We have been going to kings for a number of years now and untill recently have always liked the roast beef dinners. But on the last three visits i have noticed a steady decline in quality and portion size. Specifically the beef was tough, Ive had a job cutting it even with the sharp knife they supply. And the roast potatoes too are not like they were. They are too large and have what seems a very tough outer skin which again is hard to cut. Let alone eat. We probably might look elsewhere to eat .mabe give kings less visits.

I regularly go to Kings at Sidmouth for lunch with friends andcsm always happy with every aspect. I expected the same with the Exmouth branch. Unhappily every aspect was exact he opposi. My husbands roast was dry, he said it reminded him of school dinners he had in the 1960s, I had a meal I have often had at the Sidmouth branch but it was very different, the chicken was tough and the sauce glutinous to say the least. The chairs were uncomfortable and although the table had just been cleaned one if the chais was covered in food. We won’t be going there again.

Popped in with my elderly neighbour for coffee. She loves it here, I've never been. Decor - pine cladding, suspended polystyrene panel ceiling, dark green carpet, brown plastic chairs. Might appeal to someone, not sure who. Her fruit scone, apparently very nice. My plain scone, disintegrated on slicing, had to mix the crumbs and cream with a teaspoon, strange taste which 2 hours later is still lingering. Cake selection looked good. I didn't try any but the portions are small. Still, I'd rather that than higher pricing. Service. Plenty of staff, badly deployed. I'm sure with better systems (any system) it would be possible to get everything done without the queue reaching the door. I stood waiting for my hot drinks to be made, then we were asked to sit down while someone put a cold scone on a plate. Every one is making coffee. Two people were trying to fix the milk machine. Well, one fixing one watching. All quite frustrating. It doesn't need a massive injection of cash to make any of this better, just some proper leadership.

The Café is in a garden centre on the edge of town with some outside seating. Most staff are pleasant but one older man seemed happy to ignore customers & only serve when he really had to. Coffee quite good. Good selection of cakes & meals. Price below most other cafes in Exmouth.

I go to Kings a lot. Today with a friend we had what are normally very nice cheese scones but they were almost impossible to eat. We needed a knife and fork as they were so crumbly and certainly not made correctly. We couldn’t even spread the butter as the scones just crumbled. The table behind had fruit scones and were having the same trouble . Perhaps you could check out who made them that day as they weren’t right. Also could you get some cushions for the very hard plastic chairs. Sorry to complain but I’m sure you would like to know if things aren’t up to your normal standard.

I visited and had a coronation chicken sandwich and it was not great, huge chunks of chicken loads of sultanas extremely runny coronation mayo. Awful to eat. It would appear that there was no thought or consideration from the person making the sandwich. Staff on the counter very friendly mostly. Nothing is too much trouble and I have found they go out of their way to be helpful.

What a disappointment. Range of plants I suppose are average much better selection at other Garden Centres in Devon. But it is the staff. So rude. Obviously they do not want to be there. Just very unbothered and service at tills is not met with smiles or acknowledgment. We are a bunch of lovely older friends who love gardening. There was 1 staff member in particular. Very unpleasant. Short dark hair is all we can say. But, should not be allowed to serve people with that attitude. We were not going to say anything as it was a month or so ago. But, management really need to sort their staff issue out. I see there are quite a few reviews about the same thing as well in the Cafe. Shame

We went especially to talk to Sue, an employee about garden furniture. It was our first time & we had no idea of what to expect. Sue was knowledgeable and honest, letting us try all of the products and make up our own mind before mentioning discounts. In the past I would have given 5 *. This time the food was ok chicken and bacon salad. The cafe was quiet. The reason for 2* is simply the interaction with one of the servers. He interrupted our conversation by trying to start to talk to us during which he continually stretched his genitals.

Visited today with son, dog and elderly parents. The garden centre itself had a wide range of products and a good selection of plants. We went to the cafe to grab something to eat and a drink. Serving staff very friendly and welcoming. 3 pasties; vegan cauliflower and chickpea pasty was delicious but the meat pasty wasn’t a traditional Cornish pasty, more minced meat and potato and quite sloppy, so not great. Dogs are allowed in the garden centre but not the cafe. I appreciate not everyone likes dogs but the cafe is fairly big, couldn’t a section be put aside as dog friendly tables? Dogs allowed in outside seating but steep steps and very little cover from the drizzle. Could there be covered seating outside on level area at least or better cover on the top seating? I’m sure this would make your visitors with dogs much more likely to spend money in the cafe. Mixed visit today hence 3 stars.

The tables were clean and quite well distanced and the place was airy and pleasant, not cheap by any means but a lot on your plate! Coffee was good as were the cold drinks! We visited the cafe for lunch and we were served by a member of staff who looked liked she was having a bad day. No smile and decidedly frosty! We regularly visit and the staff are usually lovely and friendly. We didn’t recognise this person, so maybe she was new. Once we reached our table, we realised we had been over charged for one of the meals. My sister returned to the counter to again be met with the same unfriendly attitude. No apology for the over charge and in fact still not given the correct amount of over charge but decided to let it go. One other point to mention is, that during our meal a member of staff came round to each table with a tray with cakes on, placed it on our table and asked if we would like to purchase them. I’ve never had a problem with this in the past, however this should not be carried out at present due to COVID.

We went to Kings for lunch today and were both absolutely horrified at the lack of safety measures for COVID 19. People were queuing - NO masks Staff serving - NO masks Only one small piece of Perspex along the queuing area where you pay The tables were all very close together. I was almost shoulder to shoulder to the people sitting behind me. The water machine is surrounded by three tables, two of which were so close they were actually touching it so diners sitting there had everyone who wanted to use the machine, which were quite a few, breathing all over them. The waiters and waitresses obviously have to lean right over the tables and customers when serving the meals. I know it would be very hot for them to wear a mask but surely that would be better than catching/spreading the virus! Totally irresponsible

Since our last visit part of the restaurant has had a refit, which is nice and has a modern feel. I would recommend larger and clearer writing on the menu boards. The food is nice for a garden centre. Whilst they have created a one way system around the building, in the actual cafe i felt that more tables should have been taken out to create the 1m+ at tables. Where we sat we could quite easily touched the people on the next table to us in the middle section of the cafe or maybe implement plastic dividers. Whilst it isn't compulsory for staff to wear face visors, I think this would protect the staff. The one poor waitress was trying desperately not to come close to whilst serving us by tilting her head back. The way that you are served at the tills. I think this could be re thought out post covid. The lady next to me in the queue ended up, right by the side of me as staff were pushing the trays down to take more orders. Impressed that the table are wiped down and chair after use. Just a few tweaks and it would fine.

Because of covid they have had to move the entrance. I appreciate the need for this but unfortunately no provision has been made for the disabled. To reach the entrance you have to negotiate a steep slope and this is not possible for people who have mobility problems. As there was no obvious disability entrance I went in the front door. I was pulled up by a member of staff for using the wrong entrance. I explained that I was disabled and could not use the other entrance. She just repeated that I had used the wrong entrance and gave no indication of how I was supposed to get into the shop. As I was already in the shop I carried on to the restaurant where the staff were friendly and the lunch was excellent. Before covid we were regular visitors to the garden centre but after today we will not be visiting again as disabled are clearly not welcome

I ordered the steak and mushroom pie with veg and it was very nice, and other members of the family enjoyed their lunches too, my sister had bubble and squeak with egg and ham she enjoyed hers. However my niece ordered the pate and unfortunately this was off and I'd say by a couple of days, it smelt like the smelliest of cheeses. However, they did offer to exchange it straight away but my niece is young (10) and it put her off, which is understandable, she had something else and they didn't charge for her meal. I would go here again it wouldn't let that discourage me as they dealt with it quickly, efficiently and apologetically.

Though I would also says that’s its downfall. Too much choice can be confusing and overwhelming, and though the food is good, I wonder if less variety of dishes were there, it would allow for better quality of cooking & prep. Although usually very busy the service is remarkably fast - and the food well cooked. The staff are friendly and efficient. How much of the turnover is 'garden' and how much 'food', I have no idea, but with probably upwards of 80 -100 covers, the food element must be the envy of many outlets specialising in food only. If I want somewhere that can guarantee well cooked food in a pleasant environment, I normally aim for Kings.

I would personally not call this a restaurant more like a very large cafeteria (it seats over 200 as food is fairly standard salads soups or meat and two vegetables., however the food is served by friendly and helpful staff. There was a nice choice of puddings and cakes to consume on the spot or buy and take away. Our party included a disabled family member and the disabled space for parking are excellent. There is enough space for wheel chairs & walking frames between tables which has been sympathetically planned. The disabled toilet and other loos are outside reach by a tarmac path under cover & are clean .We were advised by a family member to get there early as it gets very busy and not to sit under the atria of the roof as noise levels get high when busy, so not good for the hard of hearing. Our party enjoyed some prawn sandwiches, but some us had leek and potato soup which although nice and hot was tasteless - shame. The puddings were lovely the best was raspberry and apple sponge and custard.

The service was very quick and I loved that I could have a smaller meal with a discount and decided on the chicken curry which I have to say was the best I have ever tasted it was amazing. My mother had the ham cheese panini and loved how well it was filled and cooked she really enjoyed the coleslaw. Sadly I was way too full to try one of the amazing puddings on the board. I will be back soon maybe just to try the puddings. Great value great food well done

As I was at the garden centre getting my tomatoe plants I decided to grab something to eat. Wow talk about menu boards. Loads of them. I would say it was pretty highly priced but that certainly did put the hoards of people coming in.Ham egg and chips was £8 . I thought that was rather a lot. It's a very nice cafe all the same. If you can't find something you like on this huge menu then I would be very surprised.

We have had a very enjoyable lunch. As usual the staff were friendly and efficient. The only thing that could do with changing is the tables aren't given a good clean.

Lot's of choice, too much if anything.Any queue to get served is soon sorted, and food is delivered quickly.More a Cafeteria than a Restaurant, but you're eating lunch, not dining.

Good range of food for all tastes. Mum had an excellent mixed seafood salad, crab, prawns, smoked salmon etc. I had the roast beef. My request for no yorkshire pudding was carried out and I got the most amazing range of vegetables: carrots, cauliflower, green cabbage, red cabbage and swede as well as roast potatoes. Plenty of gravy in a boat. We arrived early on a Monday lunchtime and it was already filling up, but no queues. I suspect I got an early serving of roast beef as some of my beef was rather dry and overcooked, I think I may have had the first slices off the joint, but there was so much it didn't matter that much. Too full to consider dessert.Plenty of space around the tables so room for walkers etc. The plastic garden chairs were rather too low for the tables, but fortunately a nearby customer told me that there were cushions in the cupboard under the cutlery. I didn't notice a sign, which would have useful if we hadn't had helpful table neighbours.I also bought some excellent scones and saffron cake from the shop.

Staff are welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble. Huge menu. Small meals available. They will accommodate any request if possible. Eat in or out. Outside has just been revamped. Dog friendly outside. Highly recommend.

We occasionally buy food from here, eggs, cold meat etc.I recently bought a pork pie as it looked particularly tempting and pork pies are a particular favourite of mine for a snack lunch.Whilst the one I bought looked perfect it was probably the worst pork pie I have ever tasted. The pastry was for from being crisp, more like leathery and the thick underside was very under cooked - almost raw. The meat content was tasteless and poor in quality.I most certainly do NOT recommend this product to anyone wishing a pork pie snack.

Bit pricey for a garden centre but always good food and well presented. Always good service as well.

This place is just up the road from the out-laws so we tend to come here fro lunch each time. Which is a great shame as I love the way mum-in-law cooks veggies. Oh well, back to the task at hand. So, a garden centre with a restaurant - not a novel idea and conveniently located - for the family that is, just outside of town.Food is decent and often a reasonable sized portions. Paersonally I like my veg so would happily have more. But the veg they cook tends to be more than just your usual simple fair - red cabbage for example. There is usually quite a few different veg on the plate, though the vegetarian optins are a little flat (but have veggie gravy). For the carnivores, the roasts look properly cooked and by all accounts are very tasty and plenty of it too. There are a good selection of traditional puddings too.Prices are definitely reasonable and the place is always busy (on a Sunday).Would we come here again? Bet you we will this coming weekend :-)

Kings garden centre really does serve lovely meals, the nurseries itself do some good priced plants & gifts. As a vegan I am pleasantly surprised to find they cater for me & it's a proper meal, not just the usual jacket potato. The nut roast is a great hit.

I visit most the time, the staff is very friendly and my mum works there. It's the best place in Exmouth to have a cream tea, not to expensive and the staff put loads of jam and cream on the plate.love this place will come with family when I can!!

Went to Kings today for Sunday Lunch. Well this place never fails The Roast Turkey dinner and the Turkey and Ham Pie were delicious. Plenty of it and piping hot. The food arrives quickly and well presented. As people have said it's very popular and gets busy but it's well worth the wait. The Menus extensive and gluten free options are available. The staff are always accommodating and nothing is too much trouble. Great for wheelchairs and plenty of room.

The only downside to Kings is its popularity! The cafe was really busy, but a roast beef dinner was well priced and tasty. Service good and quick, friendly staff. The menu is very large, its a bit hard to choose when in a queue when presented with such huge choice.

Staying in the local area we decided to meet up with other family members for an evening meal and catch-up. Knowing this pub does food from Wednesday through to Sunday lunchtime decided this would be a good place to visit. We booked and arrived just on opening time and was met with a very welcoming greeting by the bar person. Once we placed our order, in a very short space of time the starter course arrived, and on completion of this and table cleared, again the main meals arrived well presented and hot. The pricing was well within most budgets and with the specials board there is a good variety to choose from concidering the size of the village. Definitely on future visits this is a place on the list for food.

Great venue for lunch, always busy, good food at reasonable prices. Until today, prices have risen, the place was half empty, the food still good but not exceptional so why the price hike? My breaded plaice with chips, peas and tartare sauce was £16.99! It was nice enough, not outstanding and available elsewhere in Sidmouth for a lot less. If they want more profit and less customers I think this approach will work, we will think twice before returning as there are many other places to eat locally that offer better value for similar food.

We enjoyed our night at this well run, clean and friendly hotel. The three course evening meal was freshly prepared and delicious. Our room was spotless and well presented. We both are surprised this is only a two star rated hotel, as our experience exceeded many four stars we’ve stayed in. Our breakfast was again delicious. The staff are all attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. It has ample parking and a beautiful rear garden with seating. If we are in the region again, we would wholeheartedly head for The Tumbling Weir, Thank~you

We visited the Riveria for lunch today, our first visit for 8 years and I have to say that I was very disappointed. I ordered cod and chips at a hotel next to the sea but I was given a piece of battered fish straight out of the "Bird's Eye" mould and not freshly cooked as I expected from a hotel of some repute. This was nowhere near the quality I enjoy regularly from my local Wetherspoons!
