Food more than first class. "staff" friendly, and smiling. Can't fault it!

We visited, more as a trip down memory lane and came away having fully enjoyed the event. Catering & hospitality now has more coverage than it ever used to, with all the stars on TV, you have to remember they all started somewhere and Kings is as good a place as any. The food was very, very good, well presented, tasty and a nice menu to suit all tastes. Naturally the front of house is where all the attention is and on the whole is was very good, bearing mind these students are learning. It's a shame it's such a secret, what with funding and lack of social media coverage, it easily goes under the radar. That said it is well worth a visit, not only to try good food but to help youngsters gain experience and inspire them to go onto great things.

We had a lovely relaxing meal. The food was delicious, well cooked and presented, the service was excellent especially as for most they are in their first year. We would definitely recommend this restaurant, it is great to be able to support our local students, all of who appreciate being able to practice their skills on the general public.

This is a great place to come. It is a training event for students. I've been a few times and every time they have pulled out all the stops. The food is excellent, as is the service. One of the best restaurants around. Highly recommended

First time visit, for a Christmas dinner. I'll start out by saying this is a training restaurant, where students are learning the craft of Hospitality. So perfection should not be expected. It's a large open Hall with a small bar at the entrance. Plenty of space between tables and they were all set out nicely. All the staff from waiters to Maitre D were students learning their roles, but performed very well. Sufficiently attentive whilst still learning. The preselected menu was traditional but very well presented, particularly the desert courses. The quality was very good. Although we couldn't see the kitchen and how they were working, they managed quite well in the challenging task of delivering a single sitting of nearly 50 covers. Overall good value for money, and a chance to help education whilst eating well. Definitely will go again to one of their themed dinners.

First time at the restaurant and will definitely going again. My colleague and I selected different meals and we both enjoyed them thoroughly. I had duck salad to start, followed by chilli beef and finished off with apple strudel and with an excellent bottle of red wine. Food was excellent and the service first class and the price very reasonable. Luke attended our table and gave us great service. Well done to all involved.

Never been there but we will go there I think its fab

My husband & I have just returned home after treating my elderly relatives to Afternoon Tea. It was their first visit. I was a little disappointed with the turnout compared with other times we have visited. Only ten people were there. It was possibly because of the new times, rather than 3pm it was 1pm. This time suited us much better but it was possibly too early for others. The food was very good & plentiful, and the students very pleasant & helpful as always. I am taking my relatives again next month. I'm also pleased that there are more dates for Afternoon Tea than previously. Every Friday. In the past I have tried to book but have been told it's full up. The price has only gone up by £1 making it a very reasonable £16 pp. THANKYOU to all the students.

Went to Final Hurrah Dinner which was the last event in the college restaurant calendar. The college joined up with The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne to host the event. The food was amazing and the service was 5 star! Such a fabulous way to give the students real life experience.

We visit this restaurant frequently and have never been disappointed by the ambience, food or the service. On the last occasion one member of our party became ill. I can't praise the staff enough for the cool calm and collected way they dealt with this situation, especially as they are staff in training . They made us feel very reassured and in safe hands and they even followed up with a home call to find out how this member of our party was. I have no hesitation in recommending this place

Due to eye catching 1/2 page advert promoting the above site-in Feb 2022 issue of Bournefree local free paper issued monthly we decided to go for lunch. Very professional booking/information sent back promptly-and we were very impressed. Chose the 3 courses each with 3 choices.Even the rolls were freshly baked and hot when served-rare treat. The food was excellent and served on hot plates well served by students on the catering course.Beforehand one could have a drink in comfortable bar at reasonable prices as well as our lunch.Best to book up to be fair to the College.Finished off with excellent choices of coffee. Could have opted for 2 courses but wanted to sample it all!! Open during term times midweek-and is a la carte basis. Wednesdays is set 2 or 3 courses. Also open from 0830-1200 for coffee/snacks-in bar area. Do themed evening meals several times a year-plus xmas lunches. DO go and support this College and its students. All set in very pleasant dining room .

We have just been as a group for a lunch, it was excellent. Very imaginative menu, great food well prepared, cooked and served by the college students. A really enjoyable meal, reasonably priced great work.

Out of all the Christmas lunches we have eaten this season the one at Kings restaurant on Wednesday 8th of December was the most enjoyable. The huge number of customers must have been a daunting challenge to staff and students alike and the two of us us were full of admiration for the impeccably professional way the lunch service was accomplished - comparable to many a high end professional restaurant. Whenever we visit Eastbourne we are always very happy to lunch at Kings restaurant and we always find the food very tasty and the service attentive but not obtrusive. On this occasion it was not just the attentin to detail, the ambiance, the very tasty food and the beautiful festive set up that that stood out. Above all else it was the sheer smoothness of the whole operation that was most impressive. And of course, last but not least, the selection of cheeses - all of them local and all of them super addictive! Thank you all very much and we look forward to many more enjoyable experiences at Kings in 2022.

What a great experience to eat a Christmas lunch here today. A pleasant dining room, with a beautiful wooden vaulted ceiled, well laid tables, sparkling glassware and spotless cutlery set the scene. Food was well presented throughout. Our pear and burrata starters well executed, the soup delicious. Our mains of braised beef en croute accompanied by perfectly cooked veg. The meal rounded off by a Sussex cheese boards of cheeses i optimal condition and served at a perfect temperature. The accompanying oat biscuits a delight, and the piccalilli was so good we simply had to buy some jars to take home. The team and students at King's Restaurant are reaching excellent standards and we are grateful to join them on their journey to careers in this industry. Can't wait to return!

An excellent Christmas lunch today at Kings Restaurant, which was beautifully decorated. The waiting and bar staff were attentive . The food was delicious, especially the cheese board with local Sussex cheeses. What a treat. Thank you to those front of house and in the kitchen. Recommended.

Went for Afternoon Tea today, didn't know what to expect. Well it was LOVELY, plenty of sandwiches & cakes and very reasonably priced. We were even given extra to take home for free!! I would have happily paid for them! The staff are so lovely too, really helpful & caring. I can't praise it all highly enough. WELL DONE TO EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK..

We have been several times to the college for lunch. I think it is a shame more people do not go to taste the delights the students cook and serve. Our waiter was very attentative and made sure we were comfortable and well looked after. The food really is of a high standard paying a fraction of a price normally found in high class restaurants.keep up the good work,I am sure some of you will go on to earn Michelin stars one day. Kings Restaurant is set up for college students to practice the art of cooking and general hospitality service, in all the standard is pretty good, 3 course meal from a good varied menu plus tea or coffee £13. Alcohol is available from the bar if required.

Myself and my Husband went to Kings Restaurant 23 years ago on one of our first dates! It was a memorable evening. Then last week we decided to return and take two friends with us for lunch, well even with a 23 year gap it did not disappoint!! Food was faultless, absolutely beautiful, staff and students were excellent, friendly and attentive it was a truly wonderful lunch. Thank you to Oliver and all his Students for a wonderful afternoon. Celebrated my daughter's new job there, this week, at their English theme diner.Can't fault the set menu, well balanced and beautifully cooked. Had a caramalised apple on top a a slice of roast pork which was the best I had tasted in decades.We so need to encourage young people to join this industry which has been badly affected by the lockdowns. In a nutshell, you are in for a treat whilst unabling young people to gain superb skills. Lool it up back in September when they re-open, we certainly will be coming back. Thank you!

Mi otra sobrina es estudiante en la universidad y se está preparando para ser chef.Durante muchos años he dicho que me gustaría ir, pero nunca lo hice. . . Bien. . . . . Lamento no haber estado nunca antes porque, sinceramente, no puedo alabarlo lo suficiente. El servicio fue excepcional, sentí pena por los estudiantes que nos atendían, ya que una vez que mi hermana y yo tomamos una copa de vino de más, nos volvimos un poco ruidosos (pero no ofensivos). . . . ! ! No me puedo quejar de la comida. . . Probablemente nos quedamos más tiempo de nuestra bienvenida, pero nunca nos sentimos presionados para irnos. Felicitaciones Kings College, te mereces 10/10. . gracias por una comida maravillosa.

Enhorabuena a East Sussex College que abrió el restaurante King's y lo convirtió en un lugar seguro para Covid. Las medidas que ha tomado nos hicieron sentir seguros y aún así poder disfrutar de un delicioso almuerzo. Había mucho espacio, desinfectante y personal con máscaras, lo que nos dio la confianza de que la universidad se está tomando en serio la seguridad de sus huéspedes y, a pesar de esto, había un buen ambiente en el restaurante. El servicio fue excelente y la comida estaba buenísima, además de tener una excelente relación calidad-precio. Gracias por todo su arduo trabajo para que esto suceda. Espero volver a visitarlo.

Hemos estado muchas veces y siempre tuvimos muy buen servicio y excelente comida. Fuimos de nuevo anoche con nuestro Wine Club y toda la comida fue excelente y con un estándar muy alto. La carne de venado fue cocinada a la perfección y toda la comida fue presentada profesionalmente. Siendo celíaco, estaba muy agradecido por la atención al detalle con respecto a los alimentos sin gluten.

Comemos aquí una vez al año para que nuestros residentes se reúnan en Año Nuevo. Este año, 20 de nosotros reservamos para el almuerzo; teniendo en cuenta que este fue su primer día real 'de vuelta en el arnés' después de las vacaciones de Navidad / Año Nuevo. El menú es bueno con una selección de tres entrantes / platos principales / postres para 13 o 15. La organización necesaria para acomodar a 20 comensales simultáneamente es excelente; y se las arreglaron bien. La comida era muy buena, el servicio era bueno, qué más necesito decir. Bien hecho todo.

I have visited Kings Restaurant a few times over the past 2 years, yet again it didn't disappoint. The students are always attentive and professional, the food perfectly cook and served and the atmosphere is lovely. The restaurant is a credit to the hard working students and their tutors. I'll be back soon!

We went to the Red Carpet Night dinner last week - it was amazing and such good value. Excellent service and delicious food, all cooked and served very professionally by the students. We've lived in Eastbourne for many years, and this was our first visit - we now know what we have been missing out on! Already booked for June - can't wait!!Thank you also to the lecturers - going a great job!!

Wanted to take mother in law to some where new. Once again the service was out standing. We were looked after extremely well by a year one student named Chelsea. This young lady did very well and is a credit to all of the team.

A delicious lunch included fabulous pea and mint soup, delicious cod with a parmesan crust, excellent steak pudding. All served by some very capable students in training. Lovely tarte tartin to finish. Great value for money.

After having a fantastic dinner and evening here at Christmas, when I heard of the Charity Afternoon Tea event, I knew I had to come! Upon arrival, I was pleased to see that so many people had booked in for the afternoon and after speaking with a couple of other attendees, whilst waiting to be formally seated, I found that they too had been recommended to the restaurant.The service was impeccable and the food and drink were both delicious and abundant. Served on vintage china was also a lovely touch too!Attentive staff and students, ensured we were happy and well stocked with yummy delights all afternoon! Would highly recommend Kings Restaurant to anyone visiting Eastbourne and will definitely be returning for future lunches and another Charity Afternoon Tea event in May!

I went for lunch at King's Restaurant last Wednesday 6th March with two colleagues and my experience was excellent.

Fantastic Christmas dinner cooked and served by students under the watchful eye of excellent teachers. The food was amazing and the service very professional, would highly recommend

I have visited this restaurant, for lunch, several times with friends and family and it has never failed to please. The food has consistently been of exceptional quality, well presented and gracefully delivered to the table by young students, (our waiters for our visit last week were Dan and William) who are a credit to their mentors. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves good food and/or appreciates that everyone has to start somewhere, and as a learning environment for budding members of the hospitality industry I can’t think of a better place to ‘fine-dine’ at fantastic value for money.

Students produced a fantastic evening. The service was faultless, the food was presented in a way that you would expect from a 5* restaurant. Every student made that evening happen and they should be proud of them selves.

It was wonderful to be welcomed professionally and made to feel valued by the attentive students. The choice of dishes meant that all tastes were catered for, and the standard was first rate. Another reviewer mentions the inclusion of fresh, properly cooked vegetables, and I can only agree that this was a pleasant surprise element since a decent portion of fresh vegetables is becoming, it seems, increasingly scarce in commercial restaurants. This is an inexpensive meal and the drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, are also inexpensive. In short, this is value-for-money very fine dining and a very enjoyable experience.

Being on the mailing list of this restaurant I was very pleased to have received their lunch winter menu. It was so tempting that husband and I decided to book a train day trip from London so that we could visit this gem of a restaurant again. On a very windy and rainy day the restaurant proved to be an oasis of warmth and calm and the food and service were even better than we anticipated. The duck breast salad and seafood risotto could have graced many an establishment in London. The mains were not only very tasty but were also accompanied by a selection of perfectly cooked vegetables - something that, unfortunately, these days one does not encounter very often. The portions were well judged (all our plates went back empty!) and we still had room for the pudding. I opted for the chocolate & black cherry fondant and it was the best I have ever tasted and I have tasted quite a few! Husband, as always, chose the cheese and judged it to be a very good selection. We would like to thank all the staff and students for giving us such superb lunch experience and we look forward to another visit.

As a family we attended one of the Christmas evening meals over the festive 2018 period, after hearing great things from family and friends. It did not disappoint!

I attended a dinner service with my father that is hosted by the students in and out of the kitchen.

Lunch at the Kings restaurant is the best value in town. The waiting staff are attentive and knowledgeable and the restaurant itself is very comfortable with space so your not too close to fellow diners.

It is a number of years since we visited the Kings Restaurant at East Sussex College. Finally, this week we had the chance to revisit. I’m not sure if the telephone was answered by a student or a member of staff, but the call was answered very professionally and offered clear information of opening hours.

Although the waiters and kitchen workers are students, they are well supervised and reach a very high standard of service and food. The food is well cooked and presented. I gather that it is the same menu for the term and although a limited choice there should be something to please everyone. The menu can be down loaded from the website. You could easily pay 3 or 4 times the price in a commercial restaurant. Obviously the surroundings are utilitarian rather than plush.

The service was excellent from arrival right through the meal and on leaving. The food was tasty and very well prepared with great descriptions in the menu. The restaurant itself was well laid out and easy to access. Would definitely come again

16 of us come here for our annual lunch; this year, the food was first class, the attentive service was equally good. This is a Catering College and the restaurant staff, under expert supervision of catering lecturers, performed really well. The attention to detail and synchronicity of service was excellent. the young men and women were a credit to the college. Well done all. For a similar service and quality of food anywhere else, you'd pay 3 or 4 times the price.

We visited as a family party for a pre Christmas meal.

A day trip to Eastbourne to celebrate our 50 wedding anniversary included a pre-booked lunch at Sussex Down College restaurant. We have seen the very positive reviews but the experience still exceeded our expectations! The bar area was very conducive to pre - lunch drinks, the dinning room itself was bright and airy with beautifully set tables and very comfortable chairs. But it was the food and the service that were the real stars of the show. We are both hearty eaters and found all the dishes not only plentiful but exceptionally tasty (without being over-salted as is often the case!) and very well presented. The students were attentive, polite and already with an air of quiet professionalism about them. So thank you all very much for making our day special and we sincerely hope to visit the Kings Restaurant in the next academic year.

Outstanding as always, the service was fantastic, the food delicious, just the right portion sizes and beautifully presented. I've never had a bad meal here and for the price it just can't be beat. Highly recommend for any occasion 👍👍👍

On arrival I ordered a diet coke they had run out "owing to a party the previous night". Only had soda water as an alternative! Ordered the chicken for my main course. After everyone else had been served they informed me they had run out of chicken. My second choice was salmon - they had run out, but they did have scampi or the vegetarian alternative. At that point I should have run out myself but stayed out of respect for the other 15 in the group. When the scampi arrived it was cold, served with a sprig of cold broccoli and a 1/4 of a baked potato. I only ate the potato and left the rest. For desert I had the cheese board as I was so hungry! I am concerned for the students who are clearly not being taught to the required professional standard.

For an educational establishment, this is a really good place to eat; we (12) ate here today, (as we have done in the past) and the food is excellent; the service first class. These young people are learning their trade in all catering areas, kitchen, front-of-house, food and wine waitering and they perform well. the food is well cooked, well presented and the level of attention to detail, and to the customers is excellent. Well done everyone.

Christmas Lunch for 13 ladies. Excellent food plenty of it, students very willing and helpful. Good atmosphere great value for money. Went last year and this year didn't disappoint.

Today I attended an afternoon tea here with a large group of 18 ladies. The service was very good and they looked after us very well. The sandwiches were fresh and tasty and plentiful, the cakes were gorgeous and thoroughly enjoyable. Some of us took home a doggy bag! One point though, please make stronger tea! Great afternoon. Good value for money.

This was a Valentines Day Special, this place opens on occasion and the food, service, attention to detail, the willingness of the staff and management is truly excellent. This restaurant is part of Sussex Downs College and is staffed by students and managers. their genuine care and concern for your welfare, the presentation of the food is stunning. The cost is small by comparison to almost all other restaurants. Well done to all.
