The Indian Garden in East Cambridgeshire

PRICES INCORRECT! We visited on a Friday night and were given the restaurant menus, we then had our meal (food wasn’t great, the butter chicken was watery), we asked for the bill and the price didn’t correspond with the menu. The butter chicken on the menu was £9.50 and on the bill was £13. We asked to see the menu to double check we were right, the waiter said that the menus were old and incorrect, the real prices were on the takeaway menu - which were NOT given to us at the start of the meal. We told the waiter we were not happy to pay the price on the bill and he refused to change it even though we told him it was illegal to sell food with wrong prices. Just to warn those that are wanting to dine here, we ended up paying £15 more than we were supposed to, the waiters did not seem to care and continued to say he would tell the boss who was not present.

This is the very best Indian restaurant. The food, the service , everything. Excellent in every way. The King Prawn Kulna is particularly superb.

Literally the worst Indian takeaway I have ever had, the only thing that seemed fresh was the side salad and the poppadom, the onion baji were flat and overcooked, the chicken in both the korma and balti was rubbery and both dishes lacked any depth of flavour , the mushroom rice was bland, the naan bread cremated, plus after a short journey home nothing was remotely hot, extremely disappointing.

The meals were spot on, absolutely delicious and no complaints at all. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our visit. We'll definitely be going back again.

Had a takeaway from India Garden tonight for the first time- possibly the best Lamb Dhansak I've had in my life. Reasonably priced, quick turnaround and immense flavour.

Service was very good - thanks to Tuf & Sam. The food was very tasty & liked the recommended starter. We did the banquet night on Wednesday. Good value.

Wish I had read the reviews before ordering a delivery 👎 spent £45.00 for food that arrived stone cold (not even the slightest bit of warmth) and I live at the other end of the same village. After reheating the said food I wish I hadn’t bothered as both of us felt it was tasteless and a complete waste of money . Really not happy and will never order from them again. On a positive (the only one) the driver was very pleasant .

Please don't order takeaway. I have waited 2 hours I spent £70 no food I said if not here by 8 want a refund he said driver was on way I asked if lying he said no 1958 refund issued. Food had not been cooked or out for delivery

Always order our food from here. Jay is always amazing and has something to offer when looking for recommendations. The food is always well cooked and smells/looks great. Take away service is always busy.

DO NOT EAT HERE: Digging into a Chicken Curry and near the end of my meal I find what looks like a baby cockroach in my food, when we spoke to the cook and owners they justified the reason as that it could have been put in after the cooking (as if that makes it any better) I have photographic proof of this and proceeded to ban us for bringing this up. I beg if you want to eat at an Indian Restaurant. DO NOT EAT HERE! 🥹🥹🥵

Good food. Good service and good value for money.

We had a lovely meal in the restaurant. The food was all hot, tasty, and nicely cooked. The portion sizes are generous too. The waiters were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely return. Another tip: if you've hired a boat and you're on the river, this is a great place nearby to come to when you've moored up. We did it last year, and it makes for a very pleasant evening.

Unbelievable experience tonight turned up on a Wednesday night with no more than 4 tables already seated to say why haven't we booked and basically told us not welcome you should book next time no worries to us enjoyed a lovely indian else where I think they think they are the only indian Sylhet in ely spot on and they care.

I have been here a few times and the food is above par, the tandoori chicken I had tonight was spot on, jalfezi wasn't as hot as I'm use to but left a little bit of a building heat in mouth and lips, which in essence is what you want as it means the spices have been fried off in general. However I would of wanted it a little more spicy (I'm sure they would accommodate that of I ask as the service is great). There was a little confusion as I ordered online through a new system so my order was overseen so had to wait a while but the staff and owner were apologetic and gave me a Fanta and coke (glass bottles) which let's be honest aren't cheap being glass bottles. The only issue I had was a couple that came in and complained about the Asian music and then ordered English tea! Not Indian! (I know) which was obviously not available. Staff and owner handed it well and I would like to just say to them that pls ignore cavman like this. End on a positive note, good value for money and will go yet again.

Best curry in the area if you are dining in the restaurant along with friendly service. Will be visiting again very soon!

Now totally Useless delivery service, one week took 100mins, this week nothing arrived at all, I tell you all don't use them for delivery service at all.

Has to be the worst Indian we have ever eaten. Food was cold, every dish tasted the same from Tikka Masala to Korma. Everything was like eating sweet coconut and the rice was awful. Never again 😒

Great takeaway - one of the best we’ve had! We were moored on the river and found this a short walk away and got some yummy food. Onion bhajees, chicken tikka biryani (huge portion!), dansak and rice and naan. Fresh and delicious- I loved it all as did hubby. Very glad you’ve got a restaurant in Fordham which is just down the road!

Been using this restaurant for many years. Sadly falling into past bad habits. Poor delivery service, incompetent delivery drivers and uncaring phone staff. Sadly when ordering online they have your money long before you get your food so you are at their mercy. Not even bothered when I told them I would be going elsewhere in the future

We think they've changed the chef. This used to be a fantastic restaurant that we visited twice a month but the last four visits we have made have been very poor.

Loving evening out , food great ( lots of it! ) naan bread huge. Waiters Tu and Jay so friendly chatted about dogs and Bangladesh - will visit one day . Definitely worth a visit .

Why oh why can the staff not be honest? Placed order through Just Eat, confirmation of delivery 1915 to 1930. That came and went, called the restaurant... three different stories given. Told was taken out for delivery at 1920... we live off Parsons Lane so not far. 1945, no delivery. The person on phone said was out for delivery with one other when called earlier, now another 3 had miraculously bern taken.... said he had called the driver and would be 2 minutes. Driver turns up 1955, with a freshly cooked meal. The owners had decided to send someone else's orders before us even though we placed first...and lied three times about what was happening. I hate liars and will never use this place again. One true word would have helped, but not a single honest comment passed. Customer service epic fail

Very friendly staff was a bit worried after reading some of the reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised. Jay and his team looked after us the good and the wine was good. Very large portions!! I would definitely go back

A really really good Indian!! Had one of the recommended dishes, something slightly different and it was lush. Portions are a sensible size ie quality not quantity as such which I think is much more important. Service is exceptional - being new to area I didn’t know there was a curry house and I was surprised; this place is really good food! Not cheap but well worth it

Perfect choice at the boardgame night

Really disappointed,, we ordered at 6 pm and didn’t arrive until 8.30 pm, and then the food was all cold so was really a let down for the amount of money we spent. I appreciate the man on the phone was apologetic and gave us some popadoms and sauce free , but we were very much looking forward to it and were completely let down.

Great food but only 0ne member of staff having to deal with everything so some people left without ordering food. It was such a shame the service let it down. But I will say the gentleman who was on his own did his best for us.

Awful, rude service. Opted for delivery for a change which was a mistake. Called to check our delivery time as the estimate had been and gone. Was told it had left the kitchen, which seems to be the standard response to get rid of you. Asked to cancel as it was so late but they refused, insisting it can only be cancelled through an app, and rudely hung up. No idea what app as we didn’t order through one, but they couldn’t have cared less.

I would not recommend this place at all, took over 2 hours to be delivered & once it finally arrived it was all cold so we had to reheat it ourselves. The rice was watery, forgot the onion salad aswell, will not be returning to this place ever! What a waste of £30 pounds.

Went there a week or two after they won Best Curryhouse in the County. Well deserved! Price is fair, quality is high. Service is good. Website not reliable but phoning in is fine. Since been back again and would definitely recommend it. Nice guys too.

A customer for 10 years and over the past three to four years the standard of their food dropped considerably since their award winning days of 2014. New managements in the past year or two has now also seen the level of service drop to unacceptable standards. They've lost me now, after a lot of perseverance. There are other Indian Restaurants in the village, who will not have to do a lot to be a lot better than the Indian Garden these days. My review has just been classed as spam by the restaurant. This is a genuine review.

I went there for my wedding lunch. A disaster!! There was no one except for us people (7). The owner after sometime started screaming with the cook I do not know about what, and I do not want to know, and that was not indian food, not in one million years. Sorry, but never again

Our food was 90 minutes late. Stone cold. No flavour and swimming in grease. Phone number didn't connect so couldn't ring and complain. Horrendous.

Just had an argument with the guy on the desk saying that his customer service wasn’t good enough had to wait an hour for my food while I was there I had a beer and his customer service was disgusting the other customers wasn’t happy about this either absolutely disgusting don’t know if I can go back again !!!!

Been using for years but recently it's gone down hill ring though order at 7.10 and was told to collect at 8pm and at 8.40pm finally get order then get home and food was lacking in any flavour currys where watery the onion salad was half the size that normally get.real shame that its gone so down hill used to be best around

Really disappointed with our takeaway recently,, it lacked flavour and tasted quite bland. Not sure if it's a new chef but it wasn't good.

Been going here for years, it started that I was getting wrong food, delivery never turned up and then I had to go and get it. Tonight ordered the food all correct the taste had gone it was so plain the garlic nan was plain it was awful this will be the last time I go there after 20 years plus.

Horrible. I found a chicken nugget in my lamb jalfrezi. I called the restaurant and they were not helpful at all.

Best curry in the Ely area!! I do not like spicy food and I love a Chicken Dhansk, they always cook a medium spice to perfection

I'm vegetarian and I found meat in my meal. I called the restaurant and they were less than helpful or sympathetic. Very rude when I presented my complaint. Refused to take any responsibility for it, said it was impossible my dish contained meat and that "it's your word against ours". He got upset and hung up on me. Not only this shows very poor customer service, it is great disregard for Food Safety. If you have any allergy rethink before ordering from Indian Garden. If you are allergic to seafood there is no certainty you will not end up having an anaphylactic shock due to cross contamination and it will be your word against theirs. Regarding the food itself, the Paneer Tikka Masala I ordered was everything but Indian. You can taste the sweetness of artificial sauces and there's little to no seasoning. The paneer came in huge chunks, not delicious at all. On top of everything, the order took 1h20 to arrive (which is the delivery company's responsibility). Overall terrible.

Food was great; delivery was poor. Item was missing and despite the call to the restaurant and the reassurance they'd resend it, it never arrived.

The chicken jalfrezi was actually horrible and inedible. The few lumps of chicken were just that, lumps of chicken thrown in with no flavour. Very disappointed

Honestly. This is the worst food I've had. I've been cooking better curries than this lot since I was 9! Horrible. Oh, and the roti..? Not even rolled or cooked properly. You can taste it's still raw.

Not the cheapest Indian takeaway (approx £30 for a takeaway dinner for two) but good quality food. The delivery to Littleport is always faster than they estimate which is a great bonus. We haven't sat inside yet so can't comment on eating in. Reducing the prices a little would get 5*

The food was substandard. The naan wasn’t soft and fluffy at all, it was so overdone that it was crisp. I didn’t enjoy that at all. The Bhindi Okra was really nice. The butter chicken was aweful and the chicken was dry. It was all ordered late so maybe I got leftovers?!! Sorry but I wouldn’t recommend. And the food was just dumped on my doorstep, nice. The owner is also a sleeze and is rude to customers.

So impressed with this place. Portion sizes are excellent and well worth what you pay. The food was piping hot and tasted amazing, honestly one of the best tikka masala's we've ever eaten. Delivery girl was courteous and nice. We've had Indian Garden once before and had the pleasure of meeting the family that owns it, and they are really pleasant people! Will be using this takeaway as our go-to from now on.

This is by far the best Indian in the area. I live in Ely so drive 15 mins to them..it’s worth it. Yes it’s a little pricier but at least if you order King Prawns they are exactly that. You get home and open the property packaged food and it looks restaurant quality. I really can’t recommend them enough and I have lived in Ely 12 years plus after being spoilt for choice in London. You won’t be disappointed

Many have a favourite and let me guess; you feel like trying something different but end up going for your tried and trusted favourite curry and side dishes over and over again!If you really love curries / Bangladeshi & Asian cuisine then it’s my duty to bring this restaurant to your attention. It quite literally cannot be beaten. The extensive menu, the quality of the food, fantastic presentation and second to none service make it deserve my title of; The Unbeatable Indian Garden.It has a five star hygiene rating and was voted runner up as best Indian Restaurant in the UK. That’s one heck of an achievement, don’t believe me? The plaque is just inside the door.I have introduced so many people to this restaurant and everybody, EVERYBODY (and yes, I am shouting!) has said they’ve never experienced anything like it. We live on a boat and arrived in muddy wellies so we had dinner in socks. Robin, who welcomed us, didn't blink an eyelid and that was the first indication that service was going to be good. The meal arrived and looked attractive, nicely presented. This is an above average Indian restaurant. The food is very well spiced, the seasoning is subtle, tastes delicious, the portions are just right, the service is good and friendly. Staff are professional and obviously get on with each other which is good to see. Jay and Robin were both relaxed with customers. Prices are more than reasonable so value for money. Highly recommended.

We booked a table here whilst on holiday in the area. All the staff were very helpful and polite. The food was delicious and served very quickly. This is one of the best Indian restaurants we have visited and we would definitely return!

We moored up at the swan but decided to take a walk into the lovely Littleport and found this restaurant. I can honestly say this could be the best Indian food I’ve had for a very long time and it was great value for money too. I can recommend the prawns with garlic and coriander dish, not too spicy which I like and so very tasty. Definitely worth a visit and the staff were very friendly too giving us each a drink of choice on the house being our friend’s birthday. Thank you so much!

I have had good meals here over the last few years but on Bank Holiday Monday I had a Korhai Chicken curry (not too spicy) and rice/ naan and I'm afraid I paid for in the early hour of the morning and the next day. A very upset stomach from a mild curry and one beer and it was the only thing that could have caused unfortunately. Hopefully a one off but it has put me off returning there any time soon.

My favourite 'Indian' food restaurant in this area. The food is always superb and beautifully presented. Cannot be bettered. Never a disappointment unless I can't get in! Lovely staff, so friendly and professional. Very obliging and welcoming. You're missing out if you don't give the Indian garden a try. You'll be back. *Decor not as sophisticated as this level of cuisine deserves. Perhaps if they moved to Ely they could step it up a notch. It is what it is though.* You cannot find better anywhere. Very good value indeed.

I ordered online. The site states orders taken up til 23.00. I ordered just after 10pm and confirmation received saying will be delivered by 23.15 (45 mins later). I got a call 5 mins later saying last order was 22.00 and so I would need to pick up, hence did not make sense and was inconvenient. I picked up 20 mins later. I checked website and nothing about last order to be by 22.00 and order was accepted. I could view my order but not cancel or take off delivery charge £3. I was told the details were wrong as it was as old site. As a customer I'm not to know this and also had to pay delivery charge £3 and had to make arrangements so I could pick up myself. I asked how I get delivery charge back as not allowing me online. They advised it was nothing to do with them as an online thing. I asked if it was their website and they said yes but the one. Again said this was not my problem as I was a customer and they needed to take responsibility and assist me in resolving the issue. I eventually received £3 back in cash. Another staff member told me they had no delivery driver otherwise they would have delivered. Was this this truth as to what was going on. As a local customer I would expect honesty and good customer service; If they have an old website, why is it still accessible accepting orders, letting restaurant know and advertising orders taken up to 2300. I would expect; 1Transparency with websites, bookings, payments, refunds and correct information advertised 2If a website is old to be shut down to avoid myself and others making payments unnecessarily, perhaps others not getting money back or their food order 3An apology 4Delivery charge refunded without having to bring it up myself 5myself and others not to be put in this position 6 staff not put in awkward position Very disappointed L

Ordered from here last night and was highly disappointed. Ordered through the online ordering system they have on their website and selected 22.15 I would like it to be ready, I received a call at 21.40 to say it’s ready? Was not allowed to pay by card on pick up as ordered online also, so had to run out and get cash, thought that was weird. Not sure why this online ordering even exists? Got home and food was cold and all changed and didn’t really like it at all. I’ve lived here for 27 years and always been my favorite Indian restaurant but I would now say my least favorite

Ordered a few times over the last few months always amazing food. I like the Rogan josh lamb the best, the meat always melts in your mouth. Never had a bad experience. Would 100% recommend.

Quiet Thursday night in late January when we visited. The food was excellent, the breads freshly made and the service was perfect - not overly intrusive but there when needed. Highly recommended - you won't be disappointed.

Over priced food, when added up on menu they had over priced us by £5. When emailed about hair in the food they didn't want to know.

We live in Littleport and have been going there for several weeks now, we find that the food is excellent with the exception that some of the prawns have not been do-poo-ed.Just a few each time and put them to the side. Its a bit off-putting.Will give the restaurant a another try.

Love the chicken Korma. The seats are not that comfortable though, they need to be higher!

We took a couple of friends to the Indian Garden on Saturday night and had the most wonderful food. I ordered the chicken shaslik special which I had on my previous visit and it was still excellent. Our friends both agreed that their bombay potato was the best they had ever had. The portions were very generous and I had to take a doggy bag home as I didn't want to waste any. I know they do a good take-away trade but I do wish that more people would use the restaurant as it was very quiet for a Saturday night which is a shame.

A sneaky way to uplift your bill, even if you request a substitute naan and offer to pay extra, you’ll end up with 2 naans. I ordered online and got a price of £17. When I got there it was £19 and I made it clear I wanted only 1 naan. A keema naan in place of a plain one. I was happy to pay more. In the end the got home with 2 keema naans having paid 15% more. Check your order before you leave because the staff don’t listen

Had the Wednesday night buffet, food was beautiful and really well presented. Would recommend the chicken tikka biryani and saag paneer.

Lovely food staff very attentive

Had a lovely take away from Indian garden. They were very generous portion wise, had big chunks of meat which was perfectly cooked. We were only disappointed that food was a bit bland. Indian use lots of spices etc but even rice was bit tasteless. Will be worth to improve on that one :)

We started to get our weekly curry takeaways from Indian Garden a couple of months ago and I must say that their currys are the best. The Chicken Tikka Masala has plenty of soft white chicken breast pieces in a lovely red,thick Masala sauce.The taste was awesome. My wife has the Vegetable Dhansak Madras hot and that's a lovely tasting dish too. I'm 100% sure all their dishes are of a high standard and taste lovely. The service from the waiters is very friendly and caring. Great food, well done Indian Garden.

Wouldn't bother having the chicken Korma, it's more like a pudding than a main course, could have just eatten sugar. other meals were ok. wasn't worth paying for
