KIN+ILK in Cardiff

We stopped for a coffee on the way in to Cardiff by foot, it was the Capital Quarters location, not far from the Novotel. Lovely friendly staff, a fantastic late and awesome cortado as well as sone bacon rolls. They really could not do enough for us. One for the list of must go places when I want a decent coffee and a nice place to enjoy it.

We just called here for a quick bite to eat and settled for a sandwich and cake. We enjoyed the sandwich but the cake was too sweet and very expensive for the sliver that was served as a portion.

I have eaten here before and enjoyed it. On this visit three of us (two who had not been there before) had coffee’s and some toast. Two coffees were cold and the butter that came with the toast was curdled (inedible) We took the coffee back and they were remade and replaced. We didn’t bother about the butter and just used the jam.

Server had dirty bleached out clothing on when she served us, stuck out like a sore thumb. Dread to think what the kitchen looks like. I'd wear better clothing to wash my car

Female staff member was extremely rude and inconsiderate. Doesn’t know the meaning of customer service. She was not polite and I will not be returning.

Overpriced, very poor service ,staff very rude and not helpful . Shame as used to be a great new find , as the years have passed got worse . The staff are main issue , I find very rude and customer service is non existent

Extremely delicious coffee. So happy to stumble across this place! Will definitely be back for another coffee and some lunch.

Staff members forget how important it is to provide positive customer service. Most of the people working there look like they don't want to be there, and they look at you as if you were just a nuisance (rather than a customer). Last Friday (23rd June) the man behind the counter was so utterly unhelpful, this was the last last straw for me... and I've decided I won't be coming back (I used to visit this place about 3 times a week, due to convenience, because I work nearby). The man who served me las Friday was not wearing the usual uniform, as all the other staff members, maybe he was one of the managers(?). But, anyway, he had an attitude as if he was "too good to be serving any one" ... he was working behind the till, but he clearly didn't want to be there helping customers. Despite the convenience, I won't be going back there and I don't recommend it to anyone!

Nice coffee . Very expensive . The big turn off for me was the food counter very dusty, the chairs we sat on were stained and the toilet …. Filthy!!! Get some bleach in and around the toilet and have a good clean!!!

The entrance area was dirty with a doggie bag. I reported it but the staff stated it was not their job to clean it.

Bought a Coffee and it was OK; not spectacular. WiFi didn't work in the corner of the cafe. Expensive for what I got. Music was annoying. Staff unenthusiastic.

We were staying in a hotel close by that doesn’t serve breakfast and so went over for breakfast. The staff were friendly and the food was served piping hot using quality ingredients. A humble plate of scrambled eggs on toast was elevated with finishing touches.

My partner and I visited Cardiff to see family and friends over the Christmas period. We were staying in a local hotel and noticed this cafe for breakfast. (This was the Kin+Ilk on Cathedral Road, it was not an option in the cafe selection.) The food was fabulous, the service was approachable and friendly without being intrusive. I had the Turkish Eggs with a flat white. My partner had the scrambled eggs and an apple juice. All were pleasant and enjoyable. The barista was fast with the coffee and offered my partner a glass with the option of ice too. We would definitely come back for breakfast again!

Been going to this coffee shop since it opened. Wife and myself visited there yesterday, first time for 2 months. Could not believe how much this place has gone downhill. Poor service at counter. I had to request for the table to be cleared, full of dirty cups and dishes, left by previous customer. They came took the dishes and left previous customers food all over table. I again requested them to come and clean table, with no apology. Ordered coffees, after 25 mins still no sign of them. Back to the counter, asked if they had forgotten about us. “ No we have not” was reply “ You are next but one “. The shop was only half full. Coffee turned up after 30 mins. The Two coffees were barely Luke warm. Final straw, returned back to counter and requested a refund. The girl behind the counter did not know how to refund, she then had to go looking for the Manager to repay the transaction. Four staff were working in the shop itself, and neither of them had a clue on what they were doing. Management need to sort staff issues out. Poor experience overall. Never again !!

I recently visited kin and I’ll in cardiff city and I nearly passed out when they sold me a sandwich of 7,50 ????? The smallest sarnie ever even in London that’s overpriced what the hell !!! And it wasn’t that great either one half of sarnie in play yes …7:50 !!! Outrageous

Took over a payment out of my account over two weeks after apparently going here. Ridiculous and don't think I have ever been but don't know as it was 15 plus days ago.

Absolutely superb, fresh food, served with a smile. Lovely coffee and tea aswell, and a pleasant, bright location. We will definitely return.

We visited the Kin+ilk by the Smart Bridge. It reminded us of the kind of coffee shops/cafes you find throughout Scandinavia. Great oat flat white and soya dark hot chocolate. Very chilled out and not busy which was very welcome.

if you like to wait an hour for paoched eggs on toast, and be charged over £10 for it, then this is the place for you. personally, it's one of, if not the worst coffee shops I've ever been in

The best decaf coffee I have ever drank. Wonderful atmosphere in a relaxed environment.Lots of vegan options. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend.

Waited nearly an hour for a bacon sandwich for breakfast, and when it arrived, the bacon was so crisp it tasted like it was burnt, on sliced white bread, that was it. poor food and no apology. They are too short staffed to cope with...

Chance to catch up with eldest son and his girlfriend. Promised both a cooked breakfast. Chefs fail to turn up. Staff apologetic and friendly as usual. Alas much looked forward to occasion spoiled. Big let down. Poor.

I’m a big fan of filter coffee. Not sure why KIN+ILK charge more for it, but I prefer filter to a watered down espresso Americano. So I was please to find that KIN+ILK have house filter & a choice of V60 filtered coffees. I ordered...

KIN+ILK do really good food, there is no doubt about it. However, it always seems so unnecessarily expensive? I understand they’re trying to get the best produce they can, and I’m sure some people think it’s very reasonable. For a quick lunch though? Maybe not....

Lovely hot chocolate drink with caramel and sea salt, delicious. Also the chocolate biscuit slice I had was nice, open airy area to sit and drink. Very good.

I wanted a really nice attractive place for a really good breakfast for a party of wedding guests before we left for the wedding at St Fagans. We were lucky in that this was recommended by the owner of the house and we were pleased to find it was just at the end of the road where we were staying. It was relatively early but I think maybe more staff needed when it gets busy, the service seemed slow but we were not in a hurry and wanted to enjoy the food, which was excellent. there were 5 of us and it was a bit slow, the next day there were 7 of us but again we were not in a hurry so not a problem. Papers to read so a nice touch. Would definitely visit again if ever staying nearby.

this company recently opened a franchise in the office building I work in. Unfortunately, I already have a mortgage to pay so I cant afford to take another one out to eat lunch here. Prices are unreasonable and astronomical for what is essentially just an outdoor office canteen.. £7 for a sanwich, crisps and a bottle of water... just LOL... laughing all the way to Lidl across the road

I’m a freelancer and Kin+Ilk in Pontcanna is my top choice for a work spot. The space is great - very light, busy at peak times and quiet enough during the rest of the day for meetings, as well as having loads of plug points/comfy seats. It’s close to town/Bute Park for a walk/NextBike cycle, and even though parking can be tricky sometimes, it’s still free and better than parking in the city.The coffee is great and I regularly eat from the veggie/vegan specials board which are always really tasty. The team are fantastic, friendly and recognise many of their regulars, which I I think is really important.Definitely my favourite spot for a coffee in Cardiff.

Myself and a friend visited this pop up coffee shop in St. David’s 2. The servers were too busy being self important to take the correct order. We had to wait 15 mins for the coffee was which an americo and it only arrived after we complained. The bread was stale on the tuna sandwich. We complained and the staff didn’t even apologise.Terrible service and poor quality. If I could have given it less than one star I would have. Dreadful place.

The best thing about Kin + Ilk is the bread - and that’s only because they don’t make it! Every single food item I’ve ever ordered from there has been awful. A curry that was basically flavourless water, their Leek and Potato soup which is flavourless lumpy water. The prices are extortionate, the servers always look miserable and sour faced. The coffee is mediocre at best. It’s a shocking £1.50 for a can of coke! Vile food, terrible service, bad atmosphere, low food hygiene. AVOID!

Stopped off at the St David's "pop up" coffee shop, ordered a white hot chocolate and a flat white. However we given a Cortado and the hot chocolate. We let the waiter know and was persistent that we ordered a Cortado despite the fact neither me nor my partner like them and would never ordered them. We also had a tuna sandwich which we felt was overpriced and the bread was bodering stale. Would no recommend, been to much better Coffee houses for same/less money.

Had a lovely breakfast here today, pancakes were fantastic and the staff took my partner's coeliac needs (gluten free) very seriously and made him a fantastic bacon and egg sandwich. Great service too. Thank you!

Wanted to like it, and had made a special journey to try it, but a little disappointing.OK it was Sunday morning, and there were a good number of customers, but it wasn’t that busy and we had to wait nearly 15 minutes for coffee. When they did arrive, the espresso was very good, but the soya cappuccino was more frothy coffee than cappuccino. (Alas a problem encountered in many establishments around Cardiff where the basics of good coffee making are a little lost these days).The plywood fit out might have looked very modern & clean when first installed, but I’m afraid looks rather tired & unloved now, & alas rather cheap. This perception wasn’t helped by the fact that it wasn’t the warmest, accentuating that sitting on plywood seats isn’t the most comforting.Plus, and again I acknowledge there were a good number of customers, the floors desperately needed cleaning.Not a joyous time worthy of repeat then.

Highly recommend Kin and ilk coffee shop all the staff are always welcoming and friendly. The staff always remember my order. I usually visit twice a day as work opposite so go get a Carmel latte which is always made exactly how I like it.

I have been visiting Kin + ilk for roughly three months and the hot drinks are easily the nicest of any place I have been to in cardiff! The atmosphere is always relaxed and the staff never fail to have a positive influence on the people they serve.

Great service, food and coffee! All work colleagues go here everyday and we thoroughly enjoy it. Would recommend.

Nice selection of food (avocado on sourdough or the halumi flatbread are DEVINE!), and great coffee!Lovely friendly staff who are always polite and helpful, they make me a sandwich from scratch without butter and it’s always fresh and tasty.Hot chocolate is beautiful too!Great location at Tyndall street, right by work so always our first stop at break or lunch. Just visited the Capital quarter branch of this rip off cafe as I thought I would give them another chance after previous disappointing visits. Unfortunately this episode was the worst of them all. I ordered a ham and cheese toastie which I twice specified that I wanted WHITE bread. I then wait 15 minutes for the toastie (bearing in mind I was the only customer in the place) and take it back to my workplace. Upon opening the bag I find that they have once again (this has happened 4 times in the past) given me BROWN bread!! So I walk back over to the cafe and inform the extremely rude gentleman working on the till who doesn’t even acknowledge what I’m saying but walk back in the kitchen with my BROWN toastie. I wait a further 5 minutes this time only for a member of staff to come out from the kitchen with this time a WHITE toastie...FINALLY! (Only a small apology, NO offer of a refund or a gesture of goodwill)However this ridiculous episode concludes with an undercooked tasteless toastie and almost 45 minutes of my time wasted. I will NEVER visit any of your establishments in the future and I will be leaving the same review on all possible platforms.

Lovely place that's dog friendly , with good coffee , tasty homemade food and friendly staff . Went to the poncanna coffee house for the first time recently , and found the place to have friendly and helpful staff , comfy seating and good coffee and food .Will definitely try this place again

One of the best flat whites in Cardiff, great menu for brunch/lunch, local selection of beers. Perfect spot for post dog walk as it is dog friendly with water bowls and treats.

I used to love my visit here but over the last few months the quality and effort has gone shocking. I ordered pancakes came and if I threw them would have knocked somebody out just couldn't eat them. I ordered a toastie and it was burnt. I was going to order a keep till I saw the flies flying all around them. If you want to charge stupid amounts for your products make sure they actually are worth it.

Healthy vegetarian options and not so healthy lovely cakes on offer. Friendly staff and have an outside area where dogs are welcomed

Usual haunt for lunch when we aren't organised enough to bring it in. Selection is good, service pretty quick, friendly staff and owners are usually about. Have visited both Venus; the Capital Quarter one and Cathedral Road one. Choice of cakes is great, particularly recommend the Tiffin!

Popped in to this new branch while waiting for the Cricket to finish on 16/6/18. Very friendly service, tasty snacks and welcoming atmosphere. Would certainly recommend this as a meeting place for Sophia Gardens or even the Millenium Stadium. Great cocktail menu!!

walked past this place many times and today finally got the opportunity to go in. Nice chilled environment, a bit strange to see carpet on the floor but different. good selection of gluten free goodies at the till, the usual suspects on the menu. but if im honest I was flabagasted that they charged £3 for a green tea. I mean C,mon rip off central. suffice to say first and last visit.

You really can not fault the coffee here. The guys know exactly what they’re doing and they’ve managed to get that across the board so no matter who serves you the coffee was just as good as the last time! They’ve set the coffee bar in Cardiff very high!Menu is awesome. Full of interesting and slightly different but delicious dishes. Lots of great handmade cakes and a great ‘grab and go’ selection made fresh every day!Staff are great too!Definitely worth the visit.

Well firstly i work in the capital quarter where Kin ILK have a small stall inside so im extremely close to both venus, where to start i feel completely ripped off everytime i use this place and the absolute only reason they ever get my money is i havent got time to go into town on break and they completely 100% no this they rely on everybody not having options they charge £1.50 for a can of pepsi. The food is box standard absolutely nothing special bread hard fillings are unlikable. The reason i get annoyed because the food is not no where near worth what they charge i feel sorry for staff u can see they feel awkward when they ask for payment its a joke!!! they have a women in our building who works for them having to wear hat gloves jacket the works all day because they wont buy her a heater!! basically they need to look at there menu add more variety , stop ripping the customers off they will get a million times more business if they just treated the customer fairly !!

Pontcanna, as Riverside is now called, is an area of coffee shops, but Kin and Ilk is nearer the city and well placed, as long a you can park or walk.The staff are very pleasant and helpful. The food looks good - although we stuck to coffees, which were fine.The flooring is a disaster, it constantly looks like it needs a hoover or a mop, so not very welcoming.Then there is the unisex toilet, with a door onto the main eating floor, often left open and visible - not pleasant!Outside, if the weather is suitable, is very pleasant.

I am so pleased to find a coffee shop with such great quality food!Met with a friend on her lunch break ( it's near to her work!) ... I had the chicken, avocado salad... ( I had halloumi as an extra). I always like red onions with my salad and when it came out I noticed there weren't any, so I asked the waitress if I could have some... they only had sliced pickled red onion! Absolutely delicious! It topped the salad off! ..salads can be bland and overpriced but I thoroughly enjoyed it!!.. my friend had a sourdough toastie with gruyere and ham.. I tried some of it and that too was delicious!! ... there's a good litttle chef in that kitchen who knows their stuff! ... excellent quality!! It's becoming a regular meeting place for us now. It's always busy!.. the decor is a bit characterless but hey! You can't have it all... the food makes up for everything!! ..Thanks guys! I have a Happy tummy!

Lovely coffee, friendly staff and great food. The turkish eggs are to die for - really something that you would crave over. Relaxed vibe and a shame it wasn't busier at the weekend. Seems to be more of a place for business meetings during the week. Sourdough bread toast is delicious.

Stumbled upon this place on our early morning walk and must say the food was really nice. The joint was clean & tidy and the 2 Staff behind the counter were very courteous especially when we asked them the meaning to the NAME of their Café Bar? Told them about KITH & KIN...Overall--7/10

We live nearby so go here often. The coffee is really really good. The staff are all young and friendly. The place is very relaxing modern and cool. Only complaint is that the floor is not swept often enough and there is often debris on the floor.

We had the chorizo hash which was nice (£6.50) and a sausage a bacon sandwich at £4.50; the sausage was very herby and overdone and the streaky bacon was tasteless. No sauces offered or other confiments on the table, we had to ask.2 filter coffees at £3 each was a bit steep and the decor felt a bit corporate. First visit and last visit for us today.

We visited yesterday as I had driven past many times. The menu is different to the usual coffee place standards with artisan sandwiches (I had gruyere sandwich on sourdough - yum!). The overall atmosphere was nice and there was an exhibition displayed while we were there. All in all a nice experience. The only downside was one of our groups orders had chilli oil on their choice (after asking not too) but it was a quick swap around the table and everyone was happy.

Very good range of coffees, teas and local beers. Decor is contemporary, more cafe tables and chairs than sofas and armchairs. Service was a bit sluggish, we had to ask for the pastries we'd ordered with our coffee. The dirty cups were cleared from our table but no attempt was made to clean the previous customer's crumbs and chocolate powder. Unfortunately the choice of flooring, whilst hardwearing, is dark blue and shows up all the crumbs. Unless it hadn't been hoovered from the day before...

A nice place to meet, as it is nice and cosy. The food is of a good standard and coffee is freshly brewed. Being on the outskirts of the city centre the prices are a bit on the high side.

After seeing a lot of advertising regarding this cafe we thought we would try it out.On a Sunday at lunchtime, the floor was covered in food, tables were left dirty with used cups and plates, it wasn't busy so why it hadn't been cleaned I don't know. No sandwiches in the fridge at all. The women behind the counter looked bored. No choice at all for small children. And limited for adults. We left feeling disheartened that there was such a lack of effort. We won't be going back.

Regular (for us) coffee shop and meeting place, vibrant trendy and busy with lovely friendly staff, who can't do enough for you, really nice tea and coffee served, along with a fair choice of snacks hot and cold, with nice furniture to make you comfortable, really worth a visit, good place good guys,

Went in for a quick bite to eat and so asked as we walked in if food was still available. We were greeted with a couple of glances at a watch and then a deep sigh as the female staff member dragged her feet off to the kitchen. If we weren't so hungry and it was raining outside we would have walked straight back out. Coffee was lovely and food was tasty (although quite pricey). Such a shame.

I hired out the Kin & Ilk space for an event I was hosting to launch a magazine I had created for a university module. I had private use of the space for 2 hours and invited family and friends. Everyone said what amazing interior Kin & Ilk had, and how it was full of character. The wine was very good and there was 20% off prosecco on the Friday evening! Staff are lovely and very attentive. A big thank you to Jess who looked after us all and to Alex the owner who made sure the walls were prepared to display my artwork. I have been to Kin & Ilk capital quarter in the daytime too and the coffee and hot chocolates are excellent. A fabulous venue by evening and lovely coffee shop by day!

Lovely decor and nice menu however a lot of the refrigerated items had sold out (1pm). I recommend the egg mayo salad (very generous with the egg mayo!).

This has become a regular stop on my way to work as the coffee is lovely. Gradually working my way through the menu and I haven't had a bad tea/coffee yet.

I come here on a regular basis now due to studying only a couple of minutes down the road, their tea and coffees are gorgeous, really tasty toasties and sandwiches, and also delicious snacks! Affordable even for students, i highly recommend!

My first visit was a few weeks ago when on a course nearby. Booked a table for a group of 12 at lunch and pre ordered food. The staff were really helpful when I popped in to borrow a menu and advised us to book because of busy lunchtimes. When we arrived, the food was ready and we had excellent friendly service. The food is tasty and I think quite reasonable for what you get. I love the healthy rainbow salad!! Which I had take away today!!Well worth a visit!

A new coffee shop opened to serve the newly-built Capital Quarter in Cardiff, conveniently located just over the "Smart Bridge" and ideal for catching up with business colleagues. Fresh food and good coffee.
