We’ve visited this pub three times now whilst holidaying locally, we also visited last year. The food is excellent, good locally sourced meat and well prepared dishes. The landlord and landlady are very welcoming and the pub has a lovely atmosphere, if we lived here then this would be our go to pub for sure as it’s everything we like in a country pub. It’s definitely the best pub in the area, we highly recommend a visit and we will certainly be back next year when we return for our holiday in Ravenstonedale. Thank you for making us, our baby son and our dogs so welcome.

We had a nice meal on a Sunday afternoon. The pub had a female singer on doing a mix of covers and her own songs. I chose the Sunday roast and my partner went for a pub classic. The log fire was not too hot and it was busy with families. It’s in a nice setting next to a river and has a large beer garden to the side. There is a pool table and it has Sky tv. The village is lovely and has another good pub called the Black Swan.

We wanted to find a little country pub for lunch and this was just the perfect find. Friendly warm welcome. The pub is so cosy, the decor is fantastic. The food was really good and we would definitely recommend. Sadly we don't live anywhere near but next time we are up this way we will certainly be going back.

Family Sunday lunch, disappointing with parts of our experience, had to remind staff to take our orders, parsnips to hard to eat, Yorkshire pudding soggy. Crumble on the fruit crumble tasted like a biscuit that had been crumbled, rather unpleasant

We stayed here after whilst doing the coast to coast walk. Whilst we did not eat her as we were at a wedding, our friends did and said there had an excellent meal. The rooms are very comfortable and uniquely furnished and decorated as is the pub in general. The stafe are also very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was generous and of decent quality and we would have no hesitation in staying again.

What an amazing little pub this was, we came to Cumbria with our family and were looking for somewhere to have something to eat. We googled dog friendly pubs and this one was top of the list. So friendly and welcoming, food was amazing and the dog was treated better than us. Such a friendly vibe and would recommend to anybody. If you’re in the area and are looking for somewhere to eat I would highly recommend.

The staff are all lovely and very friendly and welcomed our 2 dogs even though the little one was prone to barking a lot. Been meaning to go here for a while and it did not disappoint when we finally made it. Really nice chatting staff, and they love dogs. I have the steak and ale pie, it was absolutely gorgeous, full of meat and so tender. Best pie I have had by a distance. We will be back.

Really poor meal so disappointed, service was really good, but food a non non-starter. Steak meal came with partly cooked whole tomato, 1 mushroom and a piece of partly cooked red onion. Steak and ale pie so dry accompanied by a jug of granule gravy. This is the worst meal, I've had in the whole of Cumbria!

Travelling down from Scotland and picking out places to stay along the route. Picked this Hotel from its above cleanliness review. On coming to the room, we were given excuses for marks on carpets from previous occupants but that was nothing compared to the dead flies in the windows and floors in the bathroom with an extractor fan that had not been cleaned in a long time. Floors are creaky as it's a quaint old building but for an old period property, you can hear everything in everyone else's rooms. Meal was mediocre frozen pub grub however breakfast was the nicest I've had in a long time.

Perfect location after our lovely walk. Went for a drink but decided to get some lunch too so I ordered the "famous" Kings head hanging kebab with what they describe as a very generous portion of skinny fries. I chose roasted vegetables instead of chicken as I dont eat meat. Got my food prompt and was instantly disappointed. At 17.50p...the most expensive item on their menu, I was given a paltry 1 mushroom, half a pepper, half a red onion and a piece of lime hanging from some metal. I also saw a small dish of fries. Children's portion. And a wrap. Don't get me wrong....the food tasted good but for that price I was actually robbed. I'd have been just about happy paying 8 pounds for that terrible effort at best. Exceptionally disappointed and would never recommend that item if youre at all hungry. My friends offering of a cibatta came qith more fries and a larger portion...for 12 pounds. Clearly its famous for being rubbish and stingy.

Looking for a last stopover after 2 weeks travelling round Scotland. Ideally situated for the M6 but in a gorgeous little village, we were absolutely delighted with our stay. We were spending two weeks in the lakes and I booked this in advance . It got off to a bad start when the male member of staff was off hand when we walked in though it was hardly busy. The menu is very nineteen seventies being mainly burgers and steak with one vegetarian dish and no sign of vegetables as a side. I settled for what was described as a homemade pie and it arrived with one scoop of mash and a thimble of mushy peas. My wife had a vegetarian dish which seemed to consist mainly of peppers and onions. She asked if she could replace the rice with vegetables and the suggestion from the male member of staff was baked beans ! Try The Dalesman in Sedbergh instead.

Great traditional pub in a pretty village. Bar staff were top notch. Very polite & professional. Had a couple of great meals with friends. There was no complaints at our table. The steak pie, hand cut chips with mushy peas & gravy was my favourite with the chicken & ham pie a close second. My wife enjoyed the veggie burger & the dog got treats from the staff. A good choice of real ale & dog friendly to boot. Have to get the Sunday roast next time as it was packed when we popped in for a drink. Book a table at weekends to guarantee a table. No complaints with the pricing for us. Don't know why people complain about pricing. If you don't like it don't order it. Simples :-)

The King's Head was awarded 2022/23 'Pub Of The Year' by the prestigious Luxury Travel Guide. When you visit you will soon understand why they gained this award. We stayed one night here in superb accomodation and had both an evening meal and breakfast. The food was delicious, we had the steak and ale pie, mash, peas & gravy for our evening meal, possibly the best pub grub we have eaten! The breakfast menu was varied and catered for all, the 'full English' was like a banquet it included so much. They are extremely dog friendly. Such a lovely village pub, open fire, good ale, even cut-glass decanters for water and juice. The staff did everything possible to ensure we enjoyed our visit. We will return!

Friendly enough couple of guys serving - two out of the three pies on the menu were off (we were told after we attempted to order, not before) so my wife opted for the 'pannini with hoummus and roasted vegetables'Sounds good on paper but it was truly awful - dry & pallid white - a pannini is a essentially a toasted sandwich - should be toasted golden brown, buttery inside - within was a smear of hoummus with some sun-dried tomatoes - definitely no roasted vegetables - the accompanying salad was a few lettuce leaves and two whole baby tomatoes rolling around the plate. It was also advertised as coming with' dipping sauce and chutney' - neither appeared to be presentAlso advertised as coming with skinny fries - these didn't show at first so we asked - the worst fries - all different widths (some like needles) but smelling of and sitting in a shallow pool of grease in the bottom of the bowl.. clearly the guy in the kitchen hasn't a clue and the menu description doesn't reflect the offer on the plate - I'm no cook but I can toast a pannini and I dry off fries on kitchen roll before servingMy beef brisket on a yorkshire pud was OK but with two drinks its still a bill of £40I just don't understand why a place fails so badly when its a quiet lunchtime in January - we're not wanting fine dining just good quality, well cooked food comparable to that you may prepare at home .. maybe we should have complained at the time but you're hungry so you shrug your shoulders and eat...If the place is to succeed and to encourage diners to return they must get that pub food, all food should be cooked and presented beautifully down to the last detail and the menu must be accurate - its not rocket science...note this review is intended as constructive criticism

After visiting several times over a week long stay nearby .. The setting, food, ambiance & staff all charming .. Alex & Charlotte could not do enough for our family …. Yes maybe at a slower pace but just a real relaxed atmosphere & Dog friendly too !!It Reminded us all of our holidays in years gone by as youngsters .. nice chats to local people .. In these times we should be supporting these places .. not finding fault. Everywhere has staff shortages & huge issues due to Covid & isolation etc … they just can’t broadcast it & forgotten far too easily for the staff covering & coping in these uncertain times .. Be kind ..We will definitely be returning in the new year with family & friends .. a beautiful little safe haven .. we thoroughly enjoyed our many visits here over the week. A chat grabbing a morning coffee for our walk …. lunch ..& dinner a few nights... & take away when we just wanted nice food & no company .. who does this service nowadays??? We were part of a group booked for dinner, and on the basis that the Kings Head was apparently going to be busy, we'd been asked to pre-select our menu options a couple of days before. In fact, there didn't appear to be many other diners so not sure why this was necessary. Service was great - very friendly and helpful, but the food was, at best, mediocre, with more emphasis on quantity than quality. Only after we'd finished eating (and of course given that we'd not seen any menus since pre-ordering) did it occur to those of us who'd had pie that the promised 'jug of delicious home-made gravy' had not materialised. The skin-on chips were soggy, and overall, the dishes just seemed very underwhelming. Certainly wouldn't rush back.

We've been to the King's Head before so we were looking forward to lunch there. We arrived, sat down and waited to be attended to and given a menu. The serving staff - one older gent and one or two young women - were standing at the bar, drinking and chatting. So we waited for them - and waited - and waited. At no time did they even glance in the direction of the people sitting in the room. Eventually my wife got up and asked them if we should order a meal at the bar - and then the man sprung into action, taking our order but in a very over-familiar fashion. After another long wait the food arrived - and I have to say it was excellent, though the "skin-on chips" were actually huge, long-ways-sliced hunks of potato. The steak pie was lovely, as was the tomato soup with nice home-made bread. After we'd finished we sat - and sat - and sat. Eventually we asked for the table to be cleared, whereupon the first waiter removed some of the plates and didn't come back. And again, he'd been a bit on the over-familiar side, much too chatty and over-friendly in a creepy kind of way. Eventually we departed, and it took another waiter some time to sort out the bill. The prices were on the high side - pie, chips and mushy peas was £14 and a round of drinks - one large white wine, one small white wine and one pint of beer - was £19! All the time there was pop music playing in the background - not what you want in a nice country pub. I don't know if the pub has changed hands, but while the food was still excellent (though the menu seemed a bit more basic than it used to be), everything else about the place was a severe disappointment. And surely, waiting staff shouldn't be standing at the bar drinking and chatting at one o'clock in the afternoon with a room full of people wanting lunch - absolutely terrible!

After an hour we asked when our 4 carvery meals would be served and were told about another 15 minutes. 35 minutes later we were still waiting. At that point we summoned the landlord to complain. (He hadn’t spoken to us up until now to either explain or apologise). He simply shrugged his shoulders as we left. We weren’t told when we were sat down and it’s only 3pm on a Sunday! They had only served 30 people before us. Why is it not possible to prep enough food for a Sunday lunch which the majority of people order on a Sunday.Food we had was nice, husband had a steak instead but really disappointed with lack of roast. When the food was brought to us, the waitress had my cheese pie and tried to give it to another table. She then went back to get the steak. We didn’t have any cutlery prior to getting the food. Had to ask for the gravy which came with the pie, also asked for salt and young waitress brought the salt and pepper over but both were empty. Husband went to find more but all the salts were empty! They were busy with drinkers and diners but with the service levels as they are and the lack of options on the Sunday menu, it’s not somewhere we will return in a hurry. Such a shame as it’s a lovely setting.

I hope our Sunday lunch experience was just a blip as the Pub is very nice and in a lovely village setting and dog friendly. There was even a guy playing his guitar. The place was busy and we had booked in advance. It didn’t take long to see that the kitchen was chaos, no doubt understaffed. Food was being served very haphazardly leaving many diners watching while one or two people on their tables ate.Drinks service was good and the staff friendly but after an hour it became clear we were unlikely to eat anytime soon…. To be fair the waitress came over at that point to say there were 27 people ahead of us so we would be waiting at least another half hour. We couldn’t wait any longer so we paid for our drinks and departed……not sure if the wait would have been worth it it looked like a very ordinary Sunday lunch which for £16 seemed overpriced. I hate to give poor reviews and I know retaining good chefs is a challenge but overloading the kitchen could have been avoided had they reduced the menu and not over committed themselves…..

We chanced upon this pub and went in for drink, we read the reviews and they were poor. We received a warm welcome and decided to stay for a meal and were glad we did, it was excellent. The portions were huge and the food was really tasty. The place has received a fairly recent facelift and was very comfortable, our dog was welcomed in too. Excellent!

Attractive, comfortable dining area, good service, good range of beers and good menu. It would be better if the menu changed daily at least a little; this would attract people back during their stay locally.

Pool table, roaring log fire and fantastic local beers and food - what is not to love. The decor is absolutely gorgeous tweeds and old oak. Food is classic pub grub with generous portions. Clearly the beating heart of a village with loads of energy to make guests feel welcome.

What can I say....This place is perfect in every way. We didn't stay over here but really wished we had. The pub is so beautiful, quaint and really looked after. It feels so welcoming. It's really looked after and very clean. The staff are amazing (Glenn,Charlotte,Sophie,Taryn) They all work so hard. They are extremely efficient and attentive, even though they are busy, they still have time to see if everything is fine and have a little chat. We had one lunch and two evening meals here and I can honestly say all three meals were gorgeous, so hats off to the chef. The service was perfect and the food arrived piping hot. The portion sizes were fantastic. The fat chips are so good. We can't recommend this place enough. Definitely gets 5 stars from us. We've ate in so many fine dining venues. Recently Moor Hall that has 2 Michelin stars and voted best restaurant in the UK 2yrs running and although both venues can't be compared, I will say I enjoyed them both thoughly for different reasons. So well done to all at The Kings Head. Keep up the good work.

The Kings Head at Ravenstone dale was fun from start to finish but, in a very different way. Run by 4 middle-aged gentlemen (2 of whom owned this Free House), business was brisk when we arrived on this river-side inn. Each of the 4 were giving of their all to serve their guests and answer any queries thrown at them. As the evening wore-on and folks went home, the residents took-up their tables – to everyone’s surprise, we thought the chefs appeared to have left with the local drinkers – no food appeared! The guests became ‘challenging’ but after an hour, plates of food appeared to the applause from the tables. Most were cold or a wrong order but it was difficult to cast raw criticism at the sole last member of the 4 gentlemen to survive. Clearly a busy day with no support from the indifferent agency cooks. Breakfast, the next morning, presented some concern as the occupants of 6 rooms came down the stairs. The agency chefs had long gone but an excellent buffet was to the credit of our 4 hosts. Scurrying to every call, every effort was made. As first downstairs, we cannot deny that we didn’t enjoy the ‘banter’ from the 6 tables; repartee at is finest as our gentlemen from the previous evening were back on duty.Whatever the temporary problems for the 4 gentlemen, the ethos, repartee, good humour of the King Head’s clientele whether from Oxford, London, Bucks or wherever, gelled and fun was had by all. Keep putting it together you 4 cavaliers you’ll get there.

Visited today for lunch, if you are after cold skinny fries and dried panini this is the place to go! On the menu it said the panini was served with a dipping sauce, sadly this didn’t arrive with either of the panini we ordered. Skinny fries were cold and we were the only people eating at the time. I think they are advertising for a chef, hopefully they find one soon!

We loved the location and the pub but whether the hotel had staff issues I’m not sure but the service could do with improving. Evening meal took a long time to arrive ( not an issue to us but others maybe), we weren’t offered any specials however the food we had was great. It was a busy Friday night and the waitresses were Friendly but using one more may of helped ease the pressure on them.No information about anything was provided at check-in, this was also commented on by another couple we met. Room was fine although you can hear noises from other rooms so if you’re a light sleeper be warned. No cooked/hot breakfast was offered which was a disappointment with a long drive ahead. I don’t want to be too negative as we loved the little village and the location but a small improvement in service would really improve guests experience.

Just returned after meeting a friend for Lunch, we both had a medium glass of Pinot Grigio and a Pannini. When asking the waiter for the bill we said we wanted it splitting - he charged us £19.50 each. Shocked at how much it was we paid and didn't query but after driving home realised he must have charged up £10 for a glass of wine as the Pannini was £9.50. Very expensive, we won't be going again and this is local to us.

We chose to eat at this hotel as it was close to where we were staying. Obviously a lot of work has gone into making the place look inviting, the flower baskets outside were impressive. Inside is a nice homely space and staff were pleasant and polite. The menu has quite limited choices but the food was good, well cooked and nicely presented. Service was timely, wine was chilled, no complaints, it’s a nice place to eat with realistically priced good food. We’d certainly eat there again and would recommend.

Meal booked for 8.00pm, having waited and waited along with other tables I approached the owner/landlord at 10.00 pm, yes 10.00pm along with other diners, Said "he did know if or when we would receive any food" with a could not care less attitude. "....we are short staffed in the kitchen" no apology just a shrug of the shoulders...... stay clear of what was once a great place. So sad to have to write this but experience mirrored by a number of visitors to our holiday cottages. Now not on our recommended list!

Friends visiting from Stoke booked a table for us with 14 days notice. We were seated at the table by an excellent young waiter… then much to his distress, the ‘management’ (in inverted commas, as they appear to have very limited managerial skills) asked them to move us from the restaurant to the table by the gentlemen’s toilets… it was overflowing with empties, it had two customers sitting at it already, and we would have had to duck every time the pool players took a shot! OBVIOUSLY we were unhappy about the situation, definitely not the young waiter’s fault (bless him, he shouldn’t legally have been working after 7pm anyway!) so we took it up with the ‘managers’! Let’s just say, to summarise… they showed their incompetence with the booking system, they had no people skills and they were totally disrespectful to ourselves who are local customers.Totally embarrassing situation in front of our visiting friends who had booked so far in advance.Thankfully, we phoned The Fat Lamb just up the road, and although they were full, they look after their local customers and managed to fit us in, and our evening was rescued!

I booked a room here back in June as I was attending a wedding at Eden Barn and this was the closest place I could find for two adults for one night and because we would be getting a taxi to and from the venue I didn’t want it too far away. When I received my booking confirmation I had booked two twin rooms instead of one so i immediately contacted the Kings Head via fb messenger and to explain my error and someone responded quickly and confirmed I only needed 1 twin as my friend and I were sharing. It was confirmed to me I now only had one twin room. Fast forward 3 months later we arrive to check in and no booking and no apology either. A system glitch was blamed however I suspect the person cancelling one of the two rooms I originally booked had cancelled them both. The person then proceeded to find us somewhere else to stay by using booking.com as they were fully booked. They found us a double room and told us it was only 8 miles down the road which was actually 11 miles further away from the wedding venue. I do not know the area and now we’re 17.5 miles away from the wedding venue. Then proceeded with the booking as we had no other option to trust this person and said oh just put your card details in to secure the room they won’t take payment but they did even though we wanted to pay cash but also what if we didn’t like were the alternative room was. After such a faff and cutting it fine for time and rearranging booked taxis at very short notice we made it on time for our taxi which now en route to the venue proceeds to tell us it’s £45 each way!!! To the venue. A £90 round trip. Which isn’t the taxi firms fault at all but the inconsiderate person who booked us a room 17.5 miles away from the venue.Mental note: don’t bother booking a room here.

As a party of six, across three generations and with a springer spaniel we booked in the spring to stay across this Bank Holiday weekend. I am astonished by some of the reviews I have seen written here, as I simply don’t recognise the problems described, so if your looking to book ignore them and try these guys out. We had four days, three overnights and enjoyed the food, the friendly and helpful staff and the comfortable rooms.Anything we asked for was attended to, promptly in consideration of just how full the pub might be at any one time. Please remember readers you are reading this as we come out of the most disruptive period for hospitality trading in the last 100 years, so yes we had to be patient, as everyone had, for service when demand is peak. We were always kept abreast of any serving delays, and our food was excellent at every meal. As a dog friendly establishment everyone went to the trouble of making us all, including the dog welcome, which was much appreciated as this was the first time we had ventured to a hotel taking her along.I cannot recommend this hotel/pub enough to those looking for a great stay, good service, good food and a warm welcome. This place is a little gem, however in the midst of a pandemic, and in a country with a huge shortage of staff in every line of industry and service, bring your patience, good humour and good manners with you, as everyone deserves to be treated well. We most certainly were.

Upon viewing the menu online I decided to book for the family to dine as menu looked very good. When we arrived and eventually seated a scruffy menu was given to us with a limited choice of small fish and chips, large fish and chips, selection of five choices of pie or a kebab ! Nothing like the menu I viewed online. After waiting 25 minutes to place order the food arrived 35 minutes later and was missing half its contents and no cutlery to eat with after asking twice. Food quality was extremely poor and tasteless and i would not recommend to eat in this pub. I feel very sorry to post this as the hospitality industry has suffered greatly in the past year but the level of quality and service was so poor I felt I have had to do so. A complaint was made when paying the bill and a reduction was made but overall a very bad experience and would not recommend to anyone unfortunately.

We booked for Sunday lunchtime and were told we could pick our time (other than 1pm) as they were not very busy. We arrived on time at 1.30 and it was immediately clear this was a business in trouble. First an extremely long wait for menus to be provided and drinks order taken. Then we were told there was only a limited menu - it was extremely limited and not good quality when the food arrived over an hour after ordering. We appreciate the hospitality sector are struggling to fill job vacancies at the moment but despite this we could not recommend this establishment.

We were staying in Ravenstonedale and thought we'd"risk" a meal here. The reviews are terrible but we thought the food looked more down to earth than the more higher end food at the Black Swan which we know is outstanding. I would ignore all the bad reviews. The place was full and the attentive staff made us feel welcome and were always about to help. If not, get off your backside and nip to the bar to ask for service. They fell over backwards to help. The food including the chicken pie and fish and chips were super. Loved the jacket on fries which were healthy oven baked. A warm friendly atmosphere with lots of satisfied customers throughout the pub. Our food came within 20 minutes in a packed pub. Would thoroughly recommend.

We were happy with our room and the comfort and the pubs lovely setting. However!I’ve just read the other most recent reviews of the food and our experience was exactly the same. Shambolic service, food poor when it actually arrived from a very limited lunchtime menu but there for dinner! Ordered a fish skewer, supposed to contain cod, salmon and prawns. No cod appeared and the prawns were the size of tiny shrimps as they had been crucified and were completely inedible.Sat down at 7.15 and the food came at 8.50. It was a total disaster. Our advice, stay by all means but eat elsewhere. The staff were pleasant but completely inefficient. We felt sorry for them so decided not to complain but the Management must be aware of the situation. We assume they can’t find any staff but close your restaurant as it’s simply not good enough!

Our Saturday night experience you couldn’t have made up after booking the reservation over 10 weeks ago.We arrived 15 minutes early with no initial acknowledgement until we forced a lady to talk to us and she then proceeded to tell us ‘ you are too early so could you possibly go away?.’After saying we would have a drink before being seated that sent her into total panic but the gentleman behind the bar managed to squash us onto a table which was too small for the 6 of us.We then had 20 minute wait to order drinks…which took forever to arrive …...no menus were offered.….when we asked for them a lunchtime menu was brought,,,..we then caught a waitress to be told very embarrassingly ‘ that is the menu being used excluding sandwiches’……no wonder she dashed off……NO starters……NO deserts,…. and a choice of 3 items…..Pie fish or kebab…….not exactly what we expected for a Saturday night out family celebration. The staff were just dashing around and the atmosphere was stressful for us to even be in so a second order of drinks was almost impossible! Finally our food order was taken…..hurrah….but no…..a waitress appeared again saying there was no ‘‘ Kings ‘ fish left (large portion with inclusive sides) could we change to the basic fish and chips.Within a few minutes the stressed and flap-able lady appeared stating there was only ONE fish now left……so could we reorder one meal….what a joke! The food finally appeared but how they dare even serve it I really don’t know. The pies had been microwaved and only partially warm (obviously a supermarket brand) and they were served on a bed of packet mashed potato or chips…..the chicken kebab and chips were stone cold so we returned and asked for a fresh one (due to reheating chicken) when this reappeared what a joke only half a skewer filled with a couple of pieces of chicken and a chorizo. The fish kebab was raw salmon raw green pepper and raw red onion…..it had SO obviously been forgotten to even have been put under any heat……once we showed the stressed lady I think even she was dumbfounded! They must know they are having huge issues and I cannot understand why they are misleading customers with previewing a full evening menu and ‘fake’ pictures of meals on their website when the very least they could do out of courtesy is contact customers with reservations to inform them of the non existent choice. This is the owners livelihood but whatever the issue is I would suggest they remove the food option until such times they can sort their kitchen/staffing/menu issues out and just concentrate on serving drinks and improving their all round customer service as it is so embarrassing for the staff on the frontline…..let alone for customers. We now are laughing at our experience as it was worse than any Fawlty Towers episode with the flappable lady mirroring Bazil!

Booked a table, turned up but didn’t have our reservation when we got there. Took half an hour to even get a menu! Then we tried to order food, they didn’t have hardly anything available on the menu, then when asked to make some changes to dishes we ordered they couldn’t accommodate (couldn’t even put cheese on some chips). Once we eventually ordered our food the waiter came back 10 minutes later to say that there was even less on the menu, so that meant we couldn’t have anything of what we wanted to eat, so we decided to drink our drinks and leave. Over all we were very let down and disappointed with the whole experience, they should of let us know when we first got there that there wasn’t anything on the menu or even better not opened the kitchen and took our booking if they can’t provide the food that’s on the menu apart from 3 dishes.

I can’t be bothered detailing our experience attempting to have a meal here today. Frankly, I doubt anyone would even believe me, as it was a total shambles from start to finish. All I will say is they are clearly having problems. Whether it’s staffing, post lockdown or something else, I don’t know. But I genuinely hope they get their act together, as it’s a lovely country pub that I’ve enjoyed in the past. But it is so tucked away, it has virtually no passing trade and relies on people going out of their way to make a point of going there. Judging by the most recent reviews it’s clear we didn’t just catch them on a one off bad day either.

In the course of 90 minutes, I did all the work! So much so that I should really have got the tip. There was no evidence that the people in charge had any experience of running a pub at all.I fetched the menus after we remained unacknowledged for 15 minutes. Another 15 minutes later, I went to get drinks from the bar. A further 15 minutes after that, I went to get water and glasses. Around 75 minutes after arrival, a profoundly inept member of staff came to see if we'd had our food. Empty place settings and unused cutlery should have offered a clue. She disappeared but never returned and about 15 minutes after that, at 10pm, we decided to call it a night. An apology amounted to a wafty hand, a mumbled 'sorry' and the price of the drinks I had fetched for myself from the bar.If I were you, I wouldn't risk it. The experience of nextdoor tables was very similar.

She never returned undoubtedly saying 'b**tards no tip after we left!!' Please do not attempt to have a pie in this establishment.
