We stopped here for dinner whilst visiting Usk for the weekend with friends. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. It’s a beautiful pub and full of interesting things to see. The portions were massive and the service exceptional, especially Darcy, she was fantastic. We would definitely visit again. Thank you so much for a great evening!

A warm, inviting country pub with real fire. We ordered a beef roast, 2 pork roast and 1 fish. The veg and gravy were excellent but the beef was very fatty and chewy, the pork very dry and mostly fat. There was no crackling. The battered fish was greasy but the young waiting staff were very good. Not sure I'd drive 50 minutes to eat there again.

Can't comment on rooms as we only popped in for a meal after our wedding at the local registrary office. Staff were great and couldn't do enough . Not being from the area we chose this purely on reviews, and honestly we couldn't have asked for more. Decent size portions and everyone said how nice the food was. If we're in the area again we will be coming here again.

If you are looking for a 10/10 Sunday Roast this is the place to visit. The staff are very friendly and attentive and make you feel like family on every single visit. The vibe is relaxed and warm and inviting on every visit. The Sunday lunches are consistently excellent, from large portions of carvery meat choices to fresh hot veg and loads of tasty gravy. We’ve been coming every Sunday (as often as possible) for the last two years and we haven’t once had less than a 10/10 experience. The team we know are Ronan (sorry if it’s Ronin?!!) Darcy, KD and Sam. Ronan is professional, friendly, attentive and welcoming, Darcy is also friendly, thoughtful and remembers custom food orders and sauces and knows instinctively when and what we want to order. KD is friendly and attentive too and happy to encounter also. Sam the barman is friendly, witty, attentive and a welcoming face on every visit also. He takes pride in presenting a bar that is organised and ready for some banter! - I’m not sure who manages the King’s Head - (maybe it’s Loretta I’ve heard) but the leadership that produces such a winning team is amazing. We feel valued, welcome, entertained, respected and looked after on every single visit. If this review seems too good to be true then check it out yourself. After years of eating out for Sunday Lunch this place ticks all the boxes and consistently scores 10/10. You will not be disappointed with the amazing service, the exceptional fresh food cooked to perfection and the “Olde Worlde” feel of a hundreds of year old Tavern that is cool in the Summer (the old stone thick walls) and the big open fire in Winter making it warm and cozy. After over 50 visits I thought I owed it to this amazing team to leave a review!

Celebrated a colleagues birthday by having a meal at the Kings Head. We we're not disappointed. My Rib Eyed Stake was cooked to perfection, and I ordered a portion of mushrooms and garlic bread. Well, the portion of mushrooms I ended up sharing with my colleague as there was such a large portion, likewise wise, was the Garlic Bread (I kept that all to myself) Mark my colleague had the chicken curry that was delivered with a large portion of rice and separate bowl of chips. I know Mark likes his curries with a bit of 🌶 taste, and this was up to his liking to. The menu is very good with something for everyone to enjoy, plus there are the specials of the week chalked up on the Blackboard. The bar and restaurants are full of character, just like an old Coaching Inn. It is my type of place to be at ease and relaxation. The Bar has a great selection of Beers, Wines & Spirts to choose from. Finally, the Kings Head is situated in the historic town of Usk. The Hotel has accommodation for those who wish to stay with a FREE car park across the road. Oh' I forgot to say that the staff were very polite and helpful. Would I return back to the Kings Head? You bet it has quality's you rarely find these days .

This pub is great Slightly old fashioned, Great ambiance, great staff Choice of food and drink etc. The food is amazing, We went a few times as some of the eateries were either closed or poor quality. Lasagne, steak pie (OMG the steak pie) the fish fish, the sides. Looking at what other people were eating it all looked amazing and the prices were very reasonable, I would argue slightly cheap… 10000% recommend

We haven't been to the kings for some time so we thought it's date night why not. On arrival the put looked a little tired including a bench at the front that half the seat was made up of osb board. Obviously that half was damaged . The entrance had a bed strong smell of paint.. We were shown to our table that the table top was rocking back and forth where it was fixed we'll sort if fixed to the base. Misses had fish and hips I had chicken curry half n half. Misses said her fish was very watery and didn't taste of anything chips were v pail but the peas were v good 🤷. My curry was a v good portion with loads of chicken and it had a kick to it as in the menus. Unfortunately the curry sauce was like water and all you could taste was the hot kick. My chips were ok though 🤣 The waiter was super polite and very professional. Needless to say this was a reminder as to why we haven't been there for so long. Won't be rushing back.

Terrible romantic meal with my wife on her Birthday yesterday at this establishment. Ordered their house burger which to be honest in itself was just a plain roll side by side with a beef burger and bacon with the biggest lump of melted cheese you have ever seen chucked on top but this was not the issue which was an uncooked Burger with blood coming out of it at one stage I thought it was going to jump off the plate and stand in line ready for milking as so raw. I discreetly mentioned to the bar man who I have to say is the only polite and helpful member of staff there I spoke to. He went and notified the chef and came back and apologized and said " We will not charge you for the new meal when it comes back out", by the time it came out my wife had finished hers so we both ended up eating alone. There was no apology from the female waiter when the plate was returned to the table. Once I finished I was then told I would now be paying the full price.I asked to speak to the manager who then informed me " Well as you finished eating the returned meal you would pay normal price" another plate of food from another table was taken back into the kitchen. After arguing my case she reluctantly agreed to knock £5 off but after stating you should be checking food before it leaves the kitchen I ended up paying half price for a substandard meal that we could have sat on different tables as certainly did not have a romantic meal watching each other eat ours in turns. I found the manager very rude and not once did she apologize as the only one came from the Bartender. If you want an uncooked substandard burger with no apology then the Kings Head in Usk is for you.

A group of 12 had a fabulous meal at The Kings Head, Usk on Sunday 21 April. We preordered our meals and were requested to be seated at our table by 5pm in order for our meals to be served at 5.15pm. A variety of meals were requested, veggie, roast dinners, fish and chips and served promptly on hot plates. The portions were very generous and the meals were delicious. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was warm and friendly, although our group may have been a tad noisy - but very happy. It’s evidently a very popular venue as more people were arriving as we were leaving. Highly recommended. We will definitely return.

Called to book, advised we would have a pram with us. Arrived and had to complete an obstacle course to get to the table which was situated next to stairs. Where was the already advised pram meant to go? Food arrived in a timely manner. Not bad, however the portions distract from the taste. I wasn't sure whether to eat it or climb it but unfortunately I forgot to bring my walking boots with me. Quantity over quality. The cherry on the cake was being refused the opportunity to change my son's nappy as the changing facilities are situated in the ladies toilets. I'm sure they would receive complaints should a baby be screaming in the restaurant from other diners but I was told by the manager that she wasn't comfortable with me entering the ladies toilets to change his nappy. I asked if they could check it was empty and guard the door to advise ladies that a man is changing his son's nappy which would take all of 2 minutes. I was told I had to get a woman to do it. Luckily my sister was with me who changed him. What if I didn't have a female with me? Was I meant to ask a random lady from the restaurant? Was further fobbed off by the manager after explaining the law in that changing facilities (If available, and in this case they are) must be accessible to all so my original suggestion of a member of staff standing and advising other diners would be fine. Was told the building is listed. What that has to do with a plastic shelf bolted to the wall I will never know. Waited 20 minutes for a handwritten bill. If I was you I wouldn't bother.

Myself, my partner and our Auntie had dinner here last Saturday (Dec 10th). Our pre-order had been misplaced, but the two lovely young ladies who looked after us couldn't have been more helpful. We were able to have what we wanted anyway, and the food was lovely. The food was all nicely handled, everything was cooked well. The generous portion of beef topside was still nicely pink, the gravy clear and glossy. The simple veg was all fresh and cooked perfectly. The pub itself, or at least, the main room, is a traditional old fashioned pub, with a huge roaring log fire, paraphernalia dotted around that feels like it's been there for decades (in a good way), with cosy atmospheric warm lighting. What stood out though were the staff: they were friendly and warm; and welcoming; and professional and attentive without being intrusive. We go out for birthdays a couple of times a year, and always try somewhere new. Not any more. This is our second visit, and we will be back next time. Thanks for a lovely evening. Merry Christmas. X

Tend to frequent the Kings Head every Sunday for drinks. I have a small dog and this place is dog friendly so it’s convenient. This Sunday we decided to eat Sunday lunch at around 4pm. We were told we couldn’t sit at the table with three chairs as it was reserved however we were told we could sit at the table in the corner suitable for four people, adjacent to another table for 2. We ordered our food/drinks which was quite enjoyable. We ordered more drinks and at 5pm the waitress approached our table for what I believed was to take an order for our dessert. How wrong could I have been…instead of asking if we wanted dessert we were told the table was required for a party of 6 and a child. We were not given a choice we were unceremoniously moved to a table in front of a roaring fire(reason no one wants to sit there.) When I explained we hadn’t ordered dessert yet we were told we could do so at the table we had been moved to. Never had this done to us before….outrageous! I know times are hard but forcing customers to play musical chairs to serve more customers, and asking us to move after one course is not acceptable. The waitress was very patronising and officious which didn’t help. Haven’t played musical chairs since I was a child and even then I didn’t have to pay for the privilege.

If I could give a zero rating for this place I would. Firstly, the best way to deal with customers who are rightly dissatisfied with their meal is to listen and apologise. However the staff at this pub have no sense of customer service abilities. The very old guy who believes himself to be a form of manager said he wouldn’t accept my feedback as he had eaten it himself the previous day. Furthermore, he charged for 2 separate meals which were both sent back due to them being bland, disgusting and containing uncooked scraps of chicken. Following our feedback, the manager stated that we should not return as they couldn’t accommodate us. If you wish to have an opinion and an enjoyable experience do not eat here, as you will be dismissed and verbally abused.

Went a couple of weeks ago for a dinner. There was a veggie option of lasagne or something like that but I like to have a Sunday dinner with loads of veg if it’s on offer. The portions were huge to be fair and the meat eaters were all satisfied. For me however the veg was totally tasteless, not much good when that’s all that is on your plate. Other dishes may be ok here but don’t ask for a roast if you’re vegetarian. They gave us all a huge amount of boiled potatoes which seemed to go to waste as quite a few of us didn’t want them. They would have been better off giving everyone a couple more roasties. On the plus side, the staff are absolutely lovely.

We stopped of for lunch in Monmouth on our way to south Wales. Although there were several cafes and restaurants offering fish and chips, pasta and pizza, we fancied something different. Places serving Thai or Indian cuisine appear only to be open in the evenings and we had nearly given up on our search when we came across the Kings Head.

One of our favourite destinations, always feel welcome, the food is excellent, portions are generous, service is very good and all this at a very reasonable price. Has to be one of the most relaxed pubs/restaurants in the country.

We had heard good reports of the food and we we not disappointed! We ordered the fish & chips with mushy peas and the grilled cod with tomatoes and peppers. The portions were huge and were beautifully cooked and well presented. My fault, as I assumed the tomatoes and peppers would be a sauce and they were just grilled (never assume!), but a sauce would have been nice. We could not fault the food or the service and look forward to our next visit. Good value for money.

3 generations of family went here for Sunday lunch. As always those of us who had the traditional Sunday lunch were not disappointed. That, however, could not be said for the vegetarian option. One of our family had the stilton and vegetable crumble which came with boiled potatoes and seasonal veg. Well as meals go it was like comparing David and Goliath. Considering the size of our Sunday roast, i thought this was very disappointing. The crumble itself was, in my view, more than a little on the small size. There wee 3 small boiled potatoes with it and what looked like a garnish of salad. I was not impressed and it wasn't even my food. That being said, apparently it tasted really good. Just a shame about the portion size, especially given the size of the Sunday roast. Good job I'm not a vegetarian! On a plus, as always the staff and service were great and i don't doubt that had the person asked for more potatoes they would have been given them but the crumble is the main dish and it quite simply not enough no matter how delicious.

The pub is in a great location overlooking the river, the decor is cosy and relaxing. We were in town for a festival and spent a lot of time in there between bands. The staff are very pleasant and the beer is ok, The food is pretty basic and boring, standard options and tasted bland. I would go there just for a drink and eat elsewhere

This is such a great pub. Decent food. Friendly service. Lovely building. Cosy in winter and loads of space in summer. Walked to the pub for lunch and it was great. A shame they don't do Wye Valley Nightjar any more - a much better stout than Guinness and local.
