Waste of £30.Had a Christmas meal, prawn cocktail was OK,but very few prawns in it.Turkey dinner was terrible, Meat was very dry,a few roast potatoes, 2 tiny stuffing balls which were black. The veg came in a tiny bowl, mainly sprouts, few carrots, they were horrible. Had xmas pudding, more like a very thin slice of cake, with a brandy sauce,no taste at all.

Came here for an evening function. Arrived at lunchtime, had a very pleasant sandwich for my lunch of beef, mushrooms, onion and gravy. My room was in one of the bungalows. Very clean and spacious, ample sockets, walk in shower. Breakfast was good and included in the price which was 85. I thought this was great value. Ample parking, accessible throughout. Staff were fantastic.

Christmas party night - absolutely disgusting! Tightly packed in like sardines! Could hardly move. Waiters struggling to serve food as people trying to get past each other. I wonder what health and safety would have made of it? Good job there wasn't a fire! Meal was terrible, only one tiny bowl of veg to share between about four of us which was also tasteless! Had to get our own pudding which meant people struggling past each other carrying food! Never again!!

What an amazing place! Renown as a local wedding/ entertainment venue, the Kings Croft still manages to have a really nice hotel feel within the old part of the building which houses the bar. The sweeping staircase goes up to the bedrooms, ours was newly refurbished to a high standard. Loved the big stained glass window on the landing. We had dinner, having made a reservation when booking. A good selection of choices and they were happy to swap out the grilled tomato served with the grilled chicken, for fresh vegetables, which were perfectly cooked. We both had the apple and rhubarb crumble which came with ice cream and custard. Good portion of fruit and a lovely crunchy topping! All the staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive and we felt we were well looked after. Good quality beds and pillows ensured a good night’s sleep but we were at the back of the hotel and there was no noisy function on. Basic full English , cooked to order, was nice the following morning. Table serving but you got to choose your style of egg. Toast, juice and tea/ coffee were self service and not restricted. Overall good value for money and a great stay!

My son and daughter-in-law were recently married and had their reception at King’s Croft. It was fantastic despite the negative experience that we had of the reception venue. When we booked King’s Croft in Pontefract, we had expected them to add to the occasion, however we were mistaken. Given the time again we’d be giving them a wide berth and finding an alternative. The issues started with the unexpected relocation of our personal belongings, a breach of trust that exposed the lack of effective systems and security measures at the hotel. You can imagine our surprise to find our belongings, including sensitive items like purses, handbags and toiletries, shifted to another room after the first night without our knowledge or consent. As for the wedding reception setup, it was disheartening to find a lone attendant setting up the wrong room at 5:15am on the day. Later, despite returning 30 minutes early from the church, we were greeted with an unprepared reception room. It's a shame that potential clients visiting the wedding fair got a tour of our unfinished venue, while our own guests were left wondering about the disorganisation. Hygiene and safety were another concern. From a barmaid running the risk of glass shards in glasses due to mishandling ice, to extended periods of unattended broken glass on the floor. One of our guests even had an unwelcoming encounter with a staff member over a bowl of sweets at the very expensive chocolate fountain, which mysteriously disappeared early into the event without prior notice. To top it all, we noticed strangers helping themselves to our expensive hog roast, dirty cups and rooms, a dismissive Master of Ceremony, and an overall indifferent attitude from the staff. Our frustration continued further with the messy cake-cutting affair, which left some guests unaware and others disappointed. The drink package, at a pricey £19.99, fell short of its value and was late to be provided, leading to guests buying their own drinks due to delayed service. Regrettably, the special day now includes memories of cold food, rudeness, chaos, and personal intrusions that overshadowed the joy of the occasion. It is therefore with a saddened heart that I recommend to steer clear of entrusting King’s Croft with your special occasions. This sentiment was echoed by many present on the day, which felt more like a chaotic circus than a wedding. I still hope to have a discussion about these issues with the hotel, and patiently wait for their response to my several attempts at communicating with them. So, if you’re looking for a venue for that special occasion, then my experience would suggest you avoid King’s Croft and find somewhere more fitting. #WeddingReview #UnhappyExperience

Our family lost our 91 Yr old uncle and decided to use the hotel for the 3rd time in 2years. What a difference, prices were 50% higher but that didn't matter, food was very sparse which was a surprise after the 1st time we'd been a the food was plentiful. We catered for 30, 14 actually came and we were served a plate of open sandwiches and salad followed by another plate of sandwiches and a plate of cakes. It was admitted that food had been forgotten about and we got a reduction. I wrote a complaint as still paying £300 for 2 plates of sandwiches and a plate of cakes was very expensive. I was contacted by the owner who admitted they'd "messed up" but didn't apologise just asked what I wanted him to do. He eventually offered a meal for myself and my husband i decided to do a takeaway. We order 2 pizzas and fries. Pizzas had hardly any meat on and fries were hard. This was an opportunity to redeem themselves but instead it's made me write a review in the hope that other families aren't treat the same.

My husband and I have not had a great time recently and felt we would like a treat, ie afternoon tea at Kings croft. However I so wished that we hadn`t. Partly my fault, it did not occur to me when I phoned up to book that I should let the hotel know then that I do not eat meat. I had presumed that once we got there that there would be a menu with some choice around the sandwiches, but there wasn`t. My husband asked about a vegetarian option, but since we hadn`t told them when we booked then we had to eat what we were given. There was a selection of sandwiches, some with ham, some cheese and some cucumber, but all served on the same plate, wouldn`t have been too much trouble to have at least put the meat sandwiches on a separate plate! The afternoon meal was not cheap but for the savoury part there was only sandwiches, nothing else. We then had five small cakes each, I did have to wonder if they had been made at the hotel. This included one small rather dry scone, this came with cream but the cream was definitely not clotted cream, in view again of the price of the meal, was expecting clotted cream too much to ask. There was not even a serviette. Such a shame that the food was so poor as the setting of the hotel is lovely, pleasant atmosphere.

After reassuring my daughter that they could cater to her nut allergy and after paying for a mother's day lunch that was cancelled due to the lockdown, rescheduled, cancelled again due to another lockdown they now have said they cannot guarantee her food to be nut free when re-booking for a Christmas tribute dinner.Excuses ranged from insurance companies not insuring them for serious food allergies to the small size of the kitchen and finally their food suppliers not supplying nut free products. My daughter has eaten here for many years on occasion and they have always stated her food would be nut free...until now.To add insult to injury they wanted to give her another voucher instead of a full refund but what would be the point in that? she cannot eat there.Eventually we did get a full refund but anyone that has a serious food allergy please be aware that what they say on the telephone when booking might not be the same after paying and choosing your menu.

We chose to book a room here as our friends wer having their wedding reception and thought it would be easier and better than staying at another hotel that would mean getting a taxi.Check in was simple, we managed to find our room and wer shocked with how small the room and bed was. The bed wasn't very big, we only got 1 pillow each and they didn't have any spares in the room. And the bed was incredibly uncomfortable to sleep on. The en-suite looked quite nice-just an average bathroom. When I turned the shower on I was shocked at how little power the shower actually had. They also didn't offer any body towels-just 4 small ones. Had I been able to see photos of the room (they had photos of rooms but none that looked how ours did) I wouldn't have booked them as I don't believe it was worth £80 at all. The hotel a mile away was cheaper and a well known brand for if you have a bad night's sleep-you get your money back. Wouldn't stop here again and I'd urge people to look around at other hotels when staying in the area.

I've eaten here a few times and it's been hit & miss. Today's visit was a definitive MISS. I ordered the Thyme Roasted Chicken at £16 on a main. Utterly disappointed - chicken bland & basic no thyme flavour whatsoever, asparagus still raw, just zero flavour all round. - at £16 surely its not a big deal for the chef to treat the dishes with a little love & flavour? Upon leaving the venue, I could hear people entering and commenting on how much they loved the place and how good the food was. There is a definite culture of settling for average quality. And Kings Croft needs to up it's game.

We stayed here for 1 night. A Friday. Our bed was clean and comfortable, although the room was dusty with a few cobwebs. We booked into the restaurant for an evening meal. The room we were seated in was big with no atmosphere and only a few eating, maybe 8 others. The food was bland, basic and maybe scores 3/10. The food in Wetherspoon’s is far better. The ‘rare to medium’ Ribeye was chewy and ‘well done’! My hubby loves his wine, we paid £18 for a bottle of red, he was not impressed at all. He said it wasn’t even worth £5!! Breakfast was ok, but no choice just a full English, no cereal or fruit etc.The staff were all really nice. The best thing about this hotel without a doubt are the beautiful grounds. Seriously the hotel needs to up it’s game where the culinary experience is concerned.

We had dinner in Henry V111 last night ( Sat 22/05) to celebrate my parents wedding anniversary, we have been there on a few occasions and always enjoyed the food & service, sadly this was not to be on this occasion. The service was slow to say the least, we waited nearly an hour for our starters and when they arrived we were totally unwhelmed, especially with the garlic mushrooms which looked like thick glupey soup and served in a soup bow!!. But the biggest disappointment was still to come, the main courses. We were told after the starters that the main courses maybe slightly delayed to stagger the kitchen. When the main courses finally arrived, my daughter ordered the burger which on the menu does not state it comes covered in cheese, but served with bacon, we had cheese but no bacon, most of the group ordered steaks or the chicken n ribs, they looked as though they had been under the hot plate a while. The chicken was dry, chips hard and the steaks bland and boring. Lastly all the food ( starters and main) were luke warm. We did complain when asked how our food was and we were offered complimentary desserts but after 2.5 hours of waiting for food we had, had enough. It appeared the kitchen and/or the front of house team could not cope.

We visited the restaurant for a 50th birthday family meal. My partner and I arrived earlier in the day to add some decorations and the staff were very cold towards us, the tables were dirty and I had to wipe them myself. Prior to arriving I was told that we could have absolutely no decorations whatsoever on the table because they don’t want them to get dirty, the same tables that people eat and drink from...? When we all arrived for the meal the waitress was still very cold towards us. There were 11 of us across two tables but the meals came twenty minutes apart and a round of drinks was completely forgotten about, one of the meals came out still frozen in the middle and the rest of the mains were average at best (though the garlic mushroom starter was beautiful). The tills went down at the end of the night, it wasn’t anyone’s fault other than a server issues but it was managed very poorly. It was very late, 11pm, and we had two young children, but the staff wouldn’t let us go until they had ‘figured out’ what was going on. This took about half an hour and they gave little to no communication in terms of updates until two of us went over and told them we had leave. Overall an incredibly poor evening and what should have been a really special birthday completely ruined.

Arrived at this hotel at short notice after an alternative booking was cancelled. Compliments to the receptionist on arrival who was very attentive and welcoming in regard to our last minute booking. The hotel grounds and exterior are stunning - sadly this is not reflected inside. We were given an 'upgrade' to an executive double, and the decor was best described as eclectic! The door was not square of flush, meaning light from the main landing leaked in (and obviously sound proofing was not great). A similar situation for the window, there was a notice to say that the curtains were for decorative purposes only and to use the roller blind - except the roller blind also leaked light. If this was an executive double I dread to thing what the small and standard double were like? Our biggest complaint is with regards to catering. We arrived at breakfast on Tuesday morning and stated we were vegan so enquired what options were available (with no expectations). This seemed to send the waitress into a bit of a tailspin as apparently only a full English was available and she informed my partner we should have made them aware at check-in (having stayed in numerous hotels, this is not usually a requirement we've experienced and normally when you dine is when you notify). The waitress headed off to speak to the chef and returned to say that the beans had butter in the and the hash browns were cooked in beef dripping. After some back and forth discussion it was agreed to cook some separately without dairy and animal fat and all the other elements were vegan. We were provided with a seemingly appropriate vegan version of the full English (Hash browns, beans, mushrooms and two large tomatoes, plus dry unbuttered toast as they had no dairy free butter apparently). They had soya milk for the tea/coffee. We were happy enough with this on the first two mornings. On our 3rd and final breakfast we had a different experience. The waitress was on her own and 10 individuals arrived at once for breakfast (she did her best with a difficult situation and can't fault her but poor management to only have one person on). It took 25 minutes just to get our tea/coffee - the breakfast that came out soon after tasted and looked slightly different to our previous two breakfasts. We were suspicious and ended up leaving a lot of it. I am sat here now feeling unwell and I am confident that the breakfast we were served was not dairy/animal product free (no doubt butter in the beans and hash browns cooked in beef dripping). The catering staff clearly need further training regarding dietary requirements. I am a vegan but I am lactose intolerant too.

Booked for a funeral tea. We called in advance for reassurance of vegan options for 2 vegan bookings we had. Was told definately would be catered for. The sandwiches brought out were 2 slices of dry bread with prepacked salad leaves on calling them salad sandwiches. After commenting some asparagus and mushroom was cooked up with some nicer bread. This was our family members funeral and a really sad day where energy had to be wasted complaining about 'the chefs choice'of what he chooses to make on the day. In terms of the rest of the booking, we had over ordered by 2 and the sandwiches fully ran out. Very tight with what was made, no value for money especially being used on days where you don't want the hassle of having to worry about things like this. Guests left with none nutritious food and meager portions. Old fashioned place and attitude.

Looked at the website to see what they offered at lunchtime and was pleased to see they did a lunchtime menu with light bites as we did not want a large meal in the middle of the day. I rang to book a table.Arrived at the door and was unsure whether we should just walk in as there was no signage. We went inside but there were no staff about to tell us where to go, we hovered about for a while and eventually someone came and showed us to a table. We were given menus and our drinks order was taken. When we looked at the menu we realised we had been given the main meal menu. When the waiter returned with the drinks we asked if we could have the lunch menu only to be told they didn't do a lunch menu. We queried the information on the website to be told "Oh, it must not have been updated."From the moment we arrived things hadn't gone well so at that point we should have left. We didnt, we gave them the benefit of the doubt and we ordered fish and chips. Unfortunately when they arrived they looked nice and were well presented but the fish was tasteless, we both left well over half the portion. Disappointing, not only for the food but the whole experience.

My husband went to order a bottle of wine, but had to abandon his place in the queue as the starters had arrived. I have had veg curry here a few times previously and it has been lovely but this today was bland. It should have come with poppadoms but this time it didn`t just rice and curry. When I queried this when I paid the bill there was no apology. We did not get cutlery until after the food was on the table, I noticed that this was the general case for other diners. We managed to eat starter and main course in just 30 minutes, but then I had to queue for 20 minutes to pay the bill. It will be awhile before we go back here.

First of all I must conratulate Kings Croft on their food, excellent as usual. We have held 3 family functions (1 wedding and 2 naming days) here and they have never let us down. The atmosphere was good and the DJ played a good mix of music. Unfortunately the Abba tribute act let the evening down. We were seated towards the back of the room, so as the girls performed on the dance floor we could hardly see them and when people got up to dance they got lost in the crowd. Also very loud backtrack so although they were ok singers it was a bit like abba kareoke. Overall good night was had by our party but disappointed with entertainment.

I booked this on line as I wanted to ensure Sunday lunch at a specific time. We arrived 10 minutes early so wasn't suprised to be offered a seat while the table was prepared. It was a lost opportunity that we weren't directed toward the bar. 20 minures later, that's 10 later than the booking time we were shown to a table without any apology. This became the beginning of the buffet queue. People kept catching either the table or us and some of them didn't even have the manners to apologise. If it hadn't been so busy I'd have asked to move or left if I could have gone elsewhere easily. I orderd the Yorkshire pudding with onion gravey to start which turned out to be 3 standard yorkshire puds off the buffet in gravey, something I could have done myself at no cost. The mains Beef, Turkey or Gammon were overcooked as were all the vegetables. Meal over we went to the main desk to pay, but it's not here you pay but at the bar. May I suggest getting rid of the overlarge under used desk replacing it with a lectern type matre de point and created more space to reposition the tables away from the buffet queue. The decor is marque style. At no point did anyone enquire as to our satisfaction of the meal or service.

Very poor.3 crustless finger sandwiches per person.5 mini pre frozen deserts each served with them including a mini scone with jam and a jug of messy clotted cream.not served very attractively,no garnish on anything.Served with a pot of fresh coffee or tea.The coffee was the best part for me!The biggest let down was the sandwiches,2 slices with crusts cut off served as 3 fingers of which one contained just cucumber and nothing else, tho one was smoked salmon, the other being cheese.very poor!

Been here many times for meals and work nights out. When my daughter was planning her wedding, it was one of the first places we thought of for her venue. Was planned beautifully on site and Emma’s every wish was granted! Beautiful rooms, we booked bridal suite and guest rooms, beautiful grounds and excellent staff . Also , very reasonably priced compared to some local venues. The hog roast is amazing!

I spend quite a lot of time in 5 star hotels for work. I have to say the service at Kings Croft was up there with the best of them! They couldn't have made my mum's 90th Birthday weekend any better. Anything we asked for they accommodated and more, going over and above our expectations. The weather however, was not as kind and we had a torrential down poor just as we were about to leave the bungalows to go to dinner. Low and behold, a member of staff arrived with a brolly so mum didn't get wet. How lovely was that! Durring our stay we ate from the carvery, have to say, the best we have ever had. So all in all 10 out of 10 guys. Well done!

I want to start by emphasising that the Henry VIII Bar and Brasserie, in the King’s Croft Hotel, serves some simply delicious food within a pleasant dining room environment, within pretty parkland just off the Wakefield Road. My husband, two friends and I were greeted courteously upon arrival by the hostess/lead waitress, seated efficiently and promptly, and immediately asked what we might like to drink. “A glass of chardonnay would be lovely,” I said. I tried hard not to raise an eyebrow when my request was met with: “Yes, but red or white?” But that was just the smallest of introductions to the bizarre service encounter that followed. A few minutes later we all ordered our respective two courses and, within several more minutes, we were all enjoying delicious starters, drinks, company and ambience. It was when our main meals arrived that things really started to go awry... My vegetarian friend, who had ordered a vege ragout, was served up a rather sizeable beef burger. Now the burger really looked delicious... to me, at least, but not to my vegetarian friend. For a moment we gazed perplexed upon this un-ordered and very un-vege-ragout-like meal, but decided that, instead of causing delay and fuss, that I would swap my meal with my friend’s - as, whilst not being a vegetarian myself, I had rather conveniently ordered the vegetarian gnocchi. So after this quick swap we started munching away on our meals. It was when our waitress returned to the table with a side order of chips that my friend politely mentioned the mix-up - saying that while we were all happy with what we were now eating, that he had actually ordered the vege ragout, not the burger. “No you didn’t!” our waitress emphatically exclaimed. “I was listening and you ordered the beef burger!” At this point I started to quietly melt into my chair. “I really didn’t,” my friend responded, with my husband and my friend’s own husband backing up that the waitress’ assertion was indeed not the case. “You DID order the burger,” our waitress dug in further, before smiling and saying: “.... but I will get you the ragout.” My friend almost begged her... “Please don’t, I’ve already started my meal and I won’t be able to finish two courses!”. But the waitress knew best and ramped up her own insistence that my friend’s having ‘incorrectly’ ordered the burger would be rectified with a ragout replacement. She then promptly sauntered off to the kitchen. As for me, I was just dripping off the chair at this point - cheeks hot with the flush of blushing. (You see, I’m an Australian with more affinity to the reserved politeness of the English, whereas my ragout-less friend is an Englishman with the loud abruptness of an Australian). Sure enough, ten minutes later the missing ragout arrived; which of course we immediately requested be doggy-bagged up for us to take home. Our waitress took it back to the kitchen, before promptly returning a few minutes later with it all wrapped up neatly in tin foil, albeit otherwise completely in situ... inclusive of the porcelain plate and metal decanter hosting the pickle! I left it to my husband and friends to settle the bill, as I rushed outside to let the evening Yorkshire air cool my burning, embarrassed cheeks. The three of them emerged from the hotel a few minutes later with astonished looks on their faces. You see, upon settling up, our waitress had indeed apologised, and pointed out that the erstwhile elusive ragout did not appear on the bill. “Sorry for the mistake...”, she offered, before adding: “But you absolutely DID order the beef burger.” As the three of them stood there astonished, my vege friend took one last shot at pleading his case: “But I absolutely didn’t... I am a VEGETARIAN!”. In triumph, our waitress replied: “A-ha, but how was I supposed to know you were a vegetarian?” Her logic still remains lost to us all. And all I am now left wondering is... Is it courteous for me to return the plate and decanter to the Henry VIII Bar and Brasserie washed or unwashed? And with a note saying: “Thank you!” or “Thank you... but we really DID order the ragout.”?

Attended a wedding in April. Stayed the night before the wedding and dined in the main restaurant - food was amazing. We stayed in one of the separate bunaglows, it was modern, very clean and very comfortable. The staff were really helpful, I called reception as couldn't work out how to turn down the heating, they explained how to do it and then a short while later a member of staff knocked at the door with a fan in case I was still to warm! Bonus points - great and enthusiastic service from the young staff. Not so good - portion size for carvery meats, bland taste. Bizarre to see mushy peas as a veg choice with roasted meats!! Ice cream sweet advertised on the menu as coming with a fruit coulis, disappointed that this was just a thin streak painted on the plate. Added nothing to the flavour - undetectable. Verdict overall - could do better sadly.

The hotel describes itself as "function led". We didn't read that in the small print and wouldn't have understood it meant we would be subjected to unrelenting noise until midnight from two wedding receptions taking place at the same time. At 10.30pm I asked to be moved and the manager produced another room "because he had a cancellation" and not out of any concern that he was selling us a room unfit for use. So be warned, you need to check what events are going on in the hotel the night you want to book and check a quiet room is available which may or may not be the case. A good night's sleep is not guaranteed at this hotel.

We visited this establishment approx. a year ago and had a fantastic even so we thought we would visit again for my aunt’s birthday. Now I wish I'd have gone to McDonalds or KFC as I would have enjoyed the food more. There were 6 of us in the party and it all started well-ish. A tad slow at taking the drinks order but it was reasonable busy. However, it all started going wrong when they informed us, they had no 'wine-by-the-glass' except for the house 'paint stripper'. We took a glass reluctantly and gave our food order. Two fillet steaks, three sirloin and a kid’s chicken goujons, as well as six various starters.

The first thing I noted when I walked in the waitress service side of the New Years Eve do. (£12 more than the buffet on the old swimming pool side) was that it seemed so light and airy and surely had recently been re-decorated. I ordered some wine and water for the table. The staff were so helpful and friendly and when I mentioned Pinot Noir one of the staff dashed off to find some before I could say "no its Ok". When you think about it there must have been 300 people and not far off the same on the other side. How they manage is beyond me, but they did have loads of staff. The chairs are comfy to sit in all night long. The meals came out like clock work. They were all very good. A couple of hitches, like when a young lady asked if we wanted tea and we hadn't been brought the cups was a bit embarrassing for her. It was a 5 course meal and I liked the lot. I noted the owner Shaun was always wandering about making sure everything was in order whilst his wife and family were seated at one of the tables. That says a lot. We had a lady singer on who played popular music so that I and a lot of others got up to dance. When she finished there wasn't long before we could let in the new year via Big Ben on a screen. That's when Shaun the owner let his hair down and joined in the fun and started of the Gonga. It was a great night with friends and all real good fun with no arguments from anyone. Thank you to Shaun and Rosie for a great night to remember.

We attended an Ed Sheeran tribute night, performed by Daniel East on Dec 6th. Daniel was really brilliant despite a talkative audience. The pre-entertainment meal was very good quality for the £26 paid for the whole night excluding drinks. The night was marred when an elderly lady collapsed. The staff did not halt the proceedings until around ten minutes after this had happened. Despite two big events on the night, the hotel did not appear to have a first aider on site and seemed to stand around until an ambulance arrived. Daniel was left wondering what to do and had to hang around and ask for the thumbs up from the management who were just stood around and not taking charge of the situation. I will attend further events at this hotel because the food and entertainment is very good. I just hope that I don’t fall ill whilst I’m there!

It was my first visit to this hotel after hearing recommendations about their tribute nights we thought we would give MJ a go, great communication from them when booking and also with the pre-order of food, everything correct when it was all served. When we arrived outside looked lovely a festive all trimmed up, we made our way to the bar to be greeted by a lovely friendly bar lady! Drinks OMG they are so cheap! I live and work in Leeds so when I go to a hotel for a do I’m paying in excess of £50 just for a party night with expensive drinks on top and plastic food! This cost me £26.50. Food was all home made proper potatoes, lovely fresh veg and plenty of gravy with great service! MJ was great, good DJ and the gin and vodka we supped our way through went down a treat, shame it wasn’t as busy as I had expected but it was a Thursday night. I’m sure Friday and Saturday is rammed! So my first visit here will not be my last we are planning another tribute night outing in February and plan to stay over so we can make a night of it! Arrived on time only to be told that the restaurant had no record of our reservation. but they would be able to fit us in if we were prepared to wait 30 to 45 minutes.
