Kings Head Dullingham in East Cambridgeshire

Decided to visit for Sunday lunch following a friends recommendation we weren't disappointed. The bread basket that arrived first was so delicous. The roast beef was fabulous. Nice and pink and plenty of it. Our son had the pork and he said it was lovely and jucy. Proper home made huge yorksires and a good veg selection. My son was very happy that the gravy came in a jug as he isn't a huge gravy fan. He really liked the mushroom puree. Deserts were really lovely and presentation was excellent. Absolutely no complaints and we will definitely be back. Not the cheapest lunch but worth every penny.

On the way to Newmarket you will find this on the hill. Vey high standards and good staff. Great food and drinks menu too.

Food is good and so is the service , the reason of not giving 5 stars is because the deco is very plain and doesn’t have that traditional pub feel . But will definitely be back

We visited with friends who live locally. What a treat. Great menu choice, friendly, knowledgeable staff, great atmosphere and wonderful food.

We have been to the King's Head in Dullingham twice now for a family gathering. As we have family living in both Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, we booked the King's Head in Dullingham as it's somewhere in between. We are so glad that we did as the food is superb and the special touches like fudge with the tea and coffee makes this place memorable. We came back today for a celebration and the food was once again excellent and cooked perfectly. Despite the fantastic building and sophisticated good, it's also very friendly and somewhere that you feel welcome with children. If you are looking for a cheap Sunday dinner then this isn't the right place for you but if you wasn't excellent quality food and don't mind paying for it then you won't be disappointed. We will definitely be back for another family meal.

The kings Head is luckily only down the road from where we live. The Food and service is always to the very highest standards. They started to do takeaway during lockdown and kept it going afterwards, the kings head grill has been a great weekly treat for us, the food as always is great and very well priced. We would like to thank you guys for all your hard work, The Churros last night where amazing! Darrell and Rebecca.

Another wonderful Sunday lunch at the Kings Head. The ‘can do’ attitude of Paul and all of the staff is always a pleasure to experience. We sat outside in glorious sunshine and enjoyed the most delicious food and wine - am never disappointed. So grateful to have this restaurant on our doorstep and their fantastic take away from their Kings Head Pizza And Grill is so convenient too. Highly recommended!

Great menu, super service and amazing food both in presentation and taste. The front of house was impressive and explained the renovation process that the restaurant had been through and how he found the amazing head chef. Can't recommend highly enough!

Booked for Sunday lunch arrived as planned and greater warmly. Drinks were bought and we were shown to our table, the restaurant was pleasant and staff were extremely attentive. We ordered traditional roasts homemade bread was bought to us to nibble whilst we waited it was absolutely delicious. Our meals arrived vegetables came separately all very well prepared and presented and enjoyed by us both. Honestly the food, surroundings & service were good but we wouldn't go back as just too pricey at £50 for 2 Sunday roasts and a 2 drinks.

So lucky to have this restaurant close to home. Blown away by the dessert I’ve just had -Trio of white chocolate mousse, aerated, caramelised, pea gel and macaroon! Almost too beautifully presented to eat but so delicious, highly recommend. Paul and all his staff are always so welcoming and accommodating.

Been here a five times the past six months and the food and service all five times was excellent, I’ve never felt rushed to leave my table. Would highly recommend.

We popped into the Kings Head before heading to see Pete Tong at Newmarket nights. The food was delicious and so were the drinks! The staff were very friendly and attentive. This place is not cheap, but the food is a mouth watering.

From the outside, this is unassuming, but get inside and place your order you won’t be disappointed. Every course was cooked to perfection simply wonderful, and worth it. This is surprisingly busy place, it did get a little warm inside, but don’t let that detract from the food and service

I don't eat much red meat but occasionally it's just what I want. On Saturday night I chose a rib eye, medium cooked to perfection. It was a little bigger than what I was expecting but it was delicious along with sides of triple cooked chips and a lovely salad. Excellent meal. I've been several time before and I will go several times again! Well done to the attentive friendly staff.

Wow, I actually have so many great things to say about the kings head. The service was excellent, the food was outstanding and the little touches (fudge with latte mostly) were well thought out. I had the bass for main with grapefruit and crab and it was incredible. If you haven’t been there before then I would highly recommend you give it a try. 5*

I’ve visited this establishment a number of times and it never fails to disappoint! The staff are incredible and the food out of this world. It’s a perfect location to bring family, friends or your partner for any occasion! All the food is fresh, colourful and interesting - something different from any other place. And don’t get me started on dessert... a definite recommend!!!

Beautifully cooked Fish - Wonderful Sorbets - really impressed - lovely lighting and I like the layout - discovered a Fabulous Gin called Aviator recommended by friendly and helpful waiter

We recently came here for my Father in Law's 50th Birthday. I organised it as a surprise for him whilst I was on holiday in Australia! The staff were helpful during this stage and the pre-order menu had plenty to chose from!

After wanting to pop in for a few years today we did for a family Sunday lunch. Well this was one of the finest Sunday lunches I had, the beef was lovely and rare the veg was amazing. Will definitely be going back

A welcome smile, the staff very friendly and helpful, knowledgeable about the menu, food excellent, we didn't want our scallop starter to end, the main course arrived which was equally delicious, and the dessert was remarkable, we enjoyed it so much we visited again the next evening and was just as satisfied. Definitely visiting again soon!

Could not fault the food or service - all excellent and very good quality. We each had a super lunch and coffee and desserts on the outside terrace; these were as lovely as the lunch. My only quibble was that there was no potato substitute for my salad (with Tuna Steak) except for chips which I dislike - no new or jacket potato available and the only potatoes which were on the menu were unable to be added to mine even for a supplement. I found this very bizarre. Everything else was exceptional.

The restaurant was busy but the service was good and two of us had the most delicious filet steak, others had equally good prawns. Will definitely be going again when in the area.

We stumbled across this place while we were on a long journey from London. What a find! Exceptionally good food with wonderful flavours and great presentation. Brilliant wine list. Not cheap, but very good value given the quality. High chair provided for our baby and staff incredibly friendly. Faultless.

This is quite a classic and quirky British Independent gastro pub. A lot of effort and time has gone into making people feel at home by the staff, but the food is the star. The prices for food are on the high side - admittedly I didn't check before we booked - but the menu is really well judged, tasty, and cooked with great care and attention to detail. The wine list is also well curated (we had some very nice rioja). We were there on a Wednesday night and the staff were excellent, and super- accommodating to my requests - no fuss.

Had a meal here after the guineas. Wonderful setting, fantastically friendly and attentive staff and fabulous steak cooked to perfection. Slightly pricey which is why I’m only giving 4/5 but well worth a visit if you’re in The area.

We visited last night , we had a table of four booked , the service was outstanding, friendly staff who were ever so helpful . Popped in for a beer after a brisk walk on the July course and was confounded by the lack of beer - very, very disappointing. There are 233 pubs in Britain with the name Kings Head and this must be the only one that doesn't sell cask ale. The only things on tap are cold lagers and the only beer is sold in bottles from a fridge.

The last time I reviewed the Kings Head I gave it 5 stars. I booked for the xmas lunch menu as it looked so good. The scallop starter was fantastic. The turley main was very tasty bit some of the turkey was inedible. I called the waitress and showed her the problem . She came back and said it would be replaced in 5 minutes. She came back with a side plate of stuffing? I told her that I didn't complain about the stuffing but she left it with me and that was the last I heard on the matter. No one came to see if our meals were OK. The dessert was lovely with so many tasty elements to it. We ask for the bill. The waitress threw it on our table as she walked by with food for another table scattering our empty glasses that we had to rescue from falling over. The bill was for £132 including coffee. We had not had coffee and the bill should have been £90. We sent it back. It then came for £ 97 including coffee which we had not had. It took 3 attempts to get the bill right and no apology. We halved the tip.

The King's Head is one of three pubs in the Dullingham area. During a recent visit to the area we opted to have dinner at The King's Head one evening. It turned out to be a memorable evening. The pub turned out to be more of an elegant restaurant than a traditional pub. The server was welcoming and friendly when we arrived at about 8pm without a reservation and she seated us at a table of our choice .Only one other table was occupied. We saw items we liked on the fixed price menu and we were told that if between the two of us we ordered a starter, a main course and the dessert we would be charged for one fixed price menu. This was an absolute bargain My husband enjoyed the Crispy Chilli Beef starter and I had a most delicious risotto. We shared a scrumptious baked dessert. Regrettably our stay in the area was too short to have another meal there, to perhaps experience a busier evening.

A busy Friday night at The Kings Head! All staff were friendly and helpful. Two of us had duck breast, one lemon sole and the other a fillet steak. All were pleased with their food. The sweet of poached pear and additions was to die for. Maybe slightly expensive, but worth it for a good meal.

I personally opted for the set menu. However the family went al le carte. Food was average, both my courses were very salty. Dessert was raspberry tart meringue with a very unusual texture. I won't rush back, I thought it was very overpriced I can go to a posh Cambridge restaurant for less money!

We had not been here for many years, but as we were meeting family who live in Newmarket, we thought we'd give it a try.

I reviewed the Kings Head 3 years ago when we first moved to Dullingham. Then I noted how amazed we were to have found such a high quality restaurant on our doorstep. Three years and several visits later the Kings Head still delivers on all fronts. We last visited with some Swiss friends on 5th August, the service was first class and all dishes well deserve my 5 star rating. Our friends were bowled over by the meal and genuininly surprised at the value of such fine dining in a quiet Cambridgeshire village. Our only problem is we now compare all other restaurants we visit to the Kings Head, and very few equal this great place and even fewer exceed (Michelin star establishments included). Almost forgot to mention, but the wine list is also superb.

We meet with our friends at the Kings Head Dullingham today, they travelled from London. On arrival, you are given a choice as where you would like to sit, either at your booked table, or in the comfortable lounge with leather sofas, we were given first class attention, the meal was superb, you are given as much time as you require to choose, and the polite staff are on hand if you need to ask about the menu. If, for any reason they are not sure they will ask for you, all of this is very much appreciated. The surroundings are excellent and comfortable. Went here for lunch and we both chose the same menu.Scallops and Brill starter at £17 was delicious lots of flavour. New season lamb cooked 3 ways at £25 so imaginative and well presented. Poached peach dessert at £7 was served with lots of tasty elements to it. A bottle of Pino Grigio was £20.We went for Saturday lunch and there was plenty of room in the car park as there were only 4 people eating. The service was extremely good . Will be back!

My first visit and really felt welcome. The staff were excellent and always there to assist where necessary. There was very good choice of excellent food on the menu.Although the place was busy and customers who had not booked had to be sent away, there was no time when we had pressure on us to finish and get out.I will certainly be returning with more friends.

We ate here with friends on a packed Friday night, the service was attentive without being overbearing. The food was exactly as it read on the menu and perfectly seasoned. Nothing more to say other than we will definately be going back. Great all round.

Excellent food, quick discreet charming service BUT please Kings Head, get a grip of the parking! Cars parked on the pavement around a potentially dangerous crossroads, a real muddle and very off putting both visually and to negotiate. Going to try the Three Blackbirds at Wood Ditton which I hope won't lure us away from you....

Having previously enjoyed a sumptuous meal prepared by the team at Crown Catering; we decided treat ourselves to Sunday Lunch at The Kings Head and we were not disappointed. We were greeted by friendly, professional staff, who were attentive but not intrusive. As expected, service was efficient and the quality, flavours and presentation of the food was superb - we will definitely be visiting again!

We had lunch here on Valentine's Day and it was a good choice for a high quality meal. The two or three course set lunch menu was very good value for sophisticated food.. Or you could push the boat out and go a la carte. If you like masterchef-style , well presented dishes, you'll love this! I don't think I'd choose it for a relaxed family meal with small children, but great for grownups who like interesting combinations of ingredients and flavours.. A nice outing combined with a walk on nearby Devil's Dyke on a sunny February afternoon.

Restaurant dining in December can be tricky but not at the Kings Head. Third visit for us as group of friends and once again, we were not disappointed. The menu choices included festive options as well as alternatives. The food was delicious, service excellent and friendly and the wine list extensive. We will return : )

Had lunch with friends a couple of weeks ago. Excellent service, good atmosphere and the Christmas pudding cheesecake is to die for.Will definitely go back again.

This was recommended to us by B&B owner. Evening menu was 2 courses for £26 but the meal was sublime. Steak with fat chips and Xmas pudding cheesecake with clementine sorbet could not be faulted.. Not busy night with just one other table taken. Well worth the money.

well lovely place strange not having any real.ale on tap, Asian type theme going on in the menu shredded need salad a little too sweet! and the quince crumble not sure what going there as very difficult to dechiper taste.. lovely place, nice staff would give it another go off set menu and on al a Carte, to see.

This is by far the best restaurant around the Newmarket area. The food is fantastic and so well priced, the wine selection is great (Whispering Angel is the best!) and the staff are so lovely. This place is a MUST

We had lunch, a starter of pork terrine, followed by steaks and pork belly with cabbage,and followed by three amazing desserts. Everything was delicious and flawless.The food presented in the Kings Head, Dullingham puts so many other places to shame, and I'd urge anyone wanting a fabulous lunch, or simply looking to improve their own food to visit here.

Now, if you've seen any of my other reviews, you can see I am lucky enough to stay / dine at some amazing places. But the Kings Head in the beautiful, picture postcard village of Dullingham outshines so many of the, so called Michelin restaurants I visit in London, and is officially my new favourite restaurant! Everything from the location, the service, the décor and of course the food, makes the Kings Head a truly excellent restaurant. Having come here after a day at the races in nearby Newmarket, we were greeted with very friendly staff and the manager, Paul, was a perfect host. And the food was outstanding (we had the lobster, and the beef - delicious). A definite location next time I find myself in Suffolk.

Had a lovely meal here, not quite perfect though. A couple of pointers -1. very expensive but probably due to the amount of work that goes into the food. I think it could be simplified a little and reduced in price slightly. I could just hear John Torode saying ' too much going on'. Lots of good ideas but concentrate on the great ingredients and don't over complicate a dish.2. Slow down a bit with the service - missing a trick rushing people straight to table, maybe they want a pre dinner drink? If you are paying £50 + per head, you want it to last the evening not an hour and a half, especially if you are not too busy. It's in your interests to make the place look full and have some atmosphere.Nice people, good to see the place has been refurbished tastefully, great food. I think the set menu looks exceptional value for money, so I'll try that one next time.

Crown catering provided the food for our wedding at Chippenham Park last year, and we were so impressed by the quality of the food that we decided to make a reservation at The King's Head for our first wedding anniversary meal. The food was superb and the service was brilliant, the staff went the extra mile to make our evening extra special- best restaurant we have been to.

Having arranged to use the Kings Head as an assembly point for a meeting of friends, we realised that it was only a restaurant with no bar facilities....so we had some lunch!!Only a light lunch, as we had a big dinner ahead(!), but what we had was excellent. The freshly baked bread, with plenty of butter, was really good. The service was great...the place exuded quality....I would love to return.

After a visit to the Newmarket Stud, our group of 20+ had lunch here. Charming pub; friendly staff; nice restaurant up the stairs; good service & a really good three course meal. The food was clean & well prepared. My congratulations to the chef & his kitchen.Probably a little bit pricey for pub grub - but you get what you pay for & I thoroughly enjoyed all three courses from our set menu. Only real drawback it is a pub with no draught ale. I had to drink Adnams from the bottle ! They had some of that awful lager stuff on draught, but it is not the same. Never mind, would eat here again & just complement the food with a glass of red.

We've recently moved up from London to live near Newmarket and we had been spoilt by some lovely restaurants in the City but what a lovely surprise the Kings Head was!From the minute we walked in Paul and his staff were very welcoming and although they were fully booked they got us a table in the restaurant (we had thought we would eat in the bar).We had a drink before our meal and then ordered the asparagus starter (x2), sea trout and a steak and finished off with an amazing chocolate dessert. ALL the food was first class and most of it was locally sourced. The presentation was exceptional.The bill which included 4 drinks and a tip was £100 so very good value.We will definitely be back and if you are thinking of going I suggest you book early especially on a Friday as they were turning people away!

Had an excellent lunch, food was very good, well cooked and excellently presented. Dishes on the main menu are perhaps a little on the expensive side but the 3 course lunch for £20 is very good value. Service was very good throughout. Only slight drawback is the very limited selection of draught beer. Would certainly return.

As locals we have always felt this restaurant did not cater for us, but eventually we decided to give it a go. The menu was limited and too fussy; we eventually chose the Cote de boeuf, which was at best ok but certainly not worth the inflated price (£60), The staff were supercilious and inattentive. As a dessert lover, I couldn't even find a pud worth trying - a very disappointing end to a lack lustre evening.

We visited the Kings Head on Friday evening and had a lovely meal. We had booked earlier in the week as we were staying close by and wanted to be sure of a table. When I rang to book I asked if one of our party could have a plain main course, they made a note of this and were very accommodating. The food was beautifully cooked and presented. Vi kom dit med vänner från Newmarket efter ett besök på et stuteri. Newmarket er hästesportens center i England med tusentalls fullblodshester. "KIngs Head" denne söndag med lunchmeny av roastbeef som var riktigt gott. En av våra vänner beställde från menyn färska sparris med krabba och sparris med endive sallad. En vän beställde skotsk beef filet som var en smakspplevelse. Trots många kunder denna söndag var servicen på topp.Miljöet omkring i lantliga omgivelser var ett plus. Många av hästfolket från Newmarket verkade besöka denna pub/krog.

Went to the Kings Head today for the first time in some years past. Very friendly introduction from the staff and comfortable environment. The food was available very quickly and was excellent in presentation and taste. Congratulations to the very competent Chef. Will hope to be able to come again. Located in a quiet little village near Newmarket the Kings Head is the perfect location for a drink and some food. Staff are very friendly and are large range of drinks are on offer.

Pricier than other options around Cambridge and although they try hard, for me it misses the mark somewhat. While I am open to adventurous menus, the chef seems to feel that more ingredients or components on the plate equals a better dish. Consequently many dishes appear muddled and the emphasis seems to be more on the cleverness of dishes rather than how they eat for the diner. The cooking is reasonable and if the dishes were focussed on being good to eat rather than clever, then this could be the best restaurant in the area.

A nice warm welcome with great food and service. We ordered off the set menu which had a good selection to choose from and the portion sizes were good so was good value for money.

I had high hopes for The King's Head as friends had rated it and the environment when you walk in is warm and cosy and the greeting friendly. However, the food in my opinion was very poor. The Seared Fillet of Plaice with Saffron potatoes, salsify & leeks, mussels & light curry velouté was nothing like it sounds. The light curry velouté was more like gravy and the potatoes tasted like they were from a tin. An expensive and disappointing meal. Not sure I'd give it a second visit...

Kings Head provided a Christmas meal/many choices for almost 30 of us. Every course excelled. The steak was perfection.

Yes this was our second visit unfortunately as it turned out no different to the first occasion in every aspect.Arriving on time and with the restaurant almost empty we were quickly shown to our table to peruse the rather limited menu. A wait of 40 minutes then ensued before the first course arrived, by which time the restaurant was now very busy, which translated into intolerable decibel levels interspersed by cheering and the odd obviously worst for wear female diner crashing to the floor adjacent to our table.Back to the food, it's good but no more than that, the menu seems to infer "Fine Dining" and if achieved would be great value, however, with the existing clientele it is no more than a rowdy pub and as such is over priced.Although very pleasant the three staff serving seemed totally overrun with the number of diners to attend to, resulting in very little rapport with our table.Having attended a wedding venue serviced by the same company with excellent food and service "The Kings Head" remains alas a hugely disappointing experience.

Kings head catered for our wedding at chippenham park 12th September this year and everything was fantastic! The service was beyond expectations and the truly went above and beyond to make sure we were having the best day, a special thank you to the lady that made sure we always had a glass of bubbly in hand even if it meant you crossing the grounds to get to us, it was so appreciated and I'm so sorry that i can't remember your name. Both on the lead up and during the day everyone was so helpful! It never seemed like too much trouble. The food was really fantastic!! Everyone commented on how great it was, thank you chefs!
