We have been to this restaurant a few times before and the food has always been good. Went for lunch with our young children last Saturday. There was only one waiter for the entire restaurant. He took our orders (katsu curry, rice, sashimi) after 15 minutes of waiting. The sashimi and rice came after 20 minutes but the curry never came. We were very patient and waited for a whole HOUR!!! We asked the waiter and he just kept making excuses (clearly they forgot the order). No apologies at all from the waiter. We decided to leave and they had the audacity to ask for payment. W asked to speak with the manager who said he was too busy to attend to us. VERY POOR experience and I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this place to anyone.

Beautiful find in Ealing Common Amazed this gem of a restaurant with high quality sushi is where it is. We were lucky to stumble into the place late and ordered the edamame which was perfectly seasoned, lightly fried Agedashi tofu, assorted nigiri and rolls and some mushroom tempura. We’re still thinking about how light and gentle the fish was melting, there was just the right amount of rice and the batter of the tempura was light and airy. Without drink expect to spend around £35 per head and do order the fatty tuna special

We used to come here all the time and used to love this place. It was very simple but there was so many choices in the menu. We would have loads to choose from but now there’s hardly anything to order. Don’t get me wrong, the food is good and the staff is lovely but there’s just not enough choices. Where’s the soft shell crab?? It was always our go to sushi restaurant in Ealing along with Haru. But this place has changed ownership and Haru closed! Very disappointed!!!

I don’t know what happened to this place, it’s a reduced menu with less things. The nigiri looks smaller than before and the curry dish is more salty than before. Didn’t enjoy and felt they were worse than before

I have eaten at this resteraunt for many years and have always enjoyed the place very much . But this evening I was so disappointed. Let me explain , I ordered a fair amount of food , when my sashimi arrived there was no pickled ginger ,something I am very partial too ! I asked the waitress to bring me some ginger please . To my amazement she said I would have to pay extra . I could not believe it ! I asked to see the manager and he sided with the waitress !! Clearly the place has changed hands or something . By the way , I spent in excess of £ 60 pounds on dinner just on myself . So a good spending customer you would think . I shall not return. Shame really . Very poor management and customer relations.

We first came here some years ago and it was very much aimed at the Japanese clientele with very little English explanation on the menu. I think now it is aimed more at English speaking customers and although the food is very good (salmon and tuna very fresh) I felt it was less authentic. The decor is basic but that’s fine. I believe it changed ownership a while ago so maybe that is why it’s become a bit more mainstream. Would definitely return another time.

This is a very popular and long established place (it's been a couple of years since we were last here). There's a good selection of hot dishes, including soba and tempura, as well as good quality sushi. Prices are high, but broadly in line with other Japanese establishments in the area. We found the service to be friendly and competent, but there's not much of an ambience. It's basically about the food.

We come regularly to this Japanese restaurant. Everything is outstanding from the tempura, the maki, the sashimi and the matcha ice for desert. This place can not be faulted. The fish could not be fresher. Besides this the staff is very customer focused and always try their very best to provide the best service possible. Keep up the good work! Thank you

I have been going to this restaurant for 10-plus years and have noticed the standards -- both of the food and service -- slipping steadily. The staff were unable to cope at dinner, basic orders were missed and the dishes did arrive in sync. And the all-round quality is a shadow of its former self. A real shame.

We live closely and often eat at this excellent little Japanese restaurant. There is a large Japanese local population in Ealing and the area is consequently well served by the number of sushi bars, restaurants and small supermarkets. Kiraku sits at the top table of all of them. The very simple interior belies the fact that this is sushi of the very highest quality. The nigiri are perfectly balanced and the sashimi some of the best I have tasted. The presentation and detailing very good indeed. The service is always warm and friendly and while this is not a place of sophistication, it is a easy place to spend a couple of hours chatting over fantastic food and very cold Asahi. It's not cheap, but we always say worth every penny. This week's visit was, once again, an outstanding meal.

Sad to say that this Japanese restaurant has really gone down hill. We reserved a table but they forgot. The food was ok nothing great. And it took forever to get served. Also the bill is was crazy expensive and we all left feeling hungry. I would not go back to this restaurant.

I don't like leaving bad review but This restaurant was really a bad experience. I was swayed by the fact that it is liked and visited by a lot of the Japanese community and the Michelin guide stickers on the window.Let me be clear the food was nice , not succulent , but nice. However that's all I'll give 3 stars for. Service (cooking) was super slow. It took 25mins for my meal to come (a medium rare rib eye, rice, fruit and salad on one bento tray). The miso came after I finished my meal, the extra green beans I asked for as well... and to top it all it cost £20!

This restaurant is packed with Japanese people and that includes the chef. Such a little gem in Ealing. The food is amazing, well presented and always fresh. My favourite is the soft shell crab sushi deluxe, but there is so much choice here that I tend to look at what the "locals" have chosen and go with it.Highly recommended. The first thing you'll see when entering this restaurant is the number of Japanese people eating here. We were the only westerners there! I loved it :) The food is like the one I've eaten in Japan. Certain, it is not a cheap place, but I can vouch for them on authenticity (been many times to Japan). Service is ok, there is one girl that's a bit grumpy, but after you come a couple of times she is less. I would recommend to take one of the sets. The fish freshness and quality is outstanding, presentation of the dishes as well, very neat. I come here regularly, worth the trip! They have a private area/room downstairs which you can book and reserve. If you're on a budget, come at lunch time, the sets are very good price-quality. one only negative thing: sometimes the floor is sticky because of the product they use. Ah, and I was expecting a full Japanese toilet, shame they don't have it (they have normal one, of course)! Reserve ahead if you go on a weekend or Friday night.

I started visiting this place once Atariya (down the road) went downhill under its new management. But unfortunately the prices here are not justifiable. Like atariya the fish is good and fresh. But like atariya the fish isn't cut properly, the rice to fish ratio for nigiri was all wrong (hunk of rice sliver of fish) and it really wasn't worth the price. The sake maki was ok but inari make just fell apart.Bog standard stuff at hyper inflated prices.

I frequently visit Kiraku with my family, simply because the food is that good. The Ealing Common / Acton area has a large Japanese community and the fact that they too frequent their local is a great sign! The food here is of great quality, you can really taste how fresh each dish is. Plus there's traditional Japanese dishes for everyone, sushi lovers or those who like their food hot. The dishes I recommend are the fish cakes (hot) and the shoku carpaccio- quality fish dressed with garlic and soy.The atmosphere is that of a classic Japanese canteen so don't expect a fine dining experience, but with the food as good as it is it's not an issue.Anyone looking for real sushi in London needs to make the effort to visit Kiraku.

My wife and I come here occasionally. We had 8 different nigiri between us and all were delicious and about £3 each on average. I found the mackerel and fatty tuna particularly great although the tofu was also particularly good. We followed this by a full sized chicken katsu curry (as opposed to thelunchbox version) which was delicious with loads of gravy but to be honest too small a portion of chicken and far too much rice. For dessert we shared some of the green tea sponge and ice cream The spong was light and not too sweet and the ice cream tasted very strongly of green tea - not too sweet with a hint of bitterness and tanin - but rather expensive at £7.20. With green tea for two the bill came to nearly £70 including service which is expensive hence 1 star deducted for value. There are always loads of young (and noisy) kids here for some reason.

I am a huge fan of Japanese food and have eaten at many Japanese restaurants in London and across the globe. Kiraku is still the best I have been to, with Sushi Rapture in San Francisco a close second. It is an unassuming restaurant, in the style of a Japanese canteen, but don't let that put you off as the food is sublime. It is also very positive that the restaurant is always filled with Japanese people. There is always a seasonal specials menu at the front of the menu as well as a specials board that changes frequently, don't forget to order off these menus too!I can highly recommend their deep fried fish cake with seaweed which is just so light in a batter that has been crisped to perfection and just tastes so delectable. Their takoyaki (octopus dumplings) are the best I've ever had, with a generous portion of octopus inside, not scrimped on like some restaurants, and again are light and flavoursome. Their aubergine salad is divine in a delicious sauce and their sashimi carpaccio salad is a must. It comes with salmon, tuna and seabream with a warm dressing of garlic and sesame oil that just makes it heavenly. Having a soft shell crab addiction I always have their soft shell deluxe roll is scrumptious. I can also wholeheartedly recommend their Kiraku Special Roll which is crispy salmon skin with avocado and fish roe as well as their Dragon Roll which is a California roll with eel on top.I just can't recommend this restaurant more, if you love Japanese food this is the place to come!

Having read the glowing reviews by other readers and taking advantage of a special offer from Amex cards, I went there to experience this for myself. First, I noticed the Bangladeshi waiter greeting all the Japanese visitors with an enthusiastic 'Gosai masta' but not others and then noticed him wiping the spoons with his fingers before placing them before customers. I wiped my cutlery with the napkin as a precaution. Not a good start. My son's katsu curry arrived about 15 minutes later, with the sauce resembling something I'd rather not say (see photo instead). A smallish piece of chicken breast which was cold had been thrown on the rice. I tasted the curry sauce and realised it had more garam masala in it than normal- when the Bangladeshi cook came out, I could imagine that he had been too enthusiastic with the spices. The waiter and the manager apologised that my Saba (grilled mackerel) was taking long because apparently grilling takes a long time. My food finally appeared after 35 minutes of ordering. It was okay and a better choice than the katsu curry. When it came to the bill payment, I tried to pay with the Amex card as per the offer and this was refused. I told the waiter that Kiraku had advertised themselves on the Amex website (see screen shot attached). Confronted with this evidence, the waiter retracted and agreed to use the card but the manager came back and said the owner had asked not take it. Anyway, politely and with as much discretion towards other customers that I could manage, I paid using another card. Without drinks and just the main course, it came to about £30 (including service!). Having lived in Japan and with knowledge of the cuisine, I am disappointed with the food and service there. I had been going to Sushi Atariya, just couple of shops away and I will stick with them- better service and food. Wagamama offers better value too.

Went here for a meal with friends one evening after always wanting to try this place - I'm a big fan of Japanese food and had heard good things about Kiraku. We were greeted with cries of "irasshaimase!" when we walked into the place, which certainly added to the experience! Unlike many of the well-known inner city Japanese joints, Kiraku is modestly decorated and certainly does have an ostentatious vibe to it - it's very much an informal place to enjoy some excellent food. We ordered a few dishes to share - a mixed sushi platter, 2 platters of maki rolls, mixed tempura and chicken teriyaki, all of which were delicious, of very high quality ingredients and arrived perfectly staggered so that we could enjoy each individual dish on its own. This was accompanied by a flask of the house sake (excellent might I add!) and green tea (with unlimited refills). We rounded off the meal with some pallet-cleansing macha (green tea) ice cream, which was delicious. While the meal was not cheap by any stretch of the imagination (came to £95 for the 3 of us!), the quality of the food, service and experience certainly made up for this. I will definitely be returning - highly recommended!

this is the most authentic Japanese restaurant I have found in London. It's good value and don't believe some of the other reviews. In Tokyo you would pay twice the price. Will definitely go there again, the noodle hot pot is great, and the sushi is top quality. Simple decoration, but the food shows the typical attention to quality you expect from Japan.

I wouldn't normally go I'm to a place for a business lunch if from the outside it looks like a greasy spoon !Once in and seated though you get over it, watch a bit a Japanese tele and order loads of stuff because it's really reasonable. The food was brilliant, the wine list is rubbish though. If you like Japanese food then you should come. If you want a boozy lunch with ambience then this is not the place for you.

My wife and I reserved a table here though the restaurant was quiet when we arrived but was nearly full soon after. The Katsu curry was excellent and as a set meal was served with miso soup, rice, salad and a little fruit. We ordered nigiri as a starter but it came after the set meal as the sushi chef was very busy. The nigiri were delicious, the fish being very fresh as you would expect. Service was efficient and polite though you do get charged a 15% service charge automatically which is quite steep. The meal came to about £56 with service and we only had green tea. The one drawback today were the 6 very young children a couple of whom were very loud indeed but otherwise we enjoyed ourselves. The odd thing about this place is that last orders were called about 2.20 so don't delay too much if you want to order more food.

My husband and I used to live within minutes of Kiraku and we always enjoyed our meals here. From the Bara chirashi and soft shell crab roll have always been our favourites. They also have some great octupus dumplings and yummy green tea ice-cream. Great, attentive service and friendly staff. Pair that with fresh ingredients... what more can you ask for?

We thought we go to Kiraku instead of the usual Central London offers, the food definitely up to standard but the prices are expensive, offering smaller portions and inflated prices. The service was poor, constantly having to flag down staff and when staff eventually came they were rude and blunt. Would not recommend Kiraku unless you were prepared to spend loads and had loads of patience.

This was easily the best Japanese food I have ever had (and I have had quite a lot!). Service was great, although all our food didn't come out at the same time, but not so long a wait as to let the rest go cold! And to be fair they were quite busy. The only downside to this meal was the price which was ridiculous, as a non-Londoner I find London prices blow my mind, but this..... Well, it was a one off.

Before I start let me say I am a chef with 15 years experience and a japanese food lover having spent countless hours and money eating, reading, making japanese food so take my word when I say this is good this is been my local and favourite japanese restaurant for a long time so its only about time I write a well deserved review , so as you might have gathered from the title this place is usually filled with japanese people and families,it has a relaxed atmosphere and is really down to earth . it does not pretend to be some high class place but rather focuses on excellent food and friendly approach ,the japanese waiting staff is as polite as it gets ,having been here more times that i can remember I cannot recall ever leaving unsatisfied . You can spend from £30 per person to £80 depending on what you drink and how much food you wanna cram in you belly ,personally I eat alot and always drink a few sakes and some yuzushu at the end of the meal and usually spend £40 per person so very reasonable considering the generous portions and the really good quality food . I recommend this place to all that love authentic japanese food .

We were the only sober people dining at the restaurant tonight. We ordered 8 dishes and none of them were any good. It left me wishing that we had gone somewhere else. First off, our waiter had bad BO. Second, he screwed up our order and tempura soba became plain tempura. It then took 30 minutes and repeated requests before the soba arrived. The vegetable tempura was soggy. The squid tempura was also disappointing, and the squid was overcooked. To top it all off, there was too much salt in the soba and I'm sat here 2 hours later drinking copious amounts of water to get the taste out of my mouth. And the waiter still tried to sneak the service charge past us. Lots of Japanese clientele but they were drinking more than eating, which says it all really.

Went with my bf on a Wednesday night, was disappointed. The grilled aubergine was not grilled at all, it's more like boiled with some barbecue sauce on it( normally should be miso dressing for it). It tastes bad. My bf doesn't like his udon neither, the noodles were over cooked and soup was not nice. My shirashi was alrite but not amazing, you get much better ones with similar price elsewhere. The price overal is high, especially for such kind of food. Wouldn't recommend, look for better choices!

I tried lunch set Sushi + salmon teriyaki.Very generous portions, good value for money, fresh thick cut sashimi on sushi pieces.Sashimi quality was really good I think,Teriyaki was good but nothing special, and sushi vinegar flavour was rather too light for my preference. The place was very busy with Japanese people, and booking table is recommended.Personally, this is a great option for Japanese food if you live in the area, but not that special to travel from central London.

If you want a bit of Japan, that the one for you ! Local Japanese people (Japanese school not far !) go there. Never been to Tokyo, but i definately felt like not being in London. Delicious Bento Boxes and Sushi that I order regularly. Above average in terms of price, but worthwhile.

This is a great Japanese restaurant, popular with local Japanese residents. The service has remained high, but I have noticed that they do not provide little welcome dishes upon arrival anymore (cauliflower with a small tasty sauce) or the hot towels at the end of the meal.Despite this however, the good is superb, tasty, delicious...amazing - say no more!Come here for exceptional food

We were recommended this place by a man married to a Japanese girl who lives in the area. We booked for 1pm on a Sunday and when we came in there were a few tables available but by 1.30 there was a queue out of the door and a long wait for a table. We were not new to Japanese food but not experts either and we went for 3 types of sushi as a starter and a chicken katsu bento box for main course. The sushi (salmon, tuna and sea bass) was superb but pretty expensive at about £18 in total. The bento boxes were more reasonably priced and contained a good range of salads, pickles rice and fruit. My wife particularly enjoys katsu and she said this was the best she had ever had, the chicken being corn fed and the breadcrumbs light and not greasy.Green tea was £1 for unlimited cups. The only problem I felt with this place was the people in the queue who made it uncomfortable to sit and enjoy the meal plus there were 3 large baby buggies in the restaurant which is only a small place and it meant climbing over them to get anywhere.

The food at Kiraku is absolutely Fantastic, I was searching for a Sushi restaurant, there were a few to choose from, I chose this one following a short video from Coolinarea which is on the website, I also tried the rainbow roll, mixed tempura, Salmon Maki, Sea bass, yellow tail, mackerel Nigiri, it was a little more than the £20 - £30 on coolinarea but the video was shot in 2009 lol So after a few green teas - I paid the bill on £55.00. a bit expensive for one person but I didn't go home hungry.

Been many times with my Japanese wife, family and friends. This is a Japanese restaurant designed for the Japanese. For the person who was unhappy because the head chef wasn't there and then the sushi didn't taste authentic, then maybe you should go back when the chef is going to be on duty and choose something authentically Japanese instead of one of the few non-Japanese dishes designed for gaijin. My wife (reminder that she is Japanese), many of our friends and family and I pronounce this our favourite Japanese restaurant in London.

When you have a small menu, you cannot afford to not have sime basic items, nor to make each dish above average. They do maybe 8 hot ramens, three cold ones, a couple of katsu curries, a few side dishes and only a couple of desserts. They had no cucumber which was offered with the gin, no slimlines, no caffeine- free coffee. My friend said her cauliflower vegan wings were nice, endemame beans with salt are an insult of a dush in any restaurant, their chilli chicken ramen with the chilli removed and extra chicken were ok and my chilli prawn ramen was, frankly, the worst ramen i have ever had. Bland lukewarm, insipid and tasteless broth, earthy spinach mass overpowering everything and two, yes only two!!!,smallish prawns. Joke of a dish. Apparently the cashew ice-cream eastside biscuit dessert was tasty. Prices are not stupid, but it really is not worth a visit. Its just not very good food.

I had an absolutely fantastic experience at The Woodstock Pub in Didsbury! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and friendly atmosphere that set the tone for the entire evening. First and foremost, I must commend the outstanding service provided by Kamila and Sam. They were not only attentive and accommodating but also went above and beyond to make sure our dining experience was exceptional. Their knowledge of the menu, recommendations, and friendly demeanor truly added to our enjoyment. Now, let's talk about the food! The dishes at The Woodstock Pub are nothing short of delicious. Each bite was a burst of flavor, and it's clear that the kitchen takes pride in their craft. From appetizers to dessert, every course was a delightful surprise. The quality and presentation of the food were outstanding, and I can't wait to return to try more dishes. Lastly, a special shoutout to the boss, Jimmy. His leadership shines through in the overall atmosphere and impeccable service at The Woodstock Pub. It's evident that he's created a welcoming and customer-focused establishment that stands out in the Didsbury dining scene. In summary, The Woodstock Pub is a hidden gem with top-notch service, delectable food, and a welcoming ambiance. Kamila, Sam, and Jimmy have created a winning combination that makes this place a must-visit. I can't recommend it enough!
