expensive than other local shops, we will never use again

Excellent fish &chips possibly best in Bridlington. Always enjoyed Kirkgate fisheries but now under new management.

Use to go to 149 but since Deep blue took it over it's not very good but just was lucky enough to find that this shop has been under new management for 5 weeks and they used to work at 149. Fabulous fish and chips in boxes so they don't stick to the paper. Prices great ,fish cooked spot on with crispy batter and superb chips . May be a new name as well as the management I will have a look next time I go because I certainly will be going back.

Classic Fish 'n Chip shop. Freshly cooked fish and ample portions I thoroughly enjoyed my Haddock and chips with a few scaps, of course!

Excellent fish and chips that were freshly cooked to order. Very good quality and all at a good price. Staff very freindly and we were made to feel very welcome and would definitely go back again.

We were looking for fish chips and curry sauce. they did not have a curry sauce so we went elswhere pity as its easy to park across the road it is just a take a way

Needed a quick and filling meal, so enjoyed the Kirkgate Special, a smaller portion, but great taste. So far, it is the best in Bridlington!

We called in for a bag o' chips snack after mooching around the old town. Lovely chips, and served with a smile.

A small chippie but a very good one. Fish is freshly caught and tastes it; ship to shore the same day and always a pleasant surprise to have that melting whiteness in your mouth. Potatoes are named, selected seasonally, and locally sourced.

When I was a kid we lived just up the road from this chip shop and it was our "local" . I can remember seeing queues out the door on Fridays and Saturdays. Those days are long gone but I usually call in when I'm back in Brid as I was a couple of weeks ago. It was Friday evening but there was only one person in front of me in the shop. I ordered cod and chips twice. The fish were a decent size and were cooked to order. The meat was tasty and there were plenty of "real" chips. The counter staff were friendly. My only problem was with the batter, it was a bit on the thin side and as the fish were cooked to order it didn't have time to cool before it was put in the wrapping. As a result when I got home more of the batter stayed on the paper than on the fish which was not great. I think the battered fish needs to "dry off" a bit before being wrapped. Otherwise, very good!

Asked if had any cod, told yes,but then watched as temperature probe put into battered fish about 5 times.Assume fish was frozen from this action,confirmed when we got home and found middle of fish was still frozen and uncooked.Fishery was closed when we went back to complain

Never had a bad meal from here. Open every day. Fried to order means your fish is at its best. They do smaller portions for smaller appetites too

Probé este fish and chips mientras visitaba el priorato al otro lado de la carretera. Ellos encontraron que no es de mi agrado. Aceite viejo y probado el pescado y patatas fritas muy aceitosa.

Lovely fish and chips that don't hold back on the portions and even better they deliver. Great food and great service

usual chippy was shut, so thought we would try this one.Ordered 2 cod,he kept testing it with a thermometer, but when we got home discovered one of the fish had a large piece of bone in it, and was still raw around the bone. Batter was quite hard on the outside, but undercooked inside,way too much batter used.Will not be using this shop again.

Had 4 fish specials, fishcakes and battered black pud delivered - service was great, delivery driver polite and the food AWESOME ! Perfectly cooked fish, chippy chips and curry/peas to die for. Kids loved the fishcakes and there were plenty of chips for the adults to share those - same can't be said for the black pudding as it vanished almost instantly lol. Would recommend highly, and will be using in future

This is a great fish shop,selling quality fish and chips, they are not cheap but well worth the money. We got 2 fish and a portion of chips for just over £9, but they tasted fantastic. We used to visit this fish shop many years ago under different ownership and it was quality then, but then changed hands and went downhill fast. The present owners are doing a great job selling a top quality product, if you are in the area give it a try. In my opinion it is better than another fish and chip shop which is close by (at one four something Marton road) that won the best fish and chip shop in the country a couple of years ago.

We arrived as a tired, fractious family, looking for dinner. The two ladies behind the counter were brilliant. Food was cooked fresh, and nothing was too much trouble. They made our three young (1, 3, 5) boys laugh, and made sure we had everything we needed and more. Brilliant.

We are staying in nearby Filey and have had the day in Bridlingon. Fast service of fresh good old fish n chips!! Staff really friendly. A gem in Bridlintgon! Would recommend.

Called with my son today and received not only the best service EVER in a fish and chip shop but also fresh and made to order fish and chips!! As I'm local I have tried many fish shops but this is definitely my new favourite. The fish was sublime...so fresh and flaky with lovely crispy batter AND the gentleman behind the counter kindly offered to cook my sons favourite ( black pudding potato bites!) with just a little notice....service above and waaaaay beyond the expected. Well done Kirkgate Fisheries.

We visited recently and were really impressed with the quality, large sized portions which were well cooked. The batter on the fish was crispy, the chips were well cooked and the friendly welcome from the server made it a first class experience.

A take away that I have previously been too and enjoyed. This time however will be my last ever visit.We arrived at the shop for a takeaway meal at 13:10 and were told bluntly that they were no longer frying. The shop is advertised to be open until 13:30. I asked why they were not frying anymore and was told 'because I have called last orders'. Now I could understand this if I had arrived a couple of mins before closing but not twenty mins. Totally rude and careless attitude of staff member will stop me from spending any more cash here. My money is better spent elsewhere. Wise I up Kirkgate or you will be out of business.

Heard about this shop being really nice and friendly. Been a few times and now its my favourite one around here. Really nice, cant beat it. Would recommend to anyone.

worst chips in bridlington. covered in black bits and over cooked. Been twice, both times very disappointed. will not go again. avoid!!

Popped to get my dad his tea, the fish was huge. Tasted lovely, had to wait but was all cooked fresh. Had one very happy (hard to please) dad

Absolutely disgusted with this chip shop! On a quick visit me and my family went into this chippy and we got fish and chips, chips and gravy! The chips was disgraceful was nothing like chips, had no potato in them and looked asif the fryer had not been cleaned out for months! All black bits on the chips and looked liked scraps! Took our food back and the staff was RUDE! Will deffinatley not recommend this chippy to anyone!!!

My partner and I always goes to Kirgates Chippy every week for our usual. The staff are always friendly and the food is just amazing. Best Chippy in town!!

After been a regular user of a chip shop on marton rd(which went down hill when the original owners sold it on) i was lost at which chippy to use, then on my way home one night i happened to see that kirkgates had reopened so myself an the wife nipped in.A lovely welcome from the guy behind the counter and a great selection on the menu.And to my amazement they had black pudding and haggis ok maybe not everyones cup of tea but i love the stuff.This is now my local chippy and we go at least once a week, i even got called in one night whilst i was sat in the car waiting for my wife by the young lad to have a chat about my car and bit off topic but nice to be able to know that its not just "walk in, buy food, leave"

Nice fish and chips. Decent prices, often has offers. Sometimes leaves after taste, but one of the better establishments in brid

I will admit I was enticed to use this chippy by their half price week long offer but I can assure you I wont be using any other chip shop in Bridlington again. The quality of the food and the customer service was 100% excellent. Generous portions and freshly cooked. The homemade pies are to die for. Highly recommended

I am sorry to say that the food went in bin. On 1st look a nice big fish but undercooked and all slimey inside. The chips on the other hand all overcooked hard and crispy. As you can imagine never going back again

We were spending a few days in Brid and just happened to be cycling past and looking out for a supper. We were lucky enough to be there at the time of their half-price for everything first birthday celebrations. The staff were friendly, informative and helpful, and the fish and chips were as good as any we have ever tasted. Will certainly visit again when we are in the area.

I've now been several times and had lovely fish and chips. Good size portions and they do a cheap kirkgate special always available (basically a small fish & chips with side of peas or gravy) Certainly one of the best chipies in Brid :)

Really good food. They obviously care a lot about the quality of what they make for their customers. Worth trying some of the specials too. The Blaggis pie was excellent and even nicer when eaten cold the next day

I have sampled kirkgates fish and chips on two occasions and each time the quality was hands and heels above any other establishment in the area,a great service with pleasant staff,I also noticed that they are widening their menu to include scotch eggs,haggis fingers and homemade pies ,again quite a unique menu and well worth a visit when in Bridlington

Kirkgate came recommended and we are so pleased we followed it up on our trip to Bridlington. We had the Kirkgate Special, a small cod, chips and peas for £3.80 all served in a strong serviceable box. The fish was deliciously moist and full of flavour. You could almost taste the sea it was so fresh! The batter was perfect, light and crispy not at all heavy and the chips appeared to be home made rather than mass produced, full of taste, not hard or re-heated as you often experience. I honestly have not had fish and chips of this excellent standard for a very long time. Can't recommend it enough! We will definitely be back even though it may be an hour and a half away!

I’ve been going to Kirkgate fisheries twice a week from the day they opened. My friend and I have there special Fish & chips & peas. Fish is fresh and well cooked Chips are excellent and there is always plenty. The quality of the food is exceptionally good. It would be hard to find a restaurant that can match their standards of excellence. The staff are always friendly and polite and make you welcome with a friendly smile.

The date of the visit is really a guess but it was opening week and the fish shop had had publicity in the local press with special opening offers. We went on the Saturdafy lunchtime, there were a few people in front of us, one gentleman had been given a totally wrong order, the man frying was being very abusive to his staff which does not look good. We ordered LIGHTLY battered haddock which we were told was ok but which turned out to be thick pudding type batter YUK, fish could also have been fresher and I doubt it was haddock. One to avoid.

Was disappointed at the wait just for chips. The staff were friendly and apologetic but was a bit of bad time management there I feel. The chips also went cool quite quick once opened. Not a good first experience.

I visited this Take Away when it first opened and have returned many times since to enjoy quite fantastic Freshly cook Fish and chips. These Guys really know there stuff and the food on offer is quite exceptional for a small take away. Restaurant quality on a shoestring budget. The Kirkgate special is £3.50. You gate a Small Haddock, chips and a choice of Mushy Peas or beans with it. You cannot go wrong here. The Fish is tasty and the chips perfect. There is more on offer here too with regular size fish and daily specials on the Blackboard. When I was last in Whiting was on the board and thats my favourite. Along with the Specials there are the usual fishcakes and Sausage, everything you get from a traditional Chip shop. Don't be fooled though this is not your run of the mill Chippy. They serve home made crab cakes and also have side orders of Black Pudding that they deep-fry in their tasty batter along with onion rings and other things like Mushrooms. Check the Blackboard to see what's on.Everything is Fresh and the fish is cooked to order so you get it in perfect condition with a crispy tasty batter. There isn't much else to say other than go on try it if your up near Kirkgate or visiting the old town.
