KIN+ILK The Old Bank Dinas in The Vale of Glamorgan

Decided to take my wife and young daughter here for an afternoon drink. Walked in with zero welcome or greeting. Felt invisible to be honest. Ordered 2 large wines £15 and then started to look at the menu for food. The barman abruptly said ‘kitchens closed’ My wife wanted another wine and as she went to order yet again she was abruptly told kitchen closes in 3 minutes. I also noticed other visitors again not getting greeted as they entered. Glad we didn’t spend a penny more. Such a shame place is nice but the staff bring it down with the attitude. It costs nothing to be nice and polite with a warm greeting. Will never go back

Brilliant place… had the best bacon butty I have ever had in my life! Superb! Staff are great… really friendly! I think they’ve stepped up after Kin & Ilk and they were good!!

I dad a great breakfast and coffee in The Old Bank last week. The food was delicious, the coffee was spot on, and the staff were really friendly. A lovely spot with a welcoming atmosphere—highly recommend!

Went for lunch. Toasted sandwich. Came with unexpected home made coleslaw. Lovely

Great spot for some lunch, dinner, coffee or drinks. Attentive service and staff, a cosy atmosphere and contemporary vibe. Best place in the area to treat yourself to somewhere special, lots to choose from, and a great selection of drinks.

Really lovely breakfast and a tasty flat white

Went in for some breakfast after a trot around the common with the dog. I had a breakfast plate which was really delicious - sourdough toast, thickly buttered, under two poached eggs, two rashers of bacon, well done, a sausage, and some lovely spicy cannellini, kidney and borlotti beans. Had a flat white, which was a little bitter but still great. Lovely sunny spot at 9am and a lovely place to stop for a bite. And they have the best-tasting decaf I've had!

Best coffee in Dinas by far. Staff are attentive and know how to make coffee. Good WiFi and clean toilets.

The coffee is as good as the staff are grumpy.

Coffee is worth the visit - Service was good - happy chap served me and brought my coffee to the table ! The stools are uncomfortable to sit on so I moved to a chair which wasn’t much better - suggest a little bit of an upgrade of your furniture wouldn’t go a miss !! Remember the coffee is great and I enjoy taking my time to drink it ! ( in comfort would be nice )

Beautiful poached eggs, but find sour dough toast is always a little hard for my liking, It seems sour dough is the thing everywhere these days...

Lovely coffee shop in Dinas Powys. Very friendly staff. Great service. Only popped there for a drink so I can't score the food. Spent a good while sat on the seats outside watching the world go by.

Possibly the worst service in any coffee shop I've encountered in 20 years of living in the Cardiff area. Staff who seem disinterested and, with zero urgency. I regularly visit this place, hoping that occasionally the service might have improved or quickened, but it's still a 10-15 minute wait for a flat white and a latte, despite it not being particularly busy. The coffee has always been decent, but even that recently has not been up to its usual standard. And considering it's charging a premium, the entire experience frankly is bang average.

Lovely place to stop by and have a coffee, we like to sit outside with coffee and they have cute little table and chairs. Always great service and their coffee is 10/10.

Lovely afternoon with a beautifully fragrant Cortaba and an equally delicious flapjack. Friends had an Almond tart and Lemon drizzle cake with a latte and a flat white. This was my first coffee in Wales since my trip down from Lancashire and the welcome was friendly and the café was beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. The village is very pretty and I hope we are back soon. Final mention as a disabled man it was wonderful to see there wasflat access level to the pavement.

A disappointing visit! It’s a lovely place but this time, food was not so great. My daughter ordered the chorizo , potato hash with poached egg, but egg was hard so she had to return it. They did a new poached egg which was fine but then could not actually find any potato hash ( as described on the menu) in the dish. Disappointed, it was returned for a second time and she was told they would do another but it would take a while. At this stage she asked for a refund. The young female assistant was very apologetic and helpful throughout, so no criticism there. When we went to get the refund , what seemed to be the more senior male workers had a bit of attitude and no apology given. The avocado on toast was edible but very sour and the lady on the table next to said she couldn’t eat hers as the lime juice used was overpowering. I ate mine but at nearly £9 for 2 slices of sourdough and soured avocado , I felt it not worth the money. First bad meal I’ve had there, but that coupled with the gentleman’s attitude means we won’t be back.

Just popped in for coffee ☕ which was very nice...didn't eat there but the menu looked good with plenty of choice

Lovely coffee. A little pricey, but will come again

Were on a long walk and needed food. The kitchen wasn't staffed so could not prepare food. Had 3 pices of cake and 2 drinks which came to £19.80!! And one of the cakes was extremely dry. The carrot cake is to die for however. Should have just had 3 pieces of that. It was a bank holiday Monday. But perhaps it would have been better shutting for the day rather than not selling food and serving what felt like yesterday's cakes

On Saturday, I visited this establishment with my wife and her friend, we came from London and covered 170 miles🙂. We were pleasantly surprised by the good quality of coffee and delicious desserts👍 Thank you, I recommend it. ...unfortunately, they didn't take a photo...

Great food, great coffee. Staff were utterly miserable. Lady closed the front door on me (it was a cold day) and I was pushing a pram. Didn’t open them back up for me just turned and walked away despite it being clear that I was coming in. Food served with a scowl. (As mentioned quality of food and coffee was brilliant as usual). Service with a smile really would go a long way.

Nice coffee delicious food the avo on toast could have a little less chilli but otherwise highly recommend the bacon as an extra side.

Fab place. Smoothies were lovely and so was the coffee. Buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup, bacon and blueberries were lush. Friendly staff and the seats were comfy

Long time fan of kin+ilk and had high hopes for this new venture! Great location and beautifully decorated. Reasonably priced drinks that were well made. Was very surprised how quiet it was - pub over the road packed in the warm weather Food started well with an exceptional mackerel pate, but small plates were disappointing from then on: dry chicken with a poor salad (burnt citrus = a small brown grill mark on a lemon), limp grilled lettuce, "chargrilled" corn that hadn't seen a grill, and raw celeriac steaks - for the latter we did receive a free drink but this did little to address a really underwhelming meal littered with silly errors and missteps. Really hope this wasn't representative of what this new venue thinks is how they want to serve food, or what is even acceptable to serve to paying public.

Great place, great food and great staff. We’ve just had my wife’s 40th birthday party at the old bank. It was a great evening and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Looking forward to planning our next one at the old bank.

Nice coffee reasonably priced

Nice cosy cafe situated in a great spot in Dinas Powys. The cafe is clean tidy and very comfortable. The staff offer good service and the drinks were very good. Well worth a visit.

Now good coffee with Kin + Ilk @ the old bank. Bit expensive, but all good otherwise.

Beautiful food ,highly recommend

Very disappointing beer selection. Only one IPA/pale ale and it was not nice at all! Toilets also dirty with full packets of toilet roll just lying on the floors.

Lovely decor, friendly staff but dinner was really disappointing. Food was inconsistent with some tasty dishes and others bland, lacking authenticity and attention to detail. Also some overcooked and others served luke warm. Our party felt it was overpriced for the quality of the food and didn't understand the dinner "sharing menu" concept, particularly with the choices available including a burger or pasta dish.

Lovely venue, staff really friendly, food excellent, only criticism lunchtime menu limited no meat or fish, all salads or open sandwiches. But our salads were very delicious.

So disappointed. Some weeks ago my daughter booked a table for tomorrow evening,Saturday, for me,herself and her sister to celebrate an upcoming birthday. She received a call mid week telling her there was a problem with the kitchen and they could not serve hot food. They did say they could provide all drinks and charcuterie boards. Although not ideal we thought it would be OK especially with a good bottle of wine (or two). Today, I phoned on the off chance to enquire if they were able to serve cold puddings only to be told for the next 2 or 3 weeks they were serving no food at all in the evenings only at breakfast and lunch. Feeling a bit put out I asked when we would have been notified of this if I hadn't rung. The person on the phone said probably on Saturday morning. The Old Bank.... what is happening? This is simply not good enough.

Complete wild card on our evening out. Food was fantastic and so we're the drinks. Service was on point, staff are really friendly - even gave us a drink on the house as it was a birthday outing. Highly recommended. We will be returning!

Literally cannot fault anything. Sunday roast was one of the nicest roasts I’ve had in a long time - service from all staff including the owner was welcoming and friendly and the cocktails were amazing! The atmosphere of the restaurant is such a good vibe! We can’t wait to book again.

Having just about gotten over the hideous 🇬🇧flags outside 😬, we went in. Food, cocktails/mocktails, wine all absolutely delicious- Sunday lunch / birthday meal. Beef cooked to perfection, my daughter had an equally delicious veggie strudel. I think they forgot to add herb crumb to our mac’n cheese, but it was still amazing. The indoor decor is stunning, even the loo is a joy to behold! One gripe, aside from flags (sorry), I would say the background music is a bit too loud & probably unnecessary as it means people talk louder, the noise is something you notice first & can’t really ignore. Could be the acoustics? Thankfully the service & food makes it worth it, would definitely recommend for a small group, not really romantic unless you want to shout across at each other. Nonetheless it is a great addition to the Village !

We went today for Sunday lunch and both had beef. It was perfect. Staff and service were spot on and it’s a beautiful environment. Already booked to take my Mum next Sunday. Small business’ have had a rough time, I wish them all the very best as it’s well deserved.

Very, very noisy when we went (8pm on a Saturday). Wasn't the music, just the accoustics I guess. Waited an hour and 45 minutes for our food which is totally unacceptable. I'm afraid the food was just average as well mainly because some of it was cold when it eventually arrived. The two stars are principally for the lady who served us and constantly apologised for the food being so late - she was excellent considering what she was being asked to do.

Went today for Sunday lunch. The food was amazing. I had the pork which was cooked to perfection. The decor is amazing and the wine was lovely also. Will be back soon . P.s you have to try the truffled mushrooms

Went there today. On entry we were told we had the table for 90 minutes as they were busy. This is fine but it took over an hour for the food to arrive! When I say arrive they arrived without the vegetables we ordered, they took another 10 minutes to turn up - at least they were hot (the mains were not). I had the lamb but it looked like it had been reheated in the microwave as the fat had not rendered. The best part of the meal was the potatoes. There also seemed to be confusion on what was vegan and vegetarian. On the menu I think they have messed up the lables as they labelled things with cheese as vegan. This was fine with me but if you are vegan it is an issue (One of my party was vegan). As we were eating we were reminded of our 90 minute time limit and if we wanted dessert we could order before finishing so they could quickly get it to us. At this point we had decided we didn’t really want to stay. I asked for the bill and a card machine was put in front of me with an amount to pay, so no bill as they were so keen to clear the table. In short, poor service and terrible food which is a shame. I guess the good news for them is We won’t be back & not recommend the place to anyone so they won’t be busy and need to worry about table service.

Arrived today at 12 and asked for a table for 2 although plenty of tables we were told they would need to check,the girl who met us then spoke to another person and said go find them a table and walked off (rude and not a good start) once sat a lad came and said two chefs haven't turned up so we can't do food until 12.45 which was fine although by 1pm nobody came back to ask us for our order although other staff had served either side of us, we were told we could only order from lunch menu but the table opposite us were all served brunch, we constantly had to get staff attention as they all seemed huddled chatting in the far corner, couldn't have eggs Royal but could have Benedict, people next to us seemed to have drinks,food served quickly and I mean 2lots of vodka,bottle of prosecco and a few beers in the time we waited, I commented to someone I knew on the way out and was informed it was the owner, so maybe a note to management that your staff pay attention to paying first time customers as this doesn't look good and first experiences count. Won't be rushing back!!

I went here for a friend's birthday, the staff were friendly but not very efficient with service. We waited 25 minutes for our drinks and the owner of the establishment seemed more concerned with other tables (friends) being served first. When the food arrived it looked great, but no seasoning and the mac and cheese was bland and overcooked. With paying 6 pounds for a side of Asparagus you would expect it to be cooked well, unfortunately it was soggy and the tips were missing. I had high hopes for this place, unfortunately massively let down.

Beautiful Decor love the 20s theme. Plenty of space to sit comfortably at tables without feeling squashed in. We went breakfast time just before 11am and were lucky to get a table. It is waiter service. Staff were so friendly. Pancakes were lush and will be ordering again. 😋Looking forward to trying the cocktail bar when not pregnant. Thanks again 👍🏻

First visit to Old Bank last night. Lovely food, and atmosphere buzzing - even at 630pm! Decor is stunning. Cant wait for next visit. Small main course options, but assuming they will change this, monthly perhaps? Only moan is that maybe some tables a bit close together, if you are 2 diners next to a larger table! But its amazing what they have done in such a small space. Well done!

Wow! Start to finish, absolutely fantastic. Super friendly team who catered to all of our needs, excellent food & a fabulous cocktail menu (we tried to make our way through!). Worth every penny & will definitely be returning.
