Kings Arms in Charnwood

We are regulars at the kings arms having had Christmas day dinner for the last 4 years and also go throughout the year. All staff are professional in their job, making us feel welcome and do not rush you with your meal at anytime! the meals are always very yummy whatever has been chosen on their menu. One small thing I would like to say is about Christmas day soup, could there be a choice of 2 as this is a popular starter and if this is the only 1 flavour some people do not have a starter that they have paid for. if I had to give marks out of 10 it I would give 9.5. my thanks goes to all the staff at the kings arms for all their hard work, it is much appreciated.

The food was piping hot, the customer service was amazing which is the one thing that means we will return soon. The waitress was polite, cheerful and couldn't do enough for us. The ambience in there was perfect for me and my friend to discuss our upcoming trip to Italy. It was our first visit but it definitely won't be our last

I had the lunch menu with a tomato soup starter which was piping hot followed by the fish & chips which was more generous than I expected for a lunchtime meal. The plate had been pre-heated which is always a welcome sign. As I needed to drive, I had a bottle of sparkling water but although properly sealed, it was flat. The bar-tender willingly opened a replacement bottle, equally properly sealed but that was the same. I settled for water and he voluntarily took the “sparkling” water off the bill. Service was friendly and attentive but there was no sensation of being hurried and I shall have no hesitation in returning shortly.

Great selection of drinks, food is also great and enjoyable atmosphere. Just one thing we didn't like. The pub's website and social media encourages you to order and pay from your table, which I really like to do, especially when children are together, as once you decide to go, it's easier and faster. Surprisingly once we arrived at the pub, a member of the saff told us that every order should to be done via table service, and not scanning the QRcode, as other pubs from the same chain do. Despite the staff effort, sometimes they looked to be a bit lost with the pace and anticipation needed for this kind of service, which unfortunately (depending where your table is), it makes the process much longer for every order, especially the bill.

This place continues to get better. The change in the last 12 months is extraordinary. Good food and great staff.

I had the mixed grill and my mum had jacket potato and salad, it was quick to be served and delicious, the staff were lovely. Good experience, will definitely come again instead of ordering a take out.

We were greeted by a very friendly girl and shown to a table. We found the place to be really clean and plenty of space between tables ( hubby walks with a stick and struggles in confined spaces) We spoke to another girl who was also very friendly. One thing that I did notice was when we were asked if we were happy with our food, it was asked as a simple question of "is everything ok for you" where in other places it is " is everything ok for you guys" which I hate. We had 3 courses, all were perfect and lovely and hot. It was our first visit but we will definitely be back. We also noticed the music is background music and is not at all intrusive

Was very disappointed children’s pencils to colour was blunt. Who gives children blunt colouring pencils ?. Ordered mixed grill steak was medium well when asked for medium rare also eggs missing from plate had to ask were was the eggs. Then left gravy pot on table while dishing up pudding. They Leave empty vinegar bottles at set table ?. Advertise upgrade your steak for £2 but say you can’t on mixed grill Yet it on the same page. One waitress for the whole dinning area disappointed for a family meal for children

Disappointed overall. When we arrived, we were greeted and asked if we wanted drinks and we were also told there would be a delay on food as two of the kitchen staff were late. We accepted this. Ordered food but when it came…It wasn’t good I’m afraid. I had the Chicken Burger with fries…it looked okay but it had clearly been in the Airfryer for too long. It was hard on the outside, the chicken was really dry and my fries were hard, again they had been in the airfryer too long. My friend had the Hunters Chicken and although it was smothered in sauce, it was also very dry. Basically over cooked. It’s a shame. We didn’t complain at the time because our server was a pleasant young lady who was doing her very best. When she asked me if everything was alright, I replied that it was okay…because frankly, this was an after work, on the way home meal and we just wanted to get home. Upon arriving home I decided to let you know, because without feedback you won’t know what’s going wrong. Sadly, we’ll be going somewhere else in future.

I find the staff always welcoming and accommodating. They are thorough and attentive. Nothing is ever too much. The food is always piping hot and spot on. Never had a bad meal. Always recommend top friends.

Lovely restaurant, food great, staff lovely and pleasant. Service was great. Only reason for not giving a 5 star was it was very cold in there, definitely needed heating on or turning up. But over all very nice meal out.

My meal was excellent value for money, quality and delicious. Waitresses were professional and attentive. Good range of drinks available and plenty of room. A great experience and heartily recommended.

Had a really nice mixed grill on a Sunday evening here. Usually the steak isn’t that great on pub mixed grills but this one was lovely!

Ridiculously expensive! Was charged £6.90 for a pint of ale! Won't be going back. [edit - it was a Neckoil IPA, didn't buy anything else at the same time and that's the amount on my statement]

First time visiting the Kings Arms and it did not disappoint! Went for a birthday party and could not have asked for more, great staff, good food and an awesome atmosphere…would definitely go again, and recommend.

Friendly atmosphere, great staff who really made us welcome. We had lunch before staying for a party later in the evening, superb day, great service from the team, some good deals on drinks, well worth a visit.

We booked our Christmas dinner this year, it’s the second time we have done this. The first time was superb. This year however was a little disappointing. The welcome was warm with a nice table for two. Both starters were very good. Exactly as described in the menu. The mains however were not as the menu described. My wife’s meal, prawn and salmon encrute seemed to be lacking any prawns and the chive mash was absent, replaced with very hard roasted potatoes. My lamb shank should have been served with stuffing, again, conspicuous by its absence. Also very little gravy. Though when requested, more gravy was served. The side of cauliflower cheese was very nice. My wife’s dessert was delicious, however my cherry bomb was very disappointing. Instead of being a cherry mousse, it was rock hard ice cream. On the whole, the meal was disappointing considering it cost £140.

5 stars for the service as the staff were wonderful. Welcoming, friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the disappointment was the food. It's was awful. I frozen microwave dinner would have been better. If I had to guess, I'd say it had been sat out for a long while. The turkey was dry, the vegetables were wrinkly, and the yorkshire pudding was a strange blend of crumbly and cardboard like. We ordered the cauliflower cheese as an extra, that was almost raw cauliflower with a small sprinkling of cheese on top! Textures was all it really had as the whole thing was essentially tasteless. All in all, great service but disgusting food.

I’ve been here a few times with family & friends, the food has vastly improved since the new owners took over. However Christmas Day dinner was amazing, the food was exceptionally outstanding, with good portion sizes and friendly staff.

Pre booked for Christmas dinner for a total of 7 people. Greeted at the door and I must say the service was excellent! Compliments to the staff working on Christmas day for others. Food arrived quickly and the service was brilliant. However I can't say the same for the food. It was horrific! The gravy was like water, the cauliflower and cheese was hard and undercooked, the turkey was extremely dry, the peas looked like they had been sat on a hot plate for 3 days, the yorkshire pudding looked like it was made of plastic and texture was exactly the same. What we ate, we ate out of force because we didn't want to see it go to waste. Totally unsatisfied and I left 75% of it. It was also "alot" of money coming in at over £600 for 7 people. We will not be coming again for Christmas dinner. Too overpriced for microwaved food.

Nipped in for a pint after work and reluctantly paid £5.90! For a pint of cider. These marstons pubs seem to be taking the mick with all there pubs charging sky high prices on drinks. There wasn’t anyone at the bar to serve me a second drink so I walked out and went up the road and got a pint of the same cider for £4.80. I won’t be going back in there again. Poor service at high prices. No good.

5 of us for grandma's birthday, when arrived was told its table service. 10 mins after we arrived a couple came in staff took drinks orders from them straight away whilst we were still waiting for service. Could eventually see our drinks at the bar on a tray for a good 5 mins before being brought to table. Been sat down nearly 30 mins before our drinks arrived by which time the newer couple were almost finishing their starters. By the time our starters came out the newer couple had had 2 rounds of drinks, starters done and mains almost finished. My chicken burger was burnt on the top making it not very appealing. We still left a generous tip as it looked like short staff but they obviously weren't looking who came first.

A really lovely pub. The food is excellent & the staff are really welcoming. We are so pleased we found this pub & although it's an hrs away from where we live we will we going back as often as possible.

The service was very good, happy friendly staff, it became very busy but they still delivered the same service, very polite. The food was great and plenty of it, very good value.

Great service , food fantastic in fact great in every aspect

Nice staff but awful food and awful loud music, the sausages were chewy with lumps of gristle, the gammon was chewy and the chips were horrible dry things that were hard to even swallow. The disco music was awful and far too loud to allow conversation. While we were there people were constantly turned away at the door being told it was fully booked, but all the time we were there there were 3 empty tables, so your booking system is definitely not working. Most places we go have notices on tables saying what time they are booked so customers can use the table until that time! Get more customers in so you can afford to supply decent food! And play music conducive to eating and not to a nightclub.

Staff are always helpfull, friendly & polite. Drinks order taken quickly, food ordered & arrived quickly. Overall a pleasant evening

Food was nice but gluten intolerant was difficult to find something that was still available. Staff were nice but didn't clean up very quickly.

12 of us from Hanover Court Loughborough have just been for a Festive Lunch. It was Perfect. Thank you Rachel and all your lovely friendly helpful staff for a great time had by us all. We were a party of 25, on the same day they already had a seperate party of 40 to attend to. Service was outstanding. All food came to tables hot and was lovely. 100% for service and food

The staff are really welcoming we were seated quickly on arrival order was taken quickly and lovely interaction from staff when taking are order . The food was outstanding best steak we’ve had in a long time well done to the chef . parking is good recommend you book so no disappointment Highly recommended

travelled from liverpool as visiting our son as he at nottingham uni, so we always go here for tea, food lovely, great choice and prices, all staff so friendly & nice

I called for a meal on the off chance, and they had a table free. The waitress took my order quickly, and it wasn't long before my starter arrived, prawn cocktail on a lovely bed of crispy lettuce. My pots were cleared. so fantastic and efficient service. Then came my main within minutes of finishing my starter, mixed grill cooked to perfection. It was just the right amount and so tasty. When my pots were cleared, I chose my pudding, which was a scrumptious apple crumble and custard. I really enjoyed my meal and the service was excellent.

Attended for food before the cinema as not been to the Kings Arms for a long time. Recent reviews seemed okay so gave it a shot. Initially met by I can only assume the manager behind the bar and he was great. Very professional and friendly. I would argue, he belongs in a higher class venue as he was really professional. He was very efficient and genuinely a nice bloke. After he had brought our initial food however, it went quite downhill. The waitress staff it felt just completely forgot about us. 40 minutes after food being finished somebody finally got our plates. The staff appeared to enjoy laughing more with persons swearing at the bar and it felt even encouraging the behaviour. In truth apart from the manager, a poor experience and will not be returning.

Good place for a quick bit of pub grub. Occasionally entertainment.

I went to the Kings Arms for the first time the other day with my family and had a wonderful meal. The food was excellent and the service was friendly with the food coming out quickly. We felt really looked after. Especially by Mike who was attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The pub itself has a lovely atmosphere and surroundings are really comfortable. Would definitely recommend and will be visiting again. Thank you.

This was our third visit. Food and service was excellent. We asked the name of the Chef and was told it was Mike.. my wife asked if we could thank him. The waiter informed the chef who managed to see us.y wife thanked him and asked him about Christmas... We are now thinking of Christmas day Thank you all...

My family booked The Kings Arms for a celebration meal, it was a busy Friday evening. We were welcomed by a smiling staff member on arrival and taken to our table, drinks order taken that arrived promptly. We ordered our meals, when they arrived they were presented nicely, were hot and we all said how yummy they were. My steak was perfectly cooked and my son loved his big burger! We enjoyed our meals so much and made sure the chef heard our compliments, the waitress said his name was Mike. Thank you for making our evening, we’ll be back very soon!

Aleisha was top teir - really friendly and welcoming with a good sense of humour. Food was lovely and a definite improvement since my last visit a couple of years ago when a different brewery ran the place!

There were plenty of staff working so the service was very friendly and efficient The food came quite quickly, was piping hot, delicious and good value for money.

From the initial enquiry to the afternoon itself, was great for a 90th birthday celebration. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. Buffet was wonderful and there was plenty of it too. Using the conservatory made it feel like a separate room, but also open to the bar which felt 'right' instead of being in an entirely separate space. 31 people was tight, but not too tight. Thank you from everyone to all the staff, you did a great job.

Good experience as always, food was the typical pub grub, nice and hot and plenty of it. The service was pretty quick considering how busy the venue was, no complaints, will definitely go back again.

So disappointing last night the staff were rude and not very helpful- two of the meals we ordered were not available. We had to wait ages for our first round of drinks. When we ordered another drink that didn’t come after we had our meal. Then there was a disturbance in the bar, with two young guys and some members of staff - the language was disgusting as there was a young child on the table next to us. We eventually got an apology but this totally ruined our evening. I going to make an official complaint. We will not be going back in future

No mushy peas (and no substitute like extra mushroms or some rocket given when asked), beef dripping steak sauce not available, steak was blue as requested but not seared fully (I did have stomach ache in the evening but I have a strong constitution so I wasn't worried) the burgers were dry and over cooked, and the batter on the fish under cooked... Left to eat, no one came to asked if the meal was OK and no eye contact from staff when our food and drinks were finished, but they would clear tables that had been left, it was as if they didn't want to offer a dessert or drink refills, so needless to say we left the table and paid on exit, unsatisfied and unimpressed I'd suggest bringing back bar service... First time in a long time my dad didn't leave a tip and that is amazing!!!

The waitress was friendly enough but had love bites and bruises on her neck and arms… not exactly front of house material!? The corridor was blocked and full of parcels along with other areas. Which made the place look untidy and unfinished. Ordered our meal only to be told that they’ve not got four things on the menu. When we got the main course we were thoroughly disappointed to receive very small portions and the quality was severely lacking. My curry was all sauce and no substance… very runny and tasteless. My daughter ordered the chicken and she finished it in two bites. She doesn’t normally eat a lot but even she said that it wasn’t enough!?. Ordered two more child Pepsi max’s at £3 each. No refills like most places. Ie The Harvester! The service was very poor. There were long waits between courses and the waitress didn’t clear the table after each course leaving the table covered with plates and cutlery. Extremely disappointed with everything. It was very expensive for poor quality food. We won’t be going back!

A table for six was booked online. We were welcomed and shown to our table. Drinks were ordered and brought to the table within a good time scale. Our food order was taken and the food arrived well presented within a short time. Each main course was hot, tasty and beautifully cooked. Three of us had desserts which were all very good. We cannot find fault with the service, the food or anything else about the King’s Arms. A good experience all round.

Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and the food was amazing - 30% off at the moment. We both ordered the mixed grill. It arrived fresh and piping hot. We are brown sauce fans and you can’t always get it in certain restaurants. The Kings Arms, however, do stock it. This definitely complimented our meal! Can’t wait for our next visit!

The food was very good as was the service bringing the food and drinks to the table. Unfortunately the young waitresses seemed to think that being there was a social gathering for them and were not paying a lot of attention to our table. They were taking plates away before both of us had finished and after a wait at the end of our meal we eventually had to ask for the bill.

They let us stay in their car park while travelling past in our motorhome. Very welcoming
