Kings Fish Resturant in Rochford

This place used to be great, but has gradually become worse, won't be going back. The guy doing the frying looks permanently miserable, no acknowledgement when we walked in from the 3 staff behind the counter. Waited 10 minutes for someone to actually take our takeaway order. Once home, found the fish and chips were both undercooked, the chips especially so. Threw the lot in the bin. Expensive rubbish.

We both had large cod chips mushy peas buttered roll and a wally ....the whole meal was absolutely spectacular . A really friendly lady served us , we also had a coffee each which was also extremely good . A exceptionally good dinner and would highly recommend eating here

Normally 10/10 for kings sent my son down for Father's day 4 portions, Cod sizes v small and chips were barely a handful with each portion v disappointed. be bit more generous guys .......

Had our first takeaway from here last night. Chips weren’t hot but the spare ribs were more like pork strips. Very big and tough. Not like spare ribs at all. The barbecue sauce was runny. Will not use again.

Really disappointing fish was over cooked and batter soggy and had strange taste, chips were cold as were mushy peas. Will not be ordering again from them!

For my birthday (03/04) I decided to treat myself to fish and chips from Kings, I used the Just Eat link for the first time and paid the £14.29. I received a text to say it would be with me at 17.15, by 17.40 I still hadn't receive my meal. At 17.54 I received at call from at carer at an address (Finchfield) around the corner from me, I live in Britton Crt, to say my order had been there for over 30mins. I immediately rang Kings to complain and was told "its not their problem" I need to contact 'Just Eat', I asked if they could give me a contact number for the driver of the company, I was told 'no we can't help with that, you need to go on the website'. I did not want to join 'Just Eat' it was a one off order, I tried every which way to contact them; I was met with a brick wall, the website told me I had to join, which I did, when I tried to complain, the website came back with 'no orders'. A week later and I am still trying to get satisfaction for my cold and inedible meal, Kings would not reimburse me and I still am unable to contact 'Just Eat'. I think it's despicable!!!

We went in today as you can now eat in. We have been buying take out during the covid crisis but it is so nice to go in and sit down. Hubby had the set meal, cod, chips,, roll and tea and I had the Cod bites with chips . Wow !! they are so nice, the batter is really light and the fish excellent. Hubby said he was great as always. We are so lucky to have this on our doorstep.

Just had takeaway fish and chips fish nice and fresh, chips must have been reheated over and over. Will not use this takeaway again

Pulled up outside and got someone to ask the manager for large haddock and chips as I can't get out due to being in a wheelchair He was quite arrogant and said I have to go in and collect it because either him or the 3 or 4 staff could not bring it 30ft out the shop Needless to say I would never use him in future The pug of a man

Probably the best fish and chips I have ever had! The fish and the chips were cooked perfectly and arrived hot. The traditional fish and chip packaging made it even better. Well done Kings!

Food delivered tonight . Pipping hot and was delicious . Cod and chips . Southern fried chicken pancake roll and curry sauce . Very honest on delivery times as in lockdown had takeaways saying half an hour and still waiting 2 hours later . Kings were spot on . Well done guys and have to say the best chips ever ,even got my crispy bits which o love . Will be ordering again . Thank you from a very happy customer

The sausage in the sausage in batter wasnt cooked. Pink and still had the gooey texture of sausage meat. Would not recommend this place based on this only. Could have made my family sick.

Picked up food and it was perfection but not knowing my son ordered it through just eat..we paid £7 over the odds! Didn't know Just Eat charged that much £20 order cost us £27.50! Won't ever use Just Eat again! Order direct people.

I regularly meet up with a friend in Rayleigh and we always eat here and been very satisfied. We were pleased to return a few weeks ago and as we like to have the skate we didn't bother with a menu. We were somewhat surprised when given the bill to see that the price had increased to £16.95. I appreciate that eating places have had a hard time and can't sit as many people but this place has a lot of regulars and it would seem they are being made to make up the shortfall.

Disappointed. Made a special journey from Basildon on Wednesday because it said online that it was open till 10, only to find at 8:20 a girl sitting on the window ledge which struck me as unhygienic, and a man telling me they only had what was already cooked and that they'd finished frying. No fish, just a couple of pies and a savaloy. So we went round the corner to another fish and chip shop and had the best fish I've tasted for months.

Just had our fish and chips delivered, it was exactly on time and as always cooked perfectly, in these uncertain times they are doing a brilliant job!!!

Had a really superb delivery this evening we had plaice cooked to perfection lovely light & crispy batter!!!!! My darling he was a happy chappie with his jumbo battered sausages& there curry sauce is to die for!!! Well done to kings for staying open and looking after us in such sad times !!!!! Grabbed fish and chips from what is usually a good chip shop, however - quality poor, small portions of cod thick batter and barely a scraping of fish (also overcooked batter) and thin pancake cod roe all batter and lacking in roe. a large chips that I would not even regard as a small and a side gherkin thick skinned and mush in the inside. Mushy peas small portion...won’t be bisiting in a hurry.

We had a takeaway delivery. Arrived on time and the food was excellent. Thank you Kings providing a great service to the community.

We are never disappointed when we visit this restaurant, great food and good staff. Best take away again served by brilliant staff.

They do a special for £8.25 of a smaller fish and chips, although it is plenty big enough, roll and butter and a cuppa. Their full menu is great but not extortionate. Best fish and chips for miles. Just wish they would give the place a coat of paint and brighten it up a bit.

What can I say. It was a Saturday night and 2 young girls serving at the takeaway counter were more interested in talking about the night ahead with their boyfriends watching the boxing. I then heard the both of them discussing that one of their fake eyelashes needing topping up whilst said eyelash wearer was rubbing eye with false nails to show friend how they coming out. Then to add insult to injury a customer came in and asked for fried chicken. He said he would be back in 5 mins and his chicken went in the microwave to heat up. What has happened to this place?? When I worked in catering we were not allowed fake eyelashes, long false nails, and talk about personal life went on behind doors. Will not use again and will advise against others using on a Saturday night

Visited Rayleigh to go to Rayleigh Hi-Fi - (WASTED TRIP) and needed lunch so chose here and it was a good choice. Lovely friendly waitress, good strong cup of tea, crispy cod, nice hot chips, tartare sauce and ketchup available and the price was very acceptable. If we need to come to Rayleigh again we will be stopping in here for a second visit!

These guys are good, the position on the high street as the best fish and chips is well deserved ( albeit the only fish and chips).

Kings is a great fish and chop shop, take away or you can sit in the restaurant. It is very busy at lunch time in the week as they have a great value set lunch. The main menu is reasonably priced too. My only teeny tiny moan would be that you only get a small cup of tea and not a pot but you do get free refill soft drinks. It's also licensed if you fancy a beer with your dinner which is always handy. The haddock is very tasty great batter and grease free chips and a reasonable price, perfect! The girls who work there are always busy but very friendly and great customer service.

The service was very friendly, it did take a while for the fish and chips to come but we were early on a Monday evening, about 5:45. Clean although a tiny bit dated, when meals came they were very nice and plenty to eat, would recommend, for casual dinning

Had pensioners lunch time special and had cod and chips, the fish was fine but the chips were dry and warmed up, so not a special.

Always beautifully cooked fish with light crunchy batter. Proper crusty rolls with real butter. Perfect chips. Best chippy in rayleigh if not essex.

Always good service. Always nice fish and chips! I often eat in, and the restaurant is good, staff friendly. Good sized portions and freshly cooked. Recommend Kings to everyone. Those new to the area come and try for yourself!

Basically the set up for collection really could do with some work, it appears no one really knows where the queue starts and people were queuing all over the shop...

Visited this restaurant with grandchildren and we were disgusted at the general grubbiness .

Had dinner here before going home and enjoyed Cod and chips for the two of us with a gherkin and pickled onion. A cup of tea each. Most enjoyable.

Ordered rock and chips. Have always eaten Rock so I am familiar with the taste. What I got I had to spit out. Tasted like ammonia and this generally means the fish could be off. Asked waitress to talk to chef and he said it was fine without even smelling it. Was not interested in my money back but it was not edible and therefore offer would have been nice. I think places should be inspected more regular because this clearly is not right.

Ordered a couple of large chips for takeaway. Very tasty but rather stingy on the portion size I thought? Seemed to be running low on chips which could be the explanation. Won't be coming again!!

Went for a mid week evening meal. The service was very good and so was the food. Good value. Waited awhile for the meal to be served but it was worth it. Will go back again.

Popped in here tonight, late with two children who should have been in bed and had a great experience. Service was good, food was lovely and reasonably priced. I've had takeaway from here before but fresh fish and chips in the restaurant was so delicious!

The minute you step through the door it is like a pair of comforting arms wrapped around you. Very special place serving top class fish & chips. Love it and will continue to make a 45 min car journey once a month to eat here.

We visit this lovely fish n chip provider most Friday evenings ... the menus have some great choices ..the chips are always hot and freshly cooked ... just as we like them ..all hot hot hot !! We will continue to visit because we are made welcome by the friendly staff and the food is always faultless why change when it’s this good !!

My wife and I decided to use the Restaurant part of this business for lunch. We went in and duly stood beside the doors awaiting a table. We waited for 10 minutes while the waitresses discussed tables and who wanted what. However, we were totally ignored. Even when they looked ion our direction they didnt even acknowledge that we were there. We were looking forward to eating in there but left due to their abysmal and rude service

Never disappoints. Excellent service and fish always fresh and good quality cooked in a very light batter. You can have it grilled if you prefer. Seafood platter as a starter is excellent but we often have it as a main for 2 as there is ample. The lunchtime special of cod and chips with a drink and a buttered roll is excellent value.

Ordered wing of skate - inside it was slimey - clinging to batter had to scrap it off to get to fish. Returned it to waitress who brought it back "saying if it wasn't cooked it would be red". I am 64 years old and have eaten skate many times - this was definitely undercooked! Also ordered a large cod and chips which was narrow, thin and tail end - not what we expected for a large cod - especially considering the price. Partner also asked for ketchup which never appeared. Over the years we have eaten here many times and been more than happy (with previous owners) but today it was awful and will not be returning.Only for it being Good Friday and not spoiling our day our I would have just returned fish again and left! Very disappointed.

My parents visit here at least twice a month. We came here on our way home from a day out .. Food was fresh and hot, plenty of it too. Reasonable prices too. Waitress very attentive and polite . My son loved it! Some places want you in and out on a Saturday evening, but not here. Wasn’t rushed at all, was nice and chilled . Would definitely recommend to friends and family ..

We ordered large cod & chips,fish was tasty but it wasn't cod,large cod should have fallen apart as pieces this looked more like flesh of plaice(which it was not) River cobbler perhaps?

Good food, if you want cheese burger and relish you have to ask for the relish or you don't get it, don't remember that before, been there a few times as well, older waitress seemed to want something for nothing, so she got nothing, otherwise enjoyed meal, will go again when different waitress is on,

While the fish in the restaurant was of a high quality, the middle of skate was about one inch across {a bit like a very long fish finger} The middle skates I have had elsewhere have been three times that width.

Came here Saturday lunchtime with family, so glad we booked a table! Service was friendly, welcoming and informative, skate and chips fabulous, lemon sole was incredible. I won't share the detail incase it's not normal practice but these guys went totally out of their way for us on Saturday and I can't tell them how impressed we were. A little bit of 'out of the box' thinking really carried a lot of weight with us....2 of our table of 4 are caterers and have never experienced customer service to that degree. I went for lunch today with friends. 2 of us ordered middle skate. My skate was extremely small at least 60% smaller than my friend's. I complained to the waitress but she didn't really care! First she told me to turn it over in case it was the wrong way up but after discovering that wasn't the case she was disinterested. My friend and I both paid £9.95 for our meals but I was definitely shortchanged because of the portion size. The cod looked lovely, I'd order that next time.

Me and my girlfriend just ate here, really lovely chips, will be coming back for more soon. Really cheap aswell for such decent food.

My dad loved his friday fish lunch - cod and chips!! Dad was terminally ill and they sorted him small pieces so as not to defeat his small appetite. It was the last regularly requested meal for him. I will always be grateful for the service we received. In happier times we often brought friends and family to the restaurant they are always so accommodating - my aunt over from Oz thought the fish she had (they grilled it for her) was better than The Boatyard meal we had!!

Whever I can I like to eat-in. The fish bites are great, chips are usually crisp and dry, not the soggy variety you get so much in chip shops these days. Shame that fish is even for take-away is getting so expensive, almost as much as going into decent restaurant.

We had a lunchtime special, and it proved to be excellent value. Service, quality of food and price was very good.

This fish and chip resturant is one of the best, the food is cooked to order and not lying around under a UV lamp so adding to the experience of the old fish resturant quality

For a day out as a family we had our dinner in Kings Fish Restaurant. It was clean and tidy and decorated very well.Staff welcomed us with smile and served us well, attentive but not over the top. Menu and prices are very good and portion sizes match. The food fish and chips we had was cooked fresh and tasted very nice. All in all very good and worth a return visit.

Have been here a few times now and each time the food and service has been consistently great.The cod specials are very good for the price and the medium cod and chips will leave you very satisfied.Can't wait for my next visit!!

Five weeks ago, I wrote how good Kings' fish and chips were. Went again yesterday and they were even better! Great batter on brilliantly fresh fish and superb chips. Somehow, Kings manages to improve on perfection!

Re: my last review of Kings.("A cup of tea let this down")The fish n chips were great as usual but guess what? The tea was great too. I have not visited Rayleigh for a while as I no longer live in the area, so when Mrs offered me Cod and chips I jumped at the chance. When she said to me "How about the Kings in Rayleigh, at first I had my doubts. Not about the fish but the accompanying tea I always have with it. Well! Slap me round the kisser with a fresh caught cod, You certainly turned it around with the tea. Great, a nice strong cup and a solid colour, unlike that wishy washy stuff you used to serve up. A great meal, a great tea, so keep it up as we will return and review again in the not too distant future.

If you're lucky enough to find yourself hungry in Rayleigh, Kings is the best fish and chips almost anywhere. We used the restaurant, but there is takeaway. Great fresh fish, brilliant batter - what more could you want? Treat yourself - and you'll never go anywhere else.

I visit Kings Fish Restaurant in Rayleigh about every 4 months when I visit my aunt and take her out for our Friday night evening meal. The food is hot, fresh and always of a consistently high standard.The staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble.Already looking forward to our pre Christmas visit!

This was the first time we had ever been here and have to say we will be going back. Great service from very friendly staff. Fresh fish & lovely chips although I had salad instead of chips. Great menus with plenty of choice not just fish. Licensed so you can also have a nice glass of vino or a short, beers or soft drink. Reasonable prices for first class food.

went on a Tuesday busy but no wait both had fish special 6.75£ for fish chips and a cuppa it was beautiful fish was amazing as usual I do like my chips a bit more cooked but they were ok and very hot definitely well worth it

I've heard all the hype of seaside fish and chips, Harry Ramsdens... etc etc ... But kings are the kings of fish and chips. Piping hot, fresh, lovely and crisp and amazing chips. Sit down in the back or take away it's always a treat. Just great!

I recently attended the restaurant with family & friends. The restaurant itself was very clean and presented well. The service was excellent giving us ample time to decide.The food was cooked while we waited. I had the fillet of sole which came on its own plate with a bowl of chips separately, of which I didn't expect. Excellent choice of mine.Everyone in the party enjoyed their food even our friends who came from Canterbury, Kent.Thanks again to all staff.

Simple, straightforward and OK. The menu was adequate and I selected fish and chips, which seemed sensible in a F&C restaurant.The chips had clearly been cooked for some time, but the fish was freshly cooked. There was that sort of floury barrier between the batter and the fish, which to me indicates that the batter was too thick as the fish was very well cooked inside.Decent cup of tea. I will go back, but won't rush back

It was ok - portion sizes are good for the money and the chips tasted nice. Maybe I went there on an off day but I couldn't get any flavour at all out of my haddock. It was meaty but lacking in flavour. I probably would give the place another chance though, but Chris' fish and chips are better I would say (albeit not as conveniently located)

The chips here are as chunky as they are crispy and my word I have never had such wonderful flavousome huge portions ... they say that size does not matter but that is not my opinion . Its a combo of both you grt here . Size and superb potions . Oh my god the fish is ace.... I just loved the massive succulent cod .. it was amazing !!!!

Having got fed up with expensive set menu's on mothers day the family headed to Kings for a more informal affair. We were greeted by a very cheerful waitress who gave us lovely service throughout. Great menu, a wide range from burgers to chicken to fish. My daughter of 11 had the kids burger meal and it was a great portion, not the tiny plate we come to expect! My day thoroughly enjoyed his sardines as well! Portions were generous (my dad described another diners large meal as "whale and chips!"), so generous we couldn't attempt dessert! For five people including drinks (my kids had unlimited lemonade to their joy) it was under £50 which is fantastic for a mothers day meal. There is definitely access for the disabled as an elderly lady in a wheelchair was enjoying her meal, and kids are made very welcome. Would definitely return.

not always best cuts of fish but is usually stunning and he will listen to feedback, the scallops are gorgeous , great range on the menu , for an indulgent lunch or a diet friendly one

It is a cafe style, with cosy decor - lots went for lunch here as they got a good deal - it looked all freshly prepared and appetizing and there is plently of seating, although it does get busy. Good service

It's unusual to see grilled, rather than just battered, fish in fish restarants so thought I would try it. The plaice and salmon were lovely and we'll presented. The sweets are wicked. Will definitely be going back. Re the question of takeaway customers not being able to use the toilets I can understand why. Takeaways don't usually provide toilet facilities, there are toilets outside plus allowing lots of non restaurant clients to use them would create a steady flow squeezing past restarant diners. Kind cooperative staff. Now on my list of best restaurants. .

Regular customer of Kings for 10 years but unfortunately no more. A great shame, best fish and chip shop in Rochford, great food. On purchasing what must have been my 100 + order this evening, upon asking if my daughter could use the toilet I was told no, for Patrons only?. To the lanky lurch promoted from car washing. Patron means paying customer.

Not cheap, but fish and chips are not cheap anymore these days.Very generous portions, good service, good quality freshly cooked fish. Alternatives to fish are available on the menu although I havn't tried any, it is a fish & chip resturant after all. A nice cup of tea that always goes well with fish & chips, but beer and wine available if you pefer.

poor tasting cod batter soggy, chips poor quality and very small portions wont be returning. such a shame as rayleigh could do with a quality fish and chip shop with good size portions.
