King's Head Inn in Wiltshire

Glum staff, particularly one women... totally lacking any manners. The place could do with a total refurbishment. Is Salisbury not a happy place?

Possible the most disappointing fish and chips I’ve ever had. Both my wife and ordered it and when it arrived it was almost thrown at us and the staff member ran off. It was a case of hunt for the fish amongst the batter. Sent email of complaint and received a standard response. We’ve had breakfast here in the past which we enjoyed and that’s why it’s three stars and not one.

don't know where to start really, despite being almost empty food took 30 mins, cask beer completely flat that was not first choice as online menu not kept up to date, coffee machine left unfilled, dirty tables everywhere left uncleaned. I like Wetherspoons but this was very poor experience all round

Cheap drinks but probably the worst Wetherspoons we know. Very unkempt, despite a refurb a few years ago. Food plates left uncollected for a long time and tables not cleaned regularly. Always have to queue a long time for a drink and also wait a long time if ordering on the app. Staff all seem sullen and unhappy. Suits us for that quick cheap drink and the occasional snack.

Dropped my car off for its MOT, then walked in to the city & went in to the restaurant for my breakfast. I had a full English & unlimited coffee, all for £9. Great VFM. The food was excellent, as was the service. Happy to recommend.

Be careful as you can walk past it, but it's a lovely restaurant with some nice views from upstairs. A few different ales on the pump that were nice. But the food was good and hot and well served. by friendly staff. Seemed to have a lot of tables upstairs and downstairs but it was a Sunday.

We bought 50 people to a reunion at this place. Tables were filthy everything about the place was filthy . Glasses left on tables which were full of empty glasses all night noone cleared or cleaned tables. The carpet where we were sat we had to ask someone to clean the the amount of food that was on the floor. Whilst sat outside in the garden waiting on drinks order the staff had got one of the doormen to come to our table and question us about being rude and swearing at staff which never happened . We were sat outside !!! Waiting on drinks!!! Didn’t even speak to staff as drinks were ordered off the app and took 45 minutes to arrive and the pub wasn’t busy at this time !!!! Not made to feel welcome even though the group had phoned ahead to say we were coming. Would not recommend to anyone dirty , filthy place

Always order on the app, did tonight and went to payment and noticed it was showing a lot cheaper. Cancelled it and looked into history showing nothing. Went to bar to speak to a young guy about it and told they are out of stock of the food, this was not showing on the app. Asked if I could speak to the manager who Is completely tied up serving at the bar. Told he would come to speak to me. Then had to reorder and it is now 45 minutes later and the manager is still in the bar. As a manager how on earth does he know what is going on in the rest of the business. Really poor service. So basically paid twice for something. Even second time it was allowing me to order the same item which apparently was out of stock.

Average wetherspoons situated conveniently close to salisbury cathedral. A very nice old building with restaurant and hotel all in one. Good outdoor seating area beside the waters edge. Great on a sunny day as it was nice and cool inside. Food typical wetherspoons fayre.

Arrived and sat outside with my sister, her dog and her new born baby. Ordered drinks and was just about to order food when a scruffy server abruptly came and asked us to finish our drinks and leave as they don’t allow dogs. There was no indication of this when arriving as there are dogs walking through and near the outside garden area. There’s an enclosed area with a small black sign that says only service dogs are allowed and is not obvious at all. Really glad we didn’t order food as that would have been really annoying. If you have a dog don’t go here.

great location.. hotels nice and clean. market nearby. with many old places to visit incuding stone henge. nice place to chill for couple days. near hotel is footpath that takes you across lakes and takes you to very old pub with water fall, worth the 15 min trip

Hotel in need of refurb. TV nor working well, toilet not flushing well, shower temp hard to regulate, no console for toiletries in disabled bathroom, a/c unit dripping water, poor lighting in a dark room which would be an easy fix, disabled toilet in pub dirty, options for parking would be appreciated. Male receptionist usually absent or we would have mentioned our concerns on location. What a shame, we usually love Wetherspoons.

Went here today having had fab service last weekend. Food was forever. We swapped tables and checked with staff that we ok and told yes. When drink came asked for ice and staff member just banged it on table without a word. 30 mins sfter ordering enquired about food. Apparently went to original table so they bought it back and was stone cold. They said this time they would cook it from fresh!!! Bit worrying that this is not the norm!! After 10 mins I asked for a refund and manageress told me no as my partner was rude to her!!! I could not believe this - having walked away due to her appalling and stroppy attitude my partner went back and insisted on a refund at which point we were told to leave with no refund. At this point the manager said she had tried to apologise to me for being rude but she did not and claimed she would not refund as the food was almost ready!! As management are staff not trained to defuse situations. My partner was not rude just fed up and annoyed!!! Will NEVER darken doors of a Wetherspoon again! Tried to call them and you have to email!

My daughter and I came here for Breakfast . I have non visible health issues and Becky (lovely auburn hair and amazing Ink -tattoos)served me she was outstanding. Her customer service was fabulous. This company is so lucky to have her

Lovely clean modern room. Beautiful large towel and very nice bathroom. The shower head and cubicle needed a good scrub but other than that plenty of hot water. Excellent location, literally a few minutes walk to the train station, cathedral and town centre. Great price too. I would have no hesitation in staying here again.

Ordered the breakfast with a Tea. Went to use the Tea Machine and sat back at my table. 20 minutes later I was approached by a waitress who informed me that the manager saw an empty table so decided that I was no longer in the restaurant so didn't bother to bring me food. She then went to the kitchen and served me with a cold breakfast that had been sat on the counter for 20mins. Absolute shambles!

After a disappointing visit to a Weatherspoons 8 miles away from Salisbury, the Kings Head Inn was a welcome contrast. Good quick friendly service and food excellent value.

the food was Luke warm and badly cooked by someone who had no pride in their work nor any skill, certainly couldn’t be called a chef. They only had one portion of fish and chips, which I had and my partner then ordered gammon and eggs. The egg yolk was rock hard, the gammon was tough and the chips were luke warm. My fish was okay but over cooked, the peas and chips were barely warm. We complained and new portions of nice hot chips were delivered to our table. We were tired and hungry after a 5 hour journey so just put up with the food. No refund was offered for the poor food. I have had lots of meals in Weatherspoons pubs and it has only been excellent value for money and well cooked. This in does not live up to their normal high standards. The first gin and tonics were also disappointing ..tonic had not been chilled and there was very little ice. It took a while to get served..obviously very short staffed. Weatherspoons pubs are usually busy but this was relatively empty...perhaps the above is why. The whole place could do with a refurb..it has seen better days.

Went in for an evening meal; one of our party has a variety of food allergies. Both the manager and chef visited the table to ensure that our food requirements were understood. This was appreciated, and we enjoyed a lovely meal.

We were drawn in by the beauty of the outside of the building and its location. I must admit the price of the drinks also contributed.Inside is much like any other Wetherspoons - sticky floored and in need of a good clean. Yes the booze is cheap but wine on tap is a step too far even for me! You get what you pay for.

My friend and I are regulars at this pub when visiting the city. It is in a good location, has a nice outside seating area and like a lot of Wetherspoons pubs, is in a historic building. We have eaten there a couple of times before with no problems but on our latest visit I was served a Vegetarian Lasagne which was cold in the middle! It was returned and another properly cooked dish delivered in a timely manner. To their credit, their mistake was dealt with swiftly, however how a professional kitchen manages to deliver food which has not been cooked properly beggars belief. I will continue to visit for drinks but might not have food next time!

An excellent Wetherspoons in central Salisbury adjacent to a river. Beautiful inside and out with gallery seating area upstairs with outdoor tables and chairs during good weather. Here is yet another Wetherspoons which puts Yeovil (the worst in the UK) to shame.

Normally big fans of the Wetherspoons generally and this one too. However this time, the tables hadn't been cleared or wiped and there were so many flies we had to move. The toilets were also very dirty and some doors had no locks and others with broken locks. Generally there was a feeling of being a rudderless ship with TLC needed everywhere. Whoever the manager is, they need to sort it out.

This not one of my favorite places,But that said, they do a truly wonderful Full English breakfast with drink, with the hot drinks you can refill as often as you want.It is at the cheaper end of the scale as far as price goes,

Tuesday Steak Nights are a Wetherspoons institution, and I’m a fan. I’ve had excellent experiences elsewhere.Not quite the same here. On our first visit there was no steak. On a steak night! I found out after queueing for about 10 minutes. Then another 10-minute queue to order something else. This wasn’t helped by the general state of the place, which was appalling: rubbish strewn all over the floor and not a table cleared and clean. My wife made the mistake of visiting the toilets. I’ll say no more.As I said, I'm a fan so some weeks later I tried again (my wife could not be tempted). Normal service had been resumed, I'm glad to say. I enjoyed my steak and the place was in much better order. Please keep up the good work.

This large, picturesque establishment sits on the bank of the Avon in the city center, an easy walk from the train station. It has become part of the Wetherspoon group and they’ve done a very nice job of creating comfortable, modern rooms in a rambling, ancient building. The hallways are a maze of stairways and corridors but when I found my room, it was large and well done. I was pleasantly surprised to find air conditioning on a hot day. Furnishings were nothing fancy but serviceable and comfortable. Good sized bathroom with a large tub. The site is just a short walk from the cathedral and very much in the middle of the old city. I did not try the very large pub that is part of the establishment. Staff was professional and polite, though not very informative about Salisbury. And the price was a real value, given the quality of the room. A very good choice in Salisbury.

We go to a lot of Wetherspoons - we live near the Ramsgate Wetherspoons - and so thought we knew what to expect.The pub was under staffed and when I asked a member of staff about this he replied that they are always under staffed.My fish and chips were not as nice as usual Wetherspoons food - there was not much fish, chips not particularly nice.The pub was busy and we sat at a table with leftover glasses on. It took a long time for them to be cleared and the table was never cleaned.It was disappointing as we nearly always enjoy our Wetherspoons visits.This one is letting the brand down!

I had very low expectations when the six of us arranged to eat at The Kings Head Inn. I had a steak for a bargain price including a drink. The steak was great tasting and cooked perfectly. The restaurant itself is also better than many Wetherspoons.

Wetherspoons food is always good value.We had breakfast there and it was perfectly cooked and reasonably priced.We also took advantage of Curry and Steak nights which are always a great deal.We sat upstairs as it wasn't so busy.A lovely atmosphere with a couple of small parties of students sitting,chatting and having a nice night out.

After visiting this establishment whilst on holiday with my husband I was disgusted at the quality of the food.After ordering him a large breakfast with side of black pudding and side of tomato's it came without the hash browns as advertised on there menu .I informed a member of staff who said she would bring them over.This was the least of my worries,as he started to consume the breakfast it was undercooked,cold and extremely unsatisfactory which then resulted in only eating a third of the breakfast.Later that day he became very hot,dizzy and nauseous which later resulted in vomiting .He had not consumed anything else in 24 hours previous so this had to be the cause which not only made him feel unwell but resulted in us loosing a day of our holiday.We use Weatherspoons alot especially when on holiday but this has put us of using there establishments again

This is my regular stop for coffee, or brunch, or lunch, and to meet with friends. The food is excellent value for money, the staff are friendly, cheerful, and helpful when necessary.

Drinks arrived long after meals. Burgers were dry but no chance to ask for mayo an and mustard. Hot chocolate is just a chocolate block on a stick, make your own if you can figure it out. Never again, any Wetherspoons

Error made in ordering and they made a real fuss, was happy to pay difference but it was made much more complicated than need be . when they couldn’t provide avocado in the avocado salad we didn’t get any compensation!! We are sorry for our error sorry they weren’t so sorry for theirs. Food we got was lovely and staff were polite.

We visited this pub on a day trip to the town, it was a nice sunny spring day and the place was reasonably busy. This was only a lunch time stop. My wife ordered a baked potatoe which to be fair she enjoyed but I ordered a Ultimate burger and chips. It took ages to arrive and when it did my meal was cold, it was not even warm. I returned the meal to staff who really didnt seemed bothered, they offered another with atleast a 20 min delay. My wife was eating her meal before it got cold. Suffice to say I took a refund and we left. This was not good service and what is it with pubs these days, hot food needs to be served HOT, check it before serving and if you cant served hot food close and open a salad bar! I was very surprised that they said it would take another 20 mins atleast to re do the meal, surley they could prioritise under the circumstances. Very poor service indeed.

This is a busy pub and there was quite a queue at the bar when we arrived but the line server just got on with the job in hand in a pleasant way. Fast efficient and decent enough food. All packaged in a pretty building.

Ordered Fish, Chips & Mushy Peas for myself and my wife. When it arrived the waiter apologised for one piece of fish as it had curled into an almost perfect circle, however, that was the least of the problems. As we started to eat, it was more a case of demolishing a hardened casing of concrete grade batter and eventually finding scraps of dubious pieces of fish entombed inside. Nobody asked us "how was the meal" as you have come to expect these days, a poor reflection on Wetherspoons. An experience I will not risk repeating. Advice? Don't use Wetherspoons in Salisbury!

Ordered 5 breakfasts and the first two came out only just warm so the staff took it back and returned with another only just warm one. We was offered another one but had given up hope by then.

Visited this place on a fairly busy Sunday afternoon for lunch, I ordered steak and chips with a side onion rings & sauce. I ordered my steak rare and was delivered with a very tough like leather and overdone steak with cremated onion rings. I know it’s a weatherspoons and I do not expect gourmet meals but I do expect a minimum of the steak to be cooked right. Also, the coffee machines were all flashing orange and a lady pointed it out to a man behind the bar who shouted across that he doesn’t have magic hands and is currently pouring drinks so she will have to wait, it was just what he said but the tone in which he said that was very rude.

Having stayed in a Wetherspoons hotel before we were expecting it to be of a good standard but we were very disappointed we had booked a double room through booking. com and when we arrived the room was so small it felt claustrophobic we complained straight away and were given a slightly bigger king room , this room was very dark and dated there were stains up the wall where a drink had been spilt and not cleaned of in the tiny bathroom the paint on the ceiling was peeling and you could not sit squarely on the toilet as there was nowhere to put your legs .Reading other reviews on trip advisor I just wonder if they have 2 different types of rooms and if you don't book directly with them you get put in one of older style rooms.

Had a meal as expected in wetherspoons as were going to city hall the meal came quick. We had ham egg cup and teryaki noodles tasted fine. Worth the price of 2 for tenner. It is central to the city for travellers and locals.

A typical Wetherspoons until I went into the gent’s toilet. One of the toilet pans was covered in excrement - it looked as though someone’s bowels had exploded. Other toilets were broken and the floor was in need of a good clean. It was still like this an hour later despite staff supposedly having checked them. Tim Martin needs to pay this pub a visit!

We visited around 2.30pm as the lunch rush was finishing. It was very busy so many tables hadn’t been cleared. However we found a seat and had no problem ordering. There was a good selection of real ales to choose from. Our meal arrived quickly and was good value - two burgers and chips and two pints was under £15. The toilets were upstairs as usual and were clean and tidy.

Had two delicious curry club meals.It took five minutes from app order to drinks served and ten minutes for food. Lovely meal and very pleasant staff . Well done Spoons staff

Queued for ages at the bar, made my order told there was no fish and chips. Then the server disappeared and came back and said they was fish and chips. Ordered that and scampi. Went to order the beer but of the 7 pumps showing 4 were apparently not on although there was nothing to indicate this. The beers that were on were all the Wetherspoons regulars i.e. Ruddle & Greene King. When the food arrived both the fish and the scampi were of very poor quality, overcooked and greasy. Probably the worst we have had in years. Chips were just passable as was the beer.

Absolutely disgusting waited 15 minutes at the bar to be served there was only 4 people at the bar waiting to be served it was dead we only popped in for a quick social drink after training there was 5 members of staff wandering round like lost sheep
